[Pre-quarantine review]. No complaints from me here! We had dinner here and what I remember most was the very friendly and efficient service. The woman who served us was moving at lightning speed from table to table while fulfilling takeout orders. I've been trying to be conscious of how much meat I've been consuming, but I also love Chinese food so vegan Chinese options are always appreciated. Favourite Chinese restaurant in Berkeley. Their lunch special is a great deal and all their dishes have been delicious! The staff will make you feel like a regular after a few times going and are very kind. Try the Mapo Tofu with fried rice and a spring roll for lunch. read more

I have been coming here for 20 years and the service and food has never disappointed. Sunny is fantastic and so sweet - always makes sure our needs are met. I have taken multiple friends who are "anti fake meat" without telling them it was a non-meat menu and they loved it. I told them afterwards and their perspectives on fake meats has changed - which speaks to the magic of their food! I would recommend the broccoli beef and their fish and tofu dish made spicy. The seafood dumplings are also amazing. They used to serve with normal plates and such but I saw the change to disposable post Covid. I do miss more of a plated dine in environment, but still come in for the great food and Sunny's kind presence. read more

I still like Panda express better than this food, however their broccoli beef was awesome considering it's not real beef. Yet I tend to eat organic and can't trust the ingredients so I am out. In addition, their food is on a salty side. Nice customer service though. read more

I'm writing a review because it's hard finding a good cheap, vegan Chinese place, and this is all of those, but it's not crowded as much as it should be. $10 lunch plates with soup, if you want chowmein, or fried rice with it it's $3 extra. I'm so sad. They had us eat in paper plates, the dumpling soup tasted like boiled water with spinach, and the "steamed" dumplings were drier than your s*x life and extremely doughy. Oh, and the veggies tasted like compost. read more

Food is standard Chinese. Very solid. Fast friendly service, too. I just tried them in this location for the first time. I like the high ceilings as it feels a tad safer to dine there, and the tables are spaced apart enough for safety, unlike the ambiance of other more crowded Chinese restaurants. This is my go-to place for Chinese food in Berkeley. I'm not going to say this is the *best* Chinese food I've ever had, but it's the best I've had in Berkeley (and Livermore) for sure. The food is always piping hot and fresh. Like, the string beans and broccoli actually have a crunch to them, so you know they haven't been sitting there for ages. My favorites are the spicy garlic eggplant and the black bean string beans. The chicken/egg fried rice is also amazing -- definitely get it along with your entree orders. I haven't been here for lunch but if you're getting dinner with a friend, you can get fried rice and two entrees for $30 total (including tax and tip) and have enough for leftovers. If you're vegan, vegetarian, or pescetarian this place is for you! Tons of mock meats and seafood in your favorite Chinese dishes. Super convincing texture and taste with lots of choices. My personal favorite things are the duck dishes and the tofu dishes. Overall dishes are flavorful but tend towards more greasy and salty than I'd prefer but nothing a steaming bowl of white rice can't fix. Service is friendly but quite rushed at dinner. I'd say even if you aren't vegan/vegetarian, go for the vegetarian lunch specials. They give you a ton of food, it's a great deal, and the veggie-meat is actually pretty good. I got the honey walnut shrimp lunch special once and was a bit disappointed with the amount of shrimp I got. I've heard good things about their other seafood options, though. Sadly, they're moving five blocks further from campus in a week, but definitely worth checking out. read more

I adore the food here. Top notch vegetarian and vegan dishes, which I absolutely crave. Spring rolls are superior, and so many dishes and combos to choose from. The veggie meats are excellent, ditto soups. I would eat here every day if I lived a bit closer. In a time of inflation and excessive prices, also a real bargain. My only real disappointment here is the green bean ball soup. In years past, they used the same recipe as their former sister restaurant, Great Wall, which recently closed at the end of May 2022. The former recipe was to die for, and now it cannot be had anywhere. Otherwise, I generally find the food here to be slightly superior to Great Wall in recent years, and on par with the best of any other restaurant. Also - the service staff make you feel like a welcome friend each time you walk in. This is almost unheard of in the restaurant business, even those with Class A service. I am in love with this place, and cannot recommend this eatery highly enough. Was craving Chinese food for a very long time. Luckily I found a vegan friendly Chinese food spot that I've been eyeballing for quite some time. Went here on a Friday night around the dinner hour. The place was very busy, but we got seated very fast. Everyone was so friendly and attended to our dozens of questions referring to the vegan options on the menu and pointing out certain items can't come veganized. Tons and tons of options on the menu, we narrowed it down. The veggie spring rolls were delicious, the broccoli beef was mouthwatering...the meat didn't taste like the same ole same ole vegan beef. This had flavor and paired well the broccoli. The stand out was the long life vegi pork. It was absolutely deeeeeeeeeerlicious. Ordered a few lunch specials - mushrooms + pea pods, kungpao "chicken", and sweet and sour "pork" on fried rice. Sadly the sweet and sour did not make it in to the bag, but rather a braised tofu dish on white rice. :( Food was all tasty, but all one dimensional and nothing out of the ordinary. Great place on university, there's usually street parking close by. This place serves mostly vegan/vegetarian chinese food that has substitute meats, however it's important to note that ALL OF THEIR SEAFOOD DISHES CONTAIN REAL SEAFOOD! My fiancé and I come here about once every few months and we typically stick to the same few dishes. The spring roll appetizer comes with 4 fried spring rolls cut into 8 pieces and a sweet and sour dipping sauce. Crispy crunchy goodness! We've gotten the potstickers before, fiance was a fan but to me it didn't have enough flavor or filling and the potsticker wrapper was quite thick. The wonton soup is good with some extra salt and pepper. As for entrees we usually get the Vegi ham chow mein, Long life Vegi pork in special sauce, and a veggie dish. The vegi ham tastes very similar to spam and the vegi pork is fried and crispy and drenched in a garlicky sweet/sour sauce, it's my fiancé's favorite. I even brought my Chinese non-vegan family here and they loved it! I'm so happy because now there's a place where can go as a family where nobody has to compromise. My brother in law told me that he ate a whole meal before our meal because he wasn't sure what to expect when i told him we're having vegan chinese food but he was blown away! We have been eating at this restaurant since 1984. There has been a move to a new location and new owners but it is still our reliable go-to for Chinese food. I love all the vegan choices and my other half has a great selection on the seafood menu. (It's real seafood, not vegan.) My husband loves the honey walnut prawns. If I want a vegan soup, they have it. If I want vegan noodles or fried rice, they have it. A lot of dishes are listed as vegetarian but they are vegan. Check with the server if you aren't sure. This is a restaurant that I can honestly say changed my life. It was over 30 years ago that I was a new vegetarian in college and I instantly became a fixture at this place. They have continued to feed me even as I raised my family, and now my kids are adults and they still ask for Long Life Vegi whenever we have a special family occasion. We got complementary soup with our meal. The fake beef we tried was pretty good. Not the best fake meat I've had not definitely not bad!
