I will start the review by stating that the food at Long Grain is phenomenal. If the food was anything less, or heard anything different from all of the Mid-Coast locals I encountered, I wouldn't have put in the ridiculous effort to try their food. My fiance and I both ordered their homemade noodles, an order of Thai wings from their daily specials, and an order of dumplings. All of those things was delicious and definitely worth all 5 stars...Their lack of 5 star rating comes from the lack of customer service and rudeness we experienced ordering (or even attempting to order their food). The first night we were in Maine, they were closed and our hotel receptionist told us that it was a good idea to make reservations in advance if we wanted to try long grain.. We had no clue that a restaurant in Camden would require NYC style advanced bookings. After spending what seemed like the entire next day, calling throughout the day to make a reservation and only getting a busy tone or a voicemail that said that they do not check the voicemail...we decided we would pop in and try to get a table. They were booked the entire night--you even need reservations to sit at their bar, which was a bit odd to me. What else stuck with me is that we waited awkwardly for about 25 minutes near the door before someone even came to greet us to let us know there was no table and that there would most likely not be one all night. They offered for us to order take out--which would take another hour to be ready. We were starving, so we left. The day after that--I called again, and once again, no one answered all day. How was I supposed to get a reservation in if no one would answer our calls?!?!? Once again, we showed up to see if there was a possibility that someone had dropped a reservation. Nope--and there was even a "walk-in" that must have known someone who worked there who was immediately seated at an empty table. This time, we decided to order take out because everyone we encountered told is it truly was the best place in town. After we ordered, it took another 45 minutes to be ready, and when I picked up, they gave me the wrong order. Thankfully, I checked my bag before I left and waited another 25 minutes while they figured out what went wrong. We finally got our food--and as I mentioned in the first portion of my review, it was worth all of the struggle. I understand from a few locals that they are still adjusting to their new location--which is totally legitimate, but if they are a bustling restaurant that is basically reservation only--please have someone there to answer phones, or at least have someone to let people know when they arrive at the restaurant that there is a long wait and when and how to make a reservation. read more
