Not surprised Satori had a very good yelp rating. We have wanted to try Satori for sometime and haven't been able to attend until now. As soon as you walk in, Satori has a very welcoming, friendly, comfortable, and relaxing vibe! For our visit, the owner personally greeted us and spent some time talking with us about his place. A great sign of owner/operator buy in! Satori is in a great location on the main strip in Belfast Maine. Easy parking access and walking distance from town dock if you come by boat! The cocktail menu is insane! I'd come here just to enjoy a premium craft cocktail at the bar! We enjoyed a variety of sushi, sashimi, tempura and amazing Japanese style bbq pork belly. Expensive for what it is. Place is cute, seems like a small run business. Server was nice, but told us each serving of sushi would be 8 sushi pieces, when it is actually 6... unfortunate since you don't get much for your money. They're also very small pieces. The midcoast is lucky to have such an excellent sushi restaurant in the heart of Belfast. This place is consistently good and they are always striving to add new specials and exciting options on an already really nice well thought out menu of delicious Japanese food. The Master Bartender is creative in his approach and his drinks are a culinary treat of all their own. The Hostess is a magician of sorts who can make your sushi dreams come true if you tell her exactly what you want and give a polite amount of notice to. I personally hosted my baby shower there and 9 months later people are still telling me that is was the best baby shower they had ever been to. Go to Satori now, there is something for everyone. 3rd time visiting Satori, 3 for dinner on a Wednesday in August. This is a bustling place with dine in, at the bar or table, and lots of take out heading out the door. We sat right behind the hostess stand so it was a bit trafficy during our dinner. We shared the Sushi dinner for two and it was really fresh, well plated and plenty for 3 people. We started with delicious bowls of miso soup. Food here is very good. Two ordered cocktails and they were OK. Lots of families with young kids at the restaurant and the kids looked like they had some pretty fun drinks. While the menu is large and varied, you really need to be prepared for sushi, I did t see a lot for land lovers. My negative: chairs are super uncomfortable. I used to love Satori. The prices have been high from day 1 but the quality was superb so I didn't mind treating myself. I started to notice a decline in the quality of food the last couple times I went and after tonight I will not be back. They're "specialty" rolls are now $23 which is more than I've ever paid for a roll, anywhere. I ordered the red dragon roll which was supposed to have spicy himachi. Not a spice to be seen or tasted. The whole thing was bland and boring. And the tuna hardly covered the top of the roll. So disappointing. I could get this same thing at the grocery store for 10 bucks. read more

After addressing my concerns I was gaslighted by the owners wife/manager Jocelyn and mistreated completely. They do not understand the severity of the mistake they made and how it's going to impact my life. I've been coming here since they opened and I often send people their way. I won't be returning to their establishment until they can take some accountability for their actions and make it right. Wind is a nice guy and they have incredible food. Satori is definitely something special! Their menu can be a little overwhelming, so some research beforehand would be helpful, especially since seating is limited (reservations are preferred) and you will feel the pressure of others waiting for your seat. We were a party of four so were able to secure a table. This was a once a year occasion so we went all out! For appetizers, Vegetable tempura (seasoned flour so really dark and salty...not my fave, but still yummy!) and takoyaki ("grilled octopus balls"). This was new to me, it looked like a hush puppy and was filled with something mushy I couldn't recognize. Really quite tasty, but unexpected for sure, especially when it was offered after the question "do you have dumplings?" For entrees, we had Tonkatsu ramen (they were out of pork belly so had tofu instead) with the eggiest noodles imaginable! Almost like Udon but thin and long like ramen. There wasn't as much broth as you might expect, but still delicious. The rice bowl with fried tofu, broccoli, and carrots with sticky rice was great, very filling. The tea cooked soft boiled egg was a nice touch! Simple and clean. The hamachi maki (sushi) was nothing special, really, but the fish tasted meaty and fresh, reminded me of swordfish. I think the favorite entree of our party was the bao buns with filling like a bahn mi. Very creative! The cocktail was gorgeous and very tasty. This is really where they shine - craft cocktails like you can't get anywhere else! Pictured is "At first blush" which is made with egg white foam, cherry syrup, and Japanese gin along with some beautiful garnishes. The rest of our party had beer (Sapporo and a New England red IPA). Both ice cold cans with tall frosty glasses - very refreshing and a little bit elegant! The dessert offerings were a little discordant - cheesecake and pie? We finished our meal with a more traditional 3 piece mochi which came in red bean, mango, and vanilla. The kiddo in our party loved it. He was stuffed, or he would have gotten a bubble tea to go (aka boba tea). All in all, we had a ton of food, and after the tip it came to $200. Not bad for four people having a celebratory meal. If I make it in by myself or with one other person, it would be more in the $35 to $55 range, I think...you can still eat well and enjoy a unique cocktail. I particularly appreciated the thoughtful table spacing. The restaurant could have easily crammed in additional tables to accommodate more diners - the food is certainly that good. Oh my unagi! I'm someone who goes out of my way to make a sushi stop an hour away just for good sushi. I was driving by when I saw this brand new restaurant in my neighborhood! I decided to stop in by myself just to try it. I ordered the unagi sashimi and this is one of the best ones I have ever had! I also had a salmon sashimi , which was also amazing! The fish was all fresh and delicious. The house sake was also pretty good. The interior is great and the set up is very intimate. The lights are dim and you have several options for tables. I sat at the sushi bar as they were very busy and I was alone. Plus, I always enjoying watching/ talking to the chef(s) when I eat alone. Based on how busy they are, I definitely recommended making a reservation. The entire staff was very friendly and hospitable. This is definitely going to be my go-to spot in town. read more

Well, I'd love to give this place a five star review. I've eaten here a couple times and the food was great service was lap cluster.. but yeahi gave it another try. We love boba tea.. unfortunately, this is the only place in the area to get it... ya know Belfast being a relatively rural place. So I'll start with the last time we went here. We ordered traditional boba tea.. unfortunately the young lady made us a milk tea with boba. Hey mistakes happen... unfortunately it was untasty mistake a 24 dollar untasty mistake. You know, when you go through dunkin donuts and you ask for less ice.. because if you fill something twenty four ounces full, you expect for twenty four ounces, correct?? Well, the slash time we called and made sure that we got a traditional thai bobati, with light ice and extra boba.. the owner specifically told them to fill the cup half way full.. rate, when my wife was about to pay for it, I said, wait, wait, wait, wait. Are we not getting a full 16 ounce boba... she's like, yeah, that looks super weird let me ask the owner... apparently, he instructed the person who made it to only fill it half full. At that point I said, no, thank you. We will not be back.You can keep the boba tea. I'm not telling the man how to run his business, but i'm certainly saying that we will never ever be back again. 24 bucks 2 boba haft full. Guess the ice = 10 bucks read more

Finally ate inside Satori (instead of sitting in the car due to you know what) during the fantastic Ice Festival. It's fantastic. The waitress was a little testy coz we moved our table 3 inches away from the couple next to us but we finally got on with each other and she became super sweet. I had the bento box even though I don't usually like bento boxes. It was different, bigger and better than most. It was super tasty. The fish slices were big and fresh but I will admit not cut as meticulous as some Japanese sushi chefs. Shrimp tempura was below par. Miso soup excellent and house salad BIG. The hub's eel dish was generous and quite good. Will definitely go back and try more. People doing sake shots were having so much fun! Be forewarned, it is expensive. read more

My son and I met on a Friday night for dinner at Satori. The restaurant is situated in a beautiful historic building in Belfast, which stands as a landmark, and reminder of the past grandeur that once existed in this rapidly evolving coastal town. The restaurant is divided into two seating areas with the sushi bar being in the upper level, and a full bar, with additional dining below in a lower level a few steps below. Both areas are open to each other, and the energy and people free flowing between the two environs is very pleasant. My son and I were able to secure a table in the upper level with the sushi bar. The table was fine, but had seating been available at the sushi bar itself, that would have been my preference. This was my son's second trip to Satori, and my first. My son enjoyed one of the house specialty cocktails, and I sucked down a mocktail (non-drinker here) while we considered our food selections. I started out with an appetizer which was billed on the menu as a fried dumpling with grilled octopus and scallions inside. What I was envisioning, was something akin to a pot-sticker (fried dumpling) but, what appeared on my plate were three little balls which looked very much like hush puppies. These were brown and lovely on the outside and inside was a soft mush of materials. If grilled octopus had once existed, it had been cruelly pureed into something akin to baby food. My summation was that this pureed mess was then scooped up and dropped into a deep fryer, producing the little balls which lay before me. The dish was not unpleasant, but certainly a let down from what I had envisioned, and I would argue, grossly misrepresented. My son began with an interesting take on the Bin Mi sandwich. A steamed dumpling (envision one of those white steamed buns with bbq pork inside say) was flattened out, and then filled with traditional Bin Mi components, which in this case included fresh jalapeno, shredded carrots, and a fried shrimp, which was perfectly executed. I tried a little bite and was delighted in both the flavors and varied texture that was presented in this creative dish. In between we enjoyed some edamame , which was laced with sea salt and some Japanese chili flakes. This was very pleasant. Next, we moved into some sushi offerings, I had smoked eel, salmon, and yellow tail, nigari style. All of the sushi was first rate, but pricey. A single piece of nigari style sushi was $6. Basically, twice the price I normally pay when I go out for sushi. I also had a spicy salmon roll. This was more moderately priced at $10 and very tasty. My son had a spider roll with soft shell crab and a California roll , both were excellent. Our total bill with 6 drinks and food was over $160, pricey to my way of thinking. Would I return? Yes, but perhaps with a little more discernment next time. read more

We made a reservation for 6 people at 5:45. The members of our party were a little late (10ish min). Jocelyn came over to confirm that we were still a party of 6 because she had a reservation right after us. Then she came back over when almost everyone arrived to make sure we knew we had to order soon so we would have time to eat. At one point, someone in our party asked to order something more because she was still hungry and was denied. "It would not be out in time." For the price they charge for their food, this was absolutely unacceptable. I will never be back and will never recommend anyone go. There are other restaurants in the area that offer the same food but without Jocelyn rushing you through the experience. That being said, our server was amazing, thoughtful, and attentive. My spouse and I spied Satori on a visit to Belfast last year, and finally had a chance to make the trip there for dinner. What a splendid sushi feast we enjoyed! Having failed to make reservations (it was early on a Sunday evening) we had the privilege of snagging the last seats in the house - at the sushi bar! We started with scrumptious salmon and tuna nigiri and then ordered an assortment of rolls, of which our favorite was the crunchy spicy tuna. We very much look forward to returning. read more

I am so excited we have this new business in Belfast. Sadly, I avoided going in because I know sushi is not keto friendly and i was trying to be good. Well guess what? It can be! This is hands down my favorite restaurant in midcoast Maine. The fish is so fresh and delicious, the sea weed is crispy, and the fried things are done perfectly. I always get the spicy tuna hand roll, the sashimi platter, the house salad, and the karage. This place is a well oiled machine, everything comes out quickly and the servers are very efficient and experienced with the menu. The host always makes the whole experience smooth, and she's very charming, funny, and down to earth. Not to mention it's in the most beautiful building in downtown Belfast. read more

The table would have definitely accommodated 3 more people. However this unpleasant person said "you can say hello but can't stay". No polite reason was given which may have been the case. I know a little (unfortunate) story of my loved ones trying to have a date night together here at Satori. The one half called the day prior to make a reservation for 2 people, for she & her spouse. Said couple are young parents of 2 little ones, who paid a sitter, to have a long awaited night out. They arrived at their reservation time and were "greeted" with, "We don't have a reservation for you." There was no "Sorry, I'm not sure what happened. I'll see what we can do", no apologies whatsoever. Instead, they were told that they could go sit at the bar and wait to see if something popped up. Eventually, the female "greeter" (99% sure she was the co-owner) admitted that she had spoken to her husband later on and he said he had taken the phone call for the reservation but forgotten to log it. Still no apologies. The young couple were eventually sat at a table, after feeling unwelcome from the start. Not a free drink let alone a good meal was served. Shame on Satori's leadership, the caliber you're striving for is lacking, big. Try harder with your customer service read more
