Not recommended. Visited their location last week. As promised, evaluated my bike free to determine needed repairs,then proceeded to tell me that my 9 year old bike needed a new tire, new tube, new derailleur, possibly new brakes, and would charge for adjusting my brakes if needed even if pads did not need to be replaced. I found another local bike store in Long Beach near Lauralton, which didn't try to sell me anything. They recommended a new tube and said "You might be lucky and get by with just a new tube instead of replacing the tire too". I decided to be on the safe side and bought a new tire. Well, I decided to treat myself to a new bicycle so I bought a new Schwinn Meridian Adult Tricycle. My tried and true Schwinn 21 speed road bike is not what I need at this point in my life. I'm 74 years old and any dreams I had of the Tour de France are long...long ...long gone(lol). I bought my adult tricycle on Amazon and it was fulfilled through Schwinn but required full assembly. I'm comfortable with these types of projects and although this type of work wasn't my profession I'm still very good at these types of projects. The struggle I had with the assembly was not with the tricycle itself but with the instructions. The tricycle is beautiful but I thought that most companies, like Schwinn, had moved to the IKEA model of instructions which is a lot of pictures and very little text. Well, Schwinn still uses the older instruction format with a lot of text and a few pictures and the manual was not easy to get through. Actually, the manual was a real struggle for me. So, I made, what in retrospect, was a great decision. I went to Long Beach Bicycles in Long Beach and talked to Richard and Bob. We agreed that the best thing to do was to have Max bring my tricycle from my house in East Atlantic Beach to Long Beach Bicycles and do a full tuneup. That included reviewing the work I did and finishing the work I couldn't do myself. The tuneup took a only couple of days and my tricycle was returned fully assembled and it looks great! I had to write this review because Mike, the owner, and Richard, Bob and Max did an outstanding job helping me out. I was fortunate that I called it quits and went to see Richard and Bob. Their suggestions were great. Max's customer service was great. Mike answered all of my questions and the whole team was so polite. My bike has been pretty low maintenance the past couple of years and the former owners did a tune up once, which was fine but seemed expensive at the time. I've had two busted tires in the past two weeks and this last time I got there at closing time and they were able to replace it within 10 minutes. I would never recommend this bicycle store at all, they are very unprofessional and all they want is your money . I purchased a bike rack for my bike , they install it, I then asked if they had a cargo bag that will fit it, they find a bag, put it on the bike , I pay and I leave. by the time I rode home, ( which is only a 7 minute bike ride ) the rack and bag is off to the side . The rack was just held on by the post under my seat. Is this anyway you would let a bike leave your shop ? ok if it was only $30, $40 dollars it wouldn't be much of a big deal, this ridiculous set cost me $190.00 !! I go back and they said I needed a different rack , a rack with side supports that would keep it steady, the guy says, ok , im going to order a part for you and ill call you when its in, this was over 2 weeks and no one gave me the respect of a phone call back. they couldn't care less about my situation cause they got paid in full. I searched on amazon myself and priced the same items they installed , the rack was $27.00 and the cargo bag was $32.00 . pretty expensive for a sh*t job ! I wish I could add pics on here to show the unproffessional job they did. So anyway I will never go back or if I ever hear anyone saying they're going to the Long Beach bicycle shop I will do my best to steer them clear away from that place. the fact that no one even called me goes to show what scumbags you're dealing with. This guy is ripping you off!!! Went there to buy a mountain bike. Found one and he wanted $540. Went home and did some research. Other stores had it for $440. Went back, told the owner, and asked him to make a deal with me in light of the foregoing. Instead of working with me, he shit on the websites (at least 5) that were selling it for $440 and threatened me by saying he was going to report them to to some bureau! I told him that if i could buy the bike for $100 cheaper from them i naturally would do that, unless he lowered his price. He basically told me to piss off. I like these guys, they're always friendly, a tune up on my bike is like 70 bucks, which is comparable - they've replaced my brakes several times (not cause they've messed em up, but because the model bike I have has notoriously bad brakes and I ride them - quite the opposite of when I drive). They don't charge me for storage when I forget to pick up my bike for a week or two, their prices are reasonable and they installed a blinking light for me FOC cause I was bitching about how people in Long Beach don't know how to drive. Seems like new ownership (Same owners as Merrick Bicycles, which is a separate shop in a Merrick). Rich, a salesman was extremely helpful from beginning to end with advice and information. The mechanic is a gem as well. All of this during the COVID outbreak which was impressive the way they were handling things. No attitude, which you would be surprised how common it is these days, especially since small businesses are being crushed by Amazon. Just friendly service. I brought my bike into Long Beach NY Bicycle on Park Ave with a flat front tire. After examining the bike he said I need a front tire as well as a tube. Fine. At around 5 I get a call to pick up the bike. I pay $55.39 and he tells me he will bring the bike out front. All of a sudden I am called back in and told that the rear tire is flat. The rear tire was not flat when I brought it in and the bike never left their shop The repair man says wait and he will fix it in five minutes. He does and then the owner says that will be $24.98. When I said the rear tire was not flat when it was given over to his care he got very belligerent. I told him at the very least he should waive the labor charge. He refused. I have bought bikes there and had service done there in the past. Today he lost my business and I hope some of you who read this will take heed and stay clear as well. read more

Wouldn't go back. Would advise others not to spend their money there. It's down the street from my house, so when I had a flat I went there out of convenience. While I was there I also purchased a lock. My total purchase was $51. By later that evening, my tire had. I went back a couple days later to have it fixed, and was told "we didn't fix your bike, there's no way." I didn't have the receipt, but pulled up a copy of my bank statement. The rude man proceeded to tell my that the $51 chargefrom Long Beach Bicycle & Fitness "didn't prove anything". After being called a liar twice, I should have just walked out of the shop, but I wanted to be able to ride back home. I was then charged $12 dollars for parts (he spared me the $2 installation fee--he can shove it.) Seriously, there is more than one bike shop in long beach. Go elsewhere. read more

Looks like the only one positive review was written nearly two years ago. This place is one of two locations on L.I., the other in Garden City. I had purchased two tire tubes for my sister's old Schwinn bike (Long Beach location) as a surprise fix it and the manager a heavy set angry guy (who looks like he would be just about anywhere else) named Herman grudgingly scribbled out an unintelligible receipt. When my sister caught wind of my plans she told me not to waste my time or money on it. When I returned a few weeks later with the new tubes still in their boxes and receipt in hand I got pricing on a tube replacement for my 10 speed (the quote was fine) but when I asked for a credit on the tubes towards the work he got very rude. He said "we don't return anything!, especially tubes". When I asked him why he gave me a receipt if that were the case, he said "oh that was only good for the first week only". I told him the owner wouldn't mind a $16 return with work being offered and a relationship at stake .He then says any complaints come to me for the owner. I told him I was taking my business to Buddys down west he chuckled "yeah give it to them". I left two messages for the owner in Garden City and both employees told me he would call back after his conference meeting and both took my telephone number, this was nearly a week ago and no call was ever returned. My last message threatened to leave negative reviews for him on various social media sites unless I heard from him shortly. I don't like slamming small and local business owners but these guys are the pits and should be avoided, I can't even respect them on a business level with a non return policy that's not even posted or encouraging neighborhood customers to go elsewhere over such a small purchase return.Their other business is "Big City Bicycle" in Garden City. read more

I don't know why this is reported closed, but if it was previously, it's open now. I brought my Diamondback for a tune up at the end of July 2020 and wanted to say how pleased I am. Bought this bike about 5 years ago and had it assembled at the other bike place on west park ave and I wasn't happy, they were rude like they were doing me a favor, and on my first bike ride a pedal fell off. But I only used it to go to the beach so I wasn't that concerned that it didn't ride well. Thought it was the bike. Recently I hurt my foot so I've been taking up bike riding - going from cedar creek to tobay round trip (17 miles or so) and felt it was time for a tune up. Brought it to Long Beach Bicycle and paid a little extra to have it ready in 3 days. Sure enough, I got a call 3 days later (a Sunday) that it was ready. The bike feels *better* than it did when it was brand new. I shaved 5 minutes off my bike time too and I couldn't be happier. Very nice staff there too! Thanks guys! read more

I went in to have my bike tuned up. He told me $70, but said that for $100 I could buy a brand new bike equal to mine. I told him I didn't have the time, I'd like him to do it. He refused. I walked the bike home and called him. I explained that I bought the bike from him, used, for $75. He said he didn't care. I said that when I bought the bike, why didn't he tell me that for just $25 more, I could buy a new bike just as good? He just hung up on me! If this guy isn't the owner of the store, he should be fired. The only thing this store has going for it is that it is the only bicycle store in Long Beach, so they have a captive audience. I have bought 3 bikes here, spent lots in repair and accessories over the last few years, mostly out of convenience since it's right near my house, and trying to be good and support a local business. After years of being treated like it's my first time there (every time) and not usually in a warm welcome way, I had enough. Brought in a bike for a 'tune up', and went to pick it up to see that it had not even been worked on. Cables were not oiled, a cable was not replaced that was supposed to be, and the repair guy says "you have a flat in the back". My question of course is "why the f**k didn't you fix that?". Despite nearly sending me out the door after $90 the owner was not even remotely apologetic and didn't seem to care at all that a loyal customer was treated poorly - i ended up waiting there for them to do what they were supposed to do in the first place, and the owner still made a point of nickel and diming me for an 8 dollar tube despite the messup. Expensive, rude, arrogant and given how much the community has supported this shop, I never feel the love back (nor do most people in the area it seems). read more

I went into the store for the first time yesterday 6/18/20, since new management took over, for 2 wheel inner tubes. I told them I needed 2 tubes at 26" x 1.75. The man helping me couldn't convert .75 to 3/4". He gave me two tubes. Once i paid and started to walk out I noticed he tried to sell me the wrong size. I notified him that he gave me 2"-2 3/4" wide tubes instead of the 1 3/4" I requested. The man went on to tell me that they were fine and the size didn't matter. I explained it was for an old bike with skinny frames and the 1 3/4" were the max the frame could hold. He said that even though they were too big for the frame it wouldn't matter because they shrink when filled with air and just not to inflate them all the way. I know I am no expert but I don't understand that logic. They only care about their profit and not safety of their customer or the community they are moving into. read more
