My daughter has been begging me for a new bike and would you believe one just fell out of the sky. I happily put my arms out and caught it but thought wait. What if something is wrong. I wasn't sure so I googled the closest bike shop and this one boasted black owned. So you know I had to support. I pull up and the most amazing 70 year old woman came and rocked our world. She owns it! She was sweet and helpful and so full of wisdom on bikes and life in general. I enjoyed talking to her while melting outside on a hot day. We sat in the shop for about 10 minutes and got a new set of tires put on and I think something with the brakes. It cost me about $100 but I also got two bike hats that I ain't never gonna wear but always wanted one back in the day when I lived in Brooklyn. I really enjoyed the stop to the shop. To know beautiful cool resourceful things like this are in my community just make my Day!! 5/5 highly I recommend. read more

A hardworking, honest, and (cute!) older couple -- Dorleen and Tony -- run this lovely mom-and-pop shop. I've visited three times since August 2024, and each time, they've delivered fast, fair (prices) service. Despite my tight budget, they helped me out. I'm a broke college graduate and don't have a car so I rely on my bike a lot to get around, and businesses like theirs make life easier and healthier. Grateful for their kindness. So I took my Trek 830 for a tune up on 6/24 during the afternoon. I was told it be $65+tax . My bike was having problems with the shifting the shifter couldn't hold the gears, it would increase or decrease gears on its own. Keep in my mind this is a 22 yr old bike which is now getting its 2nd tune up ever.. lol On 6/25 I took my trek 4900 for new handlebar grips as the originals has no cushion, so new ones were installed and I ask if my bike was ready. The shop was busy and they told me they would call me. I waited until 6/29 and I never got a call, so I called and I was told that the bike be ready on 6/30 I was told I was next for work on my bike. While this is a family owned business, it is my opinion that they lack customer service. Things happen and sometimes things can fall thru the cracks. Their response over the phone did not feel honest. Oddly enough a few days ago I had also asked the lady at the counter to price upgrades for my trek 4900 ( handle bar extensions, new brake cables and labor and I was quoted $110-$120) that same day I asked about my trek 830 being tuneup and very abruptly I was told That they would call when ready) A good store manager recognizes repeat customers, the potential of a sale and the fact that I am a local investing in my neighborhood business. But that was entirely overlooked. In the last 3 weeks I been at the store several times. Well I can tell you I finally got my bike yesterday and all seems to be good. read more

If you live in the area or even if you don't, if you need your bike fixed, bike parts or want to buy a bike, this is the place to come. My Trek hybrid bike of 2 years was in need of a tuneup so I could ride out (no pun intended)this Coronavirus pandemic. This shop only does repairs. When I rode up to the front door with my face mask on I was glad to see they practice social distancing. The door is locked so you have to ring the bell. A nice lady with a mask came to the door and asked how she could help. When it was determined I needed a tuneup she opened the door and let me in. She said because I brought the bike in early she might be able to have my bike ready the same day, worse case scenario the following day. That worked great for me because other shops told me 1 to 2 weeks to get my bike back. So 1:45 that day I'm at home lying on the couch listening to some music when my phone rings. It's Flashes Bicycle Barn...my bike is ready. I get my wife to drive me over there. When the lady let me in I saw this Bike on the side shining looking brand new. It was my bike. I almost didn't recognize it. Not only did they tune it up by they cleaned it! If you ever need your bike tuned up or repaired this is the place to go. read more

I saw the bad reviews and still decided to take a chance, and I'm glad i did. This is such a cute little shop, and the staff is so nice and simple. I went in to buy a part that had broken off and the lady at the counter gave me the part, put it on, then they put my bike back together and filed up my tires. Not sure what they did to deserve the bad ratings, but they deserve 5 stars. They went beyond what was required. They could have just given me the piece and that's it, but the fact that they took the time to to make things easier for me was priceless :) Another plus is how clean and organized this place is. Where do I begin? I decided to take a leisurely bike ride and enjoy the good weather we've been having recently and I was 8 miles from home when I had gotten a flat tire. I had called Bilette Bicycle Shop and asked if someone could come to my aid and help me fix my tire or pick me up and their response was sorry we don't provide that service. So I had to walk my bike for 5 miles and a police officer asked if I was OK. I explained my situation and he suggested that I go to Bicycle barn on Springfield. Ironically that is the same place where I had purchased my bicycle a year ago. Thankfully they were open until 7 PM. Upon arrival I was greeted by the owner Doreen and her husband Anthony my angels in disguise! Not only did they repair my bicycle but they also adjusted my brakes and cleaned my bike for me. Doreen also made sure that I had all of the proper tools to carry with me on my next journey in case that I should experience another flat tire. Bicycle barn also has pick up service so if you are miles from home or miles from their shop they will come and get you. Doreen and Anthony literally provided superb service with a smile and reassurance that if this should happen again I will be well taken care of. I really wish this were a better shop because it's the closest and most convenient to my home. However, I haven't been happy with the way I've been treated nor with the competence of the work. The shop itself is quite small and the little space they have is jam-packed with bikes on display. There isn't a lot of space devoted for gear. The owner doesn't make eye contact and she doesn't seem terribly interested in solving problems or making you happy and seems bored and tired most of the time. The fellow who does the work doesn't speak any English and while he seems to know his way around a bike doesn't do very careful work. One time I was shopping for a rear rack and he was showing me (with the owner translating for us) how he'd install the rack I had chosen and he was banging and scraping it all over the frame of my bike and the spokes of my rear wheel. If I had a major breakdown even right outside Bicycle Barn I'd pick up my bike and walk it home or to the next nearest shop. MAYBE if I had a flat and either was feeling really lazy or didn't have my tools with me I'd let them put in a new tube. But I don't think I'll let them touch my bike again and I have no plans to return to this shop for any other reason. read more

I paid $70 to have new tires and tubes mounted on my bike. I followed the instructions printed on the tires and inflated the tube to the prescribed pressure. The tube popped before I got close. When I returned to the shop they tried to blame the installation. When I told them I agreed because they installed the tire and tube they tried to blame a damaged spoke. When I asked them to show it to me the could not because there was no damaged spoke. Their next tac was to claim that I should not have inflated it so much. I told them that the instructions were printed on the tire. They started to claim that it was not their tire but I had to remind them that it was. In the end they lost a customer over a $5.99 tube and the 2 minutes it would have taken to install it. NOT A CUSTOMER FRIENDLY PLACE. read more

I knew better, I really did! I only went to this bicycle shop because it is convenient to get to and parking is very easy (no surprise since the service is so poor). I went for two small parts, which they did have, but the transaction was so sullen that one would think I was trying to pay with counterfeit cash or had asked for a freebie or something. This is at best a very low-end bike store, with horrible customer service. It is worth it to go to downtown Jamaica and get service with a smile at a high end shop! read more

I was surfing the web looking for a reasonable bike store to perform repairs to two bikes. I came across the Bicycle Barn in Queens Village (107-34 Springfield Blvd) and read about their outstanding service. I decided to give them a shot and I was NOT disappointed. The customer services surpass their reviews and they had very reasonable prices. The work was done to perfection and in a timely manner. The Bicycle Barn is run by a lovely married couple and has been in business for over 30 years. I highly recommend their shop and they have gained a new customer in me and my family. read more
