What's really unique and great about this place Is they have an awesome selection of used bicycles. I've been riding bikes for a long time and if you're thinking of getting a bike, especially for the first time, I highly recommend going with a used one you get way better quality bike for the money. Great experience from this shop that's been in the neighborhood for decades. Craig and Robert were super patient with me as I tried multiple bikes before deciding on my favorite. They also seem to have a larger selection of bikes than other bike shops in the area. And prices are comparable to online. However, you don't get to try on bikes when you buy online. Bikes are a highly personal item. Much like buying shoes. You need to go to a local shop and try them on. Please do no compare those $100 Toys R Us bikes to the ones in local shops. Great local shop. Really helpful and they have mechanics on hand so they can adjust your bike on the spot. I recommend buying here as when you buy from a big box store they don't adjust the bike to you. Overall great experience and customer service. Great deals during holidays, they have many different type of bikes, mountain, road, etc. The repair shop seems like a scam, yeah they get the job done, but if feels like there doing the bare minimum, I got the yearly deal or something like that, and there was still stuff missing, like missing screws in the rear brake, and stuff that I didn't mention. If you are going to get that package, make sure to mention anything wrong the bike, even if it's just a minor thing. read more

came in to borrow a bike pump because my rear tire looks like it doesnt have enough air in it, then the guy who works there(the dark skinned one) had a look like it is such a big deal. mad attitude for no reason lol. my guy asked "you dont have a pump?" no i do not you embicile, why do you think i came in here. i originally live in jackson heights and i was riding around flushing. when i noticed my tire looked a little flat i decided to search up a shop, and i came across roberts bicycle and i was like "this shop looks nice, why not go on a little adventure". i do have a pump at home, but at that time i just needed to borrow one out of convenience, since it was not that far from where i am and whats wrong with exploring a new bike shop right? the white guy was cool but idk wtf was wrong with the black guy man. bike shops are supposed to look out for cyclists since they are the main group that uses their services right? i aint even mad, just dissapointed. honestly that shit was funny lol. read more

Roberts Bicycles is all about the money and not about the customer. I went in to get my gears adjusted and upon returning to pick up my bike they let me know they changed the cables which was not the service that I had left my bike for. I didn't receive any call from the shop letting me know that they would be making this decision either. They then told me that if the gears still aren't changing right, I should come back to their shop to purchase a new sprocket for my bike. Conveniently, my gears were somehow changing worse than before so rather than going back to Roberts, I found a new shop, Peak Mountain Bike Pro, and had the actual service I needed done. Found out that my cable housing was rusted and Roberts never changed it, only the cables which costs me more money. Knowing that the gears would still not change smoothly, they tried to get me to come back and buy a new sprocket rather than fixing the actual problem. So grateful for Peak Mountain Bike Pro Shop! I wasn't going to write this review but while I was away this past weekend, my daughter and her friends needed air for their tires and Roberts was the closest shop to them. Unknowingly, they walked in and Roberts charged them $2 per bike. No shop charges to fill up an inner tube which should show they're always looking to make a quick buck off of anyone. read more

I came to buy a bike that I liked from the store's website. When I got into the store, a clerk told me that the samples they had on their website was outdated and they didn't carry them in the store. Not cool. Then I looked inside the store to see if there was any bike that I would want. I liked one and I placed deposit. The clerk told me to pick it up a week later to assemble and to tune it. A week later passed, and I got a call saying that the bike got sold out and they had inventory for the next high up model for additional $100 and it could be assembled and delivered the next day. I got very disappointed and irritated because they could have properly reserved my initial bike choice and delivered in a day as well. Anyways, I didn't like that I had to wait for a full week to get nothing, and I didn't want to pay extra $100 as it was outside my budget for a bike. I purchased a fixed gear bike from State Bicycle, but they sent me a defective fork. My front wheel could not connect to the rest of my bike, and after 2 weeks the replacement fork finally came and I took it to Robert's Bicycles They quoted me at $100 on the phone but when I brought it in, they said it would be $120 because it would be a lot of work for them. The bike was ready way before the pick up date, and when I went to get my bike I paid $108. I think their pricing is fair and they did a good job! My bike rides very smooth. My only regret was not purchasing a bike from their shop in the first place. I wish I knew about them before I placed my online bike order! read more

I didn't purchase a bicycle here but this is the best bicycle place for northern Queens. The people are friendly, knowledgeable, and fair. Plus, they're quick! My friends had a flat and I took them here and they were able to get back on the road in a jiffy. When my son's saddle broke, I came here for a part and they were incredibly helpful. Pandemic restrictions or not, these guys are taking too long. If they put one person outside their door to deal with the lines directly they could expedite the 5 minute customers vs the 25 minute customers . And this two lines crap wouldn't be necessary! And they're so cheap for not excepting their own coupons in The Clipper! For tha they basically a NO STAR operation in customer service. But the bikes, they speak for themselves they're some nice ones there. You can't buy em though, you have to put a down payment down and come back weeks later and wait on the long line all over again! The only reason to patron here is, you looked elsewhere and you couldn't find a bike. If you need accessories go to Amazon, if you need repairs trying like a shop that works on lawnmowers. Most of those guys will repair a regular bike at cost just to keep the doors for more sophisticated mechanical repairs. read more

We had purchased his bicycle about two years ago and I thought that I was surely in for at least one hundred bucks worth of maintenance.... Unassumingly, I was approached by the owner who turned to my son and insisted that he probably played with some screws. He asked us to wait five minutes and that he would take care of us. He quickly mounted the bike in the back and ran his diagnostic followed by a quick and abrupt shifting of the gears. He made some additional adjustments and I was out of there in ten minutes. Feeling like I had robbed the place, I felt obliged to buy a helmet. I was very happy that the team at Roberts did not try to make a sale, instead did the right thing. I had a blowout nearby this shop. Rear tire destroyed. Take it here or take an Uber home. I anticipated getting a generic tire and putting it on myself to get around until my tires that I happen to have just ordered from Probikekit arrived. I got the generic tire but I also got excellent customer service. They saw to my bike straightaway and offered to fix it on the spot. I decided to pay for the convenience. The gentleman who I presume to be the owner praised my ride. He knows bikes. I know this because I have a bike that only people who know bikes really appreciate. So what if the guy only gave me 60 psi of air, I was only heading home at that point. Whole deal took about 20 minutes and I was on my way getting home before the rain. Can't beat that. read more

Bad service, rude staff member who is owbner himself. Itching to rip you off with storage charge if show up 1 more than week late to pick up bike. Threatened to charge storage charge with 2 weeks over date scheduled. never called so setting you up to charge you storage charge. My significant other had a Schwinn original (USA) mountain bike that was maybe 20 years old but kept indoors and had maybe 3 miles on it. Basically brand new condition. It was bought at Roberts brand new. She got a flat tire (probably age) and we brought it in to get a simple flat fixed. THEY LOST THE BIKE. They gave her a replacement of an older rusted out bike with bald flat tires and rusted gears as consolation after a serious argument. We have since spent over $100 trying to bring it up to standards at another (pleasant) store. How the hell do you lose a bike when that is your f***in job. Beware. read more

Just bought a bike for my daughter and myself and we're having a blast. I went to the store on a nice March Saturday afternoon and Craig found a casual bike for my daughter and an awesome hybrid bike for me. He was pleasant, to the point, gave my daughter pointers on how to ride and we walked out as happy as can be. Don't go into a neighborhood store looking them to beat Kmart prices, don't ask 100's of questions so you can use that information to buy a bike on the internet cheaper, don't think that you can get a your old bike repaired for $50. Be respectful to stores and it's employees that stay open and provide services to the neighborhood. Rude people usually get rude responses so please don't listen to the Karen's and Chad's(?) who are always complaining to see if they can get a freebie out of their moaning. As an avid biker who moved into bayside, I was super excited to have a bike shop near me. One day I had the misfortune of having a slow leak in my front tire. Not having me tools with me I decided to just shell out the money to get someone at this shop to just replace my tire. When I got in they looked at my tires and said it would be about an hour. No complaints there, I had time to kill and didn't need my bike back too quickly. Before I left they checked my back tire and said there was too much air in it. My tires say they should be at 80 psi, I had them at 70. He deflated my back tire a bit and took my bike in. I thought nothing of it. When I picked up my bike, it was $20. Pricy, but not enough to really complain over. Before I left o asked if they filled the tires, the guy said yeah and that I was good to go. 2 miles into my ride my front tire was flat again! My guess is they never actually filled the tire up properly. To top it off after a little examination I realized I had a small leak (pin hole size). After fixing it up myself, I have nothing but a bad taste in my mouth. I paid $20 for a tire with a leak in it, and had to bike home on a flat. If your looking for a repair shop, keep looking. I want to be clear right from the beginning that I've received very good service at very fair prices from the two guys who work at this shop. They've treated me very nicely, too. The 2-star rating is a result of the way I've seen them treat other customers, especially non-white younger males. A woman walks into the shop, no problem. A man walks into the shop and he's not white or, even if white if he's not 40+, and he'll get ignored, or watched suspiciously, or treated brusquely and rudely. I've seen this happen every time I've been to Roberts. The owner isn't as bad as the slightly older guy who does most of the wrenching, but he's bad enough that it makes me uncomfortable to be there. The shop itself is small with a fairly limited selection of bikes and gear. I like that it's not jammed to the hilt and there's room to walk around and browse. The workshop area is through a door behind the service desk and they don't like customers going back there. If I had a major breakdown that I couldn't handle myself and I happened to be right nearby, I'd go in and get my bike repaired. Other than that unlikely eventuality, I won't be going to Roberts again. Those two guys need to get over their prejudices and pay for some customer-service training. read more

Tldr; 2 stars because of poor customer service and a transparent bad attitude that was unnecessary. Brought a bike that needed a new crank and brake cable. Charged me $60 bucks only to get the bike back completely unusable. After they switched my pedal to the new crank it became lodged and doesn't allow me to pedal. Never had a problem with the pedal before. Only when they changed it to the new crank did it become unusable. I went back and explained to a person (who I will only refer to as the stache) how it got stuck mid ride and how it forced me to walk 2 miles with a bike I apparently just got repaired. With a disgruntled face he took the bike back and said he'd look at it and to come back in 20 min. I come back he says it's all good now. I'm assuming he did nothing because I can't even get to the end of the block before the pedal locks up. Go back again, and tell him to actually do something this time. With a snarky attitude he takes it back but I guess he tried a little bit cause after I get it back the second time I can ride it around the block a few times. I take it home, and wait till the next day to ride to school. Gets locked up again mid trip. Sonofabitch. Another 2 mile walk. I hate that guy. Long story short bought another bike from a different shop. Glad I didn't give them anymore business. read more

Brought the bike in recently for repair, brake broke. Staff was wonderful, cost of part and labor $19 and done by the next day! Love these mom and pop stores, hard to find in neighborhoods. I went in to get a new tube for my front tire. I found it a bit peculiar when the man said my tire would be ready later in the afternoon because another customer in front of me had the same issue and his flat was fixed on the spot. I hate to say literally, but it was done in two minutes. So I don't know, maybe it was because I was....Asian??? Hah! Nevertheless I told the man I was in a rush. And what do you know, he took my bike and changed my flat tire in two minutes. Eh, no big deal but I felt a bit annoyed that I had to fight a little to get the same service. This place has been a neighborhood staple since I was a kid and thats along time ago :). I just recently went in there to buy my daughter and gf a bike plus I needed a bike rack. I dealt with an older man who was very business like and had the bikes set up within a half hour. Plus he assembled the bike rack and installed it on my car. Dont know what other ppl are talking about but to me thats great service. He didnt even want to accept a tip. I then went in the following day to look at road bikes and they have a decent selection. I dealt with the owner who was friendly and knowledgable. I had my eye on a Bianchi which was 1600.00 but he pointed out that the cannondale which was 1300.00 was just as good. I was a bit skeptic and unsure but I took his advice and went for it. What even better is he knocked the price down to 1190.00 and threw in some freebies. The way I look at it he could have made more money by selling me the Bianchi but he didnt and steered me in the right direction. To me thats customer service and thats why this place has been around fr so long. By the way I did some research on the bike he sold me and he was right, its considered one of the best road bikes under 1500.00. Thanks again. read more

Agree with the reviewer who commented on their straight-forward, friendly service. I've never used them for any service, other than for minor adjustments with that one purchase, so I can't comment on their repair work.
