This place is by far the best bicycle shop I've ever been to. I highly recommend them to those looking to get a bike. Appearance: The looks of this store is absolutely gorgeous. They have a wide selection of goods and carry all types of great looking bikes. It's not hard to find what you want as everything is layered out in a organized manner. I really like how they have the assembly/repair area exposed so you can witness the work they're doing on a certain bike. Customer Service: Caesar is the bomb. A really patient and understanding guy. I tend to be a real spaz at times and on my own fault can be a bit problematic. Seeing how patient and helpful Caesar was to me made me feel comfortable into placing a order on a expensive bike. Prior to coming to this location, I visited 2 bike stores. One was very rude and the order was a bit mellow. I wasn't expecting much after that but the workers at Grand Bicycle Center are the best. They answered all of my complex questions and was really kind. They know they're stuff. Bike: I got my bike yesterday and boy was I happy. I made sure to check for any flaws my bike may of had from the assembly and none were found. No dents, scratches, or loose screws. From the time I ordered the bike to the moment I received it, the guys were maintaining a good conversation and update on the status of my bike. I got my bike at the price I was hoping for so I'm a happy camper. Caesar was able to adjust the seat height for me and explained to me why it has to be at a certain height. Perfect height. He was also able to give me a good idea between a medium and large sized bike. He recommend a medium but still gave me the choice of choosing, so I went with it. I felt like a large would of been better after a couple of days from when I ordered, but when the bike arrived. The medium was perfect. Extra: I really like that if your ever lacking an item, you can always request it from these guys and they'll be able to get it for you. I'm in need of water guards to prevent the bike tire from splashing water onto my face. Rather than having to worry if the package going to arrive at my house and trying to figure out how to assemble it, they'll be able to handle it for me. I got the one year of free service with the purchase of a bike which is real lovely. I can bring my bike over at any time for a check up and know it will be in good hands. Every time I go here for service, I always have to turn around and have it looked at their work because they didn't do it properly. I had a flat tire replaced. When I left the fender was rubbing against the tire. I turned around and had it looked at again. He said that he fixed it, but he didn't. I figured that when I got home, I would look at it and fix the problem. I couldn't. I have to go back and have it fixed properly. What's really funny is that a guy was having something done to his bike before me then left. When I was returning to have my bike looked at again, he had returned as well to have something to his bike again. I just got back from shop. The fender wasn't rubbing against the tire for a little over 100 yards then it started again. I refuse to go back to this place. I had a flat tire; now I have a fender that rubs against my tire. came to the store a couple times before my bday to ask for a "custom"--converting one of their stock bikes into a hybrid. came after my bday and put a deposit on a bike and for them to be able to get the motor/parts for the work. had the work delayed until probably another month, picked it up and it doesn't work so about a week later I came to ask for a refund. they claim "no refunds" which I didn't know and wouldn't have bought the bike if I didn't know. they knew it was a sham so they offered to possibly find a buyer. waited from late April to August (probably their busiest season) just to get a call (and I made sure to call every so often for updates "no there are no buyer but I should get one by next week", "no right now it's slow", to even "no can't sell the bike because of the scratches from the motor being mounted no one wants to buy it".... are you serious...?) but it's always easy to put the blame on some invisible higher up "manager" that's never in the store. so I finally took the bike and asked for a recipt for my records. bike originally tagged and I paid $600 for it plus $400 for the bogus conversion "custom". But the receipt has it for way less so they'll pull your leg for more when they can, especially if it's cash (which I always thought if you pay cash should be cheaper...). Don't make the same mistake and just skip this shop. read more

I like to support local business and have been using the shop for decades under the original owners and the current owners. Dean, the owner, is most definitely 'The Man'. He cut me and my girlfriend an incredible deal on two 2010 Specialized bikes, giving us the 2009 rate and undercutting any other store in the region by a good amount. The store has been operating under the same family since the 50's, so they know their business well. They're not out to gouge you, they want to make sure you get the best bike possible for your budget. There's no evasion, there's no hard sell. After going to many other bike stores in Queens and in the city, and either being made to feel like an unworthy customer because I wasn't flashing a wedge of $2000 in my hand, or like a waste of their time because I was *gasp* looking for the best deal instead of committing to a purchase with them before I knew how much it was, Grand Bicycle was a refreshing difference. Dean was patient, answering my girlfriend's many, many questions. :) He even let our friend who also bought a bike swap it after she rode the original home and realized the frame was too big. In a year or two, when I'm shopping for a freeride 29'er, I'm definitely coming back here. Every other bike store in NYC pales in comparison. I even recommended a co-worker who lives in Hoboken to come here to buy her bike. They're that good, and the definition of great service. read more

i wanted a mountain bike, i tried Twin bike on Metropolitan ave in Middle Village, they were very nice and informative and had nice bikes and what seemed like fairly reasonable prices, but the place looked like it was ready to go out of business, that was a concern if i was going to spend $400+ on a bike, where would i go if i had problems with it? I tried Brooklyn Heights bike shop on Atlantic ave, they too had nice bikes, the worker and or owner knew their stuff about a wide variety but they don't haggle. I offered to buy a bike cash and he couldn't even save me the tax. He should raise all his prices $10 and at least make people feel like they are getting something. Then i went to Grand bike on Grand ave in Maspeth, Queens. This place has been here for as long as i can remember and i've been living in the area 20+ years, the original owner's son took over, i believe his name is Dean, a nice young guy, made me feel very comfortable. He was willing to wheel and deal a bit, he was patient, he was willing to order bikes if I didn't see anything I liked. I just bought a road bike here and it was an amazing experience. Dean who is the owner was very patient and just all around awesome. He not only gave me a great deal on a bike but threw in a water bottle. :] Also something to note is I accidentally gave him too much cash and he realized that right away and made sure I got the right amount back. Not sure why I gave them a 4 instead of a 5, maybe it could be a bit bigger and closer to a subway but they really are fantastic. I was looking for a particular Giant bike that I could see and test and I called around all over Manhattan and Brooklyn and there was only one place that had it but were strictly against test rides for some reason. Then I called Grand Bicycle and not only did they have it out, they had it in two different colors and they said of coarse I can test ride it and then told me they were open 7 days a week and to come on in anytime. I love these independent shops. You get the best care and attention. Took a couple of bikes in to get a tune up and added a few things. They were so nice and helpful and didn't try to up sell you on crap you don't need. I also needed a bike rack for the car and they came out looked at the vehicle showed me a couple options and after purchase showed me how to put it on and secure the bikes. Heck they even insisted I take pics or video to help with my tutorial. It doesn't get better than that! Needed to find a good bike repair shop. Called around to ask how much a tune would go for. Noticed that Grand Bicycle Center had a lot of positive reviews on Google. Decided to go with them and was glad to do so. Very friendly all around and phenomenal service. I spoke to Joe who was very thorough in his recommendation - turns out I went with changing the sprocket and chain instead of the tune up, which I may do down the road. It's going to cost me $60 including $20 for labor. I also wanted to replace a tire and asked for them to show me how to repair a flat. Very amenable. After my vintage Schwinn kickstand lost its ability to perform its namesake function, I first tried my local bike shop (Bushwick Bicycles). They didn't have the special Schwinn tool needed to remove the kickstand; they recommend I tried Grand Bicycles up in Maspeth. They had the right tool and removed my kickstand. Unfortunately old Schwinn parts are hard to find so they couldn't replace it, but at least it isn't in my way anymore. And they did this free of charge. Nice guys, nice place. read more

I was here to pick up 2 bikes. We worked with Chris and he was very helpful. We also needed some accessories and a car rack. Chris took his time to understand how we intent to use the bikes then explain to us the different type of gears and give us suggestion so that we don't over spend on unnecessary gears. He teach us how to mount the car rack and bike on the car. We got more than a regular sale services. If I bought these equipment somewhere else I might be reading the menu on a street curb somewhere to mount the car rack. The store also have a good range of selection. read more

This is the best bike shop there is. I'm not a hipster yuppie bike enthusiast, but I'm from the neighborhood and everyone bought their bike from Grand Bike Shop growing up. They always did the right things for everyone. I recently went in to the bike shop looking for a Bike trainer. Dean was extremely helpful and recognized me from the neighborhood. They do the right thing here. I bought the bike trainer but I decided to return. He returned the money to my credit card and presented no problems. He even offered a nice discount on a new bike if I wanted one. This place is first class. read more

Thank you Dean and Joe. I recently decided to take up bike riding again. Bikes have changed A LOT since I was a kid and I'm not old. Dean and Joe helped me choose a helmet, reflectors and even gave me great advice on bicycles, costs, etc. The prices are great and they sell you what you need, not what is most expensive (unless that's what you actually need). I decided it was time to buy my own bike instead of each year renting one. So on Memorial Day 2012, I decided to visit Grand Bicycle Center. Even though there were bike shops closer to my home, Grand Bicycle Center had the most positive reviews. I was not planning to buy a bike that day, just doing some homework. As soon as I walked into the shop I was greeted by one people that worked there, he was very friendly. The salesperson showed me the bikes they had on sale and more importantly educated me on the different type of bikes. I felt the salesperson was educating me so I could make the best decision for the bike I wanted. Never once did I feel pressured by anyone to buy a bike. The price was far cheaper than what I was planning to spend and it felt like a good fit when sitting on the bike, so I bought it that day. I also wanted a bike helmet too. Again they educated me on the bike helmets too, so I could make the best choice for me. They checked out the bike and did the adjustments for me so I could have a comfortable safe ride which I had with my first bike ride. I had a nice long ride from Grand Bicycle Center to my apartment in Jackson Heights on my new bike. For me it paid to go to a bike shop instead of department store. I doubt very much I would have received any attention like having the bike's handle bars and seat adjusted to me, or even an education on bikes and helmets, like I did at Grand Bicycle Center. One thing they to stress to me a few times as I was leaving the bike shop, my bike comes with one warranty and any problems with the bike bring it back to the shop. I would say "Quality, Service, Customer care and Price" are the words I can say about Grand Bicycle Center visit that day. read more

The service was great ask to tap a bottom bracket that costed 20$ which was great since other stores were doing it for 50. Then he said if I wanna to install the bracket and me thinking it should be only like 5-10 dollars to put a bb in said sure, but instead they charged me 25$ to put a bottom bracket in. I'm not sure to twist a bracket in cost 15$ labor and to buy a bottom bracket tool online is only 10$. They also never gave me a price before installing they just did it. read more

I came here after an alternative bike shop installed my Di2 groupset improperly, resulting in a crash. The service here was phenomenal- Brian, one of the mechanics was able to get me a quote over the phone based on the information I had for him. I ended up getting a tune up and some Ultegra 8070 levers installed. The expected turn around time was 2 days, but Brian had my bike ready the next day. Brian was also extremely communicative during the process- he contacted me on several occasions to inform me of parts that might need replacing and also asked for my preferences so that it could be set up just the way I like. He even asked if I had a fit file so he could set up my saddle position. Overall, I've been extremely impressed with the great service, fast turnaround time, and the attention to detail. The way they treat their customers, and their service was absolutely amazing. Dean, the boss, helped me out from fixing the seat, to correctly making sure all the bolts were secure, and even making sure my chain had the right tension. I just lost so much respect for this place. I consider myself a loyal customer, bought my road bike here and referred my sister to buy her road bike here as well. In preparation for a big ride, I brought both bikes for a basic tune up along two wireless cyclocomputers for them to put on while tuning up the bikes. Both bike took two hours. Two hours for a basic tune up. Yea, I thought that was pretty ridiculous. The older gentleman took the cyclocomputers without telling me upfront that there will be a charge. He just told me it would an hour for a bike. Came back for the pick up, no charge for the bikes, but it will be 20 bucks for the computers. I was shocked to the point of silence. Just paid up and left, still shocked and speechless. After driving for a block, the anger hit. I pulled over and brewed. I was just conned! Who the hell will charge for putting on a wireless computer, without letting the customer know! Whatever happened to customer service and transparency! Who the heck will pay that price! If he had told me upfront about the cost, I would have just installed them myself! Again, just shocked considering my sister and I gave them a couple of grand in business by purchasing our bikes from here. read more

There are two people who runs the bike shop, his dad and Dean the son. Dean is more knowledgeable with everything than his dad. I haven't been there for a while since I was very upset with a bike I bought from there. Dean always gives me a nice discount on everything I bought from his shop. But the last bike I bought from Dean was too big, and Dean told me it was the right size for me. A couple of Professional bike fitters and cyclists always said to me, I think the bike is too big for you. One thing about Grand Bicycles is there's nobody who knows anything about giving you a Professional fitting, which usually take about 2hrs. At the end, I had to sell the bike and lost a lot of money. I'm basically a road bike guy and the only thing that would interest me at Grand Bicycles is the Specialized road bikes. Otherwise you need to look somewhere else with more selections. Grand Bicycles got more selection on mountain bikes. Conclusion : Make sure you know your size before going to buy a bike at Grand Bicycles, especially if you're buying a road bike. Overall Dean is a cool guy, I guess everybody will make mistakes, but this mistake cost me $1000. Since then I deal with 2-3 other bike shops who knows me very well, and will take very good care of me since I'm a very good customer. read more

Great local bicycle shop on grand ave in maspeth. Had my bike tuned up there. Price was reasonable and they did a great job. Bike did 28 miles just fine on the NYC bike tour a week later. Good selection of helmets and I got a good deal on a car trunk bike rack that was on sale. Their mechanic installed it and showed me how to remove and Re-install it. Overall a great place. read more

My husband and I were here yesterday. The first time was when my husband brought over my bike to have it checked out because it was making strange noise. They thought him funny because he was riding a woman's bike. But that's a story for a different time. This review is for yesterday's service. My husband arrive there first (with my bike) to finally purchase a bike for himself. Mine was too small and was causing him discomfort; knees and wrist. I arrived much later by foot with our children's trailer/stroller. They were quite friendly. Unfortunately our trailer was too wide so I never got the chance to step into the shop. Because of that the owner, I believe, brought out the bikes that were suggested for my husband. They were beautiful bikes. The first was a road bike. We absolutely loved the paint on it. But since it lacked the suspension we couldn't say yes to it which got him to bring the next one. It a was hybrid with rugged wheels. I had to say that for me it was love at first sight. Made my bike (which I've gotten the chance to ride three times max since it was bought) look dull. And I LOVED my bike. We got necessary essentials to discern our worries over possible theft with locked parts and a heavy duty lock for the new bike. It didn't take forever. My husband went back again today to have fenders installed. Very quick process. He's happy with it. The guys were friendly and helpful. We would definitely be coming back here as often as we need to. Joel helped me a lot and even fixed some parts of the bike when I didn't even ask for free. I ultimately choose to fix the entire bike since there were many problems. This is an amazing store! I have been going there since I was 6 (25 years now). Dean is fantastic and he does not pressure you to buy and always has time to answer any questions. I was there yesterday looking to buy a new mountain bike and I was given loads of info and a full book on Giant bikes. I ended having Grand Bike put new tires, a seat and give my Specialized a once over. I was pressed for time and it was done the same day, in fact within an hour and a half. Don't let the size of the shop fool you because they seem to have everything. The price was also very reasonable considering they were installed so quickly. I even got a free water bottle. I bought my first adult bike from here in September. I knew very little about bicycles but Dean was friendly and illustrated the differences between the two bicycles I was looking to buy. I originally wanted to buy a Giant Boulder '11 but Dean suggested that, for the money, I would be better off buying a Specialized Hardrock se '12 because the frame was lighter and it had better specifications. Some of the Specialized features were comparable to other higher priced bicycles at the shop. While I was reluctant to spend more than $400, it made sense to buy a more "serious" mountain bike than Giant's. He was clear to state that both were great bicycles and would do what I wanted (commute, survive pothole towns, and do off-road trails) but it slowly became clear to me that the higher priced bike made more sense if i was riding often and intended to do trail riding. The price difference was $100. I didn't feel pressured to buy the bike and he didn't use subtle tactics to speed up my decision. After reading some reviews and watching a few videos, the bicycle Dean suggested was indeed a better purchase for the things I wanted to do. There are plenty of videos of my specialized bicycle on mountain trails but very few giant ones...perhaps the heavier frame on the latter is the reason why? Once I left the store, I had trouble pedaling because the gears were set for a steep uphill (my fault--I was playing with this at the store as though I was 8). Dean stopped me on the street and taught me how to use the bicycle's gear shifts. I really appreciated that since I think he was leaving to get himself a cup of coffee or perhaps lunch. My previous bicycle was purchased by my parents from toysrus and had since lost its gear changing function and had a rusty chain. I would have looked pitiful for quite a while if he hadn't stopped. I recommend this store as your favorite local bicycle shop. They're happy to help you if you want to buy something and they're just as happy if you come in just to get questions answered or browse their inventory--like I did a day before I purchased my bike. Updated review: Previously it was "subpar but quick, inexpensive service" but the bike shop has underdone a total renovation. Now, the service and work that is performed has improved greatly but still maintains reasonable prices. For example, the repair area is now out in the open, which improves the service and communication. It is definitely a go to local bike shop in Queens.
