I brought a bike from Amazon for my 7 year old son. However it was very hard for him to pedal. The owner said their is nothing wrong with the bike and said it is fine. I asked if he can reassemble it maybe fix it which he did for a small fee of $50. I greatly appreciate the honesty , knowledge of bicycles, customer service and the craftmanship. He fixed the training wheels so they are even. Once my son grows out of this bike I will certainly buy a new bike from Spin City. read more

I have to say, never in a million years would I think I'd ever learn to ride a bike as an adult, but I'm starting to finally get the cycler's high and that puts me in the population that NYC drivers want to run over. I had every intention of just checking out what riding a Specialized bike felt like since I was not ready to invest in a brand-new bike and hoped to buy a second-hand bike. But I was immediately convinced and excited to walk out with a new bike the moment that I walked in, all thanks to Jimmy's friendliness. He wasn't trying to convince me or aggressively push me to buy something. He was actually quite the opposite. He gave me his honest input about the pros and cons of the bike that I was eyeing and what would best fit my lifestyle. He was so chill about letting me take the bike out for a spin for as long as I needed (I left my phone with him for collateral, but still) and I was hooked and ready to go home with a new bike...but not so instantly. Since I live out in northeastern Queens, you can only imagine the bike ride home, which isn't bad but it was getting late. He actually offered to bring the bike to me, which he didn't have to do at all but it showed me that he values his customers and makes sure that they get the best experience possible. I've been riding my bike for about 6 months now and I pretty much ride it religiously...so much that I got into an accident the first day I took it out but the quality of the bike is of high caliber so no parts were broken or lost. We came in here today with my nieces bike that my fiancé and I attempted to put together ourselves. When we got to the brake part we were lost. So to be on the safe side we brought her bike in and the whole team was so friendly! They were able to fix it within a half hour and we were on our way. Spin city cycle I have been a customer for years at this shop .I used to go to them when they were at there old location a few blocks away from their location that they are now .over the years I have brought bikes and accessories you name it . I purchased my second dahan fold up bike from them back in 2006 .it was ideal for me at the time because I could fold the bike up a put it on the train if I didn't want to ride home from flushing meadows park.i was working there during that time .this particular dahan had the foot breaks on it .was not a free wheel but it was fast. I didn't need any gears on it.I already had a 21 speed dahan fold up bike .so this new one that I bought From spin city to me was a little better. It had the extinction on the handle bars .that aloud me to raise my handle bars to the height that I wanted to. So I would have to say this was one of my favorite bikes .I was a average bike buyer..and this was my 3rd dahan fold up bike.it was light and weight and had the fold up pedals. And it had a rack on the back. That same year I had purchased a specialized 24 speed street bike real light with suspension in the fork and in the seat post .this was one of the most comfortable bikes I had owned ..I had purchased a cloud 9 gel cushion seat for it from them also .because I ride 365 days out of the year I need the comfort. From work to joy riding this bike was one of my favorites. To me it was better than my cannondale bike. And if you want a good seat this shop is the ideal place for you. I had brought a seat for my 27 speed dahan fold up. It was one of the best seats that I ever had .with the quick release seat post I had to keep a lock around my seat .it was a gel cushion seat and I never forgotten it. So even till this day I still ride every day. And I stop by once and while at there 98-73 location. To get information on any bike parts I may need for my trek bike that I use every day. Awesome mom and pops style bike shop. It's always the same guy in the store and he's very friendly and knowledgeable. I dropped my bike off for a tune up and it came back brand new on the things that they changed. It's only a one speed bike so replacing the chain wasn't much but new chain, brakes pads, and the brake line. They also filled up tires. Less than a $100. They also have bikes for sale and all the accessories as well. Helmets, gloves, bags, etc. I haven't really looked over the bikes for sale in too much detail yet but they look they have everything. This store sells only Specialized Brand bikes which is one of the top brands. Jimmy the owner explained to us patiently what we need for our 8 years old boy. I admit that I am not the best bicycle mom. Other than bringing my bike in to REI for a weird noise once, I had never serviced my bike. I thought that was a tune up, but it was not. After years of hearing a weird clicking when changing gears and having just dropped my bike (with me on it), I decided to take it in for a tune up. I had walked by Spin City many times and even borrowed their outside bike pump once. Jimmy and his staff were very friendly. They assessed my bike and gave me an estimate, which was more than what I had expected. Whatever work was done at REI was only $15 and I thought that was the norm. Jimmy explained what exactly they would do with the bike and patiently answered all of my questions. He knows his stuff! I picked up my bike a few days later and it was well worth the money! I immediately hopped on Queens Blvd and took it for a spin. No more weird clicking when changing gears. It rides like a new bike due to the new chain and all the adjustments they made! Bike was also cleaner than its ever been. The brakes do make a squeaky noise when engaged, but I'm guessing it's normal because they're new. Overall, a very happy camper with a bike that rides like new! Tip- I went to pick up around 6:30pm as they were about to close at 7pm. Lots of foot traffic at this time, so go earlier if you want to beat the crowd. read more

I went in for training wheels and left paying closed to $50 dollars. The installation of the wheels took 5 minutes, which I didn't asked for, had I known there would be a fee I would have done it myself. I wished the fees were expressed upfront, I didn't anticipate to pay so much so something so minor. I only realized afterwards when they rang it up. I'm so happy with the work they did refurbishing my bike. It was worth every penny because I now feel very confident as an overweight rider that I can get exercise, get around Queens, and not have to worry about flats whenever I run over a shard of glass. I'm not a long-time biking enthusiast, so I can't add much in terms of price and quality comparisons with this review, but my Specialized hybrid is very sturdy now and has all of the bells and whistles. It feels great riding it and I plan to return to Spin City for more gear as needed. Jimmy, the proprietor, is awesome. He's knowledgeable, enthusiastic and kept me updated about my bike's progress along the way. Dave is a perfectly nice fellow, but I think his people skills need a little bit of brushing up. I got the impression that his wheelhouse is tinkering with the bikes themselves because when I dealt with him at the front of the house he didn't take much initiative in terms of finding out what my needs were. I had to carry the entire exchange and elicit every bit of info, usually getting little more than one-word responses like "yeah" or "sure". Again, he's not an unpleasant person at all, but customer service isn't his bag, and since he was the face of Spin City when I got there, I'm holding off on five stars for now. On 3 occasions the older man called me in to the shop to discuss a separate issue that must be repaired. He's clever. ADVICE: 3 strikes and you're out. Got really bad 1st impression. I was in need to replace the worn-out brake pads on a kids bike so I decided to stop by at the local bike store before searching online. They were open but the man who behaved like a store owner didn't let me in, he was asking questions at the doorstep. The bike was a gift originally purchased from their store so I just named the model but they insisted on showing them the pictures of the brakes. I didn't have any pictures so I asked to show me what brake pads they have for sale so I could pick up the right one. Instead of providing some little help, they refused and simply turned me out. If you've been cycling for a while you know what's reasonable and it's not really this place. Yes, they do tend to have the LATEST gizmos, but that's not necessarily the best. Responding to the owner's comment on my previous review. I never got the "wrong impression". My experience was exactly as written below and where a few things are assumed i say so. 4 Yelp stars is in no way proof of a "stellar reputation". It's the opposite. Check the rest of the reviews and count the bad ones. They are right below this review - 16 of them. The recent good reviews seem mostly from people either with very little experience with this place or from a few years ago when it was run by 2 other guys around 2015 or so. At least 20 percent of the the 65 reviews are 2 stars or lower. That's a pretty high percentage of dissatisfied and/or offended customers. For context, Uber has the same 5 star rating scale and they tell their drivers their jobs are at risk if their average rating is less than 4.6 and most bike shops in the city have a rating of 4.5 or higher. Look for yourself. A 4.0 review is fine, but a 4.0 average is pretty bad. They used to have cool people working here and maybe some of the staff is cool, but the owner is not. He is always trying to sell you the most expensive thing he can. When all you need is something safe and durable that will get you from point A to point B reliably, owner will try and sell you the priciest component he has. I've seen him catch a big attitude with a customer more than once and once when he was completely wrong. Owner does not care about what the customer wants or needs. One time he convinced a friend to by a $180 chain ring (not a full crankset for sure) for a $299 State single speed bike. Other times, i've had a part upgraded and the older part wasn't returned (part was 1000 percent fine). I called back when I remembered and the owner gave me a bit of an attitude again. I don't think they did it to sell the old part, they just don't have good, consistent service in mind. I've never seen a store owner look so money hungry and not even try to hide it. G-d forbid you walk in and you're the one who's being cost conscious - he'll give you a look of death. Haven't been back to this place in about 7 months or so. I used to spend $200 bucks a month there at times when they had super cool, highly competent and hardcore bike mechanics, the kind you'd only see in Brooklyn who I assume were bullied by the owner and left. I can only assume why they left, but honestly not sure. I am sure that I will never come back again no matter what. Whoever has given the few positive reviews I see probably don't know much about bike shops. Probably buying their first bike for a kid or something. If you are a new cyclist and don't know much about prices around the city, the owner will be as sweet as pie and so excited to have you as a customer. Understandable if running a small business in NYC is tough, but don't take it out on a customer. EVER. Be nice always, not 90 percent of the time. Any owner can be nice most of the time. There are plenty of bike shops in NYC who believe they are providing a service to the cycling community and make money having satisfied customers who are more than happy to take your business as they have taken mine from yours. It's a hassle riding a few extra miles somewhere else and that's why I put up with it longer than I should have, but I wouldn't come back to Spin City ever again. There's a reason the shop is on a busy boulevard with a full bike lane right in front of it and it's still empty most of the time. Not saying this place is the worst ever by any means, but if you want good value and want to be confident you will get polite customer service, go somewhere else. read more

Came here to get my inner tube installed on an 88mm wheel. Owner kept telling me that the tire would not go on, but they had originally put in on a couple years ago. He kept arguing with me that it was not an old tire even though I've put countless miles on it and the wear and tear is visible. It's tough to get on gatorskins I get it, but if you don't want to do it I can just go to another shop. I don't need to argue about it, ridiculous. Ended up failing to put the tire on and gave my money back. This was my go to shop, but I won't come back. read more

I bought a very good quality bike from Spin City Cycle a little bit over a year ago. When I was contemplating buying the bike, one of the perks the owner threw in was that I could come in any time over the next three weeks to get my bike serviced. I had gotten the bike serviced around three months after buying it and everything was great. Today, I went in to get my bike serviced again. The owner informed me that a full servicing of the bike costs $68 and that only break adjustments are free. Now, I know they made me sign a bunch of forms when I bought the bike, so I may have technically "agreed" to such a policy. But when explaining to me, when I bought the bike originally, what the three year warranty included, they said standard servicing. All businesses are perfectly entitled to make up their own policies. They can even word them deceptively and make you sign paperwork affirming this. But I wouldn't advise patronizing these businesses. Spin City Cycle is deceptive in the way it words its servicing policy when it sells bicycles. Just read all the reviews on this page. Additionally, while I usually could care less if the owner is rude ( I wouldn't go to the effort to write a review), in this case, the owner only seemed interested in explaining his pricing structure to me and maintained an overall rude demeanor towards me. Retail is almost entirely based on customer service; its a misconception to think it is only about cash flows and selling inventory. I won't be returning to Spin City Cycle and I would advise you do the same. Although their bikes are indeed of a high standard, I would advise finding a store with good customer service. I should add that when I originally purchased a bicycle from them, they were very sweet and not rude at all. I was very surprised today; despite having deceptive policies, the owner could have at least explained it nicely. read more

I've been a customer of Spin City for years, but they lost me as a customer today forever. I brought in a bike I'd ordered online and had a friend assemble in order to purchase a kickstand and have them install it. Rudest guy ever (I'd not seen him there before) told me he could sell me the kickstand, but wouldn't attach it unless I paid to have the entire bike re-assembled. For SEVENTY-FIVE DOLLARS!!!!!!! When I pointed out that my old bike came from Costco and they had happily taken hundreds of dollars from me to put on new tires, replace the seat and other pimp my ride needs, he told me that this was "new policy," and shrugged when I said he'd lost Spin City a customer. Go a half mile down the Boulevard to CIGI Bike Shop. Jeff couldn't have been nicer, and was happy to put on a kick stand and adjusted the seat for free. read more

I said I"'m looking for a bike" he said the problem is we don't have none your size" I immediately didn't like the way he just asumed it was for me. I have a beach cruiser and knew that it was time to upgrade when I decided to ride in the Five Boro Bike Tour. I had already been shopping around for a new bike but had not found exactly what I was looking for. The last bike store had nice bikes, but not the color I wanted and I'm not down for dropping $500+ for a bike I half like. So I decided to visit Spin City and I'm so happy I did. Right off the bat, their sales guy Yoshi made more sense than any other shop I went to. He knew the science behind what bike would be best for me and was generally very knowledgeable. He sized me and made sure the bike I was looking at was a perfect fit. They let me test ride the bike which also really helped in making my decision (make sure you have ID and a credit card on hand if you want to test ride a bike). I also really appreciated that he wasn't pushy. When my husband and I needed a second to talk, he was very sweet and did not pressure us. Their prices are fair (you get what you pay for!) and their selection is great. They have adorable tricycles all the way up to professional bikes. They also have a wide range of accessories and helmets. The owner (manager?) was on hand and was also very customer friendly and helpful. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend them if you are looking to buy a bike. read more
