I bought my YUBA Mundo LUX back in 2015, riding it with some level of consistency. She's a pretty cargo bike in matte black silver lettering. I bought the long tail model with the bamboo top, rear outriggers, side load carry bags, heavy plastic skirts that fit over the rear tires, disk brakes front and back with a 500 pound rear (700Lbs maximum) capacity for your chubby bar friends that need a ride home, or for some groceries and maybe your young child like most normal people would be transporting. I didn't have a set reason for getting into the cargo bike world, but I can see that it's getting more popular all the time, and YUBA - the true cargo pioneers (viva Netherlands) has only been being producing for only 7-8 years now -- I was ahead of the curve for once in my life. I didn't electrify it yet, but I'm eyeing the Bosch power supply kit as I'm reading up on the new I -Bionx thing. So one particular oaf of a doof wanted to ride it which I knew was a bad idea, I don't particular care for this knucklehead to start with and of course he broke my left shifter as she's a 21 speed 1-7. 7-14. 14-12 on the left and the inbetweenies on the right. Business/personal decision that works really well. No, I'll not ask for the money, it's worth every penny to be free from that person no matter the final bill. On a recommendation by my bestie, we secured both our bikes to my rig, I found parking right in front on Myrtle Avenue (which at times, can be a miracle within itself). My YUBA is like a tugboat limousine hybrid and is rough to turn in tight spaces so I waited outside with Big Phil knowing I'd knock over their entire displays -- cause I'm clumsy too, big time clumsy, "Max better roll her in" I thought to myself. I really wanna get the pull rear car for Big Phil and buy him one if those World War 1 German helmets with the single spike, the Rebel Without a Cause vintage leather goggles and an appropriate scarf - like Snoopy wears when he sits upon he's house to dogfight the Red Barron. After two fellas placed Yubes upon the lift, close detailed eyes looked everywhere and not much having to do with my shifter - even the non bike mechanic in me could see that. Max and his guys were looking and cleaning and spraying, turning and lubing -- the care I witnessed from the door to the repair section in the rear was like no other. Such detail and attention, so after 30-40 minutes I was given a price which blew my socks off (I'm still looking for my socks) as it was reasonable beyond reasonable. I had to leave Yubes for two days which told me everything Max and his team did today at the shop was all to get her in the best possible road ready shape for me, the shifter repair they'd handle later. It took a bit for that to wash over me, it was such a wonderful feeling to know all the care within a too industry professionals hands -- because he cared. read more

Absolute miracle workers at this shop. I ran over a piece of glass on my Vanmoof S3 front tire while biking from Williamsburg to Flushing and thought I was screwed. With Vanmoof having proprietary anti theft nuts on the tire, I didn't have the tool with me and it would be impossible to remove the tire to replace the tube. Spokesman Cycle was able to patch the tube without taking full wheel off. There were a few people ahead of me but because they realized it was only a flat tire, they prioritized my bike. Spokesman Cycles is located on a street that has easy parking. When I walked inside, I was greeted with a friendly smile. I browsed through the bikes to seek the bicycle I needed. Nobody hovered over me or suggested a particular bike. That was a relief! There was one bike that seemed to fit my needs. I wanted to change the tires, and Max (manager) said, "no problem! We can even change the handle bars if that's what you want." It was obvious that Tony & Max have a passion for bikes. They go out of their way to help customers find the bike that's "just right." He and I "talked shop" for about 15 minutes, and I asked Max if there were other cycles that I might like better. Max went to his computer and pulled up at least a dozen bikes. When he did so, I found a bike that had every feature I needed. My new bike is being ordered, and I can hardly wait to ride it. If you're looking for a knowledgeable crew....well, this is the place you'd want to go. Max and Tony know their sh-stuff. I was 10 miles away from my starting point and stumbled upon Spokeman Cycles. I was having a reoccurring issue with my 8 gear internal hub. In the matter of (1) week I had already gone to (2) different shops before stopping here. I explained in detail to Max what the other shops had done or should I say, "Lack thereof." He informed me that I would be next as he was attending to a customer and also the bike stands were occupied. Not 20 minutes later my bike was being diagnosed. Max came back to show me what had been the problem, a gnarly kink in my shifter cable. He changed it out, lubed it, reassembled and test rode my bike. I also took the bike around to check it out. Everything way a-okay :-) Now, here is where the story gets better. On my way back home, as I was aggressively pounding the pavement, I started having trouble with my trigger shifter. It would take multiple attempts to get it to the next gear. This is now a different issue with my gearing system. WTF!! I get home and give Spokeman Cycle a call and ask to speak with Max. I explain again in detail what had transpired. I already had it in my head that my internal hub was shot but Max reassured me that it did not sound like that was the culprit. Next morning I go to the shop, they take my bike into the back. Next thing you know I'm back outside aggressively pounding the pavement and not (1) issue with my trigger shifter nor shifting into the full spectrum of gears. It was smooth as butter. I went back in to ask 'em what the damage was. I was answered back, " No Worries." I really can not understand all the mixed reviews with this establishment as my interaction with them was stellar. I live out of town and keep a bike in NYC to use when I'm here. It's been on a trainer for a long time and hasn't seen the road much. I brought it to Spokesman for a chain clean/lube and derailleur adjustment, needing it back quickly before having to leave town again. They were super accommodating and started working right away. Unfortunately, the bike had some problems that took more troubleshooting than planned. I left the bike overnight and was able to pick it up the next day. It's an older bike, and it performed beautifully on today's ride. I appreciate that they started with adjustments and cable replacement before moving to more expensive parts. Ultimately, I ended up with a new cassette, which they upgraded from 105 to Ultegra at a discount, and a chain. For a small shop, they have a good selection of tools for the home mechanic, as well as parts. read more

2 horrible experiences here! The first started when they were trying to sell my father (older guy who knows nothing about bikes) a bike that was 2 years old for retail price. I went back in there to double check the facts about the bike and price and when i pointed out this bike model was 2 years old they pretended to be in shock and they said it was a mistake. Second experience was when I went in inquiring about a tri bike and they showed me a Kestrel . I found that same bike online for $1,000 cheaper so i bought it online and gave it to them to buid it. They acted so nice and as if it were not a problem. I checked that all parts were in the box prior and they pretended to lose some parts and then they asked me they would need the information from where i bought it. That was the last strike for me. Agree with Antonio O. This bike shop tried to scam me. Went for brakes and after changing front caliper told me I needed a new rim. Total bill was ridiculous at over $135 and the mechanic accused me of not telling him there was something wrong with the rim. How would I know what caused the tire to rub. None of the staff were wearing masks and when I questioned it they said they weren't required to by law which isn't correct. They are supposed to be when less than 6 feet from customers and when checking them out. The manager said If you're wearing one I don't have to. Spokesman Cycles in my opinion is prolly one of the best bike stores in Queens. They have a nice variety of brand name bikes, skateboards, clothing, accessories and more. Before Spokesman opened, the bike stores around Elmhurst, Rego Park, Forest Hills, Ridgewood all sucked. At Spokesman, their store is pretty large and their service is great. I purchased my Bianchi Via Nirone over here and got a pretty sweet deal on it. They carry a bunch of other Bianchi's, Jamis, and more. The guy who works here, Johan is very knowledgeable of the store's inventory and very customer friendly. As for their accessories, they got just about anything you need from lights, helmets, to fenders, handlebars, pedals. They got it all here and their store is well stocked. Spokesman is the only store I like in Atlas Park and if you're in the neighborhood, be sure to check them out. As for Atlas Park, they'll continue to suck as long as its opened. One of the best bike stores in Queens. They have a wide selection of road, mountain, bmx bikes and skate boards. Also, they sell shoes and apparel for cycling. I come here all the time to get all my tools for my road bike. I also come here to get my tune up done. I think I only paid 15 dollars (it would have been free if i bought my bike there) but its still an awesome deal. I have had several incidents where I've tried to bring this bike shop business but each time I'm extremely disappointed In their work or all around customer service. I recently relocated from Brooklyn to Atlanta. When I reassembled my bike I didnt align the peddle correctly. This caused it to strip and damage the crankarm. During a recent visit to Brooklyn I was at the Atlas Park cinema. I went to Spokesman on 9/28/14 for a crankarm. I dealt with Kevin, the younger of the two employees. I showed him pictures of my problem. He suggested I get a crank set. I told him only one crankarm was damaged. He advised me to get the set. I have no experience changing a crankset, per his suggestion I went to youtube found a how to video. I used the tool they sold me - it's done! My bike is back on the road. Bought a bike from them about 2 months ago Specialized Pitch. Bike is great however the service at Spokesman Atlus was crappy. I'm new to the area I should have done my homework on more of the Local shops before buying from them. I went there again recently to buy a part for my bike to give it a second change but once again they dropped the ball on "Service". The owner or manager looked like he didn't want to be bothered and was just on the computer the entire time even when I made eye contact to ask a question. I waited about 15 min until someone came up to me to help when they went to look up the part they got side tracked I guess and started to help another guest. I waited another 20-25min and then asked for help and they told me to wait that someone will be with me. At that point I just walked out. Never again! read more

Bought a bike from here and was very happy with the staff and service. Knowledgeable folks who didn't try and push a more expensive bike on me and patiently explained my options while providing me a recommendation based on my needs. I went with a commuter hybrid and was really glad that they offered a three year free maintenance plan. Got on the road with my brand new set of wheels and everything was going swimmingly well. That is until I went back in for a routine maintenance tune up. I hail down one of there employees to tell him that I would like to drop my bike off for maintenance work. After receiving my ticket I Asked a few questions about a bike I was considering buying for my girlfriend. The dude bluntly replies to me " hey bro I"m a little busy with some work i gotta do, just grab one of the guys and ask them." I was a little shocked someone would treat a customer that way but I brushed it off and chalked it up to a employee having a bad day. They tell me it'll take an hour while they work on my bike so I take a merry little walk around the atlas mall waiting for their call. I get that call in exactly 17 minutes. I return back, they hand me me ticket, point to my bike resting on the wall and say " thanks for coming." I ride out and realize they hadn't done a thing to my bike. I'd asked for my brakes to be tightened prior to handing my bike off. Nothing. It's as if they completely of ignored me. Would not purchase another bike here considering all the shops floating around the city. read more
