I tried the Philly cheesesteak kolache and the beef kolache. My order cost $7. They have an option for warming up your kolache, which I thought was really nice! The Philly cheesesteak had a nice balance of cheese and meat. The filling is quite generous, and the bread isn't too thick. I wish the kolaches were a little bit bigger for the price. They didn't wow me, but they were pretty good! The service was nice.

Parking was ample as there is a side parking lot which it was full. Once inside the line wrapped around and there were many options. Ended up with a game and cheese kolache and coffee. They heated up the kolache before serving. As this was done before leaving the ordering area, it made sense why the line took a few to move. Service was friendly and great recommendations. I'd like to go back to try other kolchaes and they have a couple food trucks in the outside area if you wanted something more substantial.

It is a bit spicy...but I had to try it. Probably will not get that one again. The place is large and spacious (indoors and outdoors) and could be really great for groups. It has a large patio in the back that's used for Live music. They also have food trucks, one of which, is Paris BBQ. Therefore, you could listen to Live music have dinner or just have a adult beverage. They also feature comedy shows which is pretty cool. Their monthly calendar is posted on the wall. In addition, it is important to note they are on the pricier side. Sam, my server was super friendly and joyful. He steered me the ideal selections. Definitely will return in evening...

A warning: If you eat Weinerschnitzel in Vienna, you will be ruined for life on most of the…read moreversions you find elsewhere. But I was stupid, and hungry, and ordered what looked like the specialty of the house at Eve's Café. In fact, it looked like what they called a Wienerschnitzel was the basis for all sorts of schnitzel variations with different toppings and gravy. That should've been an extra warning for me. To be fair, the description on the menu said that what you would get was a pork chop, and that is what I got. It was a little bit tough, which I suspected in advance, watching the people at the next table, sewing on theirs. The breading was weird in a way that's hard to describe. It was somewhat over-seasoned, a little bit hard, and left an aftertaste that was slightly chemical. An even worse sin by Texas standards, it was small, as in the recommended meat portion size for healthy eating, about the size of my hand, minus the fingers. My side of onion rings had the same breading. And even though I am generally a gravy hog, I didn't especially care for the brown gravy that came with my meal. The German dill salad probably had some dill in it somewhere, but it was all drowned in so much mayonnaise-based dressing, I couldn't really taste it, and the whole thing turned into soup before I finished. This all really sounds terrible, but it wasn't actually terrible. I ate all of it except for the soupy salad, but it just never rose beyond competent, when I had gotten my hopes up for some good German food. As I looked around at what others were eating, I really wished I had ordered one of the fabulous-looking sandwiches, burgers, or bratwurst. Those are harder to mess up. The restaurant itself has a nice location on the Square in Lampasas, and a charming vibe. The Thursday lunch crowd was good sized so it looks like a popular local place. The service was very friendly and pretty quick--maybe little TOO quick, as if my schnitzel might've been waiting for me under a heat lamp. Once I'd finished, I was still a little hungry, and considered ordering a slice of their Black Forest Cake. But I have had Black Forest Cake in Bavaria, and I simply couldn't bear another disappointment.

Any ways the waiters was friendly and welcoming. She took our oder quickly and brought us libations. The food looked good and tasted outstanding! The meat was soft and the brown gravy was on point. I stopped at Dos Gatos for coffee and also picked up a few sweet treats for later (wink, wink!) Dos Gatos, which I believe means two cats, is a shop for "on the go" folks...no inside seating and small space. The shop focuses on fast service, and fresh baked goods, with kolaches baked daily. Dos Gatos has a variety of items such as sweet kolaches with traditional fillings like apricot, poppy seed, strawberry, raspberry, and cream cheese. They have savory kolaches such as sausage and cheese, jalapeño sausage, chorizo, ham and cheddar, and vegetarian sausage options. The turkey sausage kolache was the standout...sometimes called a pig in the blanket. One downside of the sweet kolaches is they are rather small. I forget how small they were until my hubby mentioned also. A surprise bonus was their full espresso bar, which includes lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, chai, cold brew, etc. Pricing was at the low end of the spectrum. I purchased coffee, sweet and savory kolaches.

Wanted to try a different restaurant this past weekend and was craving a Pastrami Reuben sandwich…read moreso I looked on Yelp to find some good suggestions. Found this place, looked at the menu and checked it out. The place is very rustic, lots of wood and western-themed. We were asked if we wanted to sit outside or by the bar but I wanted somewhere quiet so we sat in the dining room off the main entrance. Lots of light flood thru. A musician was setting up outside but it was still a little chilly for me. We were the 2nd couple who was in this dining room as most were in the bar area. I passed by on my way to the bathroom and it was open towards the back deck so it had a nice vibe with college football playing on the screens. We were greeted by the waitress and ordered drinks--iced tea and Diet Pepsi while perusing the menu. We both ordered the Pastrami Reuben which came with a side. I chose the Warm Potato Salad to try it out and hubs got the Sauerkraut which was surprisingly warm and fresh. The waitress said "You've never had warm Sauerkraut??" And we hadn't! She also said if I didn't like the Warm Potato Salad, she'd give me something else. Our sandwiches came shortly thereafter and I'd say they were great! The meat was juicy and tender and a good portion, the rye bread wasn't too thick which was nice and just a little Swiss cheese was added and some Sauerkraut. I took some of my hubs' Sauerkraut to add a little more to 1/2 of my sandwich. He loved it and ate all the Sauerkraut with joy. I tasted my Warm Potato Salad which is a German style and the first 2 bites were okay. Then it got too vinegary for me so I just ate the bacon bits and just another bite of potatoes. I know where our next stop is the next time I want a Pastrami Reuben! I took photos of the building on our way out as it had lots of character.

Our server was a lovely older gentleman, who tried to accommodate us despite issues with the kitchen. The weather was nice and we enjoyed sitting outside with live music. Not so good things: Sitting outside was nice, except the musicians had their music way too loud for the size of the space and it was a restaurant, not a concert venue. We literally had to yell to hear each or the server. The kitchen was backed up so it took forever for our food to arrive. The food was also pretty expensive. We don't visit Fredericksburg very often, but I think we'll stick with Auslander when we want German food.
