I stopped in this bar as my 1st two options were so packed and I was starving. I was carded at the door, which was interesting. And then pulled up a seat at the bar. The bartender did NOT seem excited to be there at all and that it pained him to speak. As a matter of fact, he didn't speak. He just handed me a faintly printed menu with just a few hotdogs and mostly drinks. Ugh. Because I was starving, I opted for the first dog on the menu - with mushrooms and mustard. A dive in West Loop? Def wasn't expecting that. Interesting little place with your standard greasy bar food type of menu. Went after work for happy hour and it was crowded, but managed to get a seat at the bar. Bartenders were nice, but service was a bit lacking as it took about 10 mins to get served. I had a mezcal margarita and it was just mediocre. Decent place to go if you want a drink under $10. This may be one of the greatest bars in Chicago. We popped in here last Saturday, and it was annoyingly crowded. Crowded is not usually bad, but just not in the mood for that sort of thing on that night. Next day, we found ourselves in the area again, and popped in! Much nicer scene. Mostly empty, but maybe a half dozen people scattered around the bar, the after brunch crowd. Perfect. We were lured in by some Belgian beers on the chalkboard outside. Luckily, this bar also features the world's most awesome bartender. First, tall, blonde good looks and extremely friendly personality. Second: mad bartending skills! And generous samples of interesting booze! Great beer list. Beer snobs can be happy here. My new favorite cocktail: the Modern Shrubbery. It's got champagne vinegar in it! I've been here twice - once, in November 2014 for a drink or two between dinner & an event and again in February 2015, this past weekend. First time? Overpriced, overhipster, and overpretentious. Second time? overpriced, overhipster, and ..... ok. November? The fellow clientele was great - but no one seemed to be a "regular." IT was packed, but no one was pushy or rude. That's probably why the bartenders were so cranky and rude, no one was wearing plaid & dirty knit caps. It took a LONG time to get any service, and when it was happened upon, we were treated as though I had done him a disservice for ordering a drink. Whatever. Drinks tasted good, though. Fast forward to this past weekend - mid-day on a Sunday, while waiting for our table at Little Goat. We all ordered drinks (I was not drinking, #TurnDOWNforFebruary - a month sans booze) but I did order a pineapple & Sprite and the bartender was kind and didn't laugh or give me mess about it. However, when friends were ordering "real" drinks and trying to pay (some cash, some plastic) he insisted on putting in on one bill, then splitting later - seriously, now? JUST DO IT NOW. It is NOT any easier later. We weren't running a tab, and no one drinking a $7 beer wants to pay part of someone else's $12 bloody mary. Get with it, sir. We popped in for an after-dinner drink and I'm so glad we did! This place is solid if you're looking for a casual spot for some drinks and maybe some snacks. A friend of mine had the grilled cheese with french fries which looked ok. Maybe a little undercooked IMO but he wasn't looking for fancy. We had just eaten at Bad Hunter so we went right for the brown liquors. They have Eagle Rare so that's a huge plus. They were also playing great retro music like Steely Dan. We popped into Lone Wolf with the objective many others had: kill time before our reservation next door (which we ended up cancelling). I really wish I were in the mood for beer because this place has LOTS of great options. I ordered a glass of cab from the limited wine list. It was fine and I'm pretty sure I was the only one drinking wine in the entire place. It's a great spot for drinks and a snack, but I've also heard their food is awesome. The staff was attentive and very kind on a crowded Friday night. I really don't have anything negative to say about Lone Wolf, but nothing jumped out to me as incredible. We stopped in here during our wait for Au Cheval and it was just fine! We got out drinks as we sat at the bar and chatted for a while. The bartenders weren't super attentive or personable which is always a bit of a bummer to me, but oh well! I had to use the restroom and was shocked to see that the mens was on the main floor but you had to head to the basement to use the womens. Seemed like an odd choice and kind of gross to me. The bathroom itself was fine but I would have prefered to not head to a mostly unfinished basement. Super average bar for the area it is in but nothing major to complain about! read more

My friends and I made our way over to Lone Wolf Friday after work. You can tell this is the local watering hole for a lot of folks working in West Loop and for good reason! The draft list is pretty extensive, with a variety of options for all you beer connoisseurs out there. From what I could tell, cocktails were moderately priced based on the area. We managed to snag some seats at the bar, but there was a decent amount of booths scattered around. Could see this being a good spot for after-dinner drinks or even if you're trying to kill some time waiting for a table at Au Cheval. First of all, there are many beer options. It made choosing a drink very easy. Second of all, they have perfect bar food. We ordered cheese sticks and fried pickles. The portion was huge for the price! And it was very tasty. There is more than adequate seating at the bar, and there are enough tables around that you can sit there if you want to hang out with a group. I've been here several times, being that it is my "neighborhood bar". I feel torn to give this bar four stars but my wallet explicitly asked me to say three ... The cocktails here are a little pricey but they do pack a punch. I have always found the bar to be very charming, I like the open space and I definitely enjoy the dark, romantic, even mysterious ambiance. I've had several good experiences with the wait staff, very friendly and they seem to know what's on their menu. Popped in for a drink in between reservations on NYE and this place was pretty wide open, which was actually pretty nice as we were able to easily grab a table and have a relaxed time. Pretty casual spot and they don't have waitresses as table so you need to order at the bar. I went with the Lone Wolf old fashioned. It was a pretty good drink, but a bit on the pricier side than is typical at 15 bucks. All the other drinks had fun names as well and would be good to go back and try more. Been to Lone Wolf several times for after work drinks and i really enjoy it. it's got all the goodness of a dive bar - dark, plenty of seats, conversational level of noise, plenty of booze - without all of the downside - no sour beer smell. Great ambiance for just chilling with some drinks. Been here with several large group and never had any of the service issues others have mentioned. I also like the large room with very limited windows - it ain't about the street scene even though it is on Randolph Street. Many folks have mentioned the outstanding beer selection and the Sgrippinos, but neither is quite my scene. However, no one has yet mentioned my absolute favorite - The Seven Sisters. This is a down and dirty bitter herbal affair. It's awesome. I'm a big Fernet fan and the treatment here in a cocktail with Amaro and Chartreusse gets you a cool, refreshing drink that is bitter and tasty. You want a rum and coke? This ain't your drink. If you are a Fernet fan you really ought to try this. I've not found many Fernet based cocktails that i like - normally I just drink it straight. Go for the Seven Sisters, stay for the ambiance (which is on the tolerable side of hipster). read more

Extremely good! I came with a party of four and we had such a wonderful time at this restaurant. The waitress was wonderful. We didn't have wait a long time before she came to take our orders. During my most recent visit, they even had Three Floyds Zombie Dust on tap, which gives them extra points in my book! While some of their drinks may be average-pricey, they also have $3 Schlitz tallboys....prefect for when you've had one too many heavy beers and just want something light to sip on. The are a friendly and welcoming bar with well, above average beers on tap. I recently was able to help celebrate their 5 year anniversary by ordering a Three Floyd's Barrel Aged Dark Lord.....you know....just for them. Food is good too. Not pretentious and super tasty. From the bouncer to the bartender....everyone welcomes you to partake in some fun. There is something for everyone to enjoy. I went his past Saturday around 3:30pm so my friends and I had zero wait and got a spacious, comfortable booth by the bar. I ordered the fried pickles (SO yummy but a bit hard to eat since the pickles were cut into long slices) and the veggie burger they're selling on behalf of Bad Hunter which is temporarily closed. It's the BEST VEGGIE BURGER I've ever had. I'm a meat eater but this burger is so flavorful I don't feel like I'm settling for something less enjoyable than a beef burger. We met up with friends here for a few drinks and had a good time. Décor: While it isn't a HUGE place, there is plenty of room. The bar itself is HUGE (three-sided!) and there are a bunch of booths lining the walls. If you want a seat you probably have to get there pretty early, or get lucky. The crowd was pretty sizable but we were not packed in like sardines - it seemed like the doorman was doing a good job of manning just how busy it was, so that was nice. I'm not sure how I would describe the interior design... perhaps a bit hipster. But it's a cool spot. Bathroom: I used it, but I don't remember it. Let's say that's a good thing - nothing horribly memorable! Staff: Our waitress was pretty quick with the drinks and surprisingly didn't screw anything up (despite not writing anything down). The bartenders were rather quick as well, I wasn't left waiting for service for more than a minute or two. Food/Drinks: One or two people got food, I cannot remember what, and they said it was very good. We, however, just had drinks. I started with an Old Fashion (tasty, and came with one HUGE ice cube! Nice!) and then just a bourbon on the rocks (no huge cube... when I asked for one they wanted to charge me $1 for it!). Other people just had beers and wine. Been in Lone wolf a few times for snacks and drinks and always have a good time. However, the last time we went the food was not that good. The cheese fries were not good, my buddy got the grilled cheese and he only ate half of it saying it wasn't that good. I snacked on a few fried pickles, I liked them but I love fried pickles. The drinks were good, the staff was great. We were there with a bunch of people, half of whom I did not know. What I like about this place is that it's kind of not close to a lot of bars so you don't get drunk who just stumble in. I had the old fashioned here once, it was really good but pricey. This looks like a fun place but my experience with the staff annoyed me enough that I'm not sure if I'd come back. I asked what kind of Scotch they had since I couldn't see it and then asked how much a dram of Ardbeg was - the bartender said $12-$13. About the norm for a dram at bars, so I ordered it. Since a friend was waiting outside, I grabbed our drinks while my husband paid. I was halfway done with my Scotch when my husband came out looking annoyed, saying the bartender was wrong and it was $19, said simply said sorry, and that was it. At this point I can't return it, and it was already paid for, but I feel like the decent thing to do is be like "Hey, it was $19, my bad, I'll charge you the $12/13 that I told you it was." read more

Came here with bunch of friends (10) and my BF for his birthday and even though the place was pretty much empty (it was around 8 PM on Monday), they weren't exactly attentive and looking into making some money. Both bartenders were looking at our group as intruders. They were reluctant to change the music and play anything else later after their playlist would be done, so we ended up leaving to explore other places nearby and I'm so glad we did !! Lone Wolf had more of a pub feel. You walked in and seated yourselves so I would recommend getting there somewhat early if you want a table as it got pretty crowded later on. The service was good. Our waitress checked in on us pretty often given how busy it was at the time. I got the cider, which wasn't great. Usually with ciders I expect it to be a little sweet. One of my friends got the white wine and for $9, I thought the portion was quite small. If I were to return, I'd probably stick with beer. We also tried their pies. I got the Mac Daddy, which is macaroni and cheese with bacon and onion. It was ok, not fantastic. The Mushroom and Kale pies that my friends got were better.
