Lone Star Water is a fabulous company. They took the time they needed to explain all that our congregation needed to consider in order to best meet our community's needs. And now the water tastes absolutely fabulous with the help of the Lone Star water system. Each of the employees that we dealt with was kind and thorough in their work. Knocking stars off due to poor and rude service in the years after installation, unfortunate since initial install was solid.

Had my system installed about two years ago. Michael was very good up front - the system was installed properly and is a decent grade unit. The initial cost was high but I was told it would be a "light commercial" sized system, which is what I wanted. After seeing the equipment installed and comparing it to others, they use very standard stuff - an electronic head unit that automatically backwashes the filters periodically. Overall the system does fine - I used a test kit to check the water after about a year and nothing showed up - so that says that it DOES remove all the nasty stuff. That said - I tested my tap water at a point BEFORE it goes thru the whole house filter and it didn't show anything harmful either. So how much is the system doing? Not sure really. We bought it mostly for peace of mind just IN CASE the municipal supply had issues, got tainted, etc. And we wanted the whole house water softener and so on. But the real slap in the face was the annual maintenance, which I paid $225 for. For this they came out and "sanitized" my systems (but didn't say what they did to do so - and was I drinking unsanitary water before??). They replaced a couple of filters on the undersink RO system. The large, expensive whole house system got "something tweaked" - but they didn't even bother to drop a $5 bag of salt into the softener. Total time spent at my house was MAYBE 10 minutes. For $225 this is a total ripoff. Furthermore - don't sign up for the $30 per month maintenance program. You'd think you get a visit once a month - but in reality they show up every 3 or 4 months, dump a ton of salt in your softener, and hope it lasts until they come around again. I can't figure out anything else you get for the $30 other than salt delivery. They "check your system" but that's nothing more than making sure the lights are on. Yes, the salt is heavy and all - but for what they are charging there are any number of much more competitive delivery methods available. Heck Amazon brings me tons of heavy stuff for FREE on Prime. I'm going to contact Michael and see why this visit was SO expensive as it doesn't seem like I got much for my money. If I'm wrong I will certainly post up any new findings. Update Jan 30, 2018: My wife and I started noticing that our water smelled funny, especially when showering (hot water, lots of mist - makes it easier to detect stuff). Given the high cost just to change the RO filters, I decided to learn a bit about what's inside my filters. So after watching a YouTube video or two, I was easily able to disassemble the unit. What I found inside looked fine - UNTIL I noticed the tubing inside the unit... Our house has 1 inch main supply pipe. When Michael came out - and as noted in my review above - I asked for a unit that was sized for the job, perhaps bigger. Michael said this was a "light commercial" unit. So imagine my surprise to find all the PVC pipe inside and around the unit was just 3/4 inch. Does anyone think it's OK to have your house supplied by 1 inch pipe and for a supposedly "whole house" filtration system costing nearly $4000 to step DOWN the size of the pipe to 3/4 inch? Mind you this isn't just cold water - these units are installed in line with the entire house. Had I caught this mistake earlier, I would have disputed the charge on my credit card. I have no problem with this had he been up front and said "Well, you're getting a smaller pipe than the entire rest of the house - but it should be fine based on my experience." At least that would have been honest and transparent. Do business with these folks at your own risk based on what I found today. Ask any plumber if downsizing a pipe is legit or meets code - I doubt you'll find that is the case. Now that I know what this system does and how simple it is, I'll probably just re-do it myself, using properly sized components. It was easy to by-pass the filters temporarily for servicing. That's the one part of the system that seems to be built properly! read more

Under sink installation leaked! This company installs no name systems without any documentation or product information. Does not give any documentation or part numbers for filters. Replies back with rude one word emails quoting an exorbitant price for simple filter replacements! I regretted doing business with this company! read more

Lone Star installed a complete water softener system a couple of years ago - it was very expensive. Recently one of their technicians botched a service call on the softener and it has not been working for several months. The owner is arrogant and rude, and responds rudely to emails. He came out to inspect the water softener again after the botched service call, and he tried to pin the blame on my husband. He was able to repair the system, and did not charge me again for the service call. We also asked him to repair a leaky RO system (which they did not install). After a few minutes, he said the system was too old and he didn't have time to mess with it. But that he could sell me a new system for $650 (which I suspect he would make time for). I asked him just to remove the leaking system, and he did that; however, when I used my sink after he left, the disposal was leaking! I informed him by email of this development, to which he replied - "Call a plumber." We contacted another company who can install the RO system for half the price, and who indicated that the technology has not changed that much, and that our system might even be salvageable. The owner know alot about all dynamics of water and best filtration sizes my home and office needed. Michael advised me and explained to me exactly what our family and employees needed. He is straight forward without the high pressure sales tactics. The prices compared to other companies I had come out are fair and the quality of the equiptment wow!!! Lone Star replaced my aging water softener. Called them up and the owner, Michael, answered. Made the appointment for 2 days later. They arrived on time and started the replacement. The unit was basic but high quality. All the work was done in less than 2 hours. I wanted it in use for at least 6 months before posting, and I can honestly say, "Well done." No glitches, quality work, and quality unit. If there ever is a problem, Michael will take care of it himself. I like getting that level of service from the owner who has a vested interested in his workmanship. Still thinking of replacing my reverse osmosis system. read more
