I used to rave about this little hole-in-the -wall fish & chips restaurant, but they've really gone downhill. The fish filets (which used to be fairly large and meaty) are now thin strips, with heavily slathered-on batter. The chips (which really are CHIPS, akin to steak fries) are OK, but nothing special. They clearly were frozen, then heated up, so lacking a nice, fresh potato taste. All in all, OK if you are going through fish & chips withdrawal, but I doubt I will be back. When I was a boy, about 20 or 30 or 40 years ago, I lived in a town where there was a seafood market where you could actually buy fresh fish from a case, and, if you wanted, they would fry it up right there. I've wanted to try this for a while and finally gave it a shot. It was a mix of good and not so good. The "good"...I really like how the fish and the fried zucchini appeared to be hand cut and battered in house which made it so much better than the pre-made stuff that comes in bags from a generic supplier. I also like the super thick steak fries which are my favorite type. The "not so good"...the inside of the restaurant wasn't very clean. In fact, it was a little bit dirty. I noticed random spray bottles and dirty rags on full display near the register. There was also a big recycle bin next to the tables that was completely full. I went when the restaurant opened which led me to believe the big can of recycling had been sitting inside the restaurant for several days. Not the best optics. Finally, the customer service was lacking. The young woman working the front of the house seemed very unhappy to be there and the whole encounter with her was a little awkward. Best Fish N' Chips in The Bay. The pieces of fish that are fried here are long and wide, a great deal for the price. They also have shrimp, scallops and and jumbo shrimp. The 3-pc fish and chips is sufficient enough for me as a meal, and we go out of our way in Oakland to come to this spot as a treat. We prefer to order at the location, wait for it to be ready in the car, then take it home. The area can be sketchy at night, so I would suggest going early evening or during the day on weekends. The location did not allow indoor seating for a while due to COVID, but have started to allow indoor dining, with smaller scale seating as an option. I find fish and chips to be an occasional treat, and regard it somewhat as a comfort food, preferring to have it at home. There are plenty of fish 'n chip spots throughout The Bay, but there is a quality of how they fry the fish, the size of the pieces, the tartar sauce, it's the best. Because of Lent me and my family have been trying new places we have never been here in the 20 years living nearby. I love seafood when done right and I heard good things about this place so we decided to order takeout. Inside is very small a couple tables and hard working staff behind the counter. It was awesome to see them frying the fish while waiting for the order. My family enjoyed the 8 pc fried shrimps and 1fish 4 jumbo shrimp combo. The combo meals are bigger than the meals keep that in mind. I liked the jumbo shrimps more as the fish was a little thin for me. For the quality you definitely get what you pay for. This review is long overdue. Hubby and I were craving fish n chips and were looking around to see what's close by. We saw London Fish 'N Chips open so we decided to stop by. Service was great, and we loved the wall art. We decided to order two different combos and a side of fried chicken. It was a little bit of a wait but wasn't too bad. We've passed by this place numerous times, always saying we had to stop by some time. Well, today was that day. This strip mall is in a L-shape. Long leg perpendicular to Hesperian; Short leg, in the back, parallelling Hesperian. London Fish 'N Chips is at the back of the long leg. There was plenty of parking in the lot. She went in while I stayed outside with the dog. All I wanted was fish and suggested that she got whatever else she wanted. We were also going make another stop down the street for some Chinese take-out. I like that London offers various combinations. Many places will charge you for the Chips even if you don't want them. Some will let you substitute Cole Slaw or perhaps a Fried Veg. We ordered: Family Pak - 4 - This was five pieces of fish (I don't know if she asked what kind), some lemon wedges, house-made tartar sauce and malt vinegar. Deep Fried Mushrooms - 4 - Medium sized mushrooms battered and deep fried. Not much to be said here. Deep Fried Zucchini - 3 - I'm weird and I know it. I always expect my zucchini to be served in wedges and these were served as thick coins. With both in the same boat, you couldn't always tell one from the other until you bit into it. Was it the best Fish ever? No. The best ever was what we had in London recently. But it was good and a reasonable value. Easy 3.5 stars + .5 added for the convenience of not having to throw away the Chips. I also liked that the Mushrooms were large enough to be considered meaty. The batter was slightly sweet and not too greasy. She said that the service was okay, though it took a tad longer than expected for the order to come out considering there were no other customers. I feel that the tartar sauce was also sweet and should have been thicker. There was no Ranch or Blue Cheese provided for the veg.
