Rundown quirky place that's that hole in the wall that actually has some pretty good grub at a decent price. It was no Scotty Simpsons but what is? I'll have to figure out what the nearest Eastside equivalent is now that London Fish and Chips has gone the way of the dodo. Not too surprising but I'm glad I had the chance to enjoy this bit of local character while it was around. Menu was limited but service was good. My favorite part of this place besides the fish was the wall of fame with the owners family posing with various famous musicians and athletes. Some had been up so long they were pretty sun bleached. Rob Halford, KK Downing, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townsend, Bono, Wayne Gretzky and many others were in all their glory. Steve Yzerman is so baby faced in his picture. A glorious young future hall of famer as opposed to a lousy general manager. My husband and I carried out from here a couple weeks ago. They were very busy since it was the start of Lent but they were very kind. The fish was fried to perfection. Was crunchy and flakey. They have a simple menu but I liked that. We will be back. read more

They make a great fish dinner! I don't usually like hush puppies but I love the hush puppies from here. My favorite it the shrimp!!!

Orders are taken immediately and the cooking begins. Cooked fresh so there is no fish getting dried out under lamps. The walls of this restaurant are covered in very interesting photos and the owner can give you some background on them if you ask. read more

The service isn't the greatest kind of rude actually and for a three piece, fish dinner, you get barely any french fries, especially since they upped the price by five dollars you think you would get more with a three piece dinner? It's the portion size for a kid I mean don't get me wrong. This place was a definite solid four stars. Was on this side of town for work and decided to stop in for a quick bite there was no one working but the owner. They offered fish and chips and pierogies along with some other battered items . The pierogies are of good quality from Hamtramck. But the definite winner here was the fish and chips The batter was extremely light with a good taste and the fish was not oily at all which is usually a problem I would 100% stop back in if I was on this side of town again. It's true this place has amazing fish and chips! Did a quick order take out for pick up. This place is small with 3-4 dinning tables. When we arrived the owner asked us to take a seat as our food would be done in 5. I could barely pull out the seat in front of me as it seem to be stuck to the floor. The table and floors were sticky :/ and it doesn't seem as though the A/C was on. I was starting to think, what did I get myself into lol. We finally got our food and left, and surprisingly the fish and chips were really good. The coleslaw had a small spicy kick to it and the fish wasn't over battery to greasy. Good size portions as well, 2 fish really does go along way per serving. 3 stars for then food, I just wish the place was more clean. Though the owner was nice I could tell he just wanted to get us in & out. Which was ok with me, because I wanted to get in & out too lol. Would I come back, sure. It's okay. This was my first time here, it was a bit of a wait, but the price was cheap, $10.49 for 2 good sized pieces of fish, a handful of chips (fries), and I got the side of onion rings and that was all $10.49 after tax. Not bad. The fish could've been more tender, but it was acceptable as it was. The parking is free but only maybe 10 spots. Best place for fish & chips in South Eastern Michigan! If you like fish & chips, this is the place for you! Small shop. It is more of a take out place than a place for you to sit & eat. I love the crunch from the fish & chips. It wasn't too oily. Hushpuppies & coleslaw were on point. Crab cakes were good but I felt deceived since I thought they were going to be bigger instead of bite size pieces. Next time, I will try the oysters & shrimp. Owner can have a sharp tongue, but seems like a lovable guy. He definitely does not like to waste time. My food was ready in 15 minutes from the time I placed my togo order. He should think about having a tipping option on his credit card machine. The business has been here since 2001. He must be doing something right. Overall, great food. Fast service. Reasonably price. After hearing good things, I was all set to finally try this place, enjoy it, and post a positive review on here with photos. I went to try it for lunch on an early Saturday afternoon. Since the Internet stated they open at 11:30 on Saturday, I made sure to plan my visit after that time. I drove out of my way to come here and when I arrived (well after 11:30) the lights were off and the place was closed. There was absolutely no worker in sight. The hours hadn't changed, either, because the hours on the door also stated 11:30. I wasted my time and gasoline on nothing. This is very rude and inconsiderate to customers. If you state you will be open at a certain time, make sure you are open at this time. I most likely will not ever be inclined to return to try it. Ah, well. You can't win them all. read more

Food was good, cleanliness of the store was not good. The person behind the counter did not seem to want any customers and the floor had not been swept in some time. There were no clean tables, even though we were the only ones in the place and the condiment bottles were sticky. The bathroom walls were dirty. Stopped in for the first time, got the 2pc cod meal, fish was good and crispy but fries and hush puppies were pretty burnt. Owner seemed alittle grumpy, not very friendly. No one else stopped in while we ate inside. Would get the fish again but thats it. Tarter sauce came in a packet, didnt get coleslaw or a knife. I too have been to this place several times and have yet to find it open. I know they still advertise in those monthly magazines and they advertise they open at 11am, and this is also posted on their front door. I've been told this place is like the former Milroy's Fish & Chips Restaurant in Eastpointe, which has been closed many years. I have been there three times over the last several months and still have yet to find them open. All three times, arriving between 12noon and 2pm ... no cars in parking lot, door locked ... but they still advertise in the monthly coupon magazines you receive in the mail. read more

By far the BEST Fish and Chips in Southeastern Michigan (and maybe farther). The guy is not grumpy, just quiet and shy. I don't know about the lunch problems because we only ever eat dinner, but I do believe that the "guy" is the only employee. I've seen some people in there during the Lenten Season when any fish place would be busier but usually it is just him, so not surprised he occasionally isn't around at lunch. Regardless, it is definitely worth going. I like to add a half dozen of the shrimp to my 3 piece meal. My one daughter that doesn't like fish, loves the chicken strips. I do not understand this place?? I never see cars there or people eating there or even inside at all, and I drive by several times a day (Im a drivers ed instructor and am on the road ALL of the time). The hours posted on the door say it opens at 11am (IIRC), and Ive been there 3x now at 11:45-noon and the place isnt opened. I would LOVE to try it out. A few of my students rave about it. However, Im kind of wondering if its a front to 'another' kind of business operation! I hope Im wrong. Fish and chips may seem like something you can't mess up, but when you have to eat bad fish, you know it. Stanky, gamey, greasy, leaden in your gut ... London Fish & Chips is precisely none of that. If there is a better place to get straight (as in non-beer battered) fish in the Shores/Roseville/Harrison Township area, I haven't found it. The fish is clean and not greasy, meaty and the portions are outstanding. The chips are steak fries, which I adore (and, if you like malt vinegar, much better for soaking up the vinegar than shoestring). Hush puppies are crunchy balls of flavor explosions, like a deep fried seasoned cornmeal ball, but better. A three piece meal will fill you up without making you feel like you have a ball of grease in your gut. And if you're feeding a group of 3 or 4, the School Of Fish deal can't be beat. If that doesn't convince you, I've taken English people there, and they said it tasted like they were home again. If that isn't a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is. read more

Tried this place for the first time last night and was totally blown away by the quality of the fish and shrimp. They were freshly made lightly breaded and fried to perfection. They were minimally greasy. The fries were of the steak fry type and were well cooked. The hush puppies were flavorful nuggets with lots of great texture. My only negative quibbling comments would be that the cole slaw was uninteresting and the tarter and cocktail sauce were in mass produced packets that left something to be desired. read more

Tonight was my first time coming to this restaurant and I ordered the two piece fish and chips as a carryout. Disappointed by the packets of tarter sauce I was given, thought that was kinda cheap and weird. I was expecting a homemade tarter sauce since this place was so authentic. I was surprised by the big pieces of fish I got but as I started eating it I noticed it was mushy and the batter was not cooked all the way. Each piece of fish had a coating of raw batter inside :( I had to peel the batter off inorder to eat the fish. For starters... any restaurant who sells primarily fish should have some form of homemade tartar sauce, not packets of Kraft (highly disappointed). The fish and shrimp were both rubbery with not much taste. Hush puppies were dry. Yes this was a carry out order but I was there waiting in lobby and served it within 10mins of pickup. My wife and I recently visited the London Fish and Chips in Clinton Twp. Our local paper had an ad offering a couple dollars off dinner. Also the ad said "Remember Milroy's & Suzy Q? We Continue the Tradition". We have fond memories of both of those places. That's where the similarity ends. This place is in a little strip mall on Harper. When you walk in you can tell it is mostly carryout. There are some tables in the front and down one side. Not what we expected. But we decided to eat in. The fish, fries and coleslaw were served in carryout containers. The fish looked really nice. But that's where the Milroy's/Suzy Q similarity ended. The fish was bland, with no taste what so ever. Sitting down for dinner with plastic utensils, not what we expected. It was not at all that way at Milroy's/Suzy Q. The larger table in the front and 2 side tables still had stuff left over from previous people. The owner was the only other person on the premise besides us. The owner finally picked up those items and threw them away. But didn't bother wiping the tables. The floor was filthy. Hadn't seen a mop in months. Both the mens and ladies room doors were propped open. Both doors were filthy and there stands the owner chit-chatting with a buddy of his.
