You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu from this place. Everything is very authentic Italian and the atmosphere is so cozy. It's a small place so make sure you make a reservation where you may be turned away. They also have a very nice Carryout Window. Be sure to try their pizza. It's delicious.

Maybe one of the best dinners we've had in a long time. The boneless pork chops were done Sicilian style with amogue. Yum! The service was top notch. The restaurant isn't that big so we had to make reservations. For a nice night out, I can't recommend Luigi's enough!

Classic old school Italian restaurant nicely decorated and a nice bar. Our server was friendly and attentive. We ordered Prime rib, classic linguine, and chicken Marsala along with oysters Rockefeller for an appetizer. All were delicious as were the Hungarian mushroom soup and salad. This restaurant is always busy so make reservations or arrive late.

Solid 4, possible 4.5 stars. Unpretentious, burnished Italian restaurant serving quality food for decades, a reliable stand-by. It looks a little clunky from the outside, parking remains 20th century. Inside it's dark, a little tight with steps and slopes built to accomodate various additions over the years. All the usual Italian accoutrements abound including checkered red and white tableclothes. One could envision the spaghetti scene from Disney's "Lady and the Tramp" reenacted here. PROS: Great service. Competent waitstaff. Old-school bread basket full of various breadsticks, crunchy and soft. Great chowder with even better house salad with even better bleu cheese dressing. Delicious arancini, two the size of raquetballs with delicious red sauce and a fantastic cheese glob in the middle. Stick-to-your-ribs cheese ravioli smothered in extra cheese and red sauce. Pan-fried crispy-edged pollo formaggio covered with cream sauce of the Gods resting on a bed of heavenly angel hair pasta. Old fashioned spumoni slices with liquor soaked cherries in the red part and toasted almond bits in the chocolate part. Salute! CONS: A little disappointed in the carry-out pizza. Got the large gourmet veggie. I wanted to say "wow" when first opening the box, however it was more like "meh". Certain toppings were quite small for that price point (see pics), like fragments of broccoli and cauliflower. I expected more from a $22 pizza. Still the taste was awesome, and it was wolfed-down by hangry East-siders. SUMMARY: Solid choice for an old-school East-side Italian meal. Go online and make a reservation, it can fill up here.

I love Luigi's. I ordered the fried artichokes and the pasta casino. Both of excellent. My dad ordered steak tips. He really liked them. Plenty of food so I took it home and had another meal. Plus the bread is good!

Not near as good as it used to be. Lamb chops very dry overcooked last visit. Overpriced for what you get.

Everything tasted super fresh and the menu leans more "snacky" in the best possible way -- perfect little plates that are clearly meant to pair with wine. We ordered a few things for the table and it felt like the kind of place where you just keep ordering one more thing because everything sounds good. Nothing heavy, just really well done bites that let the wine shine. Speaking of wine, the selection is awesome. It's not the usual predictable restaurant list. There are some really interesting bottles and styles on there, which makes it fun if you actually enjoy trying different wines instead of just defaulting to the same thing every time. Service was great too. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and welcoming, and you can tell the owners are really hands-on and working hard to make the place special. That always makes a difference. And the ambiance... chef's kiss. Moody lighting, cozy, stylish but not pretentious. Just good vibes all around. It's the kind of spot you want to linger at with friends and a second bottle of wine. Already planning my next visit :)

We loved the entertainer, Kenny Gee, who was charming and fun...but not overly loud. The restaurant has a classy but unpretentious atmosphere with wonderful views of the water. We started with the Brie appetizer and calamari, and both were excellent. I had the pecan chicken. I'd definitely recommend it (as long as you don't mind a sweet sauce). My son had the crab cake, and my husband had the 8 oz filet with added bleu cheese butter. Both the guys really enjoyed their dinner (although my son was stuffed from eating too much of the good bread and butter)! We did not save room for dessert, unfortunately. It was a lovely experience and the food was for the most part very delicious. Service was friendly and good but a tad on the slow side (not our server's fault, they seemed pretty busy and I think she may have been the only waitress working, so she was absolutely juggling a ton). They were out of the "pretty potatoes" which was disappointing because they sounded super delicious. The restaurant is a little dark and when very busy can get a little loud. The three women at the table next to us were having a very loud conversation (of which I picked up every word) and I could barely hear my fiancé, which I didn't love, so the acoustics are a bit odd. That being said, the decor and vibe is very home-y and everyone that works there was very pleasant and lovely, from the hostess to the man that refilled our waters. We got the charcuterie plate (selected two cheeses and two meats; comes accompanied by fig jam, mustard, sardinian crackers, and cornichons), the caesar salad, the short rib, the arctic char, and the olive oil cake for dessert. All of the food was really exceptional and delicious except I found the short rib to be a tad dry. We each ordered a cocktail, I got a spritzer and my fiancé got a seasonal Pimm's cup-type cocktail that used house-made cranberry syrup. They can accommodate gluten free diets easily which is also a plus. Overall, we will absolutely be coming back!I want to try that Wagyu Pastrami Reuben!

There's little going on in this area, with zero shops or other restaurants nearby. Park on the side street, it's fine. We went there for a special occasion. Make that reservation, you'll need it. Empty tables don't exist for more than a few minutes, and they are packed in. Servers are laid back, knowledgeable, and friendly. Not in the "corporate wants me to smile", but genuine. I think the employees like working here! The food was amazing. If you want to pair the wine, ask for a suggestion. I'm so glad we did, both the red and the white wines we had complemented the food perfectly. The menu changes regularly, so what we ordered likely won't be available next week. Except the bread - I rarely eat any bread, but I'm glad I did this evening. Tables are small, but so are the plates. Share your food, there's just too many good things to try. And yes, even dessert was amazing. Dress up or not, doesn't matter. Anything goes. A sport coat is fine, but so are sweaters and sneakers. Entrance is a really plain door on the side, not at all where we expected it to be - and with very little indication of where it was. Top twenty of meals I've ever had, and probably in the top five I've ever had in Detroit.
