The good: decor, staff friendliness, menu size. Issues: construction- not their fault. May be affecting business. Salad- switching to chopped, lettuce free salad. Again, being cautious? Slow service- we can't see the kitchen, but for a small menu the service was too slow leading us to question organization and other things. Drinks- the prices are astronomical. Two gin and tonics were $38. That's outrageous! Food prep- In concept good. But it's not carried out well. Stuffed chicken should be sliced thinner or flattened then rolled. No problems with fried selections. Staff- need more thorough training before tending bar or serving tables. It's a speakeasy, so an inexperienced bartender should not be left on their own. If you do it well at justified prices, regardless of road construction, people will come. This establishment could use professional consultation. I feel like this is one of the many spots throughout the metro area that has spent all its investment on making the aesthetics absolutely lovely, which it is and which is a huge part of the experience, of course, but like many of the restaurants lately the service and quality of menu items is less than expected. Don't get me wrong, I totally get that stress that many restaurants are under in getting quality employees, let alone enough employees to run a shift and understanding that I am very forgiving about maybe a little extra time it takes to take your order or get your food out. That wasn't the issue here. No one took an order until we asked 3 times, which even in the most forgiving situations is unacceptable. I'm trying to give you money yo and it was early. Food wise, when you read the menu it all sounds spectacular, but my friends ordered a few items and they both said that it was quite flavorless and honestly that's how I felt about my drink. Switched to beer after. Speakeasy implies a level of expertise in cocktails not sugary run of the mill. Like I said in my opening salvo, this is a beautiful location. I would love to think that this a great spot to rent out of an event or party but I will be honest, I'm not sure what kind of experience you will be getting. We came here for Father's Day since we had a great experience last year. There were only 4 tables seated and the service and kitchen were slow. Husband asked what beers were on tap and there was only one, thankfully one he liked. We tried to order a charcuterie board and they were out. We ordered calamari and garlic dough knots for an appetizer and the dough knots were pretty good! When we ordered the meals they all came out staggered and the one year olds came out many minutes after the first meals and it was the first one ordered. The kids meal (grilled chicken and mashed potatoes) was suppose to come with applesauce and we had to ask for it again and they said they were out so he got a yogurt instead (he didn't know the difference, but I could see how this could upset a kid). The chicken was good but the mashed potatoes were very bland even for a kids meal. I ordered a beyond burger with cheese and it came with no cheese (they took it back and brought it back with cheese). We had to ask several times for ketchup and mustard for the burgers. My burger was very dry and needed some kind of sauce or mayo. The truffle fries are an $8 add on, which is very pricey to me. They were good but not worth $8 more. Had a very unfortunate experience tonight at this restaurant. Our waitress, Julia was fantastic, but so many things outside her control went very wrong. Tried to address it with the owner & politely share the issues with her, but she was completely uncooperative, argumentative and defensive. Asked for an adjustment to our bill, she yanked it out of my hand and stormed away...Wait, it got worse... she called the police on us. They arrived, we discussed the incident, we paid our bill and then she had had the audacity to ask the police to trespass us! We'll NEVER be back! read more

My Apple pie espresso martini tasted like apple pie almond creamer no hint of espresso or alcohol. I'm not sure what alcohol they use but my old-fashioned tasted watered down. Arrived, only 2 other guests in the entire place.... guess that was a bad sign. We asked to sit outside. While the games and setup are cool, it was kind of a mess, toppled over tress/plants, pool balls and bean bags for corn hole MIA and took over 30 mins for someone to bring them out....again 4 people in the whole place. Ordered drinks and an app, drinks took FOREVER. Again, no one at the bar! Server comes back and informs us can't make the app gluten free despite it being labeled as GF on the menu. Order meals, once again took.over 45 mins to get our food. My fish was over cooked, collard greens bland and under cooked and mashed potatoes were ice cold. I made a reservation for 10 people. I got there a little early to make sure everything was ok. People kind of trickled in. Eight of us ordered. Person 9 and 10 came a little later. My dinner, and only mine took 45 minutes. Person 9 and 10 ,who arrived 30 minutes after me, got their food before me. I asked for the manager. I was told there is no manager. I was also told that they would not comp my meal. I sent it back since members of my group were already leaving. This business has been open a few years. This place is trash. We used to be regulars here, but it's way too inconsistent, and there is way too much drama with the owner. Owner/manager is usually bitching at someone at the end of the bar. I've heard way too much unenjoyable drama, from employees, staff and the owner to be reason enough to never come back, but worse than that, the drinks are mediocre, and the food sucks. Their old fashioneds are meh, and inconsistent. The bartenders are spotty at best. Nick is pretty good, but he's fed up with ownership too. He's the only person there that can make a proper Spanish coffee. They're incapable of getting even the most basic, classic cocktails right on a consistent basis, and a lot of their ingredients are store bought bullshit. We had a Spanish coffee served to us cold when Nick wasn't working... not like, sat around too long, luke warm... ice cold, and the waitress tried to say "yea, that's how we generally serve them, do you want us to heat it up?"... uh, no... I want you to make it properly... We were told that if we want a properly garnished Spanish coffee, we should bring our own cinnamon and sugar, because they're regularly out. We were served a chocolate strawberry tart, that was obviously cut with a knife that had previously cut onions. It was gross. When we brought it to the owner/manager's attention they just said "really? we're sorry..." No comp, no replacement... Their dinner menu is garbage. The last chicken dish I ordered (Speakeasy Chicken) had my stomach in knots, likely due to cross contamination. They regularly overcook their steaks. Calamari is small, overly breaded garbage. There isn't anything on the food menu worth ordering. I can't believe the place is still in business. read more

I didn't have high expectations for Harrison's Speakeasy, but I was happily proven wrong. The restaurant itself is well decorated, as the "speakeasy" theme is prevalent. I don't want to spoil what makes the bathrooms unique, but it's definitely something to see. The outdoor area features a large chess set and corn hole. Upon walking in, we were barely greeted by the hostess. She didn't seem like she wanted to be there. On the flip side, our server, Cassandra, was attentive and professional. The lavender martini was my favorite of the 3 drinks I tasted. The metro parkway was well made. The bathtub gin had a strong ginger taste, but went down nonetheless... and yes, you get to keep the rubber duck. As for the food, everything I tasted was somewhere between above average and amazing. The pretzel bites and pineapple baked brie cheese were both pretty good. The blackberry, basil, and ricotta pizza was to die for. It was honestly one of the best pizzas I've had locally. Both the Harrison burger and mac & cheese chicken sandwich are worth ordering. I did prefer the burger over the chicken sandwich. The orecchiette pasta's presentation and flavor were equally impressive. The fish and chips were good, and didn't have that typical frozen look to them. However, the portion size was a little disappointing. Of the 3 desserts I tasted, the chocolate lava cake was my favorite. Both the cheese cake and the pistachio & ricotta cake were good, as well. Came here to try something new. I ordered a very strong tequila cocktail. Be forewarned, they do 2oz pours. The pretzel bites were good, not a fan of the cheese dip. I did enjoy the fish and chips. Overall, the food was decent. The reason for the 3/5 stars was the live music, and the hostess and server were on their phones a lot and seemed like they were in a bad mood. We have been to this restaurant many times and have had good food and service, last night was not the case. I ordered a glass of wine and didn't get it for nearly 45 minutes, while I noticed a larger party that came in after us got their drinks way before us. The dinner orders came out wrong and then we were told if she put them on the table we would have to pay for them. My husbands dinner came out 20 min after the rest of our parties food. After we finished we asked to talk to the owner and express our disappointment as soon as she approached our table she was very defensive and argumentative. My husband said he felt we shouldn't have to pay for such poor service and she grabbed our billed and called the police. We were going to pay and now had to wait for the police to arrive. The owner said we could never come back or she will call the police for trespassing on us. Honesty I don't want to ever go back. If I could give her a 0 I would. Restaurants have an contractual obligation to inform customers when menu items are alacarte. When we received the bill we learned the bill was increased $23. This included taxes. Alacarte notice was never posted, printed or verbalized. And that's on EVERYTHING. Food was ok. Except coffee size was 2-4oz. Yes, very tiny cups. read more

This place has such a cool, cozy atmosphere! There are tables, booths, & bar seating but there are also couches with coffee tables for seating. They do have an outdoor area that looks really fun with a life size chess board, but the few times we've been in have been cold or rainy so we usually hangout by the fireplace. Last time, we had their Mac n cheese which was really good but could have use something added like bacon or breadcrumbs for some more texture & flavor. Overall it was still pretty good! The campfire old fashion-ish is super tasty & looks cute with the toasted marshmallow garnish. We were able to get right in and sit at the bar. Great service and friendly staff. Although it is a little cramped as you walk in, it really opens up as you go into the restaurant. There were a lot of people but it didn't feel overcrowded. The menu had a lot of options and I went with a burger. The burger was ordered medium and cooked to perfection. We loved our valentines dinner here. A little issue with the service but our waitress was new. We weren't in a hurry so it wasn't a big deal, but she was so kind even offered to pay for our meal but we turned her down and gave her a big tip to let her know we believe in her. This is the only restaurant review I've ever done that starts with a recommendation to visit the bathroom. This is not a commentary on the food, which I liked. But, the food can wait. Head to the bathroom, and you will see portraits of Al Capone, and a stylish lady of the same era. Where's the door? You'll figure it out, but it's pretty cool. If your significant other gets mad at you for tricking them, don't blame me. And now, we return you to your regularly scheduled review. This is actually a review of two separate visits, since we loved it so much we came back. This location was previously the home of a neighborhood restaurant, The Pier. The cramped entryway hasn't changed, so it was a pleasant surprise when I saw the spacious interior. I'm glad they didn't go with a full on nautical theme, which I was expecting after seeing the diving suit outside. Instead, restraint was shown in the decor. It took me a while to realize that the ceiling lights were diving helmets. But who cares how cool a building is if the food doesn't deliver? Fortunately, it does. There are a variety of mixed drinks, all for $10. A real stand out is the bathtub gin, which is served in a mini bathtub with a little rubber ducky. Not only is it cute, but the packs a wallop. There's also the massively powerful Final Absolution ale, brewed by Dragonmead brewery in Warren. Very unusual to see this in any restaurant. The pretzel bites are the first clue that you are getting something you wouldn't normally get. They aren't exactly uniform size, which is a testament to the fact that they are all not only handmade, but made to order. The pretzels themselves are tasty, and the cheese dip that comes with it is an appropriate compliment, though I'm a yellow mustard kind of guy when it comes to pretzels. The service was mostly solid, except that my wife wanted dressing on the side instead of on her Caesar salad. She had to wait a few minutes while they remade the salad. The dressing has a nice tang to it. There was also a good amount of high quality chicken breast with crisp greens. It's a bit small to serve as a complete meal, but it works with other items. On our second trip, they had a creamy lamb florentine soup, which was light on the spinach, but heavy on the lamb. It's hearty and rich, with a massive amount of ground lamb, and could be a meal unto itself. Get it to share if it appears on the rotating featured items menu. We also got hush puppies. They're larger than you might expect, about pool ball sized, but they're perfectly cooked. The "voodoo sauce" that came with it isn't spicy at all, but it's tasty. I got the shrimp poboy on our first visit. Unlike just about everywhere outside of New Orleans, Harrison's gives you a generous portion of fried shrimp. The remoulade is the same as the "voodoo sauce", and it works. This is a damn good sandwich. We ordered sliders and buttered noodles from the kids menu to take home. The sliders have a wonderful beef flavor (sorry, kids, but we had to try it), and you get two of them with fries for $7. The butter noodles are excellent, also for the same price. if you have small kids, this is a great way to keep them happy without spending a lot of money. The chicken pot pie is one of the items that I'm sure people will complain about because of the price. For $22, you get a small skillet with the best chicken pot pie you've ever had. It's deconstructed, with a tasty biscuit on top of a sort of stew. But, it's not quite enough for a meal. For those complaining about the price of the dishes, I hear you. Some things, like the shrimp poboy, feel like a bargain. The mixed drinks seem just right, and some of the entrees feel a bit pricey. But, you're paying for quality and presentation here. Don't compare this to Benvenuto, the family restaurant across the street. Compare it to trendy Detroit eateries, like Lumen. Save yourself a trip downtown and go here instead. read more

Atmosphere: boat life, from swimsuits to polo's with boat shoes and flip flops (went during dinner/summer) Service: the server was great, the kitchen making the totally wrong order, taking 50 minutes from order to table and then forgetting the order again after saying something, it's astonishing this place has customers. The server made it a bit awkward by saying,' I'll pay for the wrong meal' Quality: food came out cold, wrong dish, forgot sides Drinks: they were out of things to prepare some of the selected items; ordered the lavender, best drink. Never seen a manager, they still charged for wrong items. I won't be back, it's a rotating menu with a majority of the items not available and the ones that you order, you may get something totally different then charged for it. We made dinner reservations for 4 at 0630 on a Friday. After being seated we were not greeted by staff, after twenty minutes we flagged down a waitress. She apologized and immediately took our drink order and said she would locate our waiter. She came back with our drinks and said she would serve us. Turns out she was a great waitress. Had a 6pm reservation. We arrived about 5 minutes early. Place wasn't very busy for a Saturday night. We waited about 15 minutes after we sat down for our waiter to come over. The tables without reservations that had arrived after us had their drink and food orders taken before us. For the drinks- they were really good. We ordered a bourbon cocktail and I had the lavender martini. Generous pours. We put in our appetizer orders first as we were still debating on entrees. We ordered the cheddar jalapeño hush puppies and the tuna tartare. The hush puppies came out first- the presentation was beautiful but they were bland. No sign of cheddar or jalapeño anywhere. We had to flag our waiter down for additional sauce (which we were charged for). Now for the tuna tartare- that was a health risk. It arrived 10-15 minutes after the hush puppies. It was extremely low quality tuna (definitely frozen). The only taste on the tuna tartare was "fishiness". It was served alongside 4 cold, pieces of grilled pita. First of all, I'm angry that a place like this is in Harrison twp instead of Chesterfield. Second, because of that darn selfridge Air Force base, it took me fifteen minutes to get there when it could potentially be about five if I had a straight shot. Now that I got my true pain points out of the way, let's move on to the real story. The place is beautiful; I read a lot of complaints about "dim lighting" and it makes no sense to me. It's so inviting and so clean and it's a place that allows you to have a quiet conversation. I had the campfire old fashion-ish and the applewood smoked old fashion-ish. They were delightful. My buddy got the cranberry margarita and that was delicious as well. The food was as follows; calamari, truffle fries, apple & Brie stuffed chicken and filet. I must say the absolute best part was the calamari. I know for sure any future visit will definitely include that. The voodoo aioli is insane, I took some of those truffle fries and dipped it in the sauce and it was magical. The only reason for four stars instead of five is that apple and Brie chicken. I barely got any apple and the Brie was almost nonexistent. I usually stay away from chicken dishes when I'm out to dinner but I love a good Brie and it just was not there. The chicken was still good so don't shy away from getting it if you want chicken. But the richness and creaminess of Brie wasn't present and that was the only disappointment. But we are coming back in the summer time to throw some cornhole bags for sure!
