I have been here THREE times and i never make it to post my food because I gobble it up! This place is spectacular! It is the number one choice for Peruvian food in Glendale! The area has parking in the front and in the back. It's on Brand Ave. which can be a busy street! Inside: is just beautifully decorated with Peruvian decor. They have music playing inside and they have a whole wine bar. The food: is always fantastic. I have had their tallarines verdes, limo saltado, yuca, everything is delicious! And the plates are huge! Wandered into this small joint one afternoon out of curiosity and so glad we did. After surfing the menu and hearing about the lunch specials, the arroz con mariscos caught my eye. The menu described it as Peruvian paella so I went all in. Be forewarned that if you are on a lunch break, order a saltado dish cuz the paella takes quite a bit longer to prepare. Worth the wait? Oh yah. Given my dialysis diet, I was able to ask them not to make it salty and they were happy to oblige. The servings are rather generous so expect to pack some home. Nice and cozy place with live music. We were there for my birthday dinner and already checked out what to order way before we got there. As I am a cheese lover, I like anything that has a creamy cheese sauce to it. What we ordered were actually quite light - not a heavy cream sauce. We started with the Yucca Frita A La Huancaina, which is fried yucca with Hauanicaina sauce. I love the sauce - which is a spicy cheese sauce. My friend ordered one of the famous Peruvian dish - Lomo Saltado - kind of like a Beef stir-fried dish on rice and French fries. The beef is quite tasty. I prefer mine as it has the cheese on it again. I ordered Aji de Gallina - shredded chicken in a yellow creamy sauce. I loved it. The rice is a bit too hard for me. Maybe that's how they liked it cooked. For me I have to chew hard to make sure I don't get any indigestion. Forgot to mention about the warm bread sticks that came with 2 types of sauce for dipping - one green and one yellow. They were great starters. I had the Inca Soda which is like the cream soda I had always liked to order when I was young. My friend had the sangria. Our server is very nice. Sorry that I forgot his name. Maybe Jay? He even taught us how to pronounce the dishes we have ordered. Overall I like the place. A bit dark for us to take our food pics. Really good Peruvian find in Los Angeles. It's a little bit on the pricier side but the food is great. For appetizers we just stuck to the yucca frita la huancaina. My family loved the sauce because of how creamy it was, complimenting the yucca. I ordered the lomo saltado and the presentation is excellent. The portion size is very big and the flavor was great. The beef was nicely cooked, the papas fritas and the sauce were all cooked very well. Ordered food last week for Fathers Day. It was last minute 7:30pm decision. Called and ordered lomo saltado, calamar frita, bisteck a lo pobre, chaufa de mariscos. The only thing tasty was the lomo. It was tender and full of flavor. My only gripe about the dish was I barely got any beef and mostly fries. Calamar frita & bisteck lacked flavor. And the chaufa tasted like Chinese fried rice. We didn't even get bread. For $85 I expected more. Guess they're not so generous on take out orders. I will just return to Mamita. Their food is so much better. read more

Amazing peruvian food! Service was excellent as Mauricio and everyone made sure we always had water and were on top of everything. The atmosphere is so nice with service being exceptional! The food was so tasteful with such amazing flavors! We always eat at peruvian restaurants and this one is worth every penny! They serve you some bread with ahi while you wait for appetizers and your food! Everything is cooked to perfection and you get to enjoy the experience while waiting for your meal. The portions are very big and presentation is beautiful. You will definitely have leftovers! Don't forget to drink my favorite which is always so fresh, maracuya! We enjoyed ourselves here and will be coming back as they ran out of the alfarores, which they looked delicious in the picture so it will be a must to come get some! I've had about 6 different dishes so far and each one has been very flavorful and had that authentic Peruvian taste. The prices are really great and the service is wonderful. Their busiest time seems to be Friday at lunch, so watch out for lines during those peak hrs. Right now I'm enjoying a healthy ceviche dish ($10-11). Try the mixed seafood soup. Omg so good. If I could give it ZERO stars I WOULD! I have been going to this restaurant for years, and never did I have an issue with the quality of food or service. I'm not sure if it's due to covid or obvious staff changes but the service has completely diminished. In the past 4 months I've given them the benefit of the doubt but they obviously do not care about their customers anymore. My usual order consisted minimally of Lomo Saltado, Seco de res, and ceviche. TWICE! I've had food poisoning!! Every time I ordered take out due to covid my order was incomplete or items were missing, like the extra order of bread I payed for, or aji, the spicy sauce they now double charge for. I called and complained and both the lady on the phone and man who claims he's the owner speak disrespectfully and have said, bring back the food (which are wayyyy smaller portions than before) and I'll refund you the money. The food was cold, and tasted different, flavor is definitely missing! Finally the straw the broke the camels back!!! My husband went to pick up our food, he payed and they wouldn't give him the copy of his receipt, again the lady in the front, who I assume is new, and says she too is the owner refused to provide the copy of the receipt and told my husband not to worry it's just 75.00!!! We felt it was odd. Not sure what changed but I am sad to no longer give them my business, they certainly have gone from a 5 to a Zero in food quality and trashy service and it's a shame!!! One of the things I find most problematic about Yelp is reading reviews from people who clearly have NO UNDERSTANDING of the cuisine or underlying culture represented in a given restaurant. They consistently harp on stupid shit (my water took long to refill) and they generally order poorly. A dumb (terrible) review of this restaurant from Alicia L (below, Elite Yelper natch) was the trigger for coming to this PERUVIAN GEM to try it out. I figured, if a person who: 1. Ordered that badly (really? the vegetarian pasta? the Fish & Chips?) 2. Wanted Tartar Sauce (seriously girl? give it a rest). ...hated the place, I'd probably love it. So I managed to snag a large table last night and drove up to Glendale to check it out. Service: Excellent - warm and very friendly Atmosphere: boisterous Food: if you know something about Peruvian food (especially homestyle places like this and Mario's) you will be VERY VERY happy here. They even had chaufa on the secret menu. We ordered a ton to give it a try. One of the benefits of getting a bigger group together. Papas/Yuca con Huancaina - super tasty Ceviches (both creamy and non creamy) - tasty and done in a high end way. They were definitely adjusted for American palates however (less acidity and less spice than normal), but we were with low-spice friends so that's that. Choclo - Loved the addition of the cheese. Have never had it that way before and it's great. Roast Pork - Amazing. Everyone's favorite item. Chaufa - So so so good. The regular arroz also looked tasty. Saltados - Tasty, with good fries in the pile though the meat was a bit lower quality than I would have liked. Comparing Lola's against all Peruvian spots (here and in Peru itself), I think it's a sold 4* restaurant. The pork dish I had here was one of the most memorable of 2018. The skin was served separate (but on top) of the succulent, flame-licked portion of pork. Why was it separated? Because the preparation made this chicharron-like, glassy, wonderfully crunchy and delicious piece of skin the perfect accompaniment for each bite of the pork. It was literally insanely good. Served with rice and a salad (or fries), it was a show-stealer for everybody at the table. The wines are great, the beer is cold (and Peruvian, shall you desire Cosqueña) and the service is fantastic. The chicken out of the wood oven is also delicious but seriously go for that pork. My friend and I were out and about on Good Friday. We happened to find parking right in front of this place. I was so pleased to see their written menu offerings of Fish! (Catholics do not eat meat - that includes chicken!!!- on Lenten Fridays and especially on this Good Friday!) The restaurant is pretty cozy and still spacious enough. There was a table celebrating a birthday, several couples and this really handsome gentleman speaking with a lovely accent, not Spanish, but maybe Portuguese. He made lunch so worth it :) Open kitchen concept, so smells were delicious! Got the Seafood Ceviche - nice chunks of shrimp, octopus, fish infused with lime and just a hint of spice, served with large kernels of crunchy corn and thinly shaved pickled onions. So refreshing! The Jalea Mariscos is a medley of crunchy calamari, shrimp, clams, mussels and breaded fish with fried Yucca. Delicious, light breading was just the right amount to keep food crunchy and was not greasy. Complementary warm, soft breadsticks served with that yellow and green sauce- delicious! Wow everything was great here.... I loved their Seafood Paella because it was creamy and really really tasty.... Their beef Saltado was good also. The Bread was buttered right, with green and white sauce on the side. It was also my little buddies Birthday and they hooked him up with Chocolate cake which so creamy good.... The ambiance was nice and intimate with authentic music playing the background. ... Sandra our waitress was Excellent!!!! And are food came really fast surprisingly since we got in 30 minutes before closing and the food seemed hard to cook and prepare... Decided to try this place out for dinner tonight per a recommendation by my bf's coworker. I was a little bummed out that it is located right in the heart of chaotic Brand and parking was a bit of a debacle (as it always is on Brand)...but we managed. The place is pretty small and very dimly lit. Walking up I wasn't even sure if they were open or not! But once inside, it had a very intimate feel. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive as well. As far as the food goes, the portion sizes are HUGE! We easily could have just shared one entree and called it a night but alas, now we have left overs for tomorrow... (and really, who am I kidding? Who doesn't want leftovers?) ANYWAY, for an appetizer we had yucca a la huancaina which was really good! I am a big fan of yucca to begin with and this dish felt like i was eating glorified cheese fries. Totally worth the order. For our actual entree, my bf ordered the Bistec a lo pobre which had the most tender cut of beef I have had in a long time. I got the Jalea mariscos which was legitimately a leaning tower of fried fish. I mean, this thing was massive!!!! When the waitress plopped the plate in front of me I just about fell out of my chair. And man was it good! I was worried about the batter being excessively greasy and heavy but it wasn't....the plate had a nice mix of calamari, scallops, shrimp, oysters, clams, and a really tender white fish that was my personal favorite. My bf also insisted on getting alfajores for dessert which is a "must get" if you come! I ordered a lomo saltado and the fries were cold and uncooked and I don't have time to say about the other times. Finally, a Peruvian restaurant that I really like! They didn't overdo it with the oil like most other Peruvian places do. I really appreciated that because it truly does transform a dish just by lightening up on the pour (of oil). Extremely dark- a bit too incognito for my taste. They really need to change the lighting in there but that would change the ambiance all together. Pollo Vino was excellent. The menu says that it's a stew but it really isn't. It has as much sauce as any of the saltados have and is not soupy at all. Lomo Saltado - huge chunks of beef - some were chewy tough pieces but I didn't mind as much as I thought I would. Portions fit the price. Entrees listed above were around $17 to $18 each. Complimentary Bread - warm oiled mini baguettes with 2 small sauces to dip. Service: at the end of the meal, the server thanked us for coming in. A simpleand small gesture that really went along way for me.
