Truthfully we were ready to dismiss it as a fried chicken stand until we saw a young couple having salads in the front window booth. We were wondering if they were on a blind date trying to impress each other with "healthy" eating habits. Seemed to be working as her flirtatious giggle was on overdrive. Jamie and I traveled to different continents for our entree salads. We had the pleasure of trying the fried chicken tenders at a local eatery and was thoroughly impressed. Actually, it was catered for a birthday party for one of my kids this past weekend. And we ordered for about 55-60 adults / people, which was plenty. The chicken was crispy on the outside, while still being juicy and tender on the inside. The grilled chicken was juicy and was delicious. The seasoning was spot on and added a great deal of flavor to each bite. The cole slaw was also noteworthy, with a perfect balance of creamy and tangy flavors that complemented the chicken perfectly. The salad was decent, with fresh greens and a variety of veggies, but did not quite reach the level of excellence as the other dishes. Provided enough serving spoons and helped me carry the items to my car. Great service. My friend and I was recommended to try this place out. We were told the chicken was out of this world. Arrived the ambiance is nothing to write home about. However, we came for the food not how it looks. We were welcome by the young lady at the register. Purchased the infamous signature chicken strips with chicken and waffles sandwiches and sauces. 2 mins into ordering 20 high schoolers came in for lunch. We waited 15-20 mins in the chaos of kids for our order. 12 kids got their order before ours. I asked the older lady with passing out the food; we have been waiting for our food before the kids arrive. She replied we were expecting them. They get served first! We were surprised by her response like it was a cafeteria!! WTH! Food finally came. The portions were large; however we spent $60. The chicken was hot, burnt with absolutely no flavor. Like how?? No salt or pepper. Did taste the chili pepper or nothing!! The onions rings order was frozen or store bought. Just no taste at all. This is not a place I would recommend. Tired between jumping back and forth between Prop Chicken and a few other places for a chicken sandwich, I gave Lola's another shot. I tried ordering from here once before but they closed pretty early so my order was canceled. I'm going to give it another shot because I was pleasantly surprised! The green chili chicken soup was shockingly good. I ordered chicken tortilla soup whenever I see it on the menu and that's close enough. My God! I could've eaten a whole bowl. I didn't expect beans, but they added a creaminess to the soup. The star of our order was the Lola's chicken sandwich. I offered my partner a bite and he proceeded to eat a whole half of my sandwich. Rude! He loved the classic slaw which reminded him of curtido since it's vinegar forward. A big draw to this place was the variety of sauces they offer; unfortunately, we only got one type of sauce when we ordered 3 different ones. Curly fries were good as always, but the fries were a miss for me. Soft fries make me sad. The signature breading on the tenders was still crispy when delivered. Chicken is good. My favorite salad is the Baja Salad. However, my emotions are mixed because every time I order through GrubHub, this restaurant always forgets to put some thing in the bag. One time it was the salad dressing for the salad, another time it was the tortilla strips that go with the salad, this last time it was the sauce to my chicken tenders. It's never something menial like napkins. It's always something important to the meal that you purchased on food alone I would give Lola four stars. read more

So sad to leave this review. Been coming here for 8 years and it isn't the same anymore. Our tenders were like chicken breast sizes, all undercooked (hope we don't get sick!) and had a soggy crust. The Mac was just pasta shells, no sauce or bacon and under seasoned. The fries and onion rings were cold and probably were not fresh, sitting for a while. Even our salads were sad looking. Too bad, we used to enjoy the food here and would bring family and guests here. The prices have gone way up too. Won't be back again. Bring back Mark and the crew!! This place is a one way ticket to FLAVOR-TOWN! The breading on the chicken tendies is something special. They are the perfect amount of fried; not too fried but just right. Also, I should mention the tendies are meaty. These aren't your run of the mill thin tendies. They are THICK! My go-to is the buffalo chicken sandwhich which, in my opinion has the perfect amount of blue cheese and buffalo sauce. They go light on the buffalo sauce which I like cause no indigestion but if you want extra sauce, they will hook that up too. I went here a few years back and liked it. It's not as good now. The chicken itself is fine. White meat, unfortunately, but tender and moist enough. The breading is not good, though. The last time I was here the breading had a unique blend of spices that gave it flavor. Now it's all bland. I also tried a sandwich, which didn't seem to have any chipotle mayo at all. The chicken here is so delicous! I'm so bummed that they don't have the meal combos anymore but we basically ordered a little bit of everything. We tried both the classic and the signature selection of the tenders. the signature is slightly more crunchy with a sesame coating. Onion rings were delicious and so was the signature cole slaw that had a little kick due to the habanero. The best thing about this place is their plethora of sauces. TLDR; quick and decent chicken and other menu items at an affordable price I found out about Lola's after taking a workout class across the street and took note after finding out they made chicken sandwiches. Cause let's be real, who doesn't love a good old chicken sandwich as comfort food. Overall, it's a pretty self-serve place. You walk up to the counter to pay and they give you a number. After you place your order seating is first come, first serve just like with your drinks. They're also kind enough to bring the food out to the table and then bus for you when you're done eating. | FOOD | + Signature chicken sandwich - I enjoyed the bread that they had for the sandwich since it held up well and had a nice bite. We got the slaw on the side because we didn't want to drench it just in case the bread didn't hold up well and it was OK. We opted for the signature chicken this time and TBH I wasn't the biggest fan with the sesame seeds. The chicken was moist and tasty but I thought the various seeds in the breading overpowered the chicken itself. + Onion Rings - YUM. The onion rings were lightly coated and perfectly crispy. I only wish they had more! But for ~$3 an order it's not too expensive either. + Mac n Cheese - SUPER cheesy so they definitely don't kid when they say it's a mix of 4 cheeses. The pasta was cooked well and held up against all the different cheeses, but the blend wasn't my favorite mix so I might opt for other options next time. This was an absolute shocker. There a bunch of sleeper spots on the strip, and it's easy to get a three or four star experience This is not average. This is not sub-par. This place won us over within minutes. The staff was engaging and interested in our experience. The variety of food, regardless of of the fact that it's all chicken, was freakin' delightful. The food came promptly and blew our minds. Their batter seems to be infused with sesame seeds and pepper flakes and is ABSOLUTELY UNLIKE any other taste I've had and I've lived in the Bay Area my entire life. Lola's was very good lunch 2day. Ranch chicken sandwich, super fresh bread, red onion, ripe tomatoes and green crisp lettuce. I asked for easy ranch and it was perfectly made. Garlic fries were very good but not super hot. Coleslaw was yummy, slightly heavy on the vinegar I think but SUPER fresh ingredients! The cashier was Joe, he was friendly with a great sense of humor! He wore a mask but no gloves. I paid with cash, when he handed us utensils, I kindly asked him to wash his hands and give us another set. He was so sweet and apologetic and complied with my request right away. I thanked him for being understanding and not offended. I asked for a cup for ice but there were no lids. Another female worker came out and told me to reach over the counter and grab one. I had just used hand sanitizer so I let her know before I reached over. I noticed some workers in the kitchen had masks not fully on. They should be allowed breaks to step away so they remain covered when preparing food. They also serve burgers, I did not get picture of the menu but they had great choices! I will visit again. I only ate half the sandwich and gave the other half to a friend...HE LOVED IT! It was a bit of a wait due to it being SB but I ordered the signature chicken tenders which were GREAT, and I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich which was also GREAT and BIG! I would give ZERO stars if I could. Found this critter ALIVE in my to-go Asian Citrus chicken salad a few nights ago. Was the lettuce properly washed??? Draw your own conclusions... Needless to say, I will not be back. E-V-E-R. I also noticed the cook texting on their cellphone. I mentioned this and hope it was passed on to management. Sure the cook was wearing gloves, but we all know how much cellphones carry germs and bacteria. Touching your cellphone then handling food. Unacceptable! I picked up my order close to 6:30 P.M. so by the time I got home they were closed. I wrapped up the salad container in foil and a tightly closed bag and put it in the fridge. Yes, I was intent on returning it exactly as I received it. I guess the little reptile liked the cold temperature because I had my sister check the next day to see if it was still alive and it was! I called the restaurant the next day and (presumably) spoke with a manager letting her know there was a problem with my order and that I'd be bringing it back. We ordered delivery for lunch. The driver made contactless delivery but also watched the package until I came to make sure I got it. I've been here maybe once or twice before, so I know the chicken is pretty good. However, since we got delivery, the food arrived pretty cold and it affected the quality of the sandwiches, especially the Chicken and Waffles Sandwich. I think the only remedy would be to order pick up or eat in. The onion rings, on the other hand, were still very crispy, even when cold. I still enjoyed my meal. I've walked by this place numerous times and finally decided to drop in for lunch. We got the Flamethrower Chicken Sandwich and the Baja Chicken Salad. The Flamethrower sandwich wasn't spicy at all, but had a ton of flavor. The chicken was tender and with the sauce, jalapenos and onions, it was an explosion in my mouth. However the explosion was dulled by the tough bread. It would've been perfect if they had a crunchier bread. My jaw was tired and hurting after chewing after a while. My girlfriend got the Baja salad, and it came with the tortilla strips and the honey lime dressing on the side. It also came with large pieces of chicken tenders. She loves the dressing and thought the salad was really good, and she's a picky eater. Overall it was a good experience. Good cheap food and good portions, and the cashier was friendly and ready to give recommendations. TLDR: Lola's Chicken Shack is going downhill with their new owners. LOTS of red flags. The food is still ok, but the new owner is cheap and not friendly. We've always been a fan of Lola's and used to eat there at least once a week. We've gotten catering orders for parties before and everyone loves it. However, we had a bad experience this past weekend: - I had ordered 100 little tenders - $165. In Raj's quote, he wrote $326. Ok fine, simple mistake... - Upon delivery of my order, he forgot an entire large tray of Lola Mac. When I called him, he said it was my fault and that I had cancelled the item. If I wanted it, I'd have to pay more. I told him to look at his quote and receipt-- the Mac was on it... He then blamed the chef. - I had asked him multiple times if we ordered too much, but he only told me to increase my order. We had so much left over. Mark, the old owner, used to be knowledgeable about quantities and would give me his honest opinion. This new owner only wants your money. - With servingware, Raj gave me a pair of tongs for the Lola Mac (which makes no sense) and 1 set of spoons to share amongst the salads...no spoons or anything was provided for all the dressings. Cheap. - The Caesar salad did not have any croutons on it. It was an entire tray of lettuce and some parmesan cheese. He said croutons are by request. I've never heard of such a thing and it does not say "croutons by request" anywhere on the menu. - I called him to give my honest opinion (did not ask for a refund) so that I wouldn't have to write a review, but he got defensive, rude, told me to not talk to a "businessman" like this and hung up on me. Very mature businessman he is...way to take ownership and feedback from customers...Strike 3. So here we are. Along with other recent reviews, Lola's seems to be trending downwards. Such a bummer that a good local family business that worked hard to build up their name went to the wrong ownership. Worst service ever. I came in on a Monday night when there was hardly any customers in the restaurant. I ordered a soup and salad to go. I sat patiently while the staff was goofing around. After about 10-15 min I noticed a bag just sitting there but didn't want to assume it was mine or a call in order. After I noticed two customers who came in after me with much larger orders get their food I asked where my order was and it had been sitting on the counter the whole time while two of the young staff clearly didn't care about serving customers. I asked for a refund as they tried to offer me my food why would I want a cold soup that has just been sitting there. Quick Summary - Humble, neighborhood chicken spot with my favorite chicken tenders and fries. Super casual place to grab some lunch or an easy dinner. Signature Chicken Tenders - I love love lovee the signature chicken tenders. For white meat, they're super tender and juicy! One or two times, they were a bit on the dry side, but most of the time they're perfectly moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. Also, the price is FANTASTIC. 3 tenders is enough for a meal for me at an unbelievable $7 with one sauce. If you're ordering tenders for multiple people, it's cheaper to just get however many 5 tender orders you need to feed everyone. I love getting the honey mustard sauce! I've tried the pesto which is ordinary and personally I'm not a fan of the strawberry BBQ. I'm curious to try other sauces. Fries - My FAVORITE fries. I recommend them to everyone. Sometimes they make them in batches and you get an order that's been sitting out for a few minutes, but when they're made fresh, they're SO. GOOD. Super crispy on the outside, really fluffy on the inside, perfectly seasoned, and the perfect thickness. Hands down my go-to fries.
