I've never had anything except for the fried fish and fries and that's all you really need. banger

the best fried fish and more for over 20 years absolute ...back when the neighborhood was still "oaksterdam...'back in the early 2000s'"! just about every other foodie done went out of business within those past 20+ past years... including "merritt bakery restaurant on east 18th street and kwik way on lakeshore...but, thank god...this place, right across from the ac transit building is still going strong! highly recommend this place absolute ! ‍ read more

It's been over a decade since I came here! I used to come here after school to get the Quick Bite combo with a free strawberry soda back in the days lol I told the worker about how I used to come here and she said it's still the same owner. She said it's been 16 years since she worked there. Atmosphere: It's a small little shop. There is no seating area. You have to order to-go. Service: There was no line. The lady was really nice. It took about 10 mins for her to fry the fish I ordered. Food: I got the 4pc catfish with a side of macaroni salad. The fish was fried upon ordering. It was hot, light, fresh, juicy and delicious! It was just as I remembered! I wanted the coleslaw but she said it was sold out, so I chose the macaroni salad. It was tasty and complimented the fish very well! Overall, I recommend coming here if you are craving some fried fish. They have different kinds of fish, such as catfish, snapper, sole and tilapia. In addition, they have chicken wings, popcorn shrimp, popcorn chicken and burger as well. They fry the food when you order it so you know it will be fresh and hot! read more

It's fine as long as the young girl isnt the one cooking. Avoid during lunch time at all cost.I get 45 minutes for my lunch, order ahead and still have to wait 40 damn minutes for a basic cheeseburger and fry meal. Ridiculous read more

This is one of my favorite little spots. I specifically go here for the party wings and the little owner lady is so sweet. She works really hard by herself to keep her business open. I would definitely recommend this place to someone else. Ambience isn't that great but it's a to go spot so it's OK. read more

This is truly a hole-in-the-wall place that has been open for Years, and is one of the most consistent food places I have ever had the pleasure to visit. The counter is so high, you can barely see the cook which is usually an extremely friendly woman with a hair net, apron and plastic gloves. (Kudos to her by the way for navigating customers, food and the occasional ringing of the business phone!) Thus is definitely a place to pick up your food and go as most visitors are waiting in their car until their orders are ready. Parking is not so bad and if your timing is right during the day and it's not rush hour. Just simply good fried food here. The chicken, fish and prawns combo plate is always seasoned to perfection and piping hot!! In that order, the chicken is always tasty, the fish is fried well and moist inside, and the prawns are always the first to go if you didn't order that many! Fried food, seasoned well, and hot. Quick bite meets those comfort areas perfectly. read more

This is not the same quality Quick Bite that I'm used to. I always order the 10-piece whole wings and fries. When-I-tell-you, the wings were as big as party wings, the seasonings/taste was off and the taste of the chicken led me to believe the grease was old. Pissed me off last week. Whole chicken wings are pretty big in size. This was pitiful. Stop cutting got damn corners and treat your loyal's right! read more

Pretty small space. I always see it but have never gone in, but after my appointment up the street I was sooo hungry. I stopped in and they have pretty good lunch specials for those looking for a quick bite to eat with Plenty of options under $10, which is such a rarity these days. I'll be back to try one of those because I got the catfish lunch with fries. There was one woman working and she was nice. It was pretty good and seasoned, but I really wish I had got tartar sauce. I'm not even sure if they have tartar sauce, but they loaded me up with the hot sauce. They don't take Apple pay at this point. Sorry folks. read more

I just ordered delivery from this location, through GrubHub, and I'm really disappointed. I ordered their chicken sandwich with fries as well as their 3 wing/3 fried fish combo w/ mashed potatoes. They did not have mashed potatoes, and instead of substituting it for something else, they just didn't even give me a side. It wasn't until my dasher went to pick up my order, realized they were missing a box, and called me to explain the situation. I asked them to replace my mashed potato side with fries. In my orders, the side order of fries was very minimal -- almost as if someone took 1 side order and split it in half. Additionally, I was missing 1 fish in my 3/3 combo meal. The chicken sandwich was really sad and the lettuce wasn't fresh. One thing I can say is that everything came hot when it was delivered, but that was honestly the only good thing. Everything was on the saltier side and the fish/wings weren't very meaty. Disappointed order for ~18 before tax/tip/delivery! My total was ~24 after everything (I have Dashpass to reduce the delivery cost) read more

A one woman show, but definitely the spot if you're into fish & chips. So you basically order and come back in like 10 mins to pay and pick up your food because she makes the food fresh. The wait to order could take some time depending where she's at in her process and how many people ahead of you. But once you get your fried goodness, you won't regret it. I got the 3 way combo, and it hit the spot. The prawns were a bit small, the chicken wings were good, but the fried fish was what I was craving and it did not disappoint. Fries were great too! Not too many fried fish places around, but I'm glad this one is here. read more

* I'm a super fan of good chicken sandwiches and heard they had a homemade chicken sandwich. I came here for 1 1/2 months and they were out of the homemade chicken sandwiches. I thought it was sttange, but they had a cool attitude and I was determined to try their sandwich. One day they actually had the homemade chicken sandwich so I ordered it...it was previously frozen chicken tenders and fried in the same grease as the fish and the shrimp(you know the taste)...I had a sandwich with about 4 or 5 chicken tenders on it and its tastes like it was fried in old grease. I checked to make sure it wasn't fish on the sandwich and it was definitely chicken tenders. I could not eat the chicken sandwich as it tastes like something other than chicken, more specifically a fish that I have never had. The owner/person cooking was very pleasant and pretty engaging, and my coworker enjoyed a few items from here, but Im no fan of fried foods that are all fried in the same grease. read more

Whaat! I've worked near this area for over a year and never knew this place existed. Can you say hole in the wall? It's such a tiny shop, that this place can easily be overlooked. Quick Bite excels at fried goodness. Everything here was fried perfectly and deliciously. I think its a dangerous thing that I have now discovered a place that serves fried food. I ordered the combo with my coworkers, used the $2 off coupon on orders greater than $12. I bought 2 combo, minus the $2 coupon, came out to be around $17. It came with about 3-4 fried chicken wings, 3 fried catfish, and cajun fries. A couple of our orders got messed up, so instead of fries, we got macaroni salad. Gross. Anyways, my coworkers were kind enough to share their fries. The best part of the meal would definitely have to be the catfish. The batter was unique and tasty, not too salty, and the fish was juicy and tasted fresh. It paired very well with the hot sauce. The chicken wings were okay, definitely need more hot sauce on those. The cajun fries were regular cajun fries. The macaroni salad wasn't good, I'm not a fan of macaroni salad in the first place. Definitely wanted more cajun fries. I recommend getting the cat fish! I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu, but I must take a step back from fried foods for now. The food coma will definitely hit you! read more

I've been coming here on and off since I was 17 years old. I took a break back in 2018 because they had stopped selling flat pieces for a while and sold the whole party wing which I don't like. But I did passed by today and decided to ask if they had flat pieces again. They sure did! I was so excited! They still taste good like they did years back. I ordered a 10 piece with fries and 2 pieces of fish. It sure was good. I'm glad I was passing by. And I'm glad I had my son with me because he was able to enjoy their food as well. I used to always bring my daughter when she was little. Now I have a small son that has a chance to go with me when I'm in the area. I'll definitely be back. read more

Good soul food style fried chicken wings in a tiny divey downtown Oakland storefront. Cooked to order and only 2 small tables so essentially a takeout spot. Red beans and rice was only ok. But the wings were tasty and seasoned properly. Next visit I will get to the catfish, oysters and other down home options that will irritate my personal primary care physician. JYW recommends. read more

I decided to use my groupon this evening for an early dinner..... This is more of a take out joint with a few 2 person tables..... I ordered the wings, catfish, fries, hush puppies....all were ok....the best are their wings....even know it seems like they are all breaded with the same flavors..... Will return for a bunch of wings...... Family owned with good folks trying to make a living just like me...... read more

This place was ehhh-ok the extra star is for the nice lady-good customer service. As far as the food, the chicken was seasoned good, just a bit feathery....I don't like feathers on my food, the shrimp..ok, they were butterflied. The cleanliness(lack of) of this place is what made me iffy about the food. It was clean as in wiped down, but it just looked very dingy in there and smelled of old grease. I most likely won't return, but the food was not the worse. If they remodeled and made it look clean I would definitely return. read more

A very small "hole in the wall" place that sits next to a bar. There is a small seating area but nothing fancy. There are ALWAYS plenty of Soda but that's usually it for refreshments besides water. They usually have sweets like banana pudding and sometimes cakes so that's a plus! I usually get chicken, shrimp, and a side. But be aware! Sometimes the take out containers leak. The chicken is good and not to crunchy. The shrimp is fried and has some good flavor. The greens (which leaked all over the bag) was definitely good but not spicy. (I tend to like my greens with some kick). Those who are behind the counter are usually nice. But be prepared to wait 15-20 minutes for your order! read more

Quick Bite - No public restroom - Fast Food Near Me - Oakland, California

In the area, so Yelped on the iphone for something fast, as I had 15 min before my 7pm meeting. It was 2 blocks away so walked over, quickly assessed that there are copious quantities of most things which I didn't need so got the 4-piece catfish that comes with one side for $5.79 or some crazy #, that's meant to round up to $6 when tax is included. Going fried anyway, so ordered up the fried okra side. So the meeting was actually all business and I ended up not being able to eat my meal until I got home around 9pm. Eww, I thought - microwaved fried food. But you know what? It was dang good! The fish is very tender, flaky, and flavorful beneath the fried coating. And the okra was similarly perfect. In fact, I ate only two of the four pieces, plus half the okra, and two days later came back to it for lunch and it was STILL pretty darn good. As long as you have that hankerin' for fried.....I say go for it here! read more

Quick Bite isn't exactly eye-poping and their menu isn't exactly extensive. But, you can tell that they are good a what they do. I ordered the $5 special (10 pc wings and a side). They have the usual sides (fries, mac & cheese, potato salad, coleslaw) but I went with the fried okra. So glad I did too! The fried okra was great and not stringy. I only wish they gave me more. As for the wings, I was expecting something along the lines of hot wings. Apparently it is just fried chicken. The flavor was alright. I wasn't too impressed with the flavor (like fried chicken from luckys or safeway) but is was cooked right...not terribly greasy or dry. They have other items on their menu such as southern fried catfish, snapper, prawns, oysters, scallops, pork chop and rib tips. The interior is pretty much non-existent as this is a no frills establishment. Just a counter and a figure of a guy playing upright bass. I like the vibe though. It seems like a nice neighborhood spot. The service is great. The staff is helpful and friendly. Everything is made to order so allow like 10-15 minutes. In short: good food, affordable, the service is great, love the vibe, I'll be back and I recommend you stop by too. read more

I ordered the fish combo this time remembering my last review about the iffy-ness of the chicken. The fish was sole and catfish. Both were fried to perfection and tasted wonderful. I just wish they made their own condiments instead of packets... Also, I think it's robbery that they charge 1 dollar for card usage... :( Anyway, great fish! The fries were extremely greasy this time...not so yummy. The fish was fantastic. I wish I had a piece of bread to sandwich it with. Mm! read more

I had the 2 piece special. NEVER AGAIN. It was horrible. I understand the price for what you get, but I paid for 2 pieces of fish not fish skin. The fries were salty beyond sprinkle. If you want high blood pressure, try the fries. I w9nt be back because this is the something that happened early last year when I ordered fish. Definitely a no frills, hole in the wall type place. But that usually means good food (at least in my experience). There's very limited seating inside (probably 3 2-tops at most) so you're better off ordering to go. I decided to order some chicken tenders for lunch. Luckily I asked how big one tender would be since I would've ordered 6 otherwise. 3 is way more than enough for me. I ordered seasoned fries for the side. Tenders breading was crispy and chicken meat was just right. Not too dry. The barbecue sauce definitely added to the taste of the strips. Seasoned fries were a little on the soggy side, but at least it wasn't drenched in oil. They were as thin and kind of had the texture as In-N-Out fries. I like my fries thin though so I didn't mind it at all. read more

This place was an unexpected surprise. While drinking at the Layover, all we could smell were the food that kept trailing into the bar. So like the hungry beasts we were, ventured over and got some fried oysters, catfish, wings, and fries. Let me just say, it was on point with a cajun touch to it. I normally don't eat a whole lotta fried foods, but since this was literally right next to the bar, it had our name written all over it! Minus: They closed at 8pm. C'mon now?! Friday night and you're closing at 8 and it was the Art Crawl too?! Bad business move. Don't you know people are hungry for some fried food when they get drunk? read more

This is the only place I know of near here that does Southern fried catfish. And they do it WELL - how do you tell? The outside is fried hard and crisp, but the inside is not greasy, but steamed - the hallmark of clean and hot oil when deep-fried. The price used to be out of this world, but with the economic times the way they are, they understandably raised the prices about a year and a half ago. So that's the only thing keeping it from a 5 star. The wings are tasty too; I usually go for the half wings / half fish combo, like Sabrina. Of course, being authentic Southern =) it comes with 2 slices of white bread, and you get yer choice of cole slaw or fries. I usually go for the full heart-attack experience and get the fries. Oh how I miss this place! Watch out if you go there late at night, though, as some of the clientele are less than savory (but you should know that if you're around this part of Oakland at that time of night). Best idea is to call ahead, as it usually takes about 15 minutes til it's ready. Final note: they get single-serve desserts from another place, and it's good - peach cobbler, lemon meringue pie, and a few others. Good stuff. read more
