I used to come here after school to get the Quick Bite combo with a free strawberry soda back in the days lol I told the worker about how I used to come here and she said it's still the same owner. She said it's been 16 years since she worked there. Atmosphere: It's a small little shop. There is no seating area. You have to order to-go. Service: There was no line. The lady was really nice. It took about 10 mins for her to fry the fish I ordered. Food: I got the 4pc catfish with a side of macaroni salad. The fish was fried upon ordering. It was hot, light, fresh, juicy and delicious! It was just as I remembered! I wanted the coleslaw but she said it was sold out, so I chose the macaroni salad. It was tasty and complimented the fish very well! Overall, I recommend coming here if you are craving some fried fish. They have different kinds of fish, such as catfish, snapper, sole and tilapia. This is one of my favorite little spots. I specifically go here for the party wings and the little owner lady is so sweet. She works really hard by herself to keep her business open. This is truly a hole-in-the-wall place that has been open for Years, and is one of the most consistent food places I have ever had the pleasure to visit. The counter is so high, you can barely see the cook which is usually an extremely friendly woman with a hair net, apron and plastic gloves. (Kudos to her by the way for navigating customers, food and the occasional ringing of the business phone!) Thus is definitely a place to pick up your food and go as most visitors are waiting in their car until their orders are ready. Parking is not so bad and if your timing is right during the day and it's not rush hour. Just simply good fried food here. I just ordered delivery from this location, through GrubHub, and I'm really disappointed. I ordered their chicken sandwich with fries as well as their 3 wing/3 fried fish combo w/ mashed potatoes. They did not have mashed potatoes, and instead of substituting it for something else, they just didn't even give me a side. It wasn't until my dasher went to pick up my order, realized they were missing a box, and called me to explain the situation. I asked them to replace my mashed potato side with fries. In my orders, the side order of fries was very minimal -- almost as if someone took 1 side order and split it in half. Additionally, I was missing 1 fish in my 3/3 combo meal. The chicken sandwich was really sad and the lettuce wasn't fresh. One thing I can say is that everything came hot when it was delivered, but that was honestly the only good thing. The wait to order could take some time depending where she's at in her process and how many people ahead of you. But once you get your fried goodness, you won't regret it. It came with about 3-4 fried chicken wings, 3 fried catfish, and cajun fries. A couple of our orders got messed up, so instead of fries, we got macaroni salad. Gross. Anyways, my coworkers were kind enough to share their fries. The best part of the meal would definitely have to be the catfish. The batter was unique and tasty, not too salty, and the fish was juicy and tasted fresh. It paired very well with the hot sauce. The chicken wings were okay, definitely need more hot sauce on those. A very small "hole in the wall" place that sits next to a bar. There is a small seating area but nothing fancy. There are ALWAYS plenty of Soda but that's usually it for refreshments besides water. They usually have sweets like banana pudding and sometimes cakes so that's a plus! I usually get chicken, shrimp, and a side. But be aware! Sometimes the take out containers leak. The chicken is good and not to crunchy. The shrimp is fried and has some good flavor. The greens (which leaked all over the bag) was definitely good but not spicy. Going fried anyway, so ordered up the fried okra side. So the meeting was actually all business and I ended up not being able to eat my meal until I got home around 9pm. Eww, I thought - microwaved fried food. But you know what? It was dang good! The fish is very tender, flaky, and flavorful beneath the fried coating. And the okra was similarly perfect. In fact, I ate only two of the four pieces, plus half the okra, and two days later came back to it for lunch and it was STILL pretty darn good. They have other items on their menu such as southern fried catfish, snapper, prawns, oysters, scallops, pork chop and rib tips. The interior is pretty much non-existent as this is a no frills establishment. Just a counter and a figure of a guy playing upright bass. I like the vibe though. It seems like a nice neighborhood spot. The service is great. The staff is helpful and friendly. Everything is made to order so allow like 10-15 minutes. Tenders breading was crispy and chicken meat was just right. Not too dry. The barbecue sauce definitely added to the taste of the strips. Seasoned fries were a little on the soggy side, but at least it wasn't drenched in oil. They were as thin and kind of had the texture as In-N-Out fries. This is the only place I know of near here that does Southern fried catfish. And they do it WELL - how do you tell? The outside is fried hard and crisp, but the inside is not greasy, but steamed - the hallmark of clean and hot oil when deep-fried. The price used to be out of this world, but with the economic times the way they are, they understandably raised the prices about a year and a half ago. So that's the only thing keeping it from a 5 star. The wings are tasty too; I usually go for the half wings / half fish combo, like Sabrina. Of course, being authentic Southern =) it comes with 2 slices of white bread, and you get yer choice of cole slaw or fries. I usually go for the full heart-attack experience and get the fries. Oh how I miss this place! Watch out if you go there late at night, though, as some of the clientele are less than savory (but you should know that if you're around this part of Oakland at that time of night). Best idea is to call ahead, as it usually takes about 15 minutes til it's ready.
