My homegirl Miles put on to this spot. If you have $5 dollars in your pocket that can get you five deep ass friend wings and some fries. They don't mess with Pepsi or Coke here, they have Shasta. It's a literal hole in the wall and that is how I like it. It's cheap, simple and good. Bring cash because the atm/debit machine charges a fee. They can take a while, but seriously complaining about your food taking too long is a bad look. You're gonna get to stuff your face regardless! The patrons are memorable too. I'm not thrilled. My coworker decided to order from here for our Thursday lunch and because I didn't want to order wings and gnaw on chicken bones in front of my boss, I ordered the chicken sandwich with jalapeno ranch. I got a hard round chicken patty slapped between two pieces of soggy wheat bread with some veggies that had seen better days. The accompanying green salad did not come with dressing and the greens were the same quality as the sandwich. downtown busineeses seem to be down recently and some eateries have opted not to open evenings. with the bar closed next door due to a suspended license, parking isn't a problem in the evenings. tried the wings (5/4.60) and the peach cobbler pie(5 oz/2.50) by cassandra's -the wings were very small and had a little spiciness to them. french fries were ok as was the slices of bread. no repeat for the wings. -the pie cobbler was sugary, cinnamon and tasted very good. the cakes looked good also. read more

This is very tiny place with standing room only and maybe 2 tables. It isn't for sit down but only for phone in and take out orders. The menu is very basic- a selection of fish, oysters, chicken, okra, fries etc and everything is fried and battered, you can smell the grease as you are walking there. My advise is to call in your order so you aren't there waiting as it can be long, I came on a very quiet Saturday afternoon and had to wait 20 min. As small as it is, they get tons of phone in orders, esp around lunch time so your order will just be in que, hence the long wait. Someone posted a picture of the menu here on yelp and that is exactly what they offer, no daily specials, so best to take a look and call in ahead of time. I ordered fish to go on my way home from work so when I picked up the order I just wanted to grab it and get on the freeway quickly. After seconds in the car I could smell the fish and it was fishy, you know, the kind of stench you get from cooking old old fish. Unfortunately I was already in traffic and had no place to throw out so it rode with me all the way to Pleasant Hill. Mmm, I felt pretty fat after that meal, especially when the food coma started to hit. I sat at work with a glazed look the rest of the afternoon. So my friend was craving fried foods and was telling me about this hole in the wall, so we decided to get lunch here one day. The walk was pretty far from where we worked but that's good if we'll be eating fried foods! The place is super tiny and super warm but it definitely smelled really good, and their menu had a good selection. I got the quick bite from my friends suggestion which is three pieces of fried catfish and yuppp that was definitely really good. I also ordered a side of onion rings and I kind of wish I got a side of fries instead because the onion rings were meh. The catfish was pretty good though because it was soft and not too much saltiness. I definitely have never tasted any other types of fried foods that tasted like this. It's very different. Total hole in the wall but food is good. Everything on the menu is fried & they cook it when you place the order so its still hot. For $22 we got an 4 piece oyster meal, large (5 pieces)catfish meal & 5 piece wing meal. All meals come w/ a side. The wings are way better than Wingstop. I ordered the red snapper. Seasoned very well. The pieces were a little thin some were bigger but that didn't bother me. Macaroni salad was nice. Got a slice of buttercream cake, I ate that later on, it was delicious. It was by Cassandra's Wedding Cakes from Richmond,CA. I just arrived at QUICK BITE! First time here and excited about eating some good fish. I spent $16.50 for a three way which consisted of 3 pieces of snapper, and two shrimp. When I say HORRIBLE!!!!!! that's an understatement!!! Every single piece of my snapper was hollow, and caked with cornmeal. I was literally eating fried chips with cornmeal as the batter. I never write reviews but, I had to because I'm appalled that they can get away with selling fish like this. I will NEVER spend my $ at this hole in the wall again. My favorite little hole-in-the-wall, ever. The chicks that work there are nice, the food is cheap, and you'll be full. Everything I have tried has been hella good, including all the cakes and dessert stuff they have. DELICIOUS. I always stop here if I am in the area for some fried fish, fries, and cake. I also appreciate that they have every Shasta soda imaginable. From the outside it doesn't look appealing, but believe me, it's worth it. Very small menu, but Quick Bite executes it well: legit, no-nonsense Southern fried food. The pork chop sandwiches sell out quick for good reason, but even if you can't snatch one up, you can't go wrong with the chicken wings/strips! Quick Bite offers standard sides you would expect: fries, coleslaw, potato salad, fried okra, and hush puppies. So there is absolutely NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS PLACE. Its a hole in the wall fish and chip place that also serves fried wings. They are right on the mark with the level of crispness in the fry and the flavor/seasoning. I like their prices. On my first trip I order the fried snapper and hush puppies which came with sliced bread! I enjoyed every drop of what I got. So as far as a fried joint goes, its def a good look. I have to take away stars because they do not serve whole pieces of fish...they are strips if you will. I am a NYer so I am not sure if this is a Bay thing or a Quick Bite thing, but when I order fish I dont want strips!! Because I did not know this when ordering, I didn't order the right amount which left me hungry and wanting more :-( I never had a fried meal and still been hungry. The Fast Eddie is a gem in the Oakland lunch scene - a delicious fried catfish sandwich, seasoned fries and a drink for cheap - $6 bucks! I occasionally get a craving for this beautiful disaster and it reliably results in so much grease coursing through my blood stream that I have to fight all afternoon to stay awake, but it is oh-so-worth it. I give it a four only because I remember the days when it cost $4.75 and the sandwich was twice as big, and for some reason it didn't come with a soda the last time. But the smaller sandwich might be for the better, since the full size previous incarnation was actually a little too much. I walk by this place four times a day when I go to and from work and had wanted to try this place. When I finally came in, I saw how small the place was and thought I found a gold mine because they are always so busy and have a line going out the door. I wasn't sure what to order, so I ordered a cheeseburger and the ranch jalapeno burger with fries. My total was $16 and change (the fries are ordered separately) and I didn't even order a drink. The lady cooking and taking orders was really pleasant. There were a lot of people ordering the cat fish and chicken, but some of the reviews I had read didn't have nice things to say about them so I stuck with burgers. When the food was finally ready, I walked the one block to my office and ate (half the food was for my kids, I wasn't eating two burgers myself lol). The fries were very soggy, to the point that they would not hold ketchup. The buns on the burgers were soggy, almost like they were sitting in liquid. The jalapenos were missing from my burger, but then I noticed the ranch had some jalapeno sauce mixed in with it. I really wanted for this place to be a go to when I was hungry, but this experience made me sad. read more

I used to go just about every week since I worked in Downtown Oakland for three years and always ordered the same thing: the quick bite - six pieces of perfectly fried cornmeal crunchy catfish with toast and seasoned fries. I think there was a generic cola that came with the meal too but I never drank that crap. But ooooohhh, Quick Bite got me craving some soul food nearly every day. A word to the wise - call ahead! Ironically, the wait at Quick Bite can be really long, and especially so Fridays (for some reason everyone and they mama be wantin fried catfish on Friday). The other option is make a lunch date with a pal and hang out at Pat's next door where you can get hella cheap booze and snack on cheese cubes at the bar while you wait (no joke!). They even have Crystal hot sauce for you if you want to eat your fish at the bar. Pure Class..... O-TOWN!!!!! Just don't ask the bartender what happened to Pat. You definitely get what you pay for. You can get 10 "party wings" for about $6 which is hella cheap but the wings are tiny and they aren't that good, they're mediocre. I value quality vs. quantity so I'd rather pay the extra bucks for something more enjoyable than mediocre. But if you're at the Layover or a nearby club and just want drunk wings like everyone else on the rave reviews, more power to ya! read more

The fish is fried to perfection here! Friendly service and it is a very clea place. It is a bit salty for those with medical restrictions such as high blood pressure but I dont have that so I love the fish. I still have to try the fried chicken. I LOVE THIS PLACE! I would come here for lunch when I used to work for Smart and Final on Broadway. The owner would buy some of his supplies at our store and so I was able to meet some of the workers, real nice people especially the Latina who would always make me speak to her in spanish when ringing her up so that I could improve my espanol.The 5-piece chicken wings with a slice of bread, fries or cole slaw, and a soda is absolutely crack!
