A hip and trendy coffee house in Encinitas! Its set-up is standard among craft coffee roasters, but definitely on par with others in the space. They have a nice selection of specialty lattes which shows off the creativity of the staff and their coffee offerings! My friend tried the turtle latte (not on the menu, but a recommendation from the staff) and loved it! It's pretty small inside and there's not a ton of seating, but the large outdoor patio probably makes up for that - it was raining when we went, so it was packed inside! They have a small selection of bakery items that looked yummy (organic and gluten free, when possible!), and some coffee beans and other merchandise to sell. read more

Some of the best baked goods and bread I've ever had! My family ordered practically one of everything on the menu and it didn't last a day in our house. My absolute favorites were the salted chip cookies, the brioche cinnamon rolls, the sourdough load, and their rye flax seed loaf! Another amazing pastry we had was the matcha pistachio donut and it by far beats the competition. Not only is the quality of their goods top notch, but they're also all made every morning in house by some of the nicest employees I've met. Nick M. helped us out today and he was extremely kind and helpful! On top of the quality bakery and welcoming workers, Lofty Coffee made a statement followed by action in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement by donating 10% of all sales on Juneteenth to two different organizations + individual team member donations. They are also environmentally conscious and source local grown organic sustainable products. Stopped in for coffee and breakfast while hanging out in Encinitas with my mom. Generally I don't bring my mom to hipster paradises such as this place, but we were hungry and it was close. Loved the decor - very clean and modern. My almond milk mocha was delicious (weirdly, they don't have soy), although my mom thought her long black decaf (an Americano in any other words) was too acidic and bitter. We also had yogurt and granola (the mom) and bread and eggs (the me). Evidently the eggs are organic, local, sustainable, etc etc etc. My mom's yogurt and granola was delish and huge! Meanwhile, I got two little poached eggs and two slices of toast and thought, "aw crap. I'm really hungry." Well, color me surprised. My eggs were perfectly cooked and very good (albeit with huge chunks of cracked pepper on top - don't do that) and the artisan toast and strawberry jam were great. And filling!! I could barely walk out of there between my meal and snarfing some of the yogurt. It's definitely on the pricey side. Your mom, should you choose to bring her, will not approve of their prices and will look at you incredulously because toast is almost $4 alone. Just an FYI. read more

My experience at Lofty was pleasant. First off, the staff at Lofty are always extremely friendly and hospitable - our food and drinks came out fairly quickly. The coffee is nutty, sweet, and smooth. The London fog is fragrant, sweet, and delightful. However, for the amount of money you pay for drinks, the drink portions are quite small. The french toast was excellent, it was fluffy and filling - no complaints there! If you want to get some studying done at Lofty, be mindful that the wifi is a bit slow and the cafe is right on the PCH (noisy). We will definitely be coming back again! read more

I just found my favorite coffee spot in Encinitas! The lattes are so smooth with a nice robust flavor of espresso. I got the poached eggs with a side of apple sausage and my husband got the croissant sandwich. Both were perfectly prepared, hot, fresh and not overly salty (a pet peeve of mine). Super friendly service. The pastries were beautifully displayed and I so badly wanted a cinnamon roll but my breakfast was so good and filling I didn't leave a single crumb. Encinitas coffee shops are a dime a dozen so I was not super excited to try Lofty Coffee Co.. Plus, although I love coffee, coffee don't love me, so I usually stick to tea. And I have LOTS of tea at home. About seven different varieties of organic green tea which I love. So to pay money to go to a run of the mill coffee spot wasn't exciting. I just wanted to get this week's blog done and move on to a "real" place. Little did I know... Steve was out of town and rather than wait until next week when we could go together, we both decided I should march on forward with this one without him. He doesn't drink coffee and we both thought he wouldn't be missing much. I met a couple of girlfriends at the beach so we could get an hour walk in before our "coffee". I have to admit, the location is perfect for this. There was a line out the door when we arrived, Sunday at 10:00 am, and no available tables outside. But turn over was quick and we scored a table inside, which was not ideal but we were lucky to even get that. I looked at the menu on the door and was pleasantly surprised to see some real breakfast items offered, not just the pastries shown in the display. The menu was limited in variety but everything offered sounded great. I saw an order of the Organic French Toast go by and thought of a very special french toast connoisseur in my life that would just LOVE that. It looked downright heavenly. I owe it to him to come back for that one! Instead we ordered a couple of S.L.O.E egg dishes and some pastries (so I could feel like I really gave this place a fair try. Not because I wanted to eat pastries. And remember from my Pannikin review, pastries that you order for The Table don't have calories.) We tried the Lemon Poppy seed cookie and a Cinnamon Bun. I was very excited to see an organic oolong tea on the menu, which I happily ordered. Those not familiar with oolong tea should note that oolong tea comes from the same plant as green and black tea. Green tea leaves are unfermented, black tea leaves are fully fermented and oolong tea leaves are partially fermented. Oolong tea has many health benefits and is quite delicious. There is a great book of fiction by Lisa See called The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane that will really get you in the mood for some ooling. And that is your oolong tea lesson for the day. Lofty Coffee serves their tea on a beautiful wooden platter with an adorable service for one with a glass cup and saucer which somehow makes the tea taste even better. But let's not gloss over those pastries I mentioned. Lofty Coffee has another location across the street where they roast all of their coffee and bake these yummy pastries fresh every day. The Lemon Poppy Seed cookie was really good. Especially served with that oolong tea in the glass mug. Mmmm Mmm! But that Cinnamon Bun! Normally, I would never order a cinnamon bun, but my friend Christine knew about this one. Ohhh, did she know. Looking at it was nothing special. It didn't even have that much frosting. It looked downright dull. But after one bite, you know that this is the best cinnamon bun in town! Really, order one. Here it is again: Our egg dishes came and were beautiful and filling. The home made hummus (called "spread" on the menu) is wonderful on their freshly made, rustic bread. The heirloom tomatoes were juicy and the spinach leaves were crisp and fresh. Perfection! Bottom Line: Lofty Coffee is a hidden gem. It's definitely not just your average coffee shop. I heard from a friend that for a foo-foo drink, order the Salted Caramel Latte. And my friend Rebecca said that out of all of their regular coffees, the "house" was the tastiest. Don't just come for drinks, because the food here is really good. Ok so I'm willing to change my two star to a 5 under the following conditions. For the longest time I've been buying Acai bowls to the tune of about 18 bucks after tip. Being made fresh on the Lofty premise it seems almost worth it. Soooo I bought some root açaí at Costco and a worker there Informed me that it's very good in fact it's the same one that lofty coffee uses! Sooo I bought it tried it and it's spot on the same. Inflexible to the max. The vibe when you walk in seems nice. Looking at the menu board, there's only one price for anything. That's because they only sell one size of any drink. The cashier suggested that my preference of ice tea could be accommodated, but the people who make drinks said no. They kindly refunded what I had paid. They clarified that their iced tea comes from dispensers. I have literally never seen that except at McDonald's. So the visit was polite but came to a sad ending. When Ting gave me a coupon for Lofty I was looking forward to having an additional option in the category, but I will not need to go there again. And we have the problem that Starbucks has turned over to the dark side and CBTL closed. I guess George Clooney and I are going to be pals in the future. This is the first Lofty Coffee that I have ever been to and it left a good impression on me. There was a line out the door when I got there and after I sat down, there was still a line out the door! People like their lofty coffee! In spite of the long lines, I was luck to find a nearby parking spot. I had avocado and a croissant and a Chai tea latte. The avocado and croissant were good but the Chai Tea Latte was beautiful and great!!! I really enjoyed sipping on it and working on my computer (wifi free). I've written a Lofty review on every location they have except the one I frequent the most... *facepalm My go-to drink for iced is the Salted Caramel Latte. I get it half-sweet and with extra ice so there's not so much milk in it (although they do use a quality organic whole milk, but I can't handle too much dairy, so the extra ice makes it perfect). It's a great combo. If I really want maximum espresso flavor and caffeine, I make it a quad (4 shot) latte. For hot drinks, the flat white with their house vanilla is really good. Lofty is usually our first pick when it comes to getting coffee on the weekends. I love their modern interior, lots of outdoor seating, close to beach so you can grab your coffee and head over to watch the sunset. Their food is very food as well. When they have their fresh biscotti, I have to get it. It's never too hard on the teeth. The croissants are great too. Their paninis are tasty. To sum it up, everything is good here! :) read more

I found this by searching "best places to work/do homework" and my one complaint is that they don't have outlets. If you are listed as a good place to work, I'd assume you would have outlets. So if you plan on working, bring a fully charged laptop, other than that I will definitely be coming here again. P.s. parking isn't great, but not a surprise in this area. read more

I'm a pretty simple person. If I'm not hungry and I get good coffee, I'm happy. So Lofty Coffee definitely makes me happy. I've heard the salted caramel lattes are the way to go, so I decided to give into peer pressure and give one a chance. Usually I prefer iced drinks, but it's a very open location and it was a breezy day so I got it hot- and it was great! Hands down one of the best coffee drinks I've ever had. The employees were really friendly; you can tell people just genuinely enjoy being there. Even in the early/mid afternoon they were really busy, which makes me think they have a lot of regulars. There's not a *ton* of seating indoors, but there's plenty outdoors, and it's in a fun location with plenty of other shops and restaurants. read more

Their little Italy was my go-to location pre-COVID and for many years back, yet their roasting works location in Encinitas has become a go-to and great place to social distance and work remotely when a change of office is needed. Absolutely recommend their breakfast croissant! Their bakery is one of the best in town as there are plenty of options of croissants available and are always the perfect level of crispiness and freshly served. Seasonal options are available, their maple scones are great and recommended to be taken advantage of and ordered before the season fades. Salted caramel latte..wow! When trying to stay off the sugar and remain on the low-calorie count, Kyoto cold brew is a tasty way to go. This location has small area for parking but can be squeezed parking in the back or along the Highway. It is practical that there is a small lofty coffee and a roasting works (bigger) location from each other so if you don't find seating in one you can always hop on across to the other to see if there's better luck there. The small lofty location has more options for food (poached eggs and such) as opposed to the bigger roasting works has less yet they still serve croissants yogurt, amongst others. I read a lot of reviews before reviewing. Amongst the complaints are things I don't really care about like tipping and parking..: you should tip people in the service industry and if you have a good reason as not to, then you should ask for a manager... which brings me to the start of my observations of lofty over the last year. There isn't a manager to speak with most of the time concerning complaints or how much things have changed because they're most likely on their way out soon as well. Amongst some noticeable changes are: no more homemade pressed juices, no more homemade milks, no more cinnamon rolls on the weekends, flat whites are served in massive goblets, no more cream cheese, and no one left who really cares what the "lofty" standard is anyway. The people who used to be employed pre-COVID, for whatever reason-- be it training or the need to survive--cared a bit more. They made hot coffee that looked the same every day, and if something was off, there was someone to express that concern to about it. I have heard amongst my friends that the eggs look hardboiled instead of soft poached and why am I paying $7 with tip for store bought almond milk lattes? I don't want to leave this review that training is poor but there is no one to talk to about it. I used to order gluten free toast there every day. But the quality has dropped. It would be hot and smelling romantic. But it's not anymore. Nor are the butter croissants gooey, melting, fresh out the oven. They taste a day old. And as for my flat white this morning, it was all foam. The foam you used to see in coffee shops in the 90's. Please lofty, step up the training on all fronts--coffee and food-- and stop trying to nickel and dime your clientele. We're some of the only few you have left. read more
