I don't get locked out often and this was the second time I've called a locksmith in my life so I didn't know too much of what to expect. Sunday afternoon, a lot of locksmiths are closed or not answering their phones for whatever reason. The Locksmith Doctor was the first one to finally answer the phone and he was able to give me a quote of $90 to unlock the one lock on my door. He would have charged me $85 but there's a $5 surcharge if using Venmo. Anyway, called him and he said he'd be here in about 20 minutes and he was right on time! Gary was friendly and he informed me that picking a lock is a 50/50 chance of working. He was picking my lock for about 25 minutes and we still couldn't get in. This was the 50% of not working I guess. Next resort, was drilling and changing the lock completely. This was where we started having negative feelings towards Gary and his work. He became extremely rude to my property manager who was asking questions for clarification. Gary gave starky comments such as "I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to her!" or "you don't know what you're talking about!" (which we received twice) followed by a "I have a bachelors degree in human physiology and I went back to school for locksmith." Just unnecessary comments when my manager was just asking questions like "isn't there a universal key?" Or "how much will this cost" It was obvious my manager wasn't a native English speaker and was not a locksmith himself so he doesn't understand much of the unlocking a key process. None of his questions were to question Gary's integrity or expertise but purely just questions any customer may ask. Gary then drilled and changed the whole lock. He said the extra cost would be what costed him to buy the lock ($20). He had a spare lock in his car so it was not like he went out to buy a new one. The $20 was fair. However, what did make me question Gary's integrity was what I paid for at the end. The total should have been the 90+20=$110. I'm not sure how I miscalculated this but I asked him "it's $120 right?" To which he replied "mhm." Okay so I paid him $120. I should have paid $110 instead. This is partially my fault for miscalculating, though as a business owner, he should have had more integrity. I could care less about the $10 but the situation really showed his lack of integrity and professionalism. I will give 2 stars since he eventually got me in my home. But wouldn't recommend. read more

We needed a deadbolt and keyed lock replaced on our patio door and another deadbolt lock fixed. The patio deadbolt had to be drilled out. Couldn't be happier. Recently bought a condo and wanted to rekey the locks on the doors. Garry was super quick to respond, both for the initial quote and in subsequent days leading up to the job. It turns out our locks were not only old, but also very cheap quality. Garry suggested some nicer quality locks, did a quick Home Depot run, and got them installed same day. In the middle of the night. I got locked out of my room (i live with others). At first he seems to be polite. I even sent photo by text if he can unlock and he said yes. When he came to my house, and started to try to figure out; He doesnt quiet seem sure what he was doing and keep saying "its 50/50 chance, but I will still charge you". My dad just passed away and there were some issues so I needed to get the locks changed. I sent out a Yelp request for several quotes on a Sunday night and Gary replied right away and said $80/labor. Others didn't reply or wanted a call or wanted pictures. So, I went to my dad's property the next day to take pictures and sent them to the ones who asked. I also sent it to Gary even though he didn't ask for pictures and he replied right away indicated it was still $80/labor therefore I asked him to call me to see if he could come right away because I live far away. He was in Glendora and came to Baldwin Park and it was raining. I explained my situation and said I just wanted the easiest/quickest/cheapest way to change the lock. He suggested simply changing the actual knob/lock and even went to the local Home Depot to purchase it and came back and changed it. The product was $24 and labor $80, it took under two hours and he rounded it down to $100. He didn't charge any extra fees for mileage or going to the store or anything. I highly recommend Gary, he didn't try to upsell or take advantage, wore a mask, and seems to genuinely care. By the way, for the ones I sent pics to, one replied hours later after Gary left with a quote of $295. Another said they didn't do these kinds of things. and the third didn't reply at all. read more
