From the moment we sat down, it was clear this wasn't just dinner -- it was an experience. The bread alone was award-winning quality. The squash harvest soup was absolutely amazing -- rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. It was a five-course meal, and every course delivered. The cheese and cherry ravioli was an incredible sweet-and-savory combination that had me savoring every bite. The roasted duck had unique, complex flavors and was definitely delicious. I also tried a bit of the shrimp -- even though I passed most of it off -- and it was excellent. And dessert? I don't even know exactly what it was, but it was outstanding. What really sets this place apart is the full experience. We were given a tour of the property and learned about the incredible history of the building. Barry, our waiter and tour guide, was absolutely incredible -- attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the restaurant. The private tour and the information he shared made the night even more special. We also had the privilege of meeting the owner and chef, Brondo. Extraordinary!!! This is a great place to go for a special occasion if you want to do something unique. Upon arrival, there was so much to see......mindfully decorated dining areas, amazing furniture & antiques, kitchen spaces, and the back where the gazebo and outdoor seating area was. Our Amazing Host was Barry. He was definitely entertaining. He narrated an awesome tour which elaborated about the history of the restaurant and everything in it. The 5-course meal was fantastic; the portions were definitely great. We started with a beef soup with homemade bread. Then they served a homemade ravioli and meatball. The next course was a large lobster tail and prawn with 1/2 of crab cake. Thankfully, we took a tour before the next course to take a breather. Lol. We were able to choose from five entrée items, and we chose the rack of lamb and the veal osso buco. The dessert was custard cake with a side of fresh whipped cream and custard.... EVERYTHING was delicious!!! We also toured the main kitchen. Chef Brondo was great, and I am certain he is making his late Mother proud. I cannot say enough about this experience!! This was an experience for sure. The food was good. Not the best I have ever had, but good. The decor is an eclectic collection of large salvaged antiques with a very heavy Sicilian touch. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating, the draw back was how long the whole meal was. We were there over 5 hours. We needed to tell the wait staff we would skip the dessert so we could head out. At that point they hustled to get the dessert out to us. I've been to Sicily and this isn't how they do it. If that's the point. Go for the food, but be prepared to wait for...a long time to eat. read more

This was....an experience. Most of the food was very good. We were there for 3.5 hours and only got through 3 courses. It was so long and drawn out. An hour tour of the place which was really odd. Only one other table seated on a Friday night. BYOB which is a pain when it's prix fixe with no menu. I have high standards and am very judgemental (although can keep it to myself when needed...) of establishments having grown up with multiple family members working in kitchens of fine dining establishments. If you claim to be upscale on the food you'd better deliver... Brondo delivered. De-liv-errrred. I took my wife here for an overnight last year for our anniversary, and we will be back again. It's a unique experience. Service was great. The ambience grew on us continually. The food was just flat out amazing. All of it. Recently had an excuse to possibly visit again and the timing just didn't work out with folks from out of town. Spectacular in one word. This was one of the most unique and special dining experiences my wife and I have ever had which made it especially enjoyable. There is no menu, and you discuss what you like along with any food allergies when making the reservation. (Prix fixe). Every course was extremely well done and timed perfectly as it gave us a chance to tour the property, talk with the owner/chef and enjoy the conversation with our server. It was like we were a guest in someone's home (which we actually were:). All the more special as it was our wedding anniversary. First course was a pureed vegetable soup flavored with a root that I can't recall. Followed by a vegetable tower (zuccini, peppers, mushroom, fontina and more) with succulent shrimp. Next up was a ravioli and meatball that was superb...just the right amount of nutmeg to add flavor. Then we shared a filet and veal medallion main course that we actually had to take half of it home as we were stuffed at that point. Did I mention the dinner rolls? Probably why we had no room. The desert was a cassata cake that I forced myself to eat because it was just so good but my wife was wiser as she took hers home to enjoy the next day. Brondo Cavallo, the owner/chef gave us a tour of the mansion, property and kitchen as well. We took pictures with him on his late dad's Model T and in the kitchen. Our server (Nancy) was the best...a Jersey shore girl! Three hours of fun and all we could talk about was bringing friends and family from outside the area when they come to visit. If you like to analyze a menu and are not adventerous, this is probably not the place. I don't think I attended the same location that all of these other five star guests attended. Our whole dinner experience lasted over five hours. The food, was served piping hot, which is a plus. However, portions are to be desired. The overall frustration was the length of time all parties sat in between courses. 4 1/2 hours is an extraordinarily long time. Touring the facilities and admiring antiques from around the world was pleasurable and it did break up time between courses. All in all, we're looking forward to a fabulous dinner extravaganza and we left frustrated, tired and hungry. read more

Yes, it's the Ferrari Club (read that fussy people who know food) and yes, we arrived after a 2 hour rally in the beautiful rolling hills of eastern Pennsylvania so my expectations were set high. However, the decor, professional staff, and more important, the food smashed all expectations. We were greeted by a banquet table filled with perfectly prepared continental selections that included pasta, vegetables, beef (OMG, soooo tender), fresh shrimp, olives, and crispy bread. The folks there said that they are a reservations only restaurant and their menu focuses on fresh - in season - vegetables and carefully prepared beef, fish and poultry. And I believe them because for a buffet, they simply knocked it out of the park. We celebrated our anniversary here in 2012. We were greeted at the entrance and taken to our beautifully dressed table with linens, candleabra, and fresh roses. In the background you hear beautiful Italian music playing The elegance of Cavallo's is that of ecleptic Italian, beautifully designed. Once seated, we were welcomed and our wine glasses were filled. Shortly after, Mrs. Cavallo greeted us and explained briefly the courses and welcomed us to walk the premises between courses. After our first course we were given a tour which included some history of the collections strategically placed throughout, and how Cavallo has evolved over 37 years. Our dinner was a six course meal. For starters we enjoyed a deliciously lite french onion soup with warm breads. Followed by homemade pasta ravioli topped with garden tomato sauce and fresh basil. Next was poached lobster tail and claw with fresh arrugula. Fourth course consisted of roasted vegetables: beets, broccoli rabe, and a beautiful tower of eggplant, tomato, fontina cheese, squash, zucchini, red peppers drizzled with a balsamic fig reduction. Our entrees were poached chilean sea bass and filet mignon, both served with roasted carrot and asparagus. Dessert included choice of cappaccino or espresso and layered pound cake with whipped cream, strawberry compote and lemon curd. The dishes are all beautifully arranged, the food is seasoned to perfection, this is absolutely every bit of a 5 star dining experience and more.. What a disappointment! I visited this place 20 yrs ago with my wife and we never stopped talking about how great it was. Last weekend for a special 50th birthday I brought our good friends to enjoy the experience of a 5 star restaurant ambiance food service etc.. oh was I embarrassed with the quality of the food and service. Save your money and give this place a pass... I do not want to bore you with the details of the 6 course meal just to say for the price I paid this was a major disappointment, I guess the clue was that we were the only people in the restaurant.... Locanda treats her guests like extended family. Until recently there was no sign on the front, as you didn't go there unless you knew where it was. She has a small bed and breakfast if you want to spend the night. Probably the only place in the Lehigh Valley that customers come from New York to dine. No menu, no posted prices , you can't order and there are no posted hours. Locanda makes her meal and chooses the wine pairings, and you will love it. Just send her an e-mail and list your allergies (if any) or religious issues with food. The NY Times glowing review ten years ago said it was $100 per person back then. As of summer 2011 the price was a flat $150 per person inclusive of gratuity and tax. Wine is bring your own. Wow! Loved this place!! The food is homemade by the owner and her son. Its some of the best food We've ever had! We had a delicious wild mushroom soup, delicious fresh pea salad, lobster pasta, Osso buco, and an amazing Apple tart with homemade lemon curd. Everything was absolutely delicious, 5 stars all around! It's an amazing location. I think very beautiful in the spring and summer. We went at tail end of winter so still snow on the ground. Took my family for a very special birthday and we'd all rate it a 10. Brando was cooking for us and every course was exquisite. We arrived at 6:30 and finished after 10. Very leisurely time to spend between courses, though we enjoyed strolling in the gardens, visiting Brando in the kitchen and touring the beautiful home with antiques the family brought from Italy. We began with French Onion Soup, followed by ravioli, seafood medley (scallops and lobster), salad, our entrees were filet - that melted in my mouth, veal, duck and fish. The entrees were all pre-ordered. Topped it off with a chocolate mousse, cappuccino, Grand Mariner soufflé. Then he brought out a birthday cake for us to take home. A very memorable evening. Very unique dining experience! There is no menu, but instead they asked for your food preferences or restrictions when you make your reservation. Then the chef whips up a wonderful multi-course meal for you to enjoy so plan on spending at least 2 hours or more. Prior to your first course, you have the option to take a tour of the restaurant and inn; definitely worth a few minutes of your evening. The restaurant is a BYOB so make sure you bring your favorite bottle (or two) of wine. The service was very personal and attentive which contributed to our enjoyment. The most amazing place to have had the good fortune of finding to have had our wedding! We "stumbled" on this gem by pure chance and from the moment we called to inquire about the possibility of holding our wedding there until the wonderful brunch post-wedding day, we were treated like royalty. Shirley and Brondo go out of their way to make the day truly special and unique to you. The grounds and villa are like something out of a story book - every nook and cranny is filled with eclectic art, collections of beautiful dinnerware, antiques - even an imported Italian cart. The food is beyond spectacular and our guests are still raving over the appetizers, sangria, entrees, and the most beautiful (and delicious) wedding cake! We opted to stay in the inn portion of the villa (each room beautifully decorated in old World charm) with our family on our wedding night and were treated to the sumptuous brunch as well. It may seem expensive but no place could compare to the experience we had - priceless!!!!!!! A year late (June wedding in 2013 - Shirley rearranged her busy schedule to accommodate us on our chosen weekend!) but a much heart felt thank you to Shirley, Brondo, and the entire family!
