First the service was top notch! Our waitress was overly kind and very knowledgeable. She made you feel very welcome. The ambiance was what you would expect for nice outdoor seating in the area. As for the food, the wife and I both had the lobster rolls. She with butter and me the traditional mayo version. They had good flavor but THB (& maybe not so fair) we just came from the keys and had arguably the best lobster rolls we ever tried. So the comparison was greatly lopsided. The reviews for this place were really good, so I was looking forward to getting a lobster roll or a similar filling sandwich at the Lobster Shack. When we arrived, we saw this little stand with a "Cafe sign" on the outside. We were not sure if this was the Lobster Shack or not...there was no one inside, so we walked around and the handwritten menu on the side of the stand was really basic and small...but then I saw on the counter the printed menu that I had seen on the Yelp website and I knew this was in fact the Lobster Shack. As I read the menu, I turned around to a lady who was sitting by one of the picnic tables and I asked her if there was anyone working here...she said... I am. So after seeing us walking around and looking around for a while, she did not say anything until I asked. Stopped in based on raves for lobster rolls. We ordered two. They were tiny in size. Not seasoned at all but they give you dips of tartar sauce, Ketchup, Mustard etc. Way overpriced for what you get. At first we thought we went to the wrong place because there's so much shopping but then we saw some signs and it was near the side of the shops. We ordered the lobster roll and it came with a side of pasta salad or bag of chips. We chose the pasta salad. The roll was quite expensive at $20 before tax and the roll was smaller than I expected. Really wonderful service from Katie! The lobster roll was small but sweet and fresh with not too much mayo. The conch fritters were pretty unique but salty. The cubano was standard and pretty decent. If you're looking for the best homemade key lime pie in all the Keys you must stop by the lobster shack. There are no words to describe how good the pie is, you just have to try it yourself! Really tasty lobster roll with even better pasta salad! Nice small meal to have before you check out the art shops at Rain Barrel. The owner is so lovely! She gave us an extra pasta salad because she noticed we were sharing. She also warned us of "hell week," which is from Christmas to New Years (we are flying home on Christmas day, so we learned we will be avoiding this). It's always so helpful to get advice from the locals. You will need to eat outside on picnic tables so be aware of that in case it is raining (there are some umbrellas). There is a cute sitting area where you can enjoy your meal. Definitely looks like a beautiful backyard shack. The lobster roll- First impression was that it was tiny. It came out on the plate and I couldn't believe that was $17. Next impression, VERY fresh lobster. The lobster itself was absolutely delicious as well as the bread. The only thing was it could probably use some more sauce. The lobster was dry and not how typical lobster rolls are. With that being said.. I enjoyed being able to taste the lobster purely. Staff was helpful and kind of grumpy at first but with some finesse we calmed her down. Food was really tasty. Lobster rolls are served on hotdog style bun not in a wrap. Great stop while in the Florida keys. Came here to finally check it out. I've been coming to the keys for years and wondered about the huge lobster. Apparently her name is Betsy and has been attracting people for years. We took the traditional photo and went on in. Inside they have a small shop with home made items. Everything island life. People are friendly and say hello. They have a cafe on the side that serve refreshments and of course lobster rolls! Can't forget those. Nice stop is you are on the way up or down the keys. I have driven past this shop for years it has a giant lobster outside and promoting a "village of artists" which I chalked it up to being a tourist trap. The menu is small maybe 6/5 items. I ordered the lobster roll with a side of homemade pasta salad (the other option was chips). The seating is outside about 4 tables or so. Great when the temp isn't super hot. The food was great. Very simply done just pure lobster on a warm roll. There is no mayo or sauce on it but they happily provided mayo and hot sauce you just need to ask. The pasta salad was amazing. Not creamy or mayoy at more like a vinegar base. It was soooo good. It was very good day to enjoy in the open air restaurant like during November. The lobster is fresh from the sea. However, it is not from Florida spiny lobster. It is Maine lobster. The preparation is is good with light mayo. The bread is well heated. This dish accompanying with one side which I choose the pasta salad. The total cost including tax is $15 is not bad compared to many place only given lobster roll without any side. Food is good. Not required much service and the wait time is ok. For such a big hype on Yelp I was so disappointed. I give it 2 stars for the cool atmosphere but that's it. I got a Gatorade from the cooler, opened it and drank it. I then noticed there was bird poop all on the side so I asked to get a new one and the lady gave me an attitude saying it was on the outside. When paying with my credit card on her square trade, she said "make sure to leave a tip at the top." I was thrown off because I have never had someone tell me to MAKE SURE to leave a tip. I did leave a tip because I'm a nice person but I later regretted it. She called out orders out and had us come up to the window to get it. Why did I leave a tip? For you to do your job? As for the food, not worth it at all. I have no idea why so many people think the lobster roll is amazing. All it was was plain lobster and lettuce on bread. The bread was actually the best part of the entire meal. I also got the conch fritters, also nothing special what so ever. And the dipping sauce was honey mustard. What? Lol I also asked for some lemon thinking to spice up my lobster roll and give it some flavor and of course she gives an attitude about that and goes to the back and squeezes some lime juice out of a store bought bottle. This place is an absolute gem! The atmosphere/decor is super neat and you feel like you have stepped into a different world. The food is beyond amazing and priced right, too. The lobster roll on the perfectly warmed bread was light and so tasty with the right about of lobster. The potato salad was amazing too!
