The Loard's signage is clearly displayed as well as their products. All these years Loard's has not disputed the signage nor the products sold thereon, signaling it's authenticity. Only 2 tables for eating in. Interior & exterior has been upgraded. Looks brand new. Offerings: ice cream, classic/special sundaes, prepacked ice cream, drinks, cakes made to order. Licks: 3 scoops ice cream in a cup (7.60) -quick service as no patrons present. -chosen scoops had the typical Loard's hallmarks. Ube had slight fruitiness, more sweet than usual. Lemon Chiffon velvety, slight lemonness. Sea salt caramel on the bottom difficult to access beyond the stark saltiness & slight sweetness. *not disappointed. I would've given them a 5 star but the service could be better. The guy charged me 75 cents for an extra little paper cup. The foam bowl he tried to give me for free was too big for my toddler's hands to handle. He also kept running to the back and leaving the front empty. I try to keep my reviews positive and constructive but I'm afraid this time wouldn't be the case . I have been in this location numerous times, I always pick up an ice cream pit and carry on. On Wednesday August 23 I had the most unpleasant experience, not only the place looked filthy and the floor was sticky but I witnessed the worker mistreating and elderly person for NO REASON. There was an asian Male that was waiting to pick up a door dash order, he was in front of me, there was a line and only one server. When the dasher walked to the counter, he didn't talked to the employee and only showed his phone, got served and handed the items , then he bowed to the server as saying "thank you" but during the whole interaction didn't talk to the guy behind the counter who seemed to feel disrespected and started YELLING at the dasher, cursing him, and going off him, in front of kids and other people inside the shop, I don't know what triggered him, we don't know if the dasher was non verbal, had issues, or is struggling with the language, and I don't know what was going through the other guys head but it was pure rage for NO REASON. This behavior is unacceptable, it's ghetto , racist, and out of place, completely unsafe, this is supposed to be a family place, we are in the middle of the day, family with kids come here all the time and the "ice cream man" reacts like that? We all looked at each other stunned and the other family waiting in line attempted to leave but the kid wanted ice cream so bad and decided to stay. We all were puzzled and I drove back home so sad to see how elders are being treated in our community. I was so shocked and couldn't do anything, the dasher left avoiding confrontation, I was alone and figured that was best to cool off, come home and write a review. I will not be supporting this business anymore. And however was on shift on Wednesday august 23 between 4-5 pm, SHAME ON YOU!!! Just Imagine your mom or dad being yelled like that. We love this place, it's my kids favorite ice cream shop. They especially love the ube & cherry ice cream and the rainbow sherbet. It's close to home, quality, and reasonable prices. Service is absolutely friendly, I'm not sure what others are going on about. Yes, there is a liquor store next door... but there's also a popular bakery next door to that, and somehow they don't get knocked in their reviews for being on the other side of the liquor store. This place still sucks overall like it did when I reviewed it the first time 11 years ago. Only now that I've been to the Loard's on Wayne, the disappointment is even more glaring. This location isn't even listed on Loard's website (the Wayne location is), which makes me wonder if this location isn't even associated with the brand anymore (and just continues to use the same name and logo), or if Loard's is so embarrassed by the condition of this location that they'd rather not encourage anyone to go to it. The ice cream is fine. The prices are fine. The location is not so nice. The staff, always the same man, is def not nice or pleasant. We come because it's close and the price is good value. But after our last visit, I'm thinking we won't be back. We prefer the original location. They are not super nice either but at least it feels more safe. Even though it's next to our adored As Kneaded Bakery, it's also next to a liquor store that seems to pull in all kinds of strange folks. The last time I went, a car parked in the middle of the street, 2 men with ski masks for off to buy something inside. Then they pulled across Bancroft and another car followed driving with the driver door open and one door stretched out. This car then kept driving around and around, like scoping or waiting. I love Loard's ice cream, it's yummy. I'm giving one star because they misrepresent your options on DoorDash and Grubhub. Could be an honest mistake, but when I got 1/3 flavors I ordered twice in a row, I called to see why. Apparently they don't actually offer the option to get multiple flavors. I said fine, but you guys need to change your settings in the apps. The guy was super rude and almost yelling at me when trying to tell him I was getting the wrong order. My wife, sister-in-law and I came here to satisfy our sweet tooth's after having rich soup. We've had the ice cream before from other locations so we decided to see how this one would compare. The shop was really quiet, but we were still attended to quickly. My sister-in-law got a black raspberry waffle cone while the wife and I shared a 2 scoop cup of lemon chiffon and cookies n cream. As always, the ice cream was super smooth and delicious. The abundance of flavors that they offer as well as the option to create your own sundae is also very tempting. They also have to go containers with a variety of different flavors as well as the option to order your own ice cream cake with guides on many people ideally the cake should feed. The prices overall are pretty reasonable for the quality ice cream that you get. My main gripe is that there isn't really a parking lot for this location, but if you're around the area and are within walking distance, this place would be ideal. read more

I did enjoy a large single scoop of Java Chip ice cream that was really good and hit the spot perfectly. However, the lady behind the counter acted rather cold. It seemed like she didn't want to be there, which is unfortunate. Loard's typically has really good ice cream and good customer service, but for some reason, this location is lacking. We've been to many of the Loard's Ice Cream parlors, going back decades. Prices are fair, ice cream is generally OK, sometimes fresher, sometimes not. This location, which we visited last night, is not as good as others. The shop smelled bad. We sat at a table and there was an odor of urine. Overall, it was dingy and not clean enough for an eating establishment. If you are coming in and buying prepack ice cream and leaving, you will likely not care. If you are sitting with your adult family to enjoy dessert, you want something nicer than a faded, grungy has-been location. If you have messy little kids, this spot is perfect, as it's simply not pristine to begin with. The lady at the counter does seem unhappy. No greeting at all, no smiles in response to ours, lots of sighing. BTW, they list whipped cream as an ingredient for their sundaes, shakes, etc. What they use is "whipped topping" -- which is utterly gross, cheap, and only has only a scant inclusion of dairy. False advertising. The Loard's off Marina is farther away but far better. read more

This location: The brunette behind the counter looked as she was hating life though there was no one in her stuffy store. No hello, no what can I get for you, no words at all. My little one chose strawberry and I chose burgundy cherry. Apparently, five seconds was too long to make our choices because my daughter reports that she rolled her eyes at us. It upsets me that she was chatty and smiling with the older white woman who entered after we left. Shame on her! It's SL 2015, not the San Leandro of 1971. I have been going to this location for five years now. It isn't as busy as some locations and that might be partially due to it not being in a high foot traffic area. That said, it works a little bit in our favor as there isn't a long wait for service. Have never had what some have said is possibly old ice cream. Have always been greeted with a smile, maybe because I am smiling as I am coming through the door in eager anticipation of one of my favorite sundae options. They have multiple recipes listed in the board, but you can always create your own. They don't ask you what you want as soon as they see you. They give you time to ponder the options. I like this. After a trip to the Oakland Zoo we wanted to treat the kids to Ice Cream. Looked up Yelp for the best choice that was close by right on the Oakland San Leandro border and Loard's came up. Building is a cute brick 1940s era building with big windows. Shop is definitely dated with sun faded menu and ice cream names hand scrawled on display case and wall. Feels like a run down Baskin & Robbins, but because it is in a cute neighborhood setting you feel that you gotta support the local businesses. Young happa gal at the counter was cheerful enough, but watch that you don't get charged $3.95 for a DOUBLE, when all you got was a single that should have rung up for $2.50. To make matters worse the next young couple that came in with the wife being very prego was charged a quarter for tap water served in a ice cream cup. Have a heart - the hubby said my wife isn't feeling well and needs a cup of water. They tacked on the price to the ice cream order without telling them and tried hiding it by not giving a receipt. WTF? I know times are tough, but making customers feel cheated is no way to stay in biz. Have a heart for people in need and a brain for good business sense to treat customers better. read more

my family and i have been coming here for as long as i can remember and have been a local favorite for many years. they use fresh ingredients that you can certainly taste... particularly in our all time favorite "mango" flavor. i don't recall my parents freezer not ever having a half gallon container stored. now, we take the grand kids and they are hooked! i took my little niece for a visit a few days ago and were very excited of their new "ube" flavor. i had to try! oooh it was sooo good! it was rich in flavor and very creamy. i like it a lot better than the asian store bought ube flavor. the place is tiny but cozy with friendly staff. they have recently opened a new branch at the greenhouse plaza in san leandro that i will absolutely visit soon. read more

I also like buying their pre packed ice cream here and also their ice cream floats. Price: Still cheaper than many other ice cream places. Location: Located near the Marina Shopping outlets, parking is always available in their lot. Service: Has changed over the years but usually we are greeted and helped right away. This little ice cream shop has so much potential to be a gem in the Broadmoor neighborhood, but when you walk in there's an eerie quiet and an empty shop. The person who works there is probably in the back. The last time we were there he came out coughing. The ice cream we ordered had chunks of ice in it like it's been sitting around too long open to freezer bite. There's so much potential here to turn this place around. Hopefully they'll invest some love and elbow grease to turn it around. I'd be willing to chip in some time if they need it. Loard's has multiple ice cream shops in the area but this location isn't getting the love! Here are some ideas for the owner: 1. Clean the place up. Mop, clean walls, tidy up the shop. Get rid of old crummy displays, boxes, anything run down looking or broken in the shop. Create an inviting space that smells nice for people to enjoy. Waffle cones smell amazing! Make people want to come in! 2. Do an inventory on the ice cream and cycle out the older flavors that have been out too long. 3. Check with the city on putting outside seating on the sidewalk out front. Possibly w/ cute umbrellas for shade. 4. If the above won't work, check with the city about setting up some seating in the park across the street. 5. Put on some music! Play fun stuff. I can give you a playlist. Jazz, soul, reggae, anything that will give the place a vibe! 6. Hire staff that loves ice cream and loves people. Friendly staff that are passionate about your product will go a long way when people come in. Remember, you're selling ice cream! That's like selling happiness! 7. Love San Leandro! Get involved in the community! Kids cones are free on Tuesdays, something that will bring in the neighbors. If you get the neighborhood to support you then that's the first step. 8. This is the worst ice cream shop i have ever been to. I ordered a milkshake with coffee ice cream. What i got was what seemed lime flavored milk. The consistency of the milkshake was a tad thicker than milk. If i would have tasted it (rather than trusting someone who works in an ice cream shop) before i left i would have never taken it or paid for it. The shop itself had a funny odor. This review is from a 3/5/15 visit that was mistakenly posted for the MacArthur location: I finally caught this spot open on one of my treat days. The location is perfect (right off MacArthur and close to a grassy seating area). It's not much on decor, but they make up for it with an expansive menu with lots of interesting flavors. The prices are reasonable and the scoops are a nice size. I visited twice in 3 days (yeah, it was a BIG treat weekend). Both times I ordered pralines and cream on a sugar cone. To me, ice cream is of good quality when it starts to melt quickly and has a creamy, not icy, texture--Loard's passed the Felicia test. I'm looking forward to visiting more during the summer when I don't feel like traveling to and waiting in line at Fenton's. read more
