My nails were not done correctly. Just after 3 hours of my manicure, the nail polish was sloghing off or folding over. I did not engage in any heavy work to cause this problem, as I spent 3 hours typing before emptying my dishwasher and noticing my nails looked awful. I called for a refund, and they have a no-refund policy. They offered to re-apply the polish, but I have no time before the event for which I dolled up my nails. I've been looking around for a new nail salon, tried a few places, and I have found a hidden gem in Liz's Nails! Tucked away in a strip mall in Green Trails, it's small but nice, didn't reek of nail polish remover, and they could take a walk-in. The real reason I have been looking for a new salon is that I've had problems at several places when the tech is removing the powder dip with the drill, they have had it up so high that it had started to burn and cause me pain. Even when I have expressed this, the attitude was like, well, deal with it. Now, I do have a health condition that causes chronic pain so some of this may be a me thing, but I can't be the only person experiencing this. At Liz's, Fiona began by doing the same thing but when I initially had a bit of the burning sensation and explained to her what the problem was, she slowed down the speed of the drill and just took off the surface level of the dip (some techs at other places have tried to grind all the way down to the nail), then soaked the rest of with nail polish remover. I really appreciated her listening to me and working with me so I didn't experience excess pain! There were lots of colors to choose from and the manicure looks lovely. She said they also can do chrome, designs, etc. On a weekday it was not too busy, though a few customers were in for various services, and staff seemed to know everyone by name who came in. I called this morning and was able to get in right away for a dip powder manicure. I am new to getting my nails done let alone dip powder. I have had dip once before and my nail technician, Henna, took that off quickly and efficiently. Not only that, but my nails had grown long enough to finally not need tips. I picked the colors and then Henna took care of the rest. She was careful with every step she took. I am so surprised that my natural nails (that have never grown due to being brittle and weak) look fantastic. Henna was so nice and understanding in everything she did. This was $70!! I've never felt more ripped off and belittled in my life, I walked in and asked for a full set with no chip, owner started working on my nails and went straight to putting the base coat, I didn't want to assume anything so I asked if there's a new technique, she said "you want no chip" in which I replied yes with a full set, she looks over to her husband who was at the front desk and started speaking in their language, I turned to him to say again what I asked for, he ignores me and go back to talking to her in their native language. Clearly the owner was very upset that her husband didn't hear me and communicated the info well to her and then she proceeded to tell me that she's the ONLY one that does acrylic and she has an appointment coming up in 10 minutes. From the kindness of my heart, I offered that she can pause when her scheduled appointment arrives and get back to me when she's done with them. She didn't say anything and proceeded to give me one of the harshest sets I've ever had, she cut almost all of my cuticles with her drilling tool, it was so painful, I tried to stay calm and get through the situation as quickly as possible because I felt so mistreated and what was suppose to be a treat for me turned into something far worse. At the end I thanked her and went to pay, I expected to pay anywhere between 45-55 as that's the usual cost nowadays, only to have them charge me $70 without tip! When I asked why the up-charge I didn't get a clear response. Now here I am 2 weeks after and almost every nail has chipped! My thumb started chipping the first week. Now I'm started to realize why more girls are starting to do their own nails bec this is absolutely outrageous and disgusting! read more

I went in for a dip powder *manicure.* My cuticles actually bled because she didn't soak them and push them back. I went in for a dip powder manicure. My nails *look* great! At least on the surface, as she didn't clean underneath them (and aside from the part that is bleeding!) She seemed surprised I even wanted them cut...it's part of a manicure! I'm disappointed that i can't find a nail tech that actually gives a manicure before a dip application. It's not a cheap procedure; I expect an actual manicure, and not to end up bleeding. read more

I have been going to Fiona for a couple of years now. She did a great job in the beginning. My last several visits I have been less than pleased. Speed seems to be the goal. Between the tv, the piped in music and the extra employee watching loud videos on her phone, it is anything but relaxing. If you zoom in on the attached photos, you will see all of the grooves on my nails. Recently when the owner was out of town, I was charged an additional $5 to shorten my nails. This was my first visit and they have been under new ownership for 3 weeks. I had a Deluxe Pedicure ($35). The salon appears to be undergoing some renovations and improvements. Everything appears clean and sanitary. The staff were friendly and service was excellent. My pedicure took 45 minutes, including a very thorough massage. Best dip manicure I've ever had. My nails are absolutely gorgeous, the technician was friendly and listen to what I wanted. I had broken two of my natural nails and she offered to put some tips on them until they grow out so that my nails all matched. They look amazing a week after the manicure. Worst nail salon I've ever been too. I walked in on a Sunday and asked for a full set no chip.. Pretty standard and basic nail service The technician who did my nails forgot a step. I have been getting my Nails done for about 10 years so I told her she missed a step and continued to argue with me. She was ready to paint the nails and I explained that painting them wouldn't make them look better and once they went under UV the nail would need to be fully redone. She continued to paint all of them regardless of addressing her missed step in the process. After my botched nails were painted she took a nail file to file them!! Diamond shaped mirror arrangements, nail airbrushing, those funny smoky hand pics of women with acrylics playing the saxophone or holding strawberries, and a couch with what looks like black-light sensitive fabric. Welcome to the 80s! As dated looking as this place may be, they did a fantastic job on my digits and were super nice to boot. Liz's nails is tucked away in a strip mall that lives next to my now favorite Tailor, Lorenzo's, and the nearest bar to my house wear you can throw peanut shells on the ground... so yeah, it's a hip and happening spot. the shop is on the small size but they have a lot of employees so I've never had to wait for even a minute. They've got a decent color selection and even though I know airbrushing is out and hand painting is in, I had to take advantage of one of the only suburban nail salons in the last decade to offer it. I got a chubby owl on my right ring finger and a lot of compliments to go with it. My pedicure was fantastic and my gel nails got some of the best shaping to date- and their prices on gel fills are the best around. Besides the decor, the place is defo 5 star worthy as far as work goes and it appears that's no secret either as many of the women who come in when I'm there are on a first name basis with the nail techs and enjoy keeping them up to date with the goings on of their life. My first visit here in my quest to find a replacement pedicure salon. It is smaller than some of the salons that I have been to, only 4 pedicure chairs. That's a plus. It was bright and sunny and the TV was not blasting with Hoda and Kathie Lee, that's another plus. However, the overpowering scent of the incense was just too much. Put it in the back and away from the customers so that it is faint. I was happy to pay for a basic pedicure and not get charged for services I did not receive; i.e. massage, hot lotion, polish removal, polish application. The chair was not the most comfortable, the foot rest was not padded, but it was okay, not bad, not extremely good, just okay. My quest continues. read more

I have been coming to Liz's nails since I was in 6th grade. Liz recognizes me (even moreso when I'm with my mom, haha) and I love having "my nail place" to go to when I'm home. Wendy is always the one that does my nails. It's usually on and off, but this last and most recent time I visited, I received the absolute BEST leg and foot massage from her. Seriously, it lasted for like, 10 minutes. It was awesome. I sometimes think that they can go a little lower toward your nail bed when painting your no-chip manicure on, and I'm always suspicious that they do that just to get you back in earlier. (Can't blame them, I suppose.) That's why I always stick with the french manicure - plus, it's my favorite look. These women here are always friendly, sweet, and most are pretty easy to understand. I will never go to another nail shop again! There are several nail shops closer to where I live but I always drive further to come here with my daughter! I always loved the place but they recently came under new ownership and I love it even more! Top notch service and I feel like I left a spa leaving here! I love how well she shapes my nails and how much attention they place on everything! They even ask about my daughter whenever she doesn't come, so sweet! Lina is no longer the owner and it shows. I have been a regular customer at this salon for many years. Since Lina left, the staff has changed dramatically. Some of the staff is gone, their choice, or Susan's? Vietnamese is spoken much more often, the TV is usually on. Neither of these makes it relaxing. The service is spotty even if you have an appointment, you sometimes wait. I no longer even bother to make an appointment. Suddenly my nails are unable to grow out. I am not doing anything differently. Perhaps, Lina put something on my nails to help them to grow? If so, that step is missing. Even though I have been going weekly, they never have to cut them, just shape them. This seems strange. This salon is clean & Lina remodeled last year before she sold it to her friend Susan. The rest of the staff tries hard, most of the time. BTW, Susan really hurt my toes when I gave her a chance to do my pedicure last year. It caused me pain for over a week! The owner, Lina is very friendly and nice along with the other employees. They also have a huge choice of OPI nail polishes to choose from along with massage chairs during the pedi.
