I had some time to kill before my midwife appointment so I stopped in for a smoothie! Looking over the menue I realized there was lots of goodies, with ingredients I love. It was hard to narrow down on something! I figured I would go for a smoothie, and asked the woman at the counter if there was any favorites of her. She gladly walked me through some and I settled on the blueberry smoothie (with lime, almond butter, and cinnamon). I was skeptical, as I've never had a berry smoothie mixed with a nut butter and skeptical about the nut butter and lime in general. I was open to try and glad I did because it was DELICIOUS! Most often ordering smoothies from places, they tend to be mediocre, but this was one of the best I've had! You could tell the quality was there and not skimp on the fruit. I could also tell they were fresh blueberries, and not those typical frozen "eh" blueberries found in smoothies. I even tried replicating it at home today- and just couldn't find the sweet spot that Liza's did so well! Other things to add - The size was good too, and satisfied me quite well. Not always do I want to settle for a near 9 dollar smoothie, but I left not thinking twice on what I spent- worth it! This mama-to-be, had a brightened day thanks to Liza's and happily made her way to her appointment. Having sampled açaí bowls all over the Capital District, I can enthusiastically endorse Liza's as the BEST! When you indulge in a Liza bowl you know you are getting the best ingredients. You can't be so sure at the other bowls establishments. Liza's açaí is the most flavorful and has the best texture. It's a deep purple, unlike other places where it's light pink and looks/tastes like a melted popsicle. As if the açaí weren't enough, let's discuss the toppings, shall we? The fruit is fresh, the coconut is perfectly shredded, and the topping choices are abundant. Her granolas are all made from the finest ingredients and span anyone's tastes. More plain granola you prefer? She has it. Chunkier and more nutty? Yup, she has that too, along with everything in between. If you're at a loss as to what to choose, just ask! The staff is nicer than most and will never give you attitude (unlike another açaí bowl place that shall remain nameless). They will be happy to guide you through your selections, and are very knowledgeable about the ingredients. As for additional toppings, there is everything from bee pollen (don't worry allergy sufferers, you'll be ok with it) to goji berries to cacao nibs, and that's just a few. After receiving your bowl in a very timely manner, trust me, you will not be disappointed! To make things even more exciting, her bowls start at 9 dollars and change; many in our area are upwards of 11.00 to start. Lizas is great !!! Its delicious, its healthy, its very enjoyable just to be in there. The prices might seem high but I simply think that is because it is so unique to the area people have nothing to compare it to (except maybe Raw). This is simply how much these things costs. I once had an acai bowl on vacation that was 28 dollars !!! So 14-16 dollars is okay to me. I felt the need to address that because of some reviews I saw that seem totally unfair! I will say I am hoping they begin to offer more savory food options because right now the bulk of their menu is on opposite side of flavors. I would love to see more full size meal options ! Liza's is one of the few places where you can find açaí bowls in the Capital Region of Upstate New York. This, in and of itself, is a treasure. While I'm not quite sold on açaí being the magic bullet "for all that ails you" (not a claim made by Liza's), as it is often marketed, it's a refreshing, sorbet-like treat that mixes well with wholesome toppings and provides better nutrition than many other frozen treats. But I digress... The ambience at Liza's is fairly pleasant. The decor is modern and appealing. The employees are happy, friendly, and even willing to help you navigate your menu options. It's clear that they have a passion for their product, which is a refreshing change from many other dining venues. So, why the 3-Star review, you ask? First off, the açaí bowls were quite pricey. My girlfriend and I got two açaí bowls with a few toppings, each. The bill was well over $24.00 *before* the tip. I understand that açaí, which is currently in vogue as a health fad, is often quite overpriced - and for that, there will be a premium. In fact, I would not have minded the price paid, if it were not for this other thing... There's no way to get around this... They seriously skimped on the toppings. I ordered my bowl with granola, peanut butter, raw honey, and cacao nibs; my date got something similar. Both bowls were served with a paper thin layer of toppings. Just a few small bites into my dish (I'm a fairly slow eater), the toppings were completely gone. When I politely asked an employee for some extra peanut butter - after showing her the small amount I initially received - I was literally given a drizzle of some very oily peanut butter. Again, my issue is not necessarily with the price; it's about the value. I'd gladly pay the same price all over again for a bowl that had a sufficient amount of toppings. The cost of doing so for Liza's would be negligible, but would add significant value to their product. Also, on a side note, their restaurant seems to get very warm during the summer. This is something of an annoyance during the summer time, given that this is a place that features frozen treats. There was a single air conditioner running by the entrance, valiantly (though unsuccessfully) trying to keep everyone cool. Hopefully, they won't have the opposite issue during the winter... At the end of the day, Liza's is a nice little place. Their food is actually quite good, but underperforms in terms of value - it should be noted, however, that this is an easily-fixable issue. I've been twice, and have basically had the same experience both times. I'm going to give it another shot in the future, as I'm willing to accept that I may have caught them on two separate off-days. read more

Good and bad... I received a bowl from my sister one day and absolutely loved it! I'm chronically ill and, for a short time, it made me feel a little better. First visit - The following Monday I convinced my coworker to take a ride to the Troy location to try it again. It was a cute place but had the feeling of the Seinfeld episode with the Soup Nazi. I wasn't sure how to order what I wanted and thought I'd be thrown out for not getting it quick enough. lol The girl at the register seemed rushed, not so much rude. She had to change her tune a bit when she had to tell everyone that they ran out of strawberries for topping and offer substitutions. The bowls were very good when we brought them back to the office. I ordered a coffee that was also very good. I'd say that was my best visit. My second visit was in Schenectady the following weekend. The place is beautiful! However, there aren't many places to sit for the large size. I walked in and ordered my acai bowl. The blond girl at the counter was smiley and patient and didn't mind explaining things. I ordered an acai bowl with extra toppings, a coffee and every snack ball they had. There was a woman and child behind me in line and they ordered next. I sat at the coffee bar waiting for my coffee and they did everything they could to get the acai bowls out in a timely manner... for the people who ordered after me. Mine however, took about a half hour and I sat at the coffee bar just waiting. Luckily the Barista was very sweet and kept making small talk. I watch where the bowls were made previously and kept waiting for someone to make mine. Finally a girl came out with my bowl after I was finished with my coffee and she did not wear gloves when making my bowl. Because of my condition I was a little irritated at that. The extra's that I ordered weren't there when I got home so I was a little annoyed about having to wait and paying for extra's that I didn't receive. Third (and last) visit was in Schenectady the following weekend. A group of girls walked in after me. They clearly knew the friendly girl and the owner. Although I was there first, the group of girls was called up to give their orders ahead of us. OK! So, I waited with my company and Liza (who I didn't know was Liza at the time) said she'd help us at the other register. I let her know that I was in last week and ordered extra's that I didn't receive and asked that she make sure they're added this time. Instead of apologizing, she told me that the extras are located on the bottom. Well, the location of where they should have been doesn't change the fact that they weren't there. And instead of saying - "hey, sorry about that, your extras are on us today...", she looked annoyed and was short with us in a "hurry the hell up" kind of way. My guest and I ate in and sat near the group of friends who kept telling Liza how great everything was. (Hence how I knew who she was) My guest got a scramble that took forever. We ate and immediately left. My guest said she would never go back even though the food was decent. On our way out we were told to have a nice day by pretty much every employee. In closing, the food is good. The coffee is decent. Every item is about $2 overpriced. The service by the barista in Schenectady and the taller blond girl was good and they were very pleasant. However, knowing that it was the owner herself who didn't acknowledge/apologize or even care to hear about a small complication in a past experience just blows my mind. I was just talking about the food, not the other stuff. And to feel like an insignificant customer 2 out of 3 times... I'm not going back. At least everyone was treated the same when I went to the Troy location. No favoritism there. I'll give my business to someone who wants it. It's a shame, because I could have spent a lot of money here. read more

One of my FAVORITE places!! The açaí bowl is without a doubt a must have, but everything else i have tried too (smoothies, pancakes, egg scramble bowl) have been UNBELIEVABLY good. I loved the açai bowl here! I also liked the mocha truffles. I would love to try their teas some time, they seem to have really good options. The workers were very friendly and helped us out in every way. The atmosphere was absolutely lovely and very aesthetic. I came here the other day from the farmers market and got a smoothie bowl (the berry one) with peanut butter. I loved it! The in house granola was delicious and the scoop of pb was hefty in the best way possible. It took a while for my food(it was pretty empty) but everything was fresh and carefully placed. My friend got she "just peachy" smoothie and didn't love it. It was warm when she got it and grainy. I didn't try it so I can't speak to much on this. Overall, it does seem their strength is their smoothie bowls, which are definitely worth the trip. Just be ready for a little wait, and maybe stick to the fruitier smoothies. read more

I LOVE the idea of this place and REALLY tried to like it. I followed them on Instagram and came here three times to try something new each time. The first two times I tried smoothies. The first was completely inedible. I wasn't able to finish even half of it. The second was better, but had chunks of dates floating around in it- not appetizing and it didn't need to be sweetened in the first place. The third thing I had was an Acai bowl. The Acai bowl was watery, wasn't pure Acai, and didn't even have fruit on top besides bananas. Someone mentioned in another review that it seems like they are scared of fruit and that is so ACCURATE. The lack of fruit was an issue with all three things I ordered. Either they've never been to another Juice Bar before or they are seriously trying to skimp on ingredients and rake in the profits. My guess is it's the latter. As a vegan, I liked that they marketed to vegans and vegetarians and, unlike one of the commenters below, I very much appreciate that they don't serve dairy. However, the final straw for me was when they highlighted a leather artist on their instagram page. When many of your customers/followers are vegan or just trying to cut animal products out of their lives in general, it feels very off-brand to be promoting leather. read more

I was excited to hear about a place close to my house were I could get an acai bowl, usually I make my own! I stopped there this morning while I was running errands and I was not impressed. The acai blend it self was mostly liquid, and the acai was overpowered by the taste of orange juice and a large amount of shredded coconut that was added as a topping. The toppings were underwhelming as well, why put Kiwi as a topping if you are not going to remove the skin?! The employee did not wash her hands or wear gloves and she was not very friendly or welcoming. I started working around the corner from Liza's recently, and today I was lucky enough to try my very first smoothie from there! I got the Green Machine. It was packed with spinach, zucchini, almond butter, blueberries, and vanilla plant protein. As someone who struggles to eat enough greens, I was ecstatic that I had something that tasted delicious and healthy at the same time. An added plus? The place is super cute. What horrible customer service.. sooo disappointing. I ordered and paid for the avocado egg dish with scrambled eggs. What arrived was a chopped up fried egg inside of a black avocado. I complained to the server who said she'd talk to the owner. The owner never approached nor apologized. Before leaving I asked for a solution to the poor meal I was served and didn't eat.. Hello?? Shouldn't a solution be offered to me? Where's an apology or even acknowledgement that a customer is not satisfied?? NOTHING- not even eye contact from the owner herself. I had heard she never admits wrong nor seems to appreciate her customers .. now I am convinced that is the case. Liza has A LOT to learn. I have been hooked on it ever since! Liza prepares everything with so much care, every ingredient is calculated to give you an amazing experience. I've been here a few times. The food is tasty, but I feel like my bowl is different every time I order and I always order the exact same thing. I've also noticed that the owner is sometimes preoccupied and does not greet customers. I was overlooked recently and stood there with another gentleman for a while before my order was taken. Order was taken, no greeting happened and the owner continued to have a conversation with someone inquiring about a job. Not to mention, it was clearly the gentleman's first time there and she was incredibly short with him and barely even explained how to order. I walked in and asked for the acai bowl. The woman started making it and as I went to get my money out I realized the price hadn't been posted on the sign. I figured it'd be about $8 as most places that sell acai bowls sell them for said price. I asked the woman how much and she said $14.50. I thought this was ridiculous. She had already started putting the ingredients in the cups for me to cancel my order. I believe the customer should pay before making the bowl to be aware of this price or the price should be listed. I noticed the prices were listed for everything else and so I found it odd there wasn't a stated price for the bowls. Not only was it very pricey but I was dissatisfied. For a $14 bowl I should be getting more fruit. I also noticed the worker wasn't wearing gloves yet was touching the fruit and money without having washed her hands. While passing through Troy on the way to the train, I was looking for a spot for a quick healthy meal. As someone who eats organic and paleo, I was looking for a place that served gluten free and truly healthy food. I found Liza's on Yelp and checked out the menu online - it looked awesome. We placed a pickup order and it was ready as soon as we arrived a few minutes later. The decor is very fresh looking and trendy. The two women working at the front were super friendly! The menu is incredibly impressive - great sourcing, paleo granolas with superfoods, toast literally made of sweet potatoes, tons of smoothies but also paleo friendly heartier items. My boyfriend and I each enjoyed the scramble, which was SUPER filling. I love how they have 32 oz açaí bowls - it was delicious. A great spot with an extensive menu including matcha and bulletproof coffee. Perfect for everyone who cares about fueling their body with the best food!! read more
