The ladies at Living Colors Nails are all great! I am always satisfied and happy after leaving. Their prices are on par and just right in my opinion. I love their attention to detail! Nothing irritates me more than when the details are ignored on my manicure or pedicure. Sometimes it can be busy here. I usually walk in, but have made an appointment before as well. I think they are worth the wait even when it is busy. They do pretty much anything as far as nails plus other services as well. I recently moved to South Austin from Hyde Park. I had been going to Luxe Nails on Burnet for 5 years. After trying two other local nail salons, I walked in to Living Color. They were able to immediately take me, they greeted me promptly and had a nice color selection of gel colors. They also offered me a drink of choice as soon as I sat down. Most importantly, the space is clean and well kept. The mani / pedi was was efficient (no sitting around waiting for someone). The message was strong and lasted a full 10 minutes. The paint job was an 85% - really nicely done but some blemishes were visible upon closer inspection. I'll definitely be back and this will be my new nail salon. I'll watch for small mistakes in my manicure and will be sure to point them out while there, as I'm sure they'll gladly correct any imperfections. They are so nice! read more

The ladies here are great, I had the best massage I've ever had during a pedicure so I will definitely be back! Update!! It's been about a week and my left big toe seems to have grown a FUNGUS on it. They reuse the toe separators, don't sterilize equipment, and put 'dirty' brushes right back into 'clean' brushes without cleaning. I have witnessed this all 1st hand. The lady who works at the front is unprofessional and rude. Every time I come they mess up my nails. If you call for an appt, they don't write it down. Before covid, I loved going to Living Color Nails. Great location for me and I've always had a good experience. Today's visit was not the case. There were 7 people waiting, and only 3 people working. They were doing their best to accommodate everyone, however, everything was very rushed. I paid for the deluxe pedicure but did not receive the 10 minute massage, or paraffin wax treatment. I also informed her that I recently broke my ankle and to please be careful, no twisting or rough handling my ankle. Seems like she went even harder on my ankle. I also wanted to get my eyebrows done- BIG. MISTAKE. The lady never once asked me how I wanted them done, and immediately started putting the wax on before I could explain. I figured, "okay, she knows what she's doing". Partly my fault for not clarifying, however, one eyebrow was halfway gone by the time she finished and she claimed I said I wanted them thin, which I NEVER said. In addition, the place was filthy. Dust, hair and dirt everywhere. It looked like surfaces hadn't been wiped down in MONTHS. Unacceptable during COVID-19 times. This is my neighborhood salon and I wanted to start going back here rather than driving to a more expensive salon farther away that I also like and is extremely clean. I have enjoyed my mani/pedis at this place the last few years, but with the dramatic drop in quality I'll not be returning. Had an appointment last week and ended up leaving halfway through. Not only was the small salon crowded, they appeared to be giving Covid19 precautions only perfunctory due, not enforcing mask wearing (some patrons/employees were, but others not) nor sanitizing nor distancing, nor all employees wearing gloves. With the salon busy, and acrylic fumes indicating no good air filters either, employees see-sawed back and forth between clients (another bad practice). On top of all that after an hour and a half my pedi was only half finished, toenails not yet painted, and manicure not even STARTED! I've had better manicures, they're very gentle but not quick. Terrible first experience however I came in and got my nails taken off and re-done this is why I gave 2 stars. I came in with my mom to get an SNS manicure, which ended up taking TWO hours. While my mother got her shellac manicure and pedi I still was not done with my single manicure. The girl who attended me barely spoke English. I asked her for almond shaped nails and she gave me round, but I settled. Come to find out after taking TWO hours to do my nails she had not properly glued the tips correctly so there was moisture inside the nails as well as food immediately after going home. She also did a terrible job filing them down and shaping them. They were lumpy looking and crooked. I came in a couple days later and some other girl fixed them for free. However the first girl who did them mockingly came to my chair to say "honey why you here?" and I ignored her because I could barely understand her... she left mockingly laughing for around 5 mins so loudly and it was so rude. Heads up, this is going to be kind of long because...stories. I'd been wanting to get a mani/pedi but was not familiar with any salons in my area. I read through several reviews, knowing I wanted to try out gel nails (more on that later**), and found Living Colors was not too far away and seemed to offer good options - plus great comments on their massages. So on Saturday 3/18 I called ahead to make sure they could fit me in and scheduled an appointment for about 20 minutes later. I basically went straight over there and walked into a semi-busy salon with someone asking me what I was there for - I explained - there was zero recollection from anyone there about me calling just before that. Needless to say I started out a bit frustrated. There were also several ladies (regulars?) that were quite loud and noisy the ENTIRE time...while I was trying to relax. Fast forward and I'm actually quite enjoying the pedicure and then on to the manicure (though I had to keep repeating what I was there for - they asked multiple times). Overall it was a good experience during the actual mani/pedi treatment and the outcome was what I'd hoped for (french gel manicure and pedicure with regular nail color) with the exception that it was a bit pricier than expected based on past (better) experiences and lesser prices. Until I got into my car and realized one of my nails (pointer finger nonetheless) had been every so slightly torn - but I had to leave due to another obligation. It got SO MUCH WORSE over the next week; it kept tearing more and more to the point where I was constantly wearing band-aids in an attempt to keep it from tearing worse. I even tried super glue. That only helped so much. I contacted them via Yelp messages and received a response to come in so they could try to fix it. -- The day I walked in was even busier than the first time! They looked at me, I explained (again ZERO recollection of my Yelp messages to the business), and asked if I could come back later. I couldn't. So I dealt with the torn nail until it finally tore off and enough had grown a little so it wasn't painful. In the end, not a bad pedicure & manicure, but the service certainly could have been better. Probably not my top choice the next time around. ** Regarding gel nails: They look great. They do not treat your nails well. Things I wish I'd known beforehand, but didn't do my research. So gel is pretty harsh on your nails and does not come off easily (it kind of pulls off stripping the nail). read more

I wanted a coffin shape and this mess is shaped like a fat pencil lead or different styles of what's suppose to be a coffin nail shape. Then she didn't even paint the tip of my nails. On top of this, she was very rough and aggressive with my hands and had the audacity to tell me "can you tell me what you want the first time (which I did over and over again) I have another person waiting on me". First of all I had an appointment and during MY appointment you're going to do what I want in the time that it takes YOU to do it. Lastly, she charged me $60 dollars for a full set. It's usually $40 at most for a full gel set and since I got chrome it's an extra $10. I do not understand where the additional $10 is coming into play? Honestly if the customer service was better and she did my nails correctly I wouldn't have mind paying $60 and giving a nice tip on top of that, but for this?!! No! I feel robbed for some crappy service. Anywho, I get to my car and I'm looking at my nails and was like "I'm not about to drive off from paying $60 and I'm not satisfied with the quality of my nails!" So lovely and under new management since I first discovered the best massage chairs in town on Easter Sunday (see my review for Pro 2 Nail for that day!) Once again treated to the Queen treatment with the fabulous massage chair and more foot and calf massage than anywhere else I have been! The attention to detail shows in everything they do :) Christy was super welcoming. The new manager was friendly but not overly so. Make sure you upgrade the pedicure to include the gel massage!
