Horrible customer service! I went in to this shop because I live in Downey and like to support my local small businesses. Not sure if it was too early for patrons to enter, 10:30am, but the person behind the counter was unapproachable. It saddens me to have local businesses on a major Downey thoroughfare be inhospitable to clients. I don't believe the photos I saw on Yelp of people in this shop. It might be relatives or acquaintances of the business owner to strum clientele. Note to the business owner: if this is how your employees continue to receive Downey clients, best move is to replace current employees with warm and receiving people. Otherwise, relinquish your shop and move your business elsewhere. I will make sure I bring this issue to the next Downey City Council meeting and speak on the horrible customer service experience. read more

I really need to get this off my chest because it's been bothering me ever since. A couple months ago, I took my bike in to have the pedals swapped out with a new pair that I had with me. Took him just a minute, charged me $5, but when I asked for the box back, the dude tried to encourage me to forget about it. I wanted it back because the pedal studs were still in a small bag in there, so I made him go over and get it, but when he did, he left that little bag on the counter! And this was a counter out of my reach as well. I said, Hey, I need that bag, go get it. He acted like he didn't know what I was talking about, but he is the one who took them out! I am CONVINCED he tried to pull a fast one on me and steal those studs. I will never go back and I am tempted to report the business owner to the city. I used to come here because it was close to my place in Downey and I would have a nice experience with Carlos until I noticed anytime I would leave, my bike still didn't feel right or it would feel weird and he would tell me that I didn't need a tune up. He started contacting me from the Live 4 Bikes Instagram handle, sliding in my DMs and commenting on my pictures on my Instagram page. I overall started feeling uncomfortable going in there so I went elsewhere, where the manager of the shop told me that I had major work that needed on my bike, including a major tuneup. I had the Long Beach marathon the following day and I wouldn't have time to do all the work he needed to get done on my bike so I had to wait until after the marathon. After all of this, I never expressed interest in Carlos but he took upon himself to find me on his personal Instagram handle and DM me from there as well. I never would reply but I simply couldn't stand anymore with him sliding in my DMs or commenting on my posts to get my attention so I finally replied back to leave me alone and that I'm not interested. He didn't reply and looks like he blocked me but I want to prevent anyone being creeped on or not get their biked fixed/adjusted properly. I simply went into this place for a service and it was close to my place. Men that try to pick up women when they simply are coming there to get a service done is a different level of creeping and I'm sure this has worked for him before. read more

I went in to get a tune up. Carlos offered a warm greeting and was professional as he answered all my questions. My bike was serviced with a full tune up, new breaks, new chain, and 3 spokes were replaced. All this for under $100. Another bike shop I called for pricing quoted me at $129 for just a tune up. The service was great. I took my bike in for a full tune up. Turn around time was fast. And service was friendly. The location is perfect because you can walk just a few buildings down and have a drink or get some lunch while your bike gets serviced. Live for bikes is awesome. They are very helpful and knowledge when it comes to fixing bikes, recommending bikes and helping finding the right parts. I've been going to the one that's located in Bellflower, but I love that they expanded to Downey. It's very easy to find and ample parking in the back. My cousin took my bike in for breaks a couple of days ago. When my bike was returned to me there was a large tear on the right hand side of my new grip. I called to ask about it and they would not take responsibilty. They would rather loose a customer than to make it right. The grip is approximately $12. I brought my bike to Live 4 Bikes in Bellflower after being snubbed by a couple of major bike shops. I had recently purchased a bike online, assembled it, but never had any experience with electronic shifters (di2). I called around to see if anyone was able to help and was either ignored completely or they were unwilling to accommodate me. I ended up bringing the bike to Live 4 Bikes in Bellflower and was immediately greeted by Hector. I explained the situation and he called his brother Carlos who was at the Downey location and had more experience with di2 systems. It was close to closing time but he made all of the arrangements and even transported the bike over the same day. During the time I was there, we chatted about the different rides we had done and ended up following each other on Strava. I was quoted $65 which was much lower than I had expected. 2 days later (as expected), I receive a call from Carlos. He was able to troubleshoot and identify the problem but did not have the tools and supplies to fix it. He did not charge me for any of the diagnostic work even though I offered. I highly recommend both Live 4 Bikes locations. They are a family business and a great group of people with excellent customer service. Major bike shops should take note of this! This is what keeps us coming back! read more
