Their bread and pasta are stellar! I had the shrimp scampi - great flavor and the pasta is amazing - certainly no grocery store boxed pasta here. Calamari is very good, large rings and calamari is tender. Fam raved about the blue cheese dressing. Did not care for their caeser salad or bruschetta. Service was great, loved the interior.

Food was good--meat logs & such. Service was good--waitress was straight-forward Ambiance was good--could dim down the lights a smidge, little too bright. Overall, it was good

Wow! I travel heavily and have had chicken parm all over. Who would have ever thought I get one of the best I have eaten in Binghamton, NY. This is a very must if in town. Wow!! Just wow.

Been 7 years since my last review so last night's experience needs an update. My bride and I arrive at around 5:15 and then waited 15 minutes for the server to take a drink order. So okay, not the worst offense but it's becoming clear that we're moving at the speed of smell here. 20 minutes later we finally get our order in for a calamari app, Philly cheese sandwich and spaghetti and meatballs. 20 minutes later we get this plate of slimy rubber O-rings with fried crumbs all around (I'll post a picture) but this was embarrassing calamari. So we're now an hour and 5 minutes into this adventure when our dinner finally arrives. To be honest, it was pretty good. The spaghetti and meatballs were to die for. I love their marinara but some people say it's too sweet. It is sweet and not my preference but it was delicious. I looked at the reviews before we came here and I always get a kick out of the negative reviews where someone comes with a group of 25 and complained that the service was slow. Or the vegan that didn't see a bale of hay on the menu. Then there is always the snowflake that didn't like the way the server wore her face diaper during Covid so I was looking forward to giving a rave update review. We've had a great time here for the past 20 years. Sadly, I can't do that, the food has gone down hill and the service was glacially slow. I would have just chocked it up to a bad night for them but there's too many other reviews saying the same thing, sadly, I agree.

Huge portions for spaghetti dishes. I got to watch people eat for 25 min while waiting for my take out order that was put in 45 min prior to that over the phone. Pizza was fine, chick parm sandwiches were a hit, and if I can tell you anything, DON'T get the MEAT LOG. I was feeling spunky and thought I would try it. Gross. Less of a homemade meatball texture and more like a kafta/ground paste that you get with the meatballs you buy in the frozen food section.

This is apparently a staple in binghamton dining. I was happy to be able to experience it during my trip. The staff was super sweet and accommodating to our large group. I enjoyed the log of meat and home made spaghetti was such a good texture. The restaurant is fascinating to walk around and look at the artwork. The bar feels like someone is going to do a mob hit. i loved it here!

Thank you so much for this pile of cold old spaghetti with a pile of sauce

I ordered the spaghetti there. If you can even call it that. Tastes like slop. Looks like something I'd eat on Fear Factor

If you're looking for a slice of Binghamton history served with a side of old-school Italian charm,…read moreCortese Restaurant is essentially a local landmark. Since it first opened its doors in 1947, it has been a staple of the community, maintaining a vibe that feels like a step back into a more classic era of dining. Here is a breakdown of what makes this "East Side Institution" a must-visit: The Atmosphere & History Founded by Angeline Cortese and her sons, the restaurant has remained in the family for nearly 80 years. It's the kind of place where the booths are cozy, the lighting is dim, and the service is professional yet warm--making it just as suitable for a milestone anniversary as it is for a casual Friday night pizza. Menu Highlights The Homemade Sauce: This is the heart of the kitchen. Reviewers often describe the sauce as perfectly balanced--tangy with a hint of garlic and a natural sweetness from vine-ripened tomatoes. It's rich without being heavy, and it coats their fresh, homemade pasta beautifully. Veal and Peppers: A standout for fans of traditional Italian comfort food. The veal is tender, and the sautéed peppers add a sweetness that complements the savory notes of the dish. It's a hearty, authentic choice that showcases their "from-scratch" philosophy. Mozzarella Sticks: Forget the frozen variety; these are a fan favorite. They are hand-breaded and golden-fried, often served on a sampler platter or as a standalone starter. They are exactly what you want: a satisfying crunch followed by a perfect cheese pull. Baked Clams: Prepared in the classic "Oreganata" style, these are a sophisticated way to start your meal. They come topped with seasoned breadcrumbs and a touch of lemon and white wine, capturing that seaside Italian flavor. Tiramisu Cake: No trip to Cortese is complete without dessert. Their Tiramisu is light, airy, and layered with the right amount of espresso-soaked ladyfingers and creamy mascarpone. It's the perfect, not-too-sweet finish to a heavy meal. Pro Tips for Your Visit The "Hot Pie" Pizza: Cortese is famous for its unique rectangular pizza. The sauce is tangy, and the pepperoni is tucked under the cheese, which prevents it from getting greasy and keeps the flavor locked in.

For an entree my wife ordered the gnocchi with vodka sauce and a side order of shrimp. It was terrific. I ordered the ribeye. It was pretty good. I would say average. I think the onions could have been sautéed a little more but that is just nitpicking. It was a very good steak. We had the blueberry cheesecake for desert and it was great. The service was absolutely second to none. Our server was tremendous. Really elevated the dinner. Our only complaint was that it was a little close seating and there was a very loud gentleman sitting next to us who was swearing and being lewd. Normally doesn't bother me any but didn't like it during my anniversary dinner (and in front of my wife). We will definitely be back.
