I was pleased to discover that this restaurant has opened up since my last visit to Brunswick...and it serves pho, one of my favorite foods! But none of us in our party of four tried the pho...instead we had the Mien (seafood soup with glass noodles), the Bun, a chicken dish, and some appetizers (spring roles, as well as a rice noodle crepe). The crepe was interesting and different...it tasted more like the sort of thing I'd get with Cantonese dim sum, although it definitely had the fresh herby aesthetic of Vietnamese food (served on a bed of bean sprouts). The Mien soup was good, although I would have preferred more actual whole seafood and less processed food--it was heavy on the fish balls and fake crab meat. I would have preferred none of this stuff, and instead a bit more shrimp, or possibly add clams or fresh fish. I'd prefer less fish and real fish, instead of the reconstituted seafood-based products. The Bun was also good, as was the chicken. They were very generous with the portions of meat, which normally I am not a fan of, but I found it welcome at this time of year, when I get hungrier than normal, and with Vietnamese cuisine, which tends to be on the light side. I would definitely come back here. It was not mind-blowingly amazing, but it was soldly good food with very generous portions, for reasonable prices. Service was also excellent and the ambiance was very pleasant. It's a small space but it's arranged in manner that makes it seem both cozy and spacious (nice windows looking out the front), and I also like how they've carefully placed sound-absorbent materials on the wall--keeping it pleasantly quiet. I think I would come here regularly if I lived in town. For five stars, the comments on the seafood above, and I wish they had other hot sauces, like the chunky, unsweetened sambal oelek, a more traditional hot sauce, or hot oil, rather than just sriracha (sriracha, to me, tastes too much like ketchup, it's too sweet and not hot enough). Also, in general, I think I'd appreciate more fresh herbs...I know it's New England, but what attracts me to Vietnamese cuisine are the bold, fresh, bitter herbs they use--and this place used them, but it could have used more in my opinion. read more

We ordered the vegetable Pad Thai, fresh spring rolls and house pho. The Pad Thai was good but spicy which was surprising as most Pad Thai has no spice. The pho was really good and included a lot of meat/mix ins. The fresh spring rolls were bad - very bland and the peanut sauce was way too sweet. The restaurant itself is small and has a nice atmosphere, but on nice days you can sit at the tables they've placed outside. They're pretty quick when it comes to take out and the service is always very friendly. I love the house bun and pho, but what's great is that the portions for the entrees are large! I had the veggie/tofu bun, which was great. A generous portion that included lots of steamed veggies and a few pieces of fried tofu. Flavorful and satisfying. My friend had the pho and loved it. One star removed because the service was both unfriendly and slow. We stood at the door for ten minutes before we were greeted despite the server walking by us several times. It appeared that only one server was on staff, which was about 2 too few. Once seated it was nearly 20 minutes before she returned to take our order. The food at Little Saigon is great and the setting is lovely. I wish the owner/manager weren't so quarrelsome when orders are wrong (not a rare occurrence) or unusual. I've eaten lunch here about 6 times, as well as ordered take-out. The patio is great when weather's nice (although their cook sometimes comes out and smokes outside, which is ick). Inside, the decor is tasteful and well-designed, given how tiny it is. Nice array of condiments on the tables. My main disappointment with Little Saigon is the owner's attitude when they get your order wrong -- which has happened to me a number of times. They automatically use fried tofu in their food, so I always ask for fresh (not fried). When they fail to make my food as I've requested, it's led to the owner marching over to lecture me about how most people don't like it fresh because of the texture. Don't care -- please bring me the food that I ordered, not what your other customers like. On a recent take-out order, I asked for a tiny container for to-go oyster sauce. The owner became agitated and told me that one doesn't put oyster sauce on pad thai. She argued with me until I pointed out that I'm paying for the food, and will eat it the way I like it. (When I DID get home, the order was wrong. Sigh.) It discomfits me that she takes personal offense at my quirky tastebuds. So sue me -- I like oyster sauce. In summary, great food.... but you may find yourself on the sour end of a bossy owner. read more

Had a quick dinner here earlier in the week. The air had a chill so I was really craving soup. Pho to the rescue! I had the fresh spring rolls with tofu as a starter. They were light and delicious and reminded me of something I ate during college. I had the chicken pho. There were two sizes on the menu but I didn't specify a size when I ordered. She brought me the large and it was HUGE (but only $10). It hit the spot as it was a nicely flavored hot bowl of soup, which was just what I wanted. The place was very small and cute. Food was delicious! However the reason why I'm giving stars is because, the service was very poor. When we came in the kid in front greeted us but didn't seem happy. After seating us he got on his phone and ignored everyone. There was a woman who wanted condiments for her table, but was given he death stare for disturbing him. When the woman finally came to great us. She was annoyed because we didn't know what we wanted. I only had pho that usually is the fasted. Considering you don't have to do much to it. But it took for ever to come out. While my husband and daughter were already half way through their food. Been here a few times and the food is always good. The servings of pho are huge. I even got my parents, who don't typically try new foods, to try out Little Saigon and they loved it. The food was not authentic, was bland and or badly spiced, the "Jumbo" Shrimp were any thing but, there was no bar service at lunch, the place was cold, dark and the table was way too small, better suited to a bar setting or intimate dining. I ate very little of what was served. To me it was simply inedible. I would not recommend this place and suggest U look else where for real Vietnamese food. OK...so don't get me wrong we are really happy to have a Vietnamese restaurant in Brunswick. Now this is the second and it is an improvement. The grilled calamari is fantastic. The service is good. The 3 stars is for the Pho. Just OK. The broth was not flavorful enough, the sides/toppings were meager. Why not a build your own soup menu....different sizes? ....the Pho is the main event in a restaurant like this. This will satisfy your craving but it won't knock your socks off....hint...drive south about 22 miles. Addendum: my daughter who is 15 and loves Vietnamese food frequently goes to Little Saigon. She enjoys the food, but the waitress is quite unpleasant towards her and her friends. The waitress regularly ignores her group, does not say hello and comments on the amount of hoisin sauce used. I have been craving green papaya salad for quite sometime, I was estactic to see it on the app menu. It was very good not as spicy as normally made and not made with the traditional stinky fish paste, which was ok by me since I'm allergic to shrimp. The Phō has a sweet broth I generally prefer more savory broth. It was still tasty. The pork chop with rice was marinated with traditional lemongrass notes. Reminds me of my mother's cooking. As a Vietnamese I do have really high standard for Vietnamese food. I've been here couple "Bún Nam Vang", which has a lot of meat and the sauce is delicious. However, "Ph" is not quite authentic, but it tastes decent. The Fried Spring rolls are quite good too. The price is affordable for college students. However, the service is quite slow (sometimes really slow) on busy day. Also, the servers do not really seem happy serving you, and you feel like they are angry at some thing. What a wonderful restaurant! I ordered the large chicken Pho; it came in a bowl which I could have worn as a helmet! The broth was subtly flavored, the noodles tender and tasty, and the bok choi was fresh, with a bit of crunch to it. The bean sprouts on the side were fresh, as was the large sprig of Thai basil. My wife had the Pad Thai, which was authentically flavored, not overly sweet, as many versions of this dish are. The spring rolls which started the meal were delicious, with a wonderful dipping sauce. The service was friendly and efficient. If you're within fifty miles, go to this place. We had an order of fresh spring rolls, and fried spring rolls, and also the house egg rolls to start. All were great but the fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce were the hit appetizer. I had the beef brisket pho - the broth was fantastic, and all the side bits that accompany the dish were fresh. The brisket itself was just slightly tough, but certainly edible. The best Pho I've had north of Portland for sure. Many other reviews reported poor service- our service was fine, although it did seem like there was only one waitress in the entire restaurant. I usually have a good experience with Little Saigon but I totally ordered the wrong dish today: pho Nam Vang and House wonton soup. Pho Nam Vang - as deceptive as the name - is actually a stir fried vermicelli dish with grilled meat, almost a wet version of the regular mixed vermicelli minus all the veggies. And No BROTH. What a crime! I was expecting a boiling hot bowl of soup. It felt like an improvised dish that had a totally misleading name. So that was a huge letdown. My partner got wonton egg noddle soup and the broth was so salty. I think they use salt to mask the fact that it doesn't have any flavor. Huge sadness. This five star rating is based on the wonderful menu and presentation of the chef's creations at Little Saigon Restaurant on Brunswick's Maine Street. My husband and I lived in Asia and visited Saigon, now Ho Chi Min City. Cuisine at Little Saigon is the best we've experienced since leaving Asia. Atmosphere inside the restaurant is likewise charming, reminiscent of nice Saigon restaurants we ate in while in Viet Nam's former capital city, which we very much enjoyed. We shared every menu item between us beginning with traditional Vietnamese shrimp spring rolls. Tiger Beer was greatly appreciated! Our main entree being the Chicken with Rice was beautifully presented.
