Authentic, super reasonably priced, broth was delicious, serving size of noodles and broth was quite generous despite ordering the small bowl size. We got an order for pick up. We live nearby and the food was home within 7 minutes. The Bon Mi was okay. The Pad Thai was lukewarm and congealed in the shape of the container. Saigon 3 stars, SRV 5 stars Food- the (free) appetizer of pho tofu soup at Saigon is celestial- a twelve out of ten; I will get this next time. The pho beef at Saigon is less flavorful that at SRV- 3 stars vs 5 stars Saigon vs SRV. The Thai tea at Saigon is spectacular! Has layers and layers of flavors- far exceeds that of SRV. Summary: SRV 5 stars; Saigon 3-4 stars. You cannot go wrong at either place and I would welcome others to submit a similar comparison. read more

Thank goodness--we finally found a great place for pho! We ordered the spring rolls and pho tai (rare beef, on the side). After having a sauce for the rolls that was straight out of a bottle at another place, we were pleased that this one was more authentic. The rolls were tasty--incorporating mostly lettuce and a small amount of pork and shrimp--but not the best we've ever had. I prefer to see whole shrimp and more meat in a greater ratio to the filler. The pho was definitely the star. Delicious, sweet and herbaceous broth served with rare beef, and a nice balance of basil, cilantro, sprouts and noodles. The interior is cozy and welcoming--as was the woman whom we assumed is an (the?) owner. Next time we're craving pho, we know where to go! read more

Portland is the place where you can find lots of Asian restaurants but when you're in to Vietnamese foods this is the place to be. Very good food and friendly people and the place , even though it's not so big compared to some other Asian restaurants in the area it's nice, clean and very well decorated. Me and my wife both have pho and the broth is ver hot which is so important for the soup and superbly well seasoned and the vegetables that you add on your pho they were all fresh. They also offer free soup as a start . As of now they're still pretty cautious because of the pandemic so they're accepting reservations only and take outs too. They have ample parking space even though they're located on one of the busy area and their price is very descent too.If you' re craving for Vietnamese foods I would say this is highly recommended. read more

In a town with so many excellent Vietnamese/Thai restaurants, Saigon is my GO TO for wonton soup. This is no ubiquitous bowl of wonton, oh no! This is a big bowl of expertly constructed broth with plenty of fresh vegetables, pork slices AND a generous amount of in house made wonton dumplings. It really is a delicious filling and pretty healthy dinner on a cold night. Saigon also rocks the fresh spring rolls, bahn mi sandwiches and bun bowls. They also advertise breakfast options which have always intrigued me, will have to go back some weekend morning for takeout! read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch en route to the dentist- what a delightful surprise! Very warm welcome by the owner who promptly brought steaming cups of delicious tofu soup. We shared fresh pork/shrimp rolls followed by a pho tofu (excellent) and stir fried rice noodles with tofu and some veg- equally good. 2 words: Tofu Soup. The food here overall is pretty good. It's not my favorite place for Pho in town, but the Tofu Soup is everything. I will sometimes just order two orders of Tofu soup (which are sizeable) and down one in 1 sitting. It's just a creamy wonderful soup. Generally, whatever you order won't be disappointing. I honestly don't think I have ever had food delivered as fast as that ever. It was my wife's birthday and she was in the mood for pho. So we packed up and went out for a late lunch/early dinner on a Sunday. It was moderately busy but by no means packed. Sat down, looked at the menu, ordered spring rolls and two different medium bowls of pho. The spring rolls came in 4 minutes! The pho came out 10 minutes later! This was amazing efficiency! I ordered the he rare beef and meatball. Just a fantastic cold day item that warms you up. This place is excellent and really says something with a town as small as Portland is that we can have so many great independent restaurants vs the chain selections that most American cities seem produce. read more

We have been coming here ever since it has opened. Lots of new stuff on the new menu I just posted . There lots to choose from. We live in the neighborhood and eat here (or take out) once a week. The family is awesome, and the food is always fantastic. Pho Thai and vermicelli with eggroll is our go to. Their chili oil is super tasty and super hotttt, and the veggies toppings are always fresh and plentiful. The Bahn Mi are a great lunch and even their Chinese dishes (while a little oily) are delicious (lomein etc). While it's a funny hole in the wall, Saigon is hands down the best Vietnamese in Portland, if not Maine. Great Vietnamese restaurant owned by the kindest people. During covid times, you have to call ahead to dine in. They answered my call immediately and when we arrived we were greeted by name and seated promptly. Service was fast and each dish came out at the perfect time. We were surprised to be served complimentary soup. It was a thick and flavorful soup with tofu, egg, carrot and peas. It was perfect to warm our souls on this cold winter morning. Hate to leave a poor review after having not had a meal there, however, we drove 4 miles to eat there, and were turned away rather rudely by employees. If you want to eat there, call first because even though they have posted hours all over the internet, you may be turned away with attitude. We had read awesome recent reviews, so were really surprised when we were greeted by unfriendly signage, and a rude greeting from an employee who explained poorly that they have a "reservation only" policy for dining in. Really, for lunch? We were very happy to discover Tahn Tahn across the street which has awesome Pho. I will update this if I ever go back, but that is a little doubtful at this point. The employee also explained that they cannot "contact Yelp" to update their information. I know it is not rocket science to claim a Yelp page, this one remains unclaimed. The restaurant also has posted open hours on Google, and their own webpage with no warning about needing to have a reservation. read more

I'm now a pho fan! I've had Vietnamese food before (it's my daughter's favorite), but I tend to stick with what I know - spring rolls, banh mi, noodles, stuff like that. But I was hungry, and feeling adventurous, so I asked our friendly and helpful server what she would recommend. She immediately said "pho." Noodles in broth didn't sound like enough to satisfy my appetite, but I decided to go with it. It was a great choice! The broth was slightly sweet and fragrant, the beef was lean and the veggies (yes, ask them to add veggies) were tender-crisp and delicious. The words that my friend and I kept saying as we tasted were "fresh" and "bright." So nice and light and flavorful! Because I was hungry, we split an order of crab rangoons (Yum! The wrapper was so crisp, and the cream cheese so soft and creamy!) and spring rolls (again - FRESH was the word!). The sauces, especially the peanut sauce, were a perfect complement to the food. My friend had the vermicelli with grilled shrimp - it looked fantastic, and she reported that it was just delicious. And, yes, I ended up with a large container of pho to take home. The medium bowl served for two meals so far, and I'm sure it will be at least one more lunch or dinner! Great value! The one drawback was the temperature of the restaurant. Granted, it was a very cold night, but the restaurant was freezing inside. There were a few small space heaters placed around the room, but they weren't doing the job. Every time I come in, I tell myself, "I'm going to order Pho". Instead, every time my mouth opens to order, I find myself saying, "C3"-- which is the Rice with Grilled Pork. I can't help myself. It is just that good. They start you with a complimentary egg drop soup. I continue with an order of the Egg Rolls (switch out the sweet chili sauce for fish sauce instead), and proceed with my C3. Portions are large, so if you are hungry a medium sized pho should work just fine. I had the basic beef pho, A#1 if memory serves. The broth was terrific and, after adding the customary greens, jalapeño slices, and spicy chili oil, I was warmed up on a chilly Maine night. Appetizers of crab Rangoon, spring rolls, and Vietnamese style egg rolls were just fine, but nothing spectacular. Our waitress was a very friendly and chatty Afghan woman, making this a truly multicultural experience. I visited Saigon as I was in the mood for a warm light meal on a cold day. I don't eat beef or pork so decided to get a chicken pho to go. Everything was packed tidy in a brown bag and the owners also packed hot sauces For me including sriracha and a hot oil. They also included a thick sweet sauce which I do not know the name of. I have had the opportunity to try many Vietnamese places in the greater Portland area, and without a shadow of a doubt, Saigon reigns supreme. First and foremost, Saigon has the BEST pho in the area, hands down. The broth is the most flavorful, and the common pho ingredients are plentiful and fresh. Besides the pho, everything else I've had there has been excellent as well. Also, the staff are brilliant in every respect. They are attentive, friendly, and genuinely care if you have a good experience. Lastly, and admittedly a rather odd point. The packaging of their take out, particularly their soups, is superb. All broth containers are bagged up, sauces are generous, and they give you a nice bag with handles to tote. All in all, Saigon is the superior Vietnamese restaurant, and one of the best Asian restaurants overall. read more

While I wasn't too impressed on my first visit, this place has definitely grown on me since then! The staff is always friendly, the menu has a lot of variety, and it helps that this place is super close to school! The egg drop soup usually comes with the meal and it's definitely very chinese. I usually get the Pho Tai Chin Nam which is rare meat and well done brisket (aka nape meat??). The broth is nice and clear with tons of flavor, and it isn't super oily! My only disappointment is that their "small" is a LOT SMALLER than what I'm used to seeing back home in California where there are pho establishments everywhere. While disappointing, I'm not exactly complaining about it because it's the perfect serving size for me and none of it goes to waste! :) Can't wait to try more of their menu! read more
