    Thai tea with boba
    Ellen B.

My first time visiting Pho Co and I've been wanting to try it for awhile. Was very happy with my meal and will be back to try other menu items. I had the Thai tea w/boba and the orig banh mi sandwich. This was my first banh mi ever, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it was good. The bread was crisp and chewy, the veggies were super fresh. There was not much meat on it, but maybe these sandwiches don't usually have much? Kind of like a Maine Italian where the emphasis is on the veggies and bread? The sandwich was large and I could only do half and ate the second half for dinner. The Thai tea was very good and sweet. There was a good amount of boba in it. I would come here just for the Thai tea. They have several flavors of milk teas and bobas to choose from as well. Would love to try one of their meals with the lemongrass beef next time. Great stop out of the ordinary for fast food.

    Drunken noodles with pork belly

Stopped by on a whim when I drove by and saw the open flag. Didn't even bother look at the menu ahead of time. I parked and went in blind. The place clearly used to be a convenient store because they have drink cooler fridges along one wall where they have imported coconut water, beer, wine, etc. You order opposite the drink fridges and they have a pretty expansive menu. They have all types of bubble tea, I went for watermelon milk tea with popping passion fruit boba. There was not enough ice in it, which is ironic because I overheard the staff mentioning someone didn't refill the ice. I probably wouldn't get a fruit milk tea again but the passion fruit popping boba was fun and different. I've been on a lemongrass beef kick so I got the vermicelli noodle bowl with lemongrass beef. My husband ordered drunken noodles with pork belly. I got the food to go so unfortunately my vermicelli bowl was very warm by the time I got home. Lesson learned, next time I'll put it in a cooler and keep the dishes separate. The drunken noodles had a hearty amount of veggies but they were honestly cut too large. There was only one piece of pork belly that was too chewy to eat. The lemongrass beef had the texture of soft beef jerky but was warm and super flavorful. I loved it, my husband, who doesn't like lemon, did not. I wish they offered peanut sauce in addition to the traditional nuoc cham sauce. Overall it was very good. Oh I also had an egg roll on it which was only okay, but I ate it 30 minutes after being made so...? All in all I'd recommend and will likely be back but try something different for fun. Oh by the way they also have normal deli sandwiches like ham Italians etc.

Pho is good, pad Thai is even better! Their steak bomb delicious and Classic Banh mi equally good. Their prices are reasonable and service extra nice. Will definitely come back to try other dishes.

I really, really want Pho Co variety to succeed and grow in the most sincere way! I believe they are trying to put out home style Vietnamese food at reasonable prices. They are pushing past the always dishes of other Vietnamese in the greater Portland area, and offering specials like chicken and seafood crepes, grilled cured ground pork, and bulgogi beef meatballs. YES!! They are also in a convenient location with parking, AND the cooks seems to have a gifted touch! My biggest concern is based on how many people seem to be working behind the counter and how long it took for orders to be turned around. We ordered two things that were already out in a heated case, and an order of rangoons. It took 35 minutes to get our order, and there was nobody in front of us. To be fair, a very nice young woman did come out and apologize, but still??? I counted roughly six people working behind the counter, they all looked busy, but yet, food wasn't coming back to the customers in any kind of reasonable time. When we finally left, a couple who ordered right after us (one order of pad thai) were told it would still be about 10 more minutes before their order was ready. Yikes!

Just discovered this place and so happy to have found it . The staff was friendly and and welcoming. Easy to park. There is a eat in counter and a couple small tables . I did takeout. They also carry wine/beer and some grocery items. They packaged it up wonderfully vegetables and rice noddles and chicken were packed separately from the each other and the broth. I assembled it all at home and it was definitely enough food for 2 servings . The flavor of the broth was right up there with some of best I have had. I will definitely go back as often as possible and try the other menu items, I was so happy to find this in Westbrook . Also got the Vietnamese coffee which was excellent .

    traditional banh mi

Tried a banh mi (traditional, no onions) for my lunch today and I was impressed. As a former New Yorker, it brought me back to working in Soho and walking down to Grand St for a banh mi. The meat was flavorful, the veggies crisp, the spice on point. I thought the aioli was kind of thin, but otherwise the sandwich was excellent. The online ordering process was smooth, and the service was quick (the estimate said 25 min, but it couldn't have taken more than 10) and friendly. I'm excited to try more of the menu!

Been here twice already and the staff is so freaking nice it makes me want to come back and support them. It helps that the food is good too! We had the pho and the banh mi and would come back for both again. I also had the thai tea (meh, not enough tea, too much milk) and the matcha tea latte (YUM would order again, finished before I even got home). Not the best viet food I've ever had, but definitely the best I've found so far in Maine. Would have the banh mi and pho again (and probably will sometime next week). They also have a little grocery section which has asian snacks and they have a cooler section for drinks (alcoholic and non).

Had their beef pho and their pork belly sampler. The Phở broth was great and would definitely get again. Pork belly was nice and tender sliced thin. I also added a pic of the phorrito and that was awesome.

    a SPOON??
    Steve A.

Tried this place as a lunch alternative to the poke place down the street, since I passed it on the way while sitting in thick traffic. It's got that going for it, but it's a strange place. A lot of the food inside is just plain American, and then like some smaller Asian places I've seen, it's half market selling some Vietnamese and other East Asian products. The authentic menu is quite limited. First off, I am not pleased that they use generic store-bought bread laden with preservatives for their banh mi. Any good banh mi is based on fresh, toasty bread, and this is generic soft kills-you-over-time bread. Big no-no and I do not recommend anyone get a banh mi as a result. So I got one of their other meals, paired with the last mango juice in the fridge. They brought me a spoon. See caption. A spoon?? For a pork chop? I ended up just eating it off the bone and awkwardly trying to fit the other foods onto the spoon. This made no sense. The vegetables are just thrown in there and have no flavor without the side sauce. The egg is just an egg, and was quite overdone for being a fried egg. This doesn't really sound like a 3 star review thus far, but the meat was really quite tasty and a good portion for the price. I can't fault them for being fresh and a good value. Really, this is just a weird place. Not planning to go back unless I have a sudden pho craving.

We came in on Saturday night knowing we would have to wait so we went to the bar. They had a special cocktail that night and it was so good I wish I could remember what it was called but you have to try whatever their specialty drink of the night is. We went with: Empire Eggrolls Lobster Rangoons Char Siu Baos Spicy Pork Belly Buns Pork Potsticks Shanghai Soup Dumplings Shu Mai Curry Udon Kung Pao Chicken Honestly everything was great but the stand outs for me were the Lobster Rangoons, Char Siu Baos, Pork Potsticks, Curry Udon, and the Kung Pao Chicken. First of Lobster Rangoons I mean how do you not. Portland Maine being Lobster Paradise this just makes sense and is a must try staple here. Just takes your normal Chinese Crab Rangoon to the next level. The Char Siu Baos where the best BBQ Pork Bun I have ever had. I know these can be hit or miss sometimes but Empire it doing it right truly the best I have had. The Pork Potsticks were also great. A top 3 dumpling I have had. I honestly wasn't expecting much but these were amazing. The Curry Udon was kind of a funny story. I said we should try this and my friends like me know it was vegan but for once that didn't bother me. This was great and so full of flavor. Plus you can't go wrong with Udon. Kung Pao Chicken is always my go to and this one takes the cake. The Chicken is lighty battered and so full of flavor. One of the best I have ever had. Honestly you can't go wrong with anything we had at Empire Chinese and I would 100% go back and do it all again. I'll end this review the way we started dinner. Lobsta Goooooonnnnsss!

Just a bit small for me. 9/10 Food: * Shanghai soup dumplings: soft and flavorful.
