This is more a drinking place than a restaurant, to my view, though nothing wrong with their food. It is charming and welcoming! Their drinking (wine and beer, etc.) list is extensive, especially some very good and rare found German beers. Their food is simple and somewhat revised version of traditional Turkish food - neater in the look, clearer in terms of spices and less muttony in the spell. Stumbled across this place on the way to another restaurant (which was too busy to accommodate at the time). The outside of Little Rascal looked interesting and so I went in. I was surprised by the high quality of the food. I would say the establishment is a bit understaffed but they make up for it with charm, good ambiance, amiable nature, and (last but not least) good food. Delicious brunch, love the olive paste and their bread. Have to get the grill meat ball or any or the grill meat! So good. Love the atmosphere of this place. Very intimate and slightly rustic feel to it. The staff is very friendly and even though the day we went it was freezing outside and their heating system wasn't working they set up individual radiators by our table to keep us warm. We ordered the Shrimp Casserole but they gave us the Octopus Casserole by accident but they were apologetic and asked us what they could do to fix it. We decided to keep the Octopus because it was still very tasty and they gave us a complimentary dessert. We also ordered their hummus, eggplant salad, and the chicken kebab dish. Everything was very good especially their chicken kebab. It was probably the most tender & moist chicken I've tasted and seasoned perfectly. What I really love about their food is that everything was light and not heavy at all so it made it very easy to enjoy your food while still having a good conversation with your girlfriends. They also have an extensive wine selection but we did not order any alcohol that night. read more

I stumbled across this place walking over to Vanessa's Dumplings and took note of it. I returned a couple of nights later with a date and my instincts were correct. A charming bar and cafe with a very good and succinct wine and beer list, along with a nice menu of food, including small plates. The most important thing was it was not jammed, easy going, you could hear the other people speaking easily, and it all just clicked. My Malbec was delicious, and the both of us split a dish of Turkish pickles and hummus, all of which was perfect for the first date I was on. The manager (owner) is really nice, soft spoken (perhaps too much so for running a bar/cafe in Manhattan!), and I'd definitely go back. read more

My initial impression of this place was lovely: cozy atmosphere, great lighting and delicious food (the meatballs are perfection). With that being said, I've never been treated so poorly by management. My friend wrote a similar review, so I won't belabor the topic; however, we were asked to move tables and then asked to leave because we had "been there for an hour and forty-five minutes and that's a sufficient amount of time." To which I wanted to subtract at least fifteen minutes for the time it took for us to gather our stuff, prematurely close out our tab and move tables after they told us another group needed our table. Let me emphasize that we had a reservation, ordered multiple starters, three dips, a salad and an entree (oink), in addition to ordering an entire bottle of wine. We certainly would have ordered more, or perhaps a cocktail, but we were not given that opportunity because our meal was rushed and we were asked to move tables to "finish our wine." Again, we may have ordered more, but we were asked to move and close out our tab. I know New York is not known for its manners, but since when did it become ok that the paying customer essentially gets kicked out of an establishment for doing nothing but enjoying the food and beverage it serves? Unacceptable. Little Rascal, your food is divine and your waitresses are doing their best, but it seems the protocols they have to abide by need to be reassessed because moving people around like cattle and then asking that they leave because "their time is up" is no way to treat your patrons. read more

Little Rascal is simply the best Turkish restaurant I've ever had the good fortune to visit. There is nothing on the menu thta is less than exsquisite. Babaghanouge, Hummus, Turkish pickled vegetables, Cacik, Piyazm Kisir, Ezme all are fabulous. The lentil soup, I've never had better; ditto the octopus salad. Turkish meatballs (lamb), chicken, lamb, salmon--you can't do better anywhere else, including at home if you're handy in the kitchen. This place gets 2 stars for the ambience and the chicken that was on my salad. Otherwise fairly disappointing. When we got there we were told there would be a 30 minute wait, but that we could sit at the counter and have a drink while we waited. We said yes, had a drink (I had white wine sangria, really good), 40ish minutes later we flag down the waitress and ask if she knows how much longer the wait will be, and she goes off for a minute then comes back to say that they're booked up for the night. Uhhh, seems unprofessional that you told us a 30 min wait before??? She says we can eat at the counter and we say sure cause we're really hungry. We all ordered their Quinoa and Kale salad with avocado and goat cheese, and added chicken on top. The salads come fairly quickly, and the chicken was soooo good. But the salad itself had seemingly no dressing, and a very small amount of quinoa, but a decent amount of walnuts. We weren't sure if they had added them in place of the quinoa, but walnuts were not included in the description, and considering that tree nuts are one of the most common allergies, that seemed a little risky to me. The ingredients in the salad otherwise were really good together, but it wasn't as great as I had expected, although, again, the chicken was incredible. I ordered for delivery a salad and the lamb brochette. The salad was really small and the lettuce was completely wilted and black... The lamb wasn't cubes but very, very small scraps that were very tough and cold. There was nothing to it at all. It was disgusting. And the tomatoes were not roasted. Should have been a cute addition to the neighborhood, as we're lacking in the middle eastern cuisine camp. However, you're better off with Balzem or even Hoomoos Asli. Although the latter is more of a super casual to go place and not a sit down. Back to Little Rascal - intimate setting, great wine list, excellent drinks. It fits perfectly with the casual but nice offerings of the people who frequent the neighborhood. But the food! It's barely edible. Not one person in our group enjoyed the meal. Portions were small, food was tasteless, and nothing tasted marinated. I wish I could say that the ambiance and the people compensated for the food, but it really doesn't. Not that this is supposed to be a review for the other places, but unless you're just coming for drinks, I think this is a PASS. read more

Best Turkish Food In NY For those of you who are yearning for outstanding Turkish food in NY, look no further. This is the real deal, without any of the cheesy overtones. Clean, superbly executed mezze with warm, personal service in a calming and delightful place. We had been there about 9 months ago and had incredible food. I wanted to go back but couldn't remember the name. I googled all Turkish restaurants below 14th Street and then looked them up on street view. The food was so good that i was that dedicated. Going back I was concerned that the 2nd time wouldn't be as good. But fear not. We had the dolmades, piyaz, mixed salad, taboule and the dumplings (which were a special). Together with some Turkish wine, it was a winning combination. The food is still incredible, the service warm and friendly and the place charming and low key. The music is soft and pleasant and allows for conversation. The menu is varied and has tons of options for vegetarians, which we both are. We will be regulars. read more

The reason I give it two stars is because it honestly may have been the worst service I ever experienced. My party of 15 was completely forgotten about. It's pretty hard to miss 15 people. We waited about 45 mins for our food and when we approached the server they ran to the kitchen with a face of panic. He could of forgotten to put in the order, fine, mistakes happen. However, after putting in our original orders, there was no apology, nobody came to the table to ask if we wanted anything for the next two hours, nothing. Our entrees came with greens instead of rice which nobody wanted, and when we asked for rice they said it was "sold out." Ok it would be nice to inform your customers beforehand. The servers are rude and the whole staff seems disgruntled. I would not recommend it if you plan on having a nice evening. Stumbled upon this place and was excited to find a Turkish place as I love the food and tea. Well color me surprised as I step in the vibe was off. The guy who greeted us was less than friendly but we didn't pay it much attention at first. Then we see his interaction with the other customers was totally different from ours. You just know when someone is avoiding you and he was definitely doing that. I asked for the Turkish tea but received regular tea when I pointed it out he replaced it which is fine. Then when he's refilling the people right next to me he doesn't even offer or look in my direction. Well I was annoyed at that point and I decided I wouldn't be leaving a tip. Time comes to pay and I make sure to check off no tip. He then proceeds to ask me if he did something wrong with my order to which I responded by ignoring him and walking out. Here's a tip for you: don't be so oblivious and rude to your paying customers. P.S. I never write reviews but felt compelled to do so in this instance. read more

I came with my boyfriend and two friends for dinner and we were all underwhelmed by the food. I had the octopus salad, which consisted of a pile of greens with tiny pieces of octopus that I had to search for and it came with no dressing whatsoever and not even a drop of lemon. It definitely wasn't worth the $15 I had to pay for it. My boyfriend ordered the Turkish meatballs, which were dry, salty and seemed like they weren't fresh. The rice that came with it was bland. This dish cost $18. There was no AC, which made it very uncomfortable on a hot and humid evening. We gave this place a chance, but we definitely won't be back. read more
