Right off the bat, Pylos has wonderfully attentive service. My friend and I arrived around 5:30pm without a reservation during the last restaurant week and were easily seated. Good to note that the dinner rush is after 7pm. Our server brought out complementary fava dip and pita bread. Always a great sign of hospitality, and the fava was really delicious! For appetizers we ordered the light as air meatballs (afrata keftedes) and the shrimp with ouzo (garides ouzo). The meatballs were soft and tasty but be warned they had a very strong mint flavor. The shrimp were flavored in an elegantly mild tomato sauce vaguely with cream. Very tasty. The grilled baby lamb chops (paidakia) were utterly delicious! The moussaka was okay. It had layers of stewed meat sauce with overtly strong spices, roasted eggplant and zucchini layers, and overly loose bechamel sauce. I prefer my moussaka with milder spice, thicker meat sauce, firm bechamel, and layered potatoes together with the eggplant. To each their own. For dessert we ordered the galactobourekakia which tasted off to me like it had spoiled and the phyllo tasted like old deep fried oil, a bad experience. The mousse ouzo dessert was good but I did not taste the ouzo. All in all, it makes for a pleasant night out with great service, lovely atmosphere, and good food if you know what to order.

Had a great (authentic) meal here with my daughter. It was the first time visiting the restaurant. It is a very nicely decorated space with ample room. It offers an outdoor seating option as well. We were promptly seated by the hostess and our server was great. She spoke Greek which is a plus for me. The staff was very attentive to all our needs. We had just come from having a couple of cocktails so we only drank wine with dinner. We went with a traditional retsina. It was very good quality and quite refreshing. We began the meal with an order of Dolmades and a Horiatiki (village) salad. The Dolmades were excellent. The egg-lemon cream sauce was perfect and the rice and beef mix were cooked perfectly. We followed this with a pistachio crusted fillet of striped bass!! It was amazing! We split this and could barely finish it due to the size. We complemented the bass with the baked Greek giant beans. The meal was truly stellar. We finished with a cup of Greek coffee. To be honest, it was not very good, but it is a minor issue at best. Value was outstanding! Give this place a try. You won't be sorry you did.

Smoked salmon omelettes with Kir Royale, while seated at their elegant bench couch of the main dining area.

Pylos is an excellent Greek restaurant that does so many things well by keeping its menu trimmed down to size. Upon entering, you are immediately impressed by its eye pleasing streamlined interior design and color palette that goes all the way to the ceiling. I made the reservation with no trouble and we arrived a few minutes late with no problem. We were immediately seated at the end of their long couch at the L section. The design runs all the way back to the bar. Surprise, we looked at the streamlined menu evidencing not only a focus on what the kitchen dies well, but a Sunday prix fix menu at a bargain rate of $25 per person, which includes a complimentary flute of champagne, Mimosa or Kir Royale. We opted for the Kir Royale, which was not too sweet, but offered a sweet counterpoint to the savory offerings. The prix fix offers various egg and omelette dishes served with their crispy potatoes and arugula and tomato chunk salad. First came the ice water and hot pita bread served as an appetizer. I naturally asked for olive oil with cracked pepper and enjoyed dipping that warm pita in the olive oil. Simple and delicious. Then came our smoked salmon omelettes with the arugula salad, potatoes, and toast. My friend thought the potatoes demanded ketchup, but I told her to wait for the interaction with the smokes salmon, a simple, but flavorsome interaction, especially given the level of smoke in their salmon. Yes, it's definitely smoked and delicious; though, a thin slice folded neatly into the aesthetically pleasing omelette. A simple and delicious pairing. I asked our server to bring some preserves or jam for the toast. Their strawberry jam tastes unique and went well with that toast, especially sipping the remainder of the Kir Royale. Everything is pared down to simple elegance here at Pylos, but they are a real Greek restaurant. A neighboring table ordered the lamb chops and the sight and aroma of them left an indelible impression. Next time, because this time we had ordered the jumbo grilled shrimp dish on the side, which comes with the arugula salad and rice pilaf with spinach and lemon. The shrimp was slightly overcooked, but still very good and perfectly accompanied by the spinach rice pilaf that was perfectly cooked. Pylos is a restaurant that has an upside as evidenced by their focused menu. The prix fix brunch, offered until 4 on Sundays and perhaps even Saturdays, is one not to be missed at such a great price point. The shrimp tasted and the lamb chops seem demonstrate Pylos has a great upside, along with great service, ambience, and clean restrooms. Our total came to about $84 before tip, which is a good value for East Village. Though I do not think this experience was a four star experience, I will give a rating of 3.7 for the first time. It deserves better than three and a half, but not quite up to four stars, which those lamb chops may warrant next time.

My meal here was very tasty. I tried the giant beans and artichoke moussaka. There was also a complimentary appetizer of pita with a dip. The dip was mild and creamy, and the pita tasted fresh. The moussaka was incredible - full of mild but creamy cheese with a crispy brown top, and layers of artichoke. The subtle herbs and garlic poking through were really nice. The beans were also great, on a rich tomato sauce with plenty of herbs. My meal came out to about $50 after tax and tip. It was worth it for the high-quality food.

It's been a while since I visited last time. I came here for restaurant week menu. It was a great experience. I really appreciate the restaurant putting their featured dishes on the restaurant week menu, unlike many other restaurants that offer only unpopular stuff. Service was good and the vibe is great too. It was a good dinner.

Our favorite Greek restaurant in the City . From the hostess to the server it's just warm and impecable . Food quality is very good , we had the restaurant week menus which is well prices and prices with some red wine . The lamb chops were awesome . Love this place !! It's a local favorite so ambiance is great for a date nights , celebratory occasions or just night out with friends

    Meatballs!

Not the usual quality. Food was bland. Only the chocolate mousse was excellent. Everything else was mediocre at best.

My friend and I came to Pylos for dinner on a Monday night and were very happy with our experience! We had made a reservation just in case a week in advance for 7pm but the place was not really that busy. We got there right on time and were very kindly greeted by the hostess. She led us to our table and let us pick one of the nicer and more spacious corner ones which was very nice of her! This restaurant is super cute, with dim moody lighting, exposed brick and white walls, clay pottery decor, there are evident hints to Greek landscapes. Our waiter was hands down amazing-- he was genuine, fearless about giving us recommendations, and just had such a bubbly, welcoming energy. The menu is very extensive and everything looked delicious. They brought out some complimentary pita and a dip that reminded me of hummus but had an earthier flavor (so either very garbanzo heavy hummus or some fava bean dip... unclear but was delicious). We both ordered what our waiter recommended and were NOT disappointed. - Pistachio crusted bass: this dish was actually phenomenal! I'm used to the Greek food that is more simple, usually a nice simple fillet of fish with olive oil and lemon, but this was an amazing meal. The fish was high quality, was so flaky and tender, and was beautifully marinaded with some spices, very mild mustard, and had a pistachio crust that added a perfect sweet nutty balance. This generously sized filet came over a bed of thinly sliced roasted vegetables (eggplant, carrots, potatoes) stacked together like a lasagna with the mildest goat cheese that was delicious and so aesthetic. I would come back just for this dish alone. - Galaktobourekakia: this was the dessert our waiter recommended and it was a phenomenal choice. These crispy phyllo pastries that are mildly savory and are filled with a very mild but creamy sweet cheese filling with hints of cinnamon and orange zest. There are drizzled with generous amounts of natural honey which overall make this dessert the perfect level of sweetness. Very good to split! Felt very healthy and light but satisfying. Overall, I had a great time at Pylos. The place is super cute and doesn't feel overhyped/ is pleasantly lowkey, all the food was 11/10, and the service brought a big smile to my face! This is the perfect spot for a date or just to catch up with family/friends. I will be coming back here more regularly after the amazing experience.

Located at 128 East 7th Street this gem hits the spot for me! The interior decor transports out of the city and to the islands of Greece! I started with the stuffed grape leaves and saganaki (cheese melted) which were very tasty but for me the star of the evening was the Arni Kotsi Me Meli, Me Mikra Psita Lahanika or the fall off the bone, perfectly seasoned Cretan honey braised lamb shank with roasted baby potatoes and carrots! This dish hit me to my core and had me thinking about it weeks after devouring it. For dessert I topped it off with delectable buttery phyllo triangles filled with greek custard and drizzled with cinnamon and greek mountain honey. They definitely finished off the night with a lightly sweetened flavor complimenting the cinnamon and custard. This place to me is a go to when I just want to go on a mini vacation but only have a few hours to spare!

Fantastic! The food was terrific. We split the Maroulosalata salad, which was huge and easily enough for 4 people. My wife had the pork shank, wow! Exploded with flavor. My wife's friend had the Pastitsio. I had the sirloin steak. All were so delicious. Our server appeared to be confused at various points during our visit. I expected problems, but thankfully none occurred.

The food at Pylos was amazing! We got the braised lamb and wild stripe bass. Both so good. The lamb was so tender. Really enjoyed the pistachio pesto on the fish. Service was a bit on the slower side but it was a busy Friday night. Really nice decor and ambiance.

The best Greek food there is in New York City. I was absolutely blown away by how delicious these dishes where I felt like it was a mix of Greek and Italian hints. The service overall was incredible and our waitress was working so hard to make sure our dinner was enjoyable. We did have the first reservation of the evening and the restaurant was not warmed up so if I could ask the owner to preheat the restaurant, at least an hour before eight that would be great. I don't like sitting there shivering waiting for the facility to warm up. It's not right. The shrimp was extremely fresh, but I'd like to mention the incredible wine list that they have that is imported directly from Greece. The drinks were nice and strong, and all of us really enjoyed having dinner here.

OH MY 10/10 IT WAS CREAMY BUT NOT OVERLY CREAMY. THE CRUST WAS GIVING BROWN BUTTER. IT WAS SO GOOD. OH MY I LOVE. NOT TOO SWEET service: EVERYONE WAS SO NICE & GENUINE. I LOVE IT HERE.

Kiki's has been on my list since I moved to NYC ~5 years ago and it was finally time to try it out!…read moreI went with a group of 4 on a Friday around 6:45pm. Unsurprisingly, there was a long line to put down our names on that gloriously warm and sunny spring evening. We were told the wait time was 1-1.5 hours which honestly went by so fast because there are so many fun places around the area. We got our table at around 8pm in the restaurant area right across the street. I can definitely see the timeless appeal of this place-- the vibes are so fun, the energy is young and vibrant, lights are dim, the music is loud, the smell of sizzling grilled meats and fries fills the space -- all of this hidden behind the facade of a printshop in Chinatown. It's a one-of-a-kind place. The food was pretty good and reasonably priced. We shared: - bottle of orange wine: very generously priced which we easily split amongst us 4. The wine was bright, refreshing and had a lot of body. - dips: we ordered the tzaitziki and the fava bean dip. They accidentally gave us the tirokafteri (or spicy feta) initially which was ironically my favorite dip out of the ones we tried, with the perfect creamy and spicy balance. The tzaitziki was also delicious, refreshing, and cool. The fava bean dip eventually came and it was a bit flat in flavor and texture compared to the other two. It tasted like blended fava beans with some capers on top and no other flavor elements. It was also a bit dry and I was expecting a texture more similar to hummus. The dips came with very delicious pita/regular bread and we also asked for cucumber slices for our gluten free friend (didn't know this was an option but cool!). - octopus: pretty small portion for 4 people but amazing! The octopus was super tender and flavorful. Considering how busy this place is, I was surprised at how well made this was. They have the dish mastered. Highly recommend! Would order again. - gigante beans: tomato bean stew, pretty good and filling! Good to share if you want something a bit more hearty and warm. Also gluten free! Perfect for colder months. - saganaki: I think I would come back exclusively for this alone. It's the perfect dish: the salty and melty cheese is packed inside layers of crispy, flaky, buttery phyllo, with sweet honey on top. This had the perfect balance of flavors and textures. I would order one for myself next time. Definitely a crowd favorite. - mixed grill: the menu said this was for 3 but it was actually a very generous portion for us 4. Delicious meats: it had lamb chops, some chicken and pork souvlaki, Greek sausage, and ground beef patties, all over a bed of well seasoned fries and pita. Truly a stellar dish. Perfect to share and super satisfying. - desserts: we tried the baklava and cheesecake. The baklava came completely without structure and was not that good (too heavy on the cinnamon for my taste and not enough filling), however the cheesecake was rich and creamy with a tangy flavor that perfectly balanced the sweet strawberries and delicious crust! Very well made. My major critique is that the service was quite disappointing. I felt like our waitress was not very kind/ helpful/ was annoyed at us perpetually for no good reason. Additionally, items in our order were messed up or came out too late (which is usually acceptable because we all make mistakes but flagging down anyone for help was virtually impossible). Ultimately, I would probably come again with a group of young people because the food was so good and affordable. The vibe is also pretty unique. However, Kiki's could certainly benefit from polishing its service a bit/ hiring more staff so there is enough attention to customers. While they understandably manage tremendous volumes of people, especially over weekends, that should not come at the expense of the customer experience.

How does this place have a 4.5 star rating?…read more We've been here many times as it's close to home. The food is always a solid 3/5, at best. It doesn't matter if you're getting a horatiki salad, pikilia, souvlaki of any kind, or a piece of salmon. The pita is bad, but everything else is just fine. Then you'll get the bill and ask yourself how you just dropped $250+. $18 for two pieces of halloumi? A 25% tip? And why does my stomach hurt? The servers are kind enough. The hosts are oblivious. Maybe you'll be blessed with a table by the bathroom or a door tonight? Maybe you'll get your delivery within the next hour? Do not ever order delivery from here. Ignore the delay for a moment. Everyone makes slips. $80+ got us 1) a chicken platter 2) two small soggy slices of halloumi 3) a salad with a single lukewarm chicken kebab on the side. The food was fatty, greasy, cold, and looked like it had been leftover and reheated from someone else's plate. Perhaps the delivery kitchen is different than the dine-in one? We were starving, so please pray for us - hopefully no one starts feeling sick tonight. Yasouvlaki is an awesome place to take your parents visiting from the suburbs or another state.
