I opted for the ground beef nachos. The queso was good and the chips were extra crispy, which I loved! However the rest of the nachos were pretty bland. They didn't serve with any salsa. They also had specials, which I didn't see until after I ordered because they were written on a chalk board to the left of the register. It's kind of like an upscale fast food restaurant. Throw away your own plates and trash when done.

I…read morewatched the episode of the Texas Daytipper on Mason and I have been waiting to try Santos Taqueria y Cantina. So glad I did!!! They have Durango style Mexican food. I ordered the barbacoa gordita plate. It comes with two flour gorditas (they have corn too but may take longer to prepare), rice and beans. They have three salsas on the condiment table. The green salsa was my favorite. The barbacoa gordita was so good! They stuffed a tortilla full of barbacoa. They weren't shy about the portion of meat and I am glad they didn't. So good and so filling! This is not the typical restaurant where you sit down at a table and get chips and salsa served. Here you walk in, order your food and drinks at the counter (you can bring in drinks from the wine place next door) and wait for your food to come out. This makes it efficient for them and I don't blame them. I would do the same. This place gets so packed and busy! They had a long wait yesterday (Saturday night) so I am glad I came right when they opened on Sunday. The food is so good. The people here are so warm and welcoming. Can't wait to come back!

It was lunchtime and it was quite busy. Nonetheless service was impeccable. Everything was organized and spotless. Our server was a cousin to the owner. It seems that it's family owned and operated. I believe everything but the desserts are scratch made. My friends Chicken Alfredo was super creamy...like velvet. My Eggplant Parmigiana was fantastic-perfectly cooked and the Marinara was better than my own!!! We should've stopped then, but we just couldn't ...so we shared a generous slice of Italian Cream Cake. This restaurant is dynamite ....well worth the scenic drive!

After a great weekend in Fredericksburg, we find the Barrel House. The southern cuisine on the sign sold it even before we sat down. I'm a big fan of Cajun and creole cooking. We started with the fried boudin balls and gator bites, both were excellent fried to perfection with just a hint spicy bite. I had the chicken fried steak with eggs and hash browns. Steak was tender enough to cut with a fork, and was on point. Cynthia had the breakfast burger which she said was cooked to perfection as well as crispy along the edges. A great meal along with great service which allowed us to get back on the road and headed home with full stomachs. A full stomach and a Dateline podcast made those three hours a little more bearable

When choosing my meat I let the server know that I wanted my meat lean. I asked for a slice brisket and a slice of sirloin. I also got a cup of green beans and coleslaw, and beans. The sides were very good buttttt.... The brisket was just OK, The sirloin was not good.I got the end cut where all the fat is. It was the long piece of fat that goes along the outside of the meat and that's what he chose to give me when I asked for a lean cut! I hardly got to eat any of the sirloin. Once I took the fat off of it there was not very much meat left, the meat that was left was tough and chewy and had pieces of gristle in it that you couldn't even bite through. I was very disappointed, but my dogs are very happy!
