Good breakfast, could have been better. The standard breakfast menu was available, and I ordered a standard meal of eggs and bacon. My egg was alright, but the hashbrowns were soggy and cool, not warm or crispy. I suspect cooked earlier and then microwaved. (don't know for sure.). The waitress recommended the biscuit over toast - my biscuit was doughy and also served cool to the touch. Prices are very reasonable, however. Coffee was good. When they first opened food was great and you would be full when you left, not anymore. Salad came in a very small sauce type dish, no longer get green beans with chicken fried steak. Another place that starts out great then turn south. If you are not making money go up on the price people will understand. read more

Stopped in for a quick breakfast before I went and visited a relative at the close by care home. Well, sign on the door says This Is not a fast food restaurant, the food says differently. It wasn't fast that's for sure but one look and I knew it came off the back of a truck straight to the freezer. Nothing homemade here.. at least not on my plate. I had a senior breakfast 1 egg, hash browns, sausage and biscuit. Coffee. The coffee was really tasted but I had to ask each time for a refill and ask for a glass of water. Those hash browns took the cake though... seriously hash browns are not that difficult or expensive to make... do better. That takes me to service. Meh, she was there but not attending to me. Anything I asked for was brought but nothing more. The simplest things.. no ketchup, no water, no napkins, no coffee refills. Meh. She could have asked me one time if I needed anything but not once did she come by.... I had to stop her to get service. The place was clean, spacious, it is a nice restaurant in a small town so maybe that's the issue. They are used to what they get. read more

A very good breakfast spot in San Saba. We had a variety of dishes at our table all were very good. The Ham was great, kids loved the biscuits and gravy, and the huevos rancheros were legit. Highly recommend. read more

Yes, we went to Mama J's on May 4. I was very surprised the food was very good. The waitress was very friendly. The service was great and I had the chicken fried steak fingers and they were delicious. Very very good. I will stop there and eat again and my husband had the patty melt he really liked it, the food was just delicious!! read more

We stopped in to this nice place for a late lunch. My husband ordered a hamburger with onion rings, and I ordered the steak sandwich. Nothing fancy, but I asked for the condiments (mayo and mustard) to the side. I then asked for sour cream for my fries. When my meal came, the mayo, mustard, and sour cream were on the steak. Not ideal. The waitress offered fresh bread only, but I just moved the bread and ate the steak. Overall, the experience was just okay. read more

We have family that live in San Saba and there are only a handful of places to eat. We were pleasantly surprised to find Mama Js on our most recent trip to town. Stacy, our waitress was soooo nice and sweet! Our kids LOVED their pancakes. Coffee was good and the breakfast tacos were AMAZING, we ate here twice during our weekend here. All employees are so sweet and accommodating. Highly recommend supporting this new small business! read more

Excellent Chicken Fried Steak. I have had it several times and it is just as good each time. I will have it again.

Cute restaurant, very clean and the waitstaff were attentive and polite. We just grabbed some burgers to eat there. The 1/4 pound burger was plenty to eat and good. The fries were lackluster. Think frozen crinkle fries you do in your oven and eat them 30min after you've cooked them. They could really up their french fry game and hit it out of the park. read more

One must understand: this is a small town and good help is hard to find. I've eaten here three times (I don't live in SS) and each time the food has been excellent. Service is sometimes slow (refer back to my first comment), so have a little patience !! read more
