I've now eaten here a few times when in the general area visiting Sarah L and family. The staff at Southside Tavern are simply the friendliest. They make you feel like you're at home - or their home - even though you're in a happening spot in town. The interior feels like a modern pub - no frills, but plenty of space. The food is very good - I've not had anything bad here yet. The menu has plenty of options. They use tallow oil and everything seems to be prepared to order. If you're anywhere near Goldthwaite, this place is absolutely worth a stop. The Whoop & Holler burger is easily one of the best burgers I've had. The beef was cooked perfectly, and the combination of beer-braised onions and grilled poblanos on jalapeño sourdough brought everything together with incredible flavor. You can tell there's real thought put into the menu. It has that perfect country feel - laid back, comfortable, and the kind of place you can bring family or meet up with friends. On the journey home we stumbled upon the town of Goldthwaite. Interestingly enough there is this restaurant right off Hey 16 called the Southside Tavern! Steaks are the Saturday Special so a 16 oz Ribeye, cooked Outside on the open flame is the way to go! Garlic Cheese Curds come out hot and fresh with a dipper of ranch. Stopped here briefly on a road trip, and I wish we could have stayed longer! We called in our order - cactus country wrap, and the turkey trap (made into a wrap instead of the normal sandwich), with regular and sweet potato fries. The location is charming and inviting, with a gorgeous bar. When we arrived our meals were all packed up to go. Both wraps were absolutely delicious. Turkey was smoky and juicy... never knew a turkey wrap could be so tasty! Hubs was more than happy with his wrap as well. The fries are out of this world - super fried on the outside and soft and wonderfully potato-y inside. Whole length of the potato. Great fries. Highly recommend. There was a side patio where we could have stayed to eat with our dogs, but we ended up eating in the car to continue our drive. We will look forward to future stops here for sure! read more

We were in town for hunting season to open and went there for dinner on Friday. The place had a singer who was very good. It took a bit of a wait to get drinks and also to wait for food. The bill was 100 bucks for 4 domestic beers and two burgers and one appetizer. A bit pricey I'd say. The waitress was very nice and was apologetic. Plenty of parking. read more

The Cactus Country Chicken Wrap is a life changer and will make your taste buds dance! It's large enough for two if you're not a heavy eater. I split it with my niece along with the sweet potato fries and we each thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Online ordering was easy and had we not been passing through on a road trip with time constraint would have stayed and visited with the locals and had a couple of drinks because the place just felt homely and welcoming. We stopped for a late lunch on our way to Fredericksburg. The food was delicious and the service was great! We had the fried pickles and jalapeños for an appetizer, my hubby ordered the bacon burger with fries, and I had the pulled pork quesadilla. This place was such a pleasant surprise tucked away in a small town! The hand crafted drinks and DELICIOUS food were amazing! The sangria and watermelon margarita are really tasty!! We started off with the Reuben Tater Bullets. Yum! The were hot and fresh with a great thin crisp on the outside and soft potato/corned beef inside. Complete with thousand island dressing for dipping. We split the Southside Melt. The brisket had great flavor and the green chili queso was the perfect compliment to the meat and bun! The sweet potato and the regular fries are cut and battered in house. They are delicious! Customer service was also incredible! Our waitress was also the bartender and she did a phenomenal job! A few food items were a little delayed arriving to the table, but overall I thought our waitress did an excellent job. She took care off special requests for the kids w/o batting an eye. The food was very good. Lot of burgers and fries ordered. Everyone had good reviews for those items. I had the meatloaf and roasted potatoes. Meatloaf was bacon wrapped w/ a Sriracha glaze. That glaze added a nice bit of spice to an already good meatloaf. Roasted potatoes we way better than average as well.
