I ordered from Little Basil solely because they sell Chinese donuts and I haven't had those bad boys in YEARS. I am thrilled to report that they were incredible - absolutely everything I remembered. They really satisfied my craving. I also tried the egg roll, steamed pork dumplings, chicken chow fun, and crispy orange chicken. The orange chicken was pretty decent, though I would have thought choosing the maximum spice level would have made for a spicier meal. Even at full-heat, it wasn't really spicy. The chow fun was how I expected and tasted just fine with the addition of sriracha. Overall this isn't a bad Chinese food place, but I'm giving them 4 stars for selling incredible donuts. read more

It's a local Chinese place, it's aight. This place does some things better than others. But to me, often times their items lack a little flavor. I will say their egg rolls and fried rice are on point. Nothing is more disappointing than a Chinese place trying to be bougie and make their fried rice brown. Just give me the yellow rice please! Little basil does yellow rice and they do it very well. It is my favorite thing on their menu, which isn't saying much. Their noodles are hella disappointing, as is their hunan and garlic sauces. Just pretty void of flavor and a bit watery. My husband says their beef and chicken on a stick is the best ever. I'm so happy it did. I officially love the Apple Chicken. It's a unique flavor, and one that you don't see often. It's a sign that they're trying to be better than the norm. My favorite entrees from Little Basil are Chicken Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, Beef Chow Fun, and Shrimp with Mixed Vegetables. I had the Mongolian beef combination platter, an order of pan fried dumplings and barbecued beef strips on a stick. Overall I give the entire meal a 4 out of 10. Rice is expected to be moist and a bit sticky but was in fact dry. The Mongolian beef was very salty. I placed my water around 10 PM so I guess some of it might have been sitting around a bit. I've lived in this area for over thirty years and this is the first time I have tried Little Basil. At last, I have found take out Chinese that is worth bragging about. Tonight I ordered General Tso and Shrimp pad Thai (bonus that they also offer Thai!). They were both excellent. I would choose here over Lucky Wok (no flavor) any day. Little Basil is the PREMIER location for Chinese food near Swarthmore. They beat out all the other competition (Cheng Hing, Happy Wok, etc.) without question. While they are marginally more pricey ($1.25 delivery fee, dishes are $0.50-$1.00 more)... Let me just say, dinner box. $7.25 for a popular entree, white/fried rice, wonton soup/eggroll/soda. This is a ridiculous business model but while it lasts TAKE ADVANTAGE! The portions are generous, the food is fresh, the veggies are fresh (this is incredibly rare for a takeout place), and the delivery is PUNCTUAL (they average 20min for Swarthmore, even though they're in Morton, and they're open until 11:30pm on weekends). The delivery guys have been awesome, especially Peter who speaks Korean and is an amazing chef. General Tso's, chicken with broccoli, honolulu chicken, all amazing choices (they also offer Thai options like Pad Thai). I order from this place out of loyalty and respect for their high standards. RIP OFF ON COUPON: Every time I order food i use a coupon that this restaurant has, spend 20.00 and you get something free, well today i ordered it was 19.58 and I said add a 2 Liter bottle of diet Coke or Pepsi so I can use the coupon, well the lady said btw she is also the owner, said soda doesn't count anymore pick something else, I said since when it always counted in the past plus it doesn't say that anywhere on the menu. She said well it's new. I said how about if I just cancel the order, she said okay so she lost a customer over $.42, Unbelievable than an owner would lose a customer over something like that that's horrible customer service since she couldn't figure it out I wasn't going to tell her. I know that I've been spoiled by South Philly and Chinatown when it comes to Asian food, but I can still appreciate cheap take-out. That said, this place is weak sauce. My leftover pork fried rice has been sitting in the fridge for two days, which is unheard of for me. I've gotten the pad thai, the shrimp dumplings, the pork fried rice, and the wonton soup, and each item has lacked any flavor beyond saltiness. The wontons are soggy, the broth is flavorless. The pad thai was basically greasy noodles, although the shrimp in it were good. Sad. I was really excited when I saw this place had opened, since it's within walking distance from my apartment, but after two visits, I won't be back. read more

I eat at Little Basil frequently! I live in the area and am so happy to have found this gem. I do not eat meat and I typically get there vegetable and tofu focused dishes. The veggies are always very fresh! The staff is very friendly as well. I have tried several other Chinese restaurants in the area (like when Little Basil is closed) and I always come back. Im not one to be picky about food. ive actually never reviewed a restaurant before in my whole life. this needs to be addressed though. so my boyfriend decided to order from little basil instead of viman thai twice in the last 2 weeks because he wanted delivery. first order was ok, he got me pad thai. wasnt viman thai quality but it was alright. this last order though... oh. my. god. he got me some type of chicken with cashews? theres no way that was chicken i was eating. it was so tough and stringy i had to spit out half of what i was eating because i could not separate the food enough with my teeth to swallow it. once i actually choked on it for a second. i even contemplated taking a picture of what i spit out cause... it cant be chicken... over half my order is now in the trash can. i ended up just eating the dry white rice it came with. i dont know if that can happen to chicken from frying it too long or what, but this place should really try harder at not almost killing its customers. never eating from this place again. read more

I am a professional chef of well over 20 years and I just tried takeout from Little Basil for the first time. I am 100% pleased with their food! Mongolian Beef was full of rich spicy flavor and a colorful assortment of veggies. Beef was tender and cooked nicely. Pad Thai wasn't completely traditional but we loved it anyway. We also had pan fried dumplings that were better than what you'd get from any other Delco Asian takeout. Prices were good food was excellent, just don't plan on eating in. It's basically takeout only. I want these people to do well, their food's awesome! And to the previous reviewer: I eat in South Philly and Chinatown noodle houses too, but they ain't in Morton, 5 minutes from my house. Little Basil is close to where I live, and it's very convenient when I have a hankering for Chinese Take-Out. The menu is inexpensive, and most of the food is great. We love the lettuce wraps, steamed pork dumplings, and wonton soup for starters. Last time we ordered i had the Chicken Lo Mein, which was passable, but not the best I've had, but my boyfriend got the Pineapple Pork and it was absolutely delicious. They have a deal that when you spend $10, you get 2 free egg rolls, so we always do that as well. The egg rolls are decent (for free they're damn good). Food normally decent, nothing special though. Tonight was exceptionally bad. Got boneless spare ribs and general tsos chicken. Ribs were like eating rocks and GT was soft and a little weird tasting.
