We called to explain that the philly roll was ruined, and now we don't now what roll in front of us to trust. Which opened up the haggling phase over how much of the meal was actually ruined, from the standpoint that you're not right to be suspicious of every hand rolled piece of sushi in front of you. And who the hell wants to do forensic paper towel analysis on each piece of sushi on the phone in the middle of a date? We were told to cancel it through uber. The delivery guy was great. I was staying at The Inn at Swarthmore a couple blocks away, and when I searched for restaurants in walking distance, Bamboo Bistro had one of the highest ratings here on Yelp. Now, no offense to Bamboo Bistro, but I had very low expectations coming in for dinner. I say that, because where I come from, you stick to one cuisine and do it well, but Bamboo Bistro touts itself as a Chinese, Japanese, and Thai restaurant. Convenience won out, and I walked over to the restaurant. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with an annoying alarm, as the credit card register was crying out to have its receipt tape replaced. The lobby had a couple of customers waiting, and an employee was frantically running back and forth trying to replace the tape and bring to go orders up from the kitchen. The restaurant was pretty full, as it doesn't have that much seating. In the few minutes I stood there, four people picked up to go orders. One of the two waitresses pointed me toward a round table in the middle of the room, and she later brought me a menu. Even though the restaurant only has about 12 tables, the two servers were running around in a panic the whole time. I must say though, the woman helping me was definitely apologetic and hospitable when she stopped long enough to be at my table. The menu definitely has an array of cuisines. I ended up trying their XLB, as a whole page of the menu was dedicated to the soup dumplings, so I figured it must be a speciality, right? I also got an order of their House Special Chow Fun. The table had containers of low-sodium soy, vinegar, and dumpling sauce (sweet), but I was not given a dish of vinegar with ginger. The XLB were large and soupy, but the skin was a little thick at the top. They were better than the frozen ones you can buy at Costco, but they didn't come close to other versions I've had here in the Bay Area. The chow fun was surprisingly good! It was flavorful and the beef and chicken were tender. The shrimp were small and overcooked, but overall, I enjoyed it. I would totally order that again. I only tried a couple of Chinese dishes at Bamboo Bistro, so I can't really speak to the Japanese, Thai, or sushi. Maybe I'll give those a try the next time in town. We'll have to see how adventurous I'm feeling. For now, let's just say I enjoyed the chow fun enough that I would gladly give Bamboo Bistro another try the next time in town. read more

Finally had a sit down dinner! We've been eating here for over 3 years and we picked a night where the 20 somethings had a child like birthday party and the front of the house had to yell at them to keep quiet. Keep in mind this is a college place now, so often the clientele is living off ramen and Instagram. Bamboo is getting 4 starts from their fresh orders, swift service and attention to detail. It was like they KNEW we just wanted a quiet night out, and we got that. I asked for a dish and the young lady got it wrong from the noise being so loud. It was disgusting and they took it right off the check. Very accommodating. By then we were stuffed so it was time to go home(we ran out of wine too) I'm going to continue my takeout orders, but as long as there is any of nearby BYOB with food like this, will be back. Bamboo is very friendly. However, it still leaves a lot to desired. While they have an extensive menu, much of it feels heavy and Americanized. Their udon is alright but I think could go for a cheaper price. I was not a fan of their chow fun and portions on their sushi and sashimi run small. It can be crowded inside when there is a dinner rush and many people are picking up orders. There is still no indoor dining which I think is perfectly fine and hasn't stopped business. read more

This is a nice spot right next to Swarthmore College. I stopped here for some sushi. I ordered a California roll along with shrimp and broccoli with white rice. My friend ordered chicken teriyaki. The food was really good. The sushi was VERY fresh. Shrimp and broccoli was quite tasty too, the shrimp were just kinda small. Chicken teriyaki got a 3.5 out of 5 stars. By then, 2 of the kids had headed to their grandparents, so we were down to 8. What a menu! If you can't find something you like on it, you're crazy. They've got Chinese, Japanese, and Thai, and from what we tasted, they do everything well. I got the Schezuan Shrimp with extra veggies and the Shanghai Baby Bok Choi. Others around the table enjoyed the pad thai, the chicken lo mein, and some California rolls. The service was attentive, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was casual enough that no one minded our small children. Thank god for Bamboo Bistro. As one of only two restaurants in town, I had little expectations for this place. Also, as a general rule, I expect that a restaurant serving many kinds of food does none of them well. Luckily, this place subverts that trend. It is NOT a fancy, amazing restaurant. But, they serve some very solid dishes across the cuisines. As an appetizer, the pork soup dumplings are delightful. They're not the best soup dumplings you've ever had, but they have a flavorful broth on the inside and are fun to eat. I usually go for the sushi rolls- my go to's are Salmon Avocado, Tuna Avocado, Yellowtail Scallion. All are very tasty with generous portions of decent quality fish and served room temperature as sushi should be. If I want Thai, the Green Curry is well portioned (usually take it back for another late night snack) and has a nice spice to it, as green curry should. Beef portions could be better, but overall the dish is quite tasty. Bamboo Bistro is a Swarthmore treasure. It's reasonably priced and has such a variety of options and flavors that it's hard to ever get sick of it. The service is also very friendly. We were passing through the town of Swarthmore. Saw this restaurant which had great reviews. When we got there, we were told they are takeout only. This wasn't mentioned anywhere in he reviews or on their site. Ordered drunken noodles and Penang curry - usual Thai dishes. The noodles were soggy and too sweet. The curry was watered down and boiled chicken pieces were added to it. The food was tasteless and a complete waste of money. Would not recommend it to anyone. read more

Battling some major congestion and figured I could use a hot&sour soup. This then turned into ordering some sushi rolls and crab rangoons as well. Cool thing about this experience was that I was able to order via EAT24 online which was super fast and easy...worked out perfectly as I hardly have a voice now too! Picked up my order in less than 15 mins. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna roll, thunder roll, a pint of hot and sour soup, and the crab rangoons. Sushi rolls were very mediocre. Mostly rice, not a lot of fish. Hot and sour soup was OK just would prefer it to be much more hot and much more sour. Crab rangoons were a last second impulsive buy, and I wouldn't recommend them at all. Definitely lacked taste and were like any store bought frozen ones. Service was fast and the food was not "bad". Bamboo bistro always hits. They are options for everyone. I like to start with scallion pancakes and my favorite entrees are the chicken fried rice, and all time favorite is the general Tsos tofu! Even better than the chicken general Tsos, it's crispy , comes with a lot of tofu some brocolli and you get a side of rice. Yushiang brocolli is also good side addition, while it's broccoli and seems healthy it is drenched in sauce so good to be aware of. This place continues to decline. Idk what it is about this area but there are no good sushi spots near here. They're also all ran by untalented "chefs", this is not authentic. Repeat, NOT authentic. Nothing good comes out a Chinese Japanese style restaurant, pick one style or fusion - not both. I've ordered a few times through Uber recently and their sushi is not good + so inconsistent. Sashimi tuna colors were way off from the tuna roll... aren't they prepared virtually at the same time?! Oh, the best part it was fishy... fresh tuna never should taste fishy + that was terrible. On another occasion, I ordered the vegetable Udon. Now if you're a foodie like myself, we know that udon has a specific flavor + style. This udon was clearly made with basic noodles + the worst part was the broth!! The broth was basic Wonton Soup broth with udon style noodles and random Chinese vegetables! Like what is this?? Only 3 wontons. Every other chinese restaurant gives 5 wontons in a small order. It was mostly broth. Also ordered Triple delight Hunan which looked horrible and was floating in grease! This is probably the worst chinese take-out I had seen. The only saving grace was that the owner was very polite and apologetic and offered to replace the order or refund my money. I ordered from here based on the good reviews and the fact it was on yelp's eat 24 app. The only reason I gave this place two stars was based on price and easy parking. I got a veggie spring roll, vegetable dumplings and a sweet potato tempura roll. I took one bite of the sushi roll and threw out the rest. The sweet potato was uncooked and the quality of the sushi rice and nori was not good. The veggie spring rolls were okay but the dumplings were awful! They were green but extremely doughy. This has become our go to take out Chinese restaurant in the Delco area. We've tried the Sesame Beef, Chicken Fried Rice, Szechuan Eggplant, Chicken Lo Mein and General Tso Chicken. Though they also have seating inside we've only done take out, and from their Japanese menu only tried the Yaki Udon which is also recommended. If you have a chance, I highly recommend trying your standard choice of dishes of a Chinese menu and be ready to add this restaurant to your routine of take out Chinese. read more
