Y'all... if you haven't been to Lit yet, run! This store is my go-to for any last minute outfit needs. It's conveniently in the north end and has tons of great brands like show me your mumu, Steve Madden, and so many more! It's a little pricey, but you get what you pay for with the high quality brands and on-trend pieces. Their shoes and accessories are also amazing! I'm a huge online shopper, but Lit is great because they have things that I would order from Revolve, but I'm able to try them on in person. They also do weekly lives on their Instagram, which is helpful to see what the items look like on different body types! Love love love lit! read more

Do not buy from the store. I bought a dress for 135 dollars and the quality was so cheap. It got ruined after I wore it once because of the flimsy fabric. The owners and staff are highly unprofessional and did not accept to return, refund, or give me anything back. The sales associates told me they were going to give me store credit and then lied and said they never said that to me, after their manager clearly told them to take back their statement. They also stalked my Instagram and made me feel uncomfortable. This store clearly does not care about its customers and will do nothing for you if they sell you damaged products. Also, the manager convinced me to get the dress because of the good quality (even tho I told her it's not in my budget), how ironic. read more

Story Time - so I was getting ready for my bridal shower and the zipper on my dress broke (from a different store). With 20 minutes to spare I had to find something to wear and I came to LIT because they always have an unbelievably tempting selection. Upon arriving, I asked the ladies working for help and both of them immediately went above and beyond to help me find something I loved. They filled a dressing room with options in my size and stood by in case I needed anything. I ended up with not one but two dresses that I loved more than my original and my day was turned around for the better. Lit - a phrase the young kids use when something is cool or poopin So with schematics out of the way, the boutique is lit. No instagram cheaply made clothing sold here... The clothes are cute and the skirts I felt were nice and sturdy. No flimsy polyester, only the heavy kind. With that being said and it pains me to say this: THE PRICE IS TOO DAMN HIGH!!!!!!!!!!! $200 for a skirt. Made of polyester. Hecho en China. Fabrique en China. Made in China. Nope. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE: 1 rating, rude employees who are unwilling to accommodate selling me damaged merchandise Prices: so overpriced. Nice clothes but sooo over priced I bought a $250 Medium dress for my law school graduation and as soon I put the dress ALL 4 of the cheap buttons broke off, two on the top and two on the bottom. In sliding the dress over me I got some bronzer on the dress and because of that the store wouldn't exchange it for store credit. The manager embarrassed me in front of everyone insinuating the buttons broke off because I couldn't fit in the dress and then tried to accuse me of returning a worn dress. I used to love LIT Boutique but as of late, I don't think I'll be shopping there anymore, after 6 years of being a loyal customer. Clothing: Their clothes have gotten progressively less cute and somehow more expensive at the same time. The quality of the clothes is not worth the price tag (e.g. $200 for a hat). In addition, one of the biggest reasons for going to a boutique is to find UNIQUE yet trendy clothing that makes you feel special, fashionable, and chic. At this point, I could get anything in that story from Forever21, H&M, or Zara for half the price. Even their accessories are bad quality. I bought fashion tape from them that tore upon first use and was not sticky whatsoever ($25 for a pack of 7). Their rings bend and tarnish within weeks. Not worth it. Service: The sales people are EXTREMELY pushy and in my many experiences, they will incessantly bother you/follow you until you either choose to purchase something or leave the store. The environment was never welcoming for me as a person of color, and now that I think about it I never saw a brown/colored employee or patron in that store in 6 YEARS. Lastly, beware the 7-day return policy (which they do not make you aware of when you're making your purchase), which I think is slick and dishonest. tldr; if you want unique, beautiful boutique fashion that is worth the price tag, go somewhere else on newbury or if you just like the style but are working on a budget, go to zara. whatever the case is, just don't go to LIT Boutique. read more

Every time I go into this store, it's almost impossible to not buy absolutely every thing. When I am overwhelmed by so many cute things, the girls who work here are extremely helpful in putting outfits together. Specifically, Ary is absolutely amazing at her job. I go in when I know she is working because she goes above and beyond to help me find something for what ever the occasion might be. She truly cares about her customers and makes every experience pleasant and exciting. read more

Safety while shopping! Positivity is so critical now especially and we all need something new to look and feel great. Even an accessory helps. Nice selection in pink or sage. You can get in and out quickly. (Under ten minutes.)The staff social distances and works fast if you need assistance. Very welcoming. Fashionista Ami was friendly and efficient. Loved her choices. -Wednesday late afternoon review- There was two associates and one manager today at LIT boutique. They were very helpful with tips and styles without being pushy. If you give them a general idea of what you're looking for, you'll get some great pieces from this store. They receive new shipments daily from various trade shows. Each design usually comes with limited amount of sizes. There's also a small section of sale items, but I didn't find any goodies. Go and take a look at LIT if you're in the North End, you'll probably find a great top out of there! Prices average from $50--$100 for tops. read more

Meh. I'm not crazy about this place. At first glance, the clothes are all adorable (albeit expensive, but, yes, that's what you'd expect at a boutique in Boston), and the sales girls were all really friendly. However, I bought a dress for $80 (more than I'd usually spend on one piece of clothing), and the zipper broke within an hour of wearing it. I was angry that the dress was so cheaply made, and even more angry when the store would not let me return the dress because it had been "already worn." I understand that they can't re-sell it, but I also don't want to invest more time and money into getting it repaired and then having it break again. They did end up offering to repair it, so I'm waiting to see how the repair turns out and if the dress becomes a bit more durable. Overall, a bit disappointed... read more

I found myself walking into this store recently when I saw some handbags in the window that I recognized from Planet Blue, a solid boutique. After having recently moved to the North End, I was happy to find a boutique that carries a range of fashion more my style. I do like that they carry things like House of Harlow 1960 and are keen to the latest trends. With that said, as much as I discovered a number of items I liked in this store, I looked at a lot of the labels around the store and felt a little disappointed that much was made in China. Unfortunately today this is largely unavoidable, but I always try to avoid buying goods made likely in a factory somewhere in China or Mexico. With that said, the prices here are not cheap, but I wouldn't call it expensive either. But I have a hard time paying $250 for a bag that's made in China, even if it is leather. However, if you find an item in a particular style that you really like and you can't find anywhere else, and it's made reasonably well, I guess you can't do much about it. This place curates good styles. But, the store does often promote substantial sales through social media which is nice so you can get great discounts when you're tuned in. The sales girls and customer service though were ok. One girl patiently helped me decide between choosing a bag one day, but I returned today and the girls in the store were not exceptionally nice. I wasn't welcomed (perhaps I'm old fashioned) and they pretty much ignored me the entire time while attending to another female for like 20 minutes. I just didn't get a super friendly vibe. With that said, I was dressed like a rag in head-to-toe sweatpants from working at home all day, but that honestly shouldn't matter. I sure hope not. I'll come here again sporadically though because the styles are good and it's close to home. read more

I was born and raised in Manhattan, and I go to school downtown, so I know clothing, pretty much. I come to this store every time I'm in Boston. Lit always has such cute finds -- stylish, but not expensive. I've bought three dresses here, and I've gotten countless compliments on all of them. In fact, two of my favorite dresses are from here, and they beat out dresses I got from Cavalli and Catherine Malandrino. Cutest boutique in Boston! We saw it on our way to brunch , and totally fell in love with it! They have a great selection of dresses, blouses, accessories, purses ...everything your lil heart desires and the prices are very affordable! I was able to snatch a great summer dress for $46!! and bought a pair of earrings for $5! The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Def a gem in Boston, check it out! read more

LIT gets 5 stars, not for the clothes (mostly ill-fitting and overpriced) but for the excellent service. Seriously, I've never been treated with so much respect and kindness upon entering a store in my entire life. The truth of the following statement is unfortunate but.... being African-American, I'm usually ignored or closely monitored whenever I enter a store. It was so refreshing to walk into a store and be greeted with such warmth and have my every need met. Out of the 10+ items I tried on, only 2 things (a pair of pants and a dress) fit me well. The pants were the only thing I left the store with.... but I was satisfied with that. I do have an unconventional pear-like body shape. I look forward to visiting LIT again. I came here with a group of my best friends, and for a small shop, we spent an immense amount of time looking at everything. The staff was incredibly helpful and some of the coolest women I've ever met! Their prices are on the high end of the affordable spectrum, but the product is so worth it. Definitely a cute, friendly boutique in the North End. As expected, you've boutique prices (a bit pricey), but this place isn't high-end and snooty, so you get a great shopping experience here! Accessories are on point, dressing rooms are bright and clean, and the clothes racks are well organized. I picked up some jeans and rain boots on sale here recently. Salesperson was very helpful, and offered her advice on the shoe selection: "Oh yes, I own this and another pair of Hunters, and they just make rainy days easy! You are so comfortable and most importantly not soaked all day long." They've a few eco-friendly fabric pieces. Just a heads up: if you buy jeans made with tengel fabric, it is actually pretty delicate (tough, comfy fabric for wear, but delicate for wash). It will shrink on the first wash more than other fabrics will, but afterwards, they've an easy fit. read more

99% of the time if I have an event which calls for a new outfit (which 1. I'm ALWAYS going to events, and 2. They ALWAYS call for new outfits), it will come from LIT. And I always always always get compliments on every single one. I used to be a regular at the Newbury shop for the first 5 years I lived in Boston in the Back Bay, and have since shifted to the Hanover shop as I moved a few months ago (rather unlucky for me - the move - since I now must resist temptation as I pass their windows at least twice daily). The girls are fantastically friendly and truly helpful. As a long-time retail veteran of Jasmine Sola (an old Boston favorite of the wealthy European tourists and generally fashionable locals, for those unfamiliar), I appreciate their genuinely thoughtful and helpful approach to customer service. For a boutique that couldn't be considered high end, this is unparalleled in this city. I typically have no problem finding at least 27 things I need, but if ever I falter, they swiftly lead me to something great. The dress selection is perfect for my taste, and the range of prices can't be beat for the twenty-something social butterfly -- for anywhere from $60 to $350, there is certainly something for every devoted stylista, whatever her whim. Tops usually run upwards from $40. The denim selection could probably use some help, to be honest, but I'm admittedly a designer snob when it comes to denim. It's reasonably priced though. I will say that I have NO idea where the $5-10 earrings are that I saw mentioned in another review.........unless I somehow missed the bargain bin hidden beneath the cash wrap. I never... ? I thought Danielle E. was right on with the price range $30-$70 and Lit is right on in their pricing. I went to Lit last week to find a cute dress for an upcoming vacation. They had a nice selection of cute dresses appropriate for an evening out. The prices were very reasonable and the clothing was great quality. I had trouble deciding what I should buy because there were so many great options! The one downside to this store is that the sales associates were not very attentive to the needs of the customers. Although they were very nice once I approached them for assistance, they spent a lot of time talking to one another instead of paying attention to the customers in the store. With a small boutique like Lit, customers should receive a warm friendly welcome. I went to the Newbury Store several days after my experience in the North End and would have to say that if I go back to Lit, I would choose the Newbury location instead of the North End location. We also walked past this idly after a nice evening across the street. We wanted to walk off dinner before we went to dessert, and my friends and I gravitated towards this "lit" up boutique. The girls in here are VERY helpful, and not pretentious like the other boutique shops or posh thrift shops on newbury.. (like why are you snooty, your store is a thrift shop! But, I digress). I LOVED their jewelry section-- like $5 for earrings by the cashier, and $10 or $15 for earrings I ALWAYS get compliments on them, and they definitely look like they cost much more than what I paid. They also have amazinggggg leggings for the winter ($20 each, but WAY better than what they have at H&M and Target, and similar to what they have at DKNY for half the price). Go in and ask for their leggings.... with short dresses/skirts and able to cover up your legs completely. I don't show my legs and arms for religious reasons, and this helps me out if I'm wearing boots and skirts and don't want anything showing. I love this place! They also have nice dress/outfit selection, but I didn't purchase them becaue it wasn't my particular style. read more

This is the best boutique for price, service and selection. They have the most unique selection of dresses for almost any occasion and you can easily find a stunning dress for around $80. After searching countless department stores and boutiques for a dress to wear to a wedding, I came here and found a gorgeous off-the-shoulder blue number for $75. The staff was incredibly helpful, pulling suggested dresses for me as I tried on my picks in the dressing room (I ended up going with one of their picks). The dress received more compliments than any dress I've purchased at a Bloomingdales or Saks. Really cute casual clothes too and great sundresses for summer. Jewelry section is also good. read more

Not impressed at all. I was walking Hanover street and noticed a pretty dress on a maniquin outside of this boutique, which I had never seen before. I decided to go in and check it out. I didn't even manage to make it to a rack yet - and I saw a tag sticking out of a dress that said "Made in China." When I ever felt and saw the quality of the clothes in this store, I couldn't believe what they were charging for this junk. $98 for a horrendously manufactured dress. And then $88 for a pair of pleather, obviously fake looking shoes. Terrible. Go to Wet Seal, it's the same exact stuff. Definitely not a "boutique" in the slightest. read more

Granted there seems to be less items in a size large available in store anymore (what gives Lit) however the accessories here are, in my opinion, the best picks in the city. Some of the clothes are cute, but nothing my 16 year old daughter wanted to buy. Prices are a little high, but there were some items that were $50 or less. My biggest complaint with this store is that not one employee even acknowledged us as customers. No welcome to the store, no offer to assist us. There were three employees working and we were the only two shoppers in the store. One employee was feverishly typing something into the computer/cash register. The other two were busy chit chatting. Not a very customer-friendly store. On the plus side, the air conditioning keeps the store cool. read more

I have bought a few really nice dresses (one for graduation, one for going out) and some awesome finds from the sale rack. I would have given this place 5 stars because it was ( yes past tense, WAS) my favorite favorite store for the last 2 to 3 years, but on my most recent - & last- visit, i was very disappointed. I have been pretty stressed out lately & needed to boost my spirits by treating myself to a shopping spree. What better feeling than having a thousand dollars to spend in your favorite store? Its been a year since i gave myself a whole new wardrobe. I was looking forward to spending a few hours on a (slow) Tuesday evening playing dress-up & pampering myself!! & only two employees were working, a blonde and this new cute little brunette girl who worked there was helping me all evening; picking out items for me, taking my stuff to the fitting room, carrying convos with me.... she was providing excellent customer service. I browsed the entire store, picking out anything that caught my eye & sent it to the fitting room. Since you were only allowed 6 items in the room at a time (and i had about 25-30 different pieces at most), i had a belt looped on a hanger which was on a rolling rack with the rest of my items, & that rack was on the floor outside of the dressing rooms.The girl helping me was standing there at the rack handing me items as i needed them and helping me with zipping and hooking dresses, etc etc. I asked for the belt.... she said what belt? .. ugh, so i opened the door to the fitting room all the way to observe the items on the rack and show her where the belt was. the belt was as she said, not there. so i throw on an outfit and come out of the room. the employee and i were looking through the rack of clothing i had picked out and did not find the belt. so we walk over to the wall where all belts were located & did not find it there either. i asked the girl to check with the other employee, perhaps she took it or a customer took it, maybe someone purchased it?? i had not seen the belt since i took it off the wall, about an hour prior to my asking for it. none of us could find the belt. the blonde employee, walks over to me and the new employee and starts asking me questions about the belt. so i described it to her and told her where exactly i put the belt and that i had not seen it since i draped it over the jean hanger and the brunette took it to the rack - while i was still shopping at the time. after all that, she then says "are you sure you didnt take it in the fitting room? maybe you accidentally put it in your purse ? you have two bags in the fitting room. maybe you thought it was yours?" i was so mad, then i got offended then i got embarrassed! not only did she say this in front of the new employee, but in front of customers whom were also in fitting rooms a few feet away, and customers walking around the store (which isnt large - its very small actually)!!! youre not thinking i accidentally put it in my purse, you think i stole it!!! but you cant say or accuse me of stealing it... ! who accidentally puts a belt or any item not paid for in their bags/purse while in a fitting room?? outraged, i walk into my fitting room, door open, pull out both bags and empty the items from my Gucci bag onto the floor, and open the other bag i had - which was carrying flip flops, a ziplock full of kleenex and a bottle of water. the lady says "oh i believe you but was making sure since you were at one point on a phone call and maybe you were not paying attention and misplaced it, you did not have to show us inside of your bags. were just trying to figure out what happened to it." i got so mad that i slammed the door shut, got dressed, and upon walking out i made sure to say that i was very offended of being accused of stealing and that they seen that i did not steal a belt because nothing was in my bags and they should have apologized (but they did not) and they just lost out on a thousand dollars or more of business from me, and that i will never go there again. ever. if it wasnt my favorite store prior to my going there that tuesday i would have only given it 2 stars - one for the clothes and items they carry, and the other because the girl who helped me was doing her job providing excellent customer service and even through the whole missing belt situation, never accused or hinted towards my stealing a belt. but i gave it 3 stars because of the fact that i like that store. it is unfortunate that my last experience there turned out to be very bad and embarrassing. that blonde employee should have never treated me like a thief. i spend a good amount of money there and looks like ill have to find a new boutique to pamper myself in ...... read more

I can't say enough good things about this store... As I work in the neighborhood , this place saves me each time I have a party, a dinner out, a special occasion, a bday, a New Years Eve...anytime I need a new dress this place comes first in my mind! The thing that I really like the most is the fact that I can be sure that any dress I choose is unique and I will never find someone else wearing the same outfit as mine...and we all know how important for a girl this is :)... They also have beautiful shoes, beautiful jewlery and awsome handbags. I loved this place the minute I stepped in first time! Give it a shot next time you are in the north end!
