    Foxy Lady Roll
    Samantha M.

One of the best sushi restaurants I've been to! Quick and friendly service and great sushi. My friend recommended their foxy lady roll and it did not disappoint. My boyfriend and I also tried a salmon and avocado roll to get our feet wet with raw fish and it was deeeeliciousss! I also got a try a piece of their yellowtail and scallion roll that my friend so graciously shared with me. The chicken fried rice is was good. All the food was well portioned and left our bellies feeling full. The shrimp tempura in the foxy lady roll was nice and crunchy, a little different from other shrimp tempura I've had at other restaurants. If I'm ever in the Gainesville area again I would definitely pass by liquid ginger again.

The service was great and it wasn't crowded even with a big group. The atmosphere is nice, but a bit dark. My food was really good, not my favorite Thai food ever but still delicious!

We went here for lunch while in Gainesville. We opted for the lunch specials - sashimi with miso soup and ginger salad (tuna, whitefish, salmon- so delicious) and my daughter did a mix of sushi and rolls- we both liked our options very much. The service was good- I did ask for low sodium soy and they did bring it to me. It is in a cute little area of downtown. I recommend going here for sushi - the fish was fresh and we were both satisfied- even took home the salmon roll!

Pretty good Asian place in a cute plaza in downtown Gainesville. I've also passed by liquid ginger when downtown, and it's pretty hard to miss the creepy moon statue outside. I figured I'd finally try it and I had a pretty good experience. The ambiance of the interior was a little gloomy, but it was still cute nonetheless. The wait staff wasn't very quick despite not being busy, but I do not want to hold it against them. I ordered the pad thai and my girlfriend ordered what I believe were the udon noodles with steak. The pad thai was pretty good and on par with other thai or asian places i've had across gainesville. I thought it could have used a little more sauce, but the chicken and the vegetables were all cooked well and still tasty. The udon noodles with steak were decent and the steak and vegetables were cooked pretty well. The main dismay was that the dish was absurdly oily, such that there was a pool of oil on the bottom and the leftovers left a film of oil across the takeout container. The dish was still enjoyable, just a little less oil would've been appreciated. Nonetheless, I'd still recommend trying it out for anything pan-asian or thai fusion as I believe they have a lot to offer. They also have an expansive sushi menu that I didn't get to try, so i'd love to try that too!

Why does their website send you back to yelp when you click on "reserve now", but there's no reservation feature for this restaurant on yelp?

I'm not sure what's causing this problem but just give them a call! They are always friendly with making reservations.

    Do they serve libations?

There's nothing I don't love about this place. It's food and staff are wonderful. It's clean and inviting. I've given this place my highest rating.

Then they hit it with a drizzle of ketchup like it's a consolation prize. This isn't Korean Fried Chicken; it's a school lunch with a passport. It's dishonest. Then you got the pork belly. And please, watch yourself when you pull up. There is a pothole in the lot that looks like a portal to another dimension. An asteroid literally made a home in front of the building. If you hit that thing, your car is staying there forever. The service is elite and the chairs are nice, but the kitchen is confused. It's style over substance. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, with heat lamps available for cooler evenings. We had a reservation and arrived a bit early but had to wait until our scheduled time, which wasn't surprising since every seat was full. We initially sat at the bar, where the bartender promptly took our order. We had both hot and cold sake--the cold sake came in a can and was especially delicious. After a short wait, we were taken to our table, which featured large, high-back leather chairs that were very comfortable. Our waitress greeted us quickly and brought water right away. We started with a few appetizers. The lobster wontons with truffle were just okay--slightly dry and lacking a sauce. They were small and mostly wonton, with minimal filling and flavor. We also tried the dumpling appetizer, which came with only three very small dumplings. The wrappers themselves were very good, and each dumpling had a different spicy flavor, but there was only a tiny piece of meat in each. Overall, it felt overpriced for what was included. I also had the miso truffle soup, which was decent but mostly broth with very little substance. For our main courses, I had the scallops with mushrooms, which were very good. The dish included a nice variety of mushrooms and vegetables that were fresh and crunchy. My husband ordered the lamb chops, and they were spectacular--tender, flavorful, and truly melted in your mouth. The accompanying sauce was absolutely perfect. After dinner, we were each given a small box containing two wine corks, which was a thoughtful and pleasant surprise. If in the area again, we'd go back.

The boa buns were soft, the pork was cooked perfectly, and the hoisin sauce at the bottom of the bun was amazing. There were vegetables on top, including cucumbers that tasted sweet and carrots. The vegetables were fresh and tasted great with everything else. We also ordered the crab Rangoon which I personally really liked. I don't like fish, and this crab Rangoon must have had a large amount of cream cheese base. I personally really enjoyed it since the crab wasn't very prominent. The filling was creamy, the Rangoon was crunchy, and the sweet and spicy sauce it came with made a perfect combo. For our meal, we ordered the chicken pad Thai. Unfortunately, it didn't really meet our expectations. The pad Thai was sitting on top of a sauce at the bottom, which tasted like a hoisin sauce base. The taste was very minimal, which was disappointing. The noodles were soft, almost like they were overcooked. The chicken was cooked well and lightly seasoned (which worked perfectly for the pad Thai). The vegetables on top of the pad Thai were also very fresh and you could tell they were freshly cut. The lack of peanut/pad thai taste was the most disappointing part that unfortunately lost it for us. The service was good. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted and were able to select our own table. The inside is decently small, with around 8 tables.

Now, Mala Tang and Mala Xiang Guo both come from Sichuan as far as I'm aware, so they're spicy--and the other food here is, too. I got some food to take away from the bar including Kung Pao chicken, lion's head meatballs (pork, no lions were harmed!), eggplant, and lo mein. The lion's head meatballs were excellent, the Kung Pao chicken very spicy and very good, the eggplant a bit soggy but alright, the lo mein . . . well, no better than most strip mall quick Chinese places, honestly. Still, it was good overall and this is very nice to have a place for take-away in the grocery store--it's also beside the boba tea and mochi donut counter so you can get your dessert and just everything in one fell swoop here. I did find it, as someone who cooks a lot of Chinese food myself, rather bemusing that they aced the tricky dishes and yet pretty much botched the lo mein which should have been the easiest part of the menu.

I would not try spicy or extra spicy unless you are familiar with spicy east asian food.
