I have been here half a dozen times and I get the same thing every time, the vegan Rueben. Look, it pales in comparison to the real deal, but as far as vegan alternatives go it's damn tasty. I usually also go with whatever vegan soup they have that day and have never been disappointed. I'm pretty sure it involved lentils last time around. Who knows. If you're hung over, as I am most days, I recommend a double shot of wheat grass as dessert. Seems to calm the demons inside my head. Not sure what the science is behind that, but I didn't go to college, so I probably have no fucking clue what I'm talking about. The service is good. It's a cozy, intimate space with trendy decor. The menu has great variety for every dietary need. The BBQ pulled tofu sandwich was so hearty and savory. They focus on the finer details of their food, right down to the delicious house made bread served alongside their soup. So delicious, definitely a hidden gem for vegetarians. read more

Saturday afternoon I call LE to make sure they are open. They tell me they will be open until 7. So we drive from DC to Baltimore, get to their front door at 6 and they are closed with some note that says "computer dead." I have no idea what that means! The lights were on and so was music but they apparently didn't hear me banging on the door. This is the SECOND time we have driven from DC to reach a locked door. I was really upset. Research shows that dark chocolate has the ability to boost brain levels of endorphins (natural opiates) as well as serotonin (a mood-altering chemical on which many antidepressants act).... I think the owner needs a 50 gallon enema of warm melted (vegan)chocolate, 3 times a day during the days he works. Most people open restaurants out of a love for good food and a desire to share that with people. This dude obviously loves good food, the menu is great! However, he LOATHES his customers and if i'm wrong, he has a very "unique" way of showing it. I've come in on days he's not there and the staff is super friendly, helpful and focused. On days i've come in when he IS there, the energy in the place is dark and uncomfortable. I can see the effect his presence has on his staff and customers and it's negative to say the least. The food is still good, the experience just suffers a bit. Oh, and the saying, "Good food aint fast, fast food aint good" is an understatement here... be prepared to wait a bit for your meal, even when you are the ONLY customer in the place. If you're a weirdo like me you'll enjoy watching his patience get tested by simple customer questions and requests. The dude just cant help himself, he was born to be a defensive dick and i suppose thats what makes him a good chef. All the greatest chefs i've ever met were ass. HOLES! this guy may be one of the GREATEST chefs of all time. There might be a reason why most kitchens are isolated from the customer(this one is not)... Anyways, if you don't enjoy dinner theatre then i suggest calling before you go in and asking if "Mike" is off today. Let me start by saying that I am vegan and I really really wanted to like Liquid Earth because there are about a handful of options for vegan folks in Baltimore. My friend and I ordered Guacamole to start. The guac was OK. Nothing out of the ordinary but certainly better than i've had at other places. I ordered the EarthBurger and my friend ordered the Reuben. When our order was taken we asked for no cheese on both of our orders because at the bottom of the menu it says "veganize your food by removing the cheese". A little after I put in my order I asked the waitress if the dressing on the Reuben was vegan. She said it was not but that we could change it. I asked her to change it. At that point a gentleman behind the counter said "it's already in the oven and it has cheese on it" (even though we had ordered it without cheese). Obviously, my friend could not eat that because she is vegan so we asked if they could make another one (vegan this time). Another woman behind the counter said she'd have to charge us for both. I thought this was incredibly unfair. Sure, perhaps we should have been precise about the dressing but we DID order it without cheese and they put cheese on it. So, to be fair, we were equally responsible for the sandwich, yet we were the only ones who paid for it. Though we felt uncomfortable being talked to by three different people behind a counter (highly unprofessional) we decided to just roll with it because we didn't want to be rude. When I got my burger it was "fine". Really, I could not taste the patty because there was a ton of mustard on it. My friend's Reuben was delicious! Very good. So, the moral of this review is: if you want a great vegan Reuben and don't care about service or principle then I think you should check it out. Unfortunately, I won't be back because I like to support places that treat their customers right. I think what happened today was incredibly unfair and I was willing to pay for my part of the mistake but there was no sharing of the responsibility. I ended up giving the extra Reuben to a homeless person, which was cool. :) I'm sure he enjoyed it. As we drove off into the Baltimore sunset we had a few other thoughts: Why announce on the awning of your establishment that you are "raw, vegan, vegetarian" if everything on your menu is vegetarian FIRST and then you have to "veganize" everything. This point was made poignant when we were asked what we wanted to do with our extra non-vegan sandwich. I asked "would one of you like it?" and all three of them said "no, we're vegan". Wow! Well, why not make your menu vegan and then have people unveganize it, as it were. One of the stigmas of being vegan is having to go through the process of veganizing menu items at restaurants, essentially requiring special orders. I think it would be so great if they removed this by making the items that are vegan "the norm" at their establishment. read more

I visited this restaurant a few days ago and got Portobello mushroom sandwich and one of the freshly squeezed juice- the sandwich was marginal but the juice was phenomenal so i returned the next day. While my lunch order was being made I told the waitress I was going to sit outside and answer a phone call. She said the table outside was for people who eat lunch- I was confused since I just bought my lunch and there was absolutely no one in the restaurant, both inside and out. I walked outside and sat down to answer a phone call and a few minutes later the owner who was making my sandwich came out and put his hands on the table and glared at me and said the table was for people who are dinning in! Really!? The owner of a restaurant will leave his post, stop making my sandwich to ask me to get up from sitting down outside for a few minutes where there is absolutely no other customer in sight? I was both incredulous and angry and after a few back and forth I told him that I didn't want to hear anything he had to say all I wanted was my lunch and he said " you better listen, I am making your lunch"!! I asked him if he was going to poison my food- he said no but by not listening to him I was delaying the service he was giving me... wow! I threw the pulled tofu sandwich in the trash can when I got home. I realize this sounds incredible but reading other comments on this website will give any reader that rude service is probably not atypical for this restaurant. To top it all, while still arguing with the owner, a woman walked by, presumably a wife- and he told her " she is so rude" and she chimed in by saying " I know"- mind you she was no where near the conversation and has never laid eyes on me and had no clue of what was going on!! She then gave me the longest dirtiest look and walked away. What I experienced there is something that is hard to describe, rude yes, but even beyond that it is, as though they resent customers and are being forced to serve them and they are looking for opportunities to show their disdain. Truly a strange experience that I have no name for but will never set foot there again, that is for sure. read more

Liquid Earth is a fantastic place for vegetarians, vegans, or just veggie-lovers who want to give their carnivorous tendencies a break every once-in-a-while (Meatless Mondays anyone?). Snuggled in between the ritzy Harbor East and the alcohol-laden Fell's Point square, Liquid Earth sports a unique garden-divey atmosphere. With plants strewn around the joint, sewing tables made into dining tables paired with mismatching chairs, this place is certainly different! But in a charmingly good way. Their juicer is always on full blast and serves as a steady background noise for this place. They offer an extensive and highly-varied list of fresh, made-on-site juices which incorporate fruits, veggies, spices and herbs. I have not had a juice here that I didn't love (shout out to the "Phat Beet" and "Ginger Zinger")! I also love how they serve the juices for the table in a measuring cup- it really adds to the eclecticism of this place. Their sandwich menu options are impressively eclectic and appetizing even on paper. Their Reuben is one of my favorites- both juicy and delicious. It comes with a great marinade on the tofu and a house-made 100,000 island dressing which make for a tasty super tasty bite. It also helps that the Jewish Rye bread is always grilled/toasted to perfection. But my absolute FAVORITE sandwich here is the Sacred Submarine. Order it and you'll get a 12" (or 6"...for the weak among us) long Italian bread stuffed TO THE BRIM with organic baked tofu, roasted red onions and mushrooms, and melted provolone, all on top of organic baby field greens, and topped with sliced tomatoes, juicy pickles, an awakening "cherry hots" spread, and the right amount of oil and vinegar. It is simply divine- right down to the last bread crumb (I actually had to ask where they get their sub bread because I like it so much...some place up near York, PA). What I really love about this place is that they don't skimp on anything (including the protein). For anyone who thinks vegetarianism is for people who eat like birds, they haven't seen me eat at this place. It's a messy but oh-so-satisfying experience. The staff is always uber friendly and the food is always delicious and fairly-priced. I just wish they were open past 7pm! Sometimes, I feel like the earth, moon, and uh Jupiter (?) have to be in perfect alignment for me to make it here by 7! I won't be coming back to this place because it is not SANITARY. :( *tear I come in to celebrate a clean eating anniversary to pick up a delicious smoothie from Liquid Earth before heading in to work. I make my order- Rawmond Joy, No agave, add goji berries and I sit happily at the bar waiting for my delicious $9 buck drink. The very nice woman, who I think is the owner, is backed up with a few juice orders before mine. I notice her taste the first batch with a metal spoon, adjust flavors, and think - "oh, how nice... she approves everything before it goes out" Then she does it again. And again. All with the same spoon. I was so shocked that I didn't have the words to express my feelings of utter disgust, shock, confusion, and pity for the soon to be drinkers of this woman's double dipped salivated spoon. Needless to say, I didn't ever end up tasting my drink because after our eyes caught, she started to throw spoons out after tasting one time, but never actually threw the first 'salivated' spoon out. And then she used it for my coconut oil. Trash. Never again. It wasn't worth the money in the first place. read more

I'm not a vegetarian but my sister is. So when she's in town, I try and show off baltimore's food scene and impress her with good vegetarian food. Taking her to liquid earth allowed me to do both of those things PLUS the food is just delicious. I had a yummy smoothie but her meatless muffaletta smelled so good, i had to eat some of it. I came here for a belated birthday dinner with some friends on St. Patrick's Day. My friends had arrived before me and ordered the raw pizza--which to be fair, they were happy with. I got in and noticed sat around for awhile and noticed that the servers didn't seem to be inclined to come to our table. So, I sought one out and was told that they'd get to me (keep in mind that it was not crowded or busy). So, eventually, they came by and took my order. But throughout the evening, they seemed put upon to take any request (and I'm not talking made to order dishes--I'm talking, I'd like to order "x" from the menu). I ordered the BBQ Tofu sandwich, which was nothing to write home about. At the end of the meal, again no one stopped by to give us the bill, so we walked up to pay. We asked if we could split the bill across 3 credit cards. Then they told us that they wouldn't even split it out beyond two ways even if we were paying cash. Again, the place was not busy. I am a vegetarian and it pains me to write such a bad review for a vegetarian establishment, but the service was truly atrocious! I found the food to be rather meh, but to be fair, two of my friends only eat organic food, so were happy to just find a restaurant that served something organic which is why I give them two stars instead of one. If you're desperate for organic food, give them a shot, but otherwise, find somewhere else!!! read more

I've been to Liquid Earth twice and very much enjoyed both experiences (will go back many more times!). The first time I went was weekday lunch with one other person. The second time I went was weekend lunch with a small group (3 ppl). Here's the lowdown on Liquid Earth (in my opinion): Vibe: fusion of casual, indie, & hippie Interior design/layout: eclectic, full of character, mix and match chairs & tables. Most tables accommodate 2 people but it's easy to add a third chair to make room for 3. I wouldn't recommend going here with a larger group than 6. Service: chill & friendly Food: Delicious, packed with nutrition, house-made fresh on the spot! A mecca for vegetarians, vegans, fruits & veggies foodies, and crunchy granola types. I've tasted various sandwiches, smoothies, and juices from their menu and all of them are delectable. Presentation, which is arguably as important as the food itself, is also off beat and fun (example: fresh made juice was served in a glass measuring cup!). Recommend for: lunch, mid afternoon pick-me-up, light dinner Do not Recommend for: Meat lovers, large groups What I would change: Later hours on Friday and Saturday nights. I wanted to love Liquid Earth because I am always on the hunt for a great veg-friendly restaurant, but overall it was a disappointment and not worth my time nor money. As I sat and waited, I noticed the lack of attention to cleanliness. The ceilings, walls and floors were filthy! I only noticed because the ceiling fans were swirling around and the "dust bunnies" were dangling and swaying back and forth above me and the other tables. If I had not been so hungry, I would have canceled my order. First, I don't mind waiting for great food. I realize fresh food takes time, but it took well over an hour to receive our lunch and my veganized Filly Cheese Phake did not mirror what the menu promised. I would also note that it wasn't as if the restaurant was exactly packed. When I mentioned to the server that the menu states that the sandwich would be served in Italian bread and not the stale multigrain that I received, my server responded that she didn't think the menu mentions what kind of bread is used -- I double checked before leaving and it does. She also went on to say that most customers want multigrain bread so that is what they generally use. Fine with me, but would be nice if the menu had been updated and the bread had been fresh. Secondly, after waiting over an hour, my sandwich was only lukewarm. I noticed another diner had a sandwich with steam coming from it for nearly 1/2 hour after receiving her meal but somehow my sandwich was barely warm. I dare not send this lukewarm sandwich with thick stale bread back given that I wanted to eat before dinner. Admittedly, the thinly sliced tofu was marinated well and reminiscent of seasonings used on a traditional Philly Cheesesteak, but I wouldn't return to spend nearly $15 on it again. I could forgive the mistake on the order and the server's lack of knowledge, but I was so disgusted by the filth that I couldn't bring myself to go back for what otherwise was a mediocre dining experience. read more

My wallet took took a serious hit in this place. Tasty vegetarian selections and tempting beverages made it fairly simple to blow my $12 lunch budget. Everything was dead on except for the coffee, which was some seasonal pumpkin spiced fall special thing. What a dreadful ending to a meal of perfectly cooked veggie/tofu sub, mushroom cactus soup, and chocolate cake. The atmosphere here is classic California meets East Coast, which made me want to meander there all day. But with only enough seating for about 20 folks at best it's probably best to move on if you ever see a crowd forming. Oh yeah...forgot to mention a very important point. I finally made it here after having it on my list for ages, and now I need to go back pretty much every day. So good! Kinda pricey, but not really unexpectedly so for the juice, sandwich seemed a bit crazy. I ordered the OC Loco juice, carrot juice with other things, and I downed half of it in about 10 seconds. So refreshing and quenched everything my body was craving. I also had the vegan reuben which I cannot help but ordering anywhere that has one. I'm not sure why I'm on this quest for the vegan reuben, but I've had at least 6 or 7 of them now. I have to say the one at Liquid Earth is definitely one of the best. Could use more "corned beef" tofu, but otherwise was as good as it gets. Delicious! So excited to have a good veg place kinda sorta nearby (at least, closer than NYC). :) read more

The food here is excellent. It's prepared with creativity and care, and is delicious. The Liquid Earth may be healthy for your body, but it is very unhealthy for your ears. The loud, frequent noise from the blenders turning the earth to liquid with creative concoctions, not only destroys the quaint atmosphere, but surely exceeds healthy limits for decibels. Probably best to get something to-go. Hopefully, they'll figure out a way to move the blenders to a back room, because it truly is a fatal flaw in this otherwise excellent restaurant read more

I am a vegetarian. I was in Baltimore for the weekend. This place was exactly what I was looking for. The food was delicious; we shared a Reuben Royale and a Philly Cheese Phake, and either one of them would convert meat-eaters, just fantastic and energizing. We each also got a tasty smoothie. Ambience is super chill like a coffee shop. I think anyone would feel welcome here and be delighted by the food. Whenever I have friends or family come visit me in Baltimore, I always end up taking them to Liquid Earth, and every person I've taken here loves it. I think I've eaten almost everything on the menu, and I've never had anything I didn't like. Okay. So as a vegan I should be stoked to have a place in Baltimore that has such a wide array of healthy, exciting food I can eat, right? Not at the cost of actually eating at Liquid Earth. If eating here means I get to: A) Wait 45 minutes to get a takeout sandwich (a vegan Reuben with about two pieces of fake meat and the smallest slices of bread I've ever seen) B) pay twice what I think said sandwich is worth C) get to experience possibly some of the snootiest employees I've ever met then I will continue to make better and more affordable vegan food at home. This restaurant embodies a lot of the vegan/vegetarian elitism that makes meat eating folk view us as holier than thou snobs. That being said, I do not like having to feel so critical of a vegan restaurant in Baltimore! They are few and far between. I also do not want to feel as though I have to give this place two thumbs up just because it is vegan friendly, when in reality there is much that is lacking. I'd like to see more consistent service. Two other people in the restaurant should not be cause for the one lone server to tell me that they are busy and my food will take a while. I don't want to be talked down to while ordering and waiting for my food. The male server with the spikey hair seems to get extremely frustrated when there is more than one customer in the place and will snap at anyone who crosses his path. I understand that vegan and organic foods are becoming increasingly expensive, but if I am paying ten dollars for a lunch sandwich, I want a ten dollar sandwich. There are some off things about the place. My sister and I semi frequently ate here and this is what you need to know: They open and close randomly. They advertise that they close at 7:00 but they may or may not be open at 6:30 and beyond. We began calling in advance and saying we were on our way if planning to come at these times. You can easily feel unwanted even though you are the one giving them your money. The staff is not standoffish but not attentive.Very strange mood they have over there. They used to have a lovely loc'd young man with a nice temperament working their in the early afternoons who always made great sandwich and even better smoothies. We would plan our visits around this time. In the last few years the replacement waiters seem to have no concept of how to wait on people. A woman made a terrible smoothie for me once and stomped around the bard after I asked for it to be remade. A male waiter gave me sass and lip for asking for separate bills apparently it was " against the boss' policy" to do so ( I had been going for years and had paid on separately before). A lot depends on who you get when. Overall there inst any standard quality of customer care. That being said, if you're only popping in for a drink or something to go you probably wont even notice. The food is fresh fresh fresh and made to order. Often you will find only one cook in the kitchen so expect a 10 min- 15 min wait if you are ordering anything more than a smoothie even if you are the only one in the joint Again, a lot of the taste of the food and experience depends on who is working when you visit. Stick with what people on here have said is good. They really only have 2 good entrees. Philly cheese phake and the Reuben. All smoothies are delicious. Most juices. Great find in the Baltimore! All I wanted to do while staying in Baltimore was eat here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Excellent customer service! I arrived about 5 minutes before closing. This was my first time experiencing this establishment. I was given a warm welcome eventhough they were closing soon. I tried the facelifter and had a vegan cookie. Everything was absolutely delicious! Not too much of one ingredient over powering the other. I went here a year and a half ago when I was last in Baltimore. A very dear family member of mine had passed away and I was crushed. While I was here for the funeral, I found this place online and decided to try it. I couldn't have picked a place with better food or a kinder service staff. The first night I had the Fillycheese Phake. To this day, it's my favorite thing I've ever eaten. Don't get me wrong, the reuben I had the second night was good, but my god.. that first night. Damn. I've considered on several occasions about calling and asking them to ship one of those cheese steaks down to me. Just epic. The waiter even saw my bloodshot eyes and tear stained face and gave me a cookie. Just couldn't have asked for better all around. If you live in Baltimore and don't go here, you're literally hurting me. The cookie, the ginger/beet juice... everything was so good. Incredible meal! Had the raw pizza and vegan ruben, so so good. Wish this was located in Philly! The staff is really sweet as well.

We ordered a variety of eats off of this menu: the raw tacos, the pizza, the hummus platter, the picnic sandwich, the honey and ginger hot drink, and the rawmond joy. Everything was interesting tasting in its own right. I have to say I have hated every raw vegan restaurant I have ever been too. They have alllll been awful. This place was not awful. I highly recommend the raw tacos. The rawmond joy was rather delicious too. CONS: ALERT: THIS RESTAURANT STOPS TAKING FOOD ORDERS AT 6:45 pm and drink orders at 7:00 pm - what?? Good thing the waitress alerted me to this just in the nick of time! PS: Do not look at their website, because it is has a ton of random pop ups and has horribly annoying music that you can't turn off. read more

I'm so glad my brother humored me by agreeing to go to a vegetarian restaurant while I was visiting him in Baltimore. I tried the vegan reuben, and my brother had the BBQ pulled tofu sandwich. We also shared a carrot orange juice. I hadn't eaten a reuben sandwich in so long that tears almost came to my eyes. I usually don't think about foods like that until I encounter them on a menu and suddenly decide I MUST eat them. I can't wait to go back to Baltimore so that I can more of the sandwiches. Went for vegan food and found a smelly, creepy looking place with questionable sanitation practices. We sat down then realized we had to get our order to go.
