Linganore Winecellars is my favorite wine spot in Frederick county. They have easy wines for a summer outing with friends and they also serve great beer for those in the group who are not wine lovers. There is so much space to spread out and even bring your own food while listening to live music. The indoor barn areas are very clean and comfortable as well. The food trucks on site are always good for those times when you just don't feel like packing snacks. Linganore Winecellars is a great social spot to sit back and take in the atmosphere with a glass of wine (or beer) and good friends. read more

I am surprised I have never written a review for Linganore as many times as I have been here in the past, yet better late than never right? Right!!! I can honestly say I think the best time to come here is during a festival which is what this visit consisted of. It was the Autumn Reggae Wine & Music Festival which we turned into a celebration because it as my sister friends birthday as well. The experience from beginning to end ran like a well oiled machine. Guided parking made parking and remembering where you parked easy and breezy. The entrance included a bag check, ID check and getting your ticket scanned and you wrist band put on. Finding a place to put up our tent was easy and I do recommend early arrival so you get to set up exactly where you want. Tastings were easy to get to and achieve as they were set up on the hill under the pavilion, you could taste and they had it divided between sweet and dry, you could do both but if you had an overarching preference you could go in that direction. You could also purchase bottles here is another line. Skipjack, Mango Sangria and Spiced Apple Wine (which was warm) are always favs. However this time, I learned that the Raspberry and the Indulgence ( the dessert wine, sweet red and chocolate) taste fantastic together or you can chase the Raspberry with the Indulgence and it will change your life!!!! Best recommendation ever!!! I typically do not like sweet wines but these get a full exception!!! The drys were palate pleasing as well but not for everyone if you are not into drier wines. You were also able to go into the tasting room to taste additional wines that were not up at the pavilion. They still had the line divided between sweet and dry and no limitation on doing one or the other or both. The pours were generous and everyone was friendly and delightful!! You are able to bring your own food but they also have food trucks and various vendors on site so could get some eats, treats and some merch. No outside alcohol is allowed and pets are not allowed on the property during festivals. Do wear comfortable shoes that you do not mind if they get messed up because once everyone gets to moving around it can get quite dusty lol. Bring your folding chairs, your tent, your blankets and whatever else you think you need to have a good time. You will have to go to the bathroom at some point so there was a ton of porta potties at the lower end of the property and up on the hill as well. Do not forget the hand sanitizer in case the ones in the potty are not working properly. All in all there is something for everyone and the bands were great! read more

My friends came here last minute on a busy Saturday afternoon. We arrived around 5 PM and the parking lot was almost full. Linganore has plenty of space to have a picnic, enjoy some wine, food trucks or just take in the great ambience. There is also a huge field up the hill that is great for photos and to catch the sun. The cheese, sangria and wines in general inside the main shop were delicious. The pizza at the food truck was delicious. Cant go wrong with their brick oven pepperoni or margarita pizzas. I love the spacing around the grass here. You have plenty of room between the chairs and tables. Even with a party of 20 we were close enough to rub elbows with anyone. The tables can easily be moved around and the space overall was very clean. Definitely one of my favorite new wineries in Maryland. I'd recommend going early and trying to find an area that has shade. read more

I have been to more than a fair share of wineries but I always come back to Linganore. Not just because of the ample indoor and outdoor seating options, but because the grounds are soo accommodating for picnics. You literally just pick a spot and setup. There is a wide selection of wines to choose from of both white and red wines. And you can bring your own food/charcuterie items. There are of course options for you to purchase there and there are always food trucks on the weekend. And don't even get me started on the summer festivals! Nothing but a good time!! read more

More of a group gathering place and event location than a true vineyard. Okay for a date....if you like kids. Tables are first come first served, so diaper bags and kid gear filled all the tables near the live music. 5 tables of kid crap with not a single person at the table, kids running unsupervised all over the place. Go to the pumpkin patch and leave some places adults only, puhleeze! Website didn't mention bringing your own food, apparently most people do. The tastings were pretty rote, one person for several groups at a standing only bar. No tastings at the table (my precious experience was Sonoma Valley and Italy with tastings brought to a table w amazing views...) The wines were very straightforward, 'beginner' wines, no real subtle notes of anything in any. If you like berries and adult grape juice, this is the place. This past weekend, my husband and I visited the winery and had an amazing time. The drive up was nice and scenic, and the vineyard itself was very well kept. We decided to do the $10 "Sweet" tasting. It included samples of over 10 wines. Each wine was explained to us and in the end, we found it very hard picking which to purchase...we wanted to take them all. My favorite was the Spiced Apple and his was Indulgence. The staff was very accommodating and attentive to anything we needed. We actually ended up receiving a private tour of the winery. That was great because we had lots of questions. There was a food truck outside to help "soak up" the wine. Lol. Overall i'd highly recommend this vineyard. read more

Great place for a double date.. a winery and a brewery right next to each other! We hit up the winery first, and I really liked how they had THREE different tasting lists. You can opt for sweet wines, dry wines, or a blended list. Pay up at the counter before you go to the bar for your tasting. We all chose the sweet wine list, and since I love sweet wines, I enjoyed the tasting, and bought a bottle of Mango Sangria. That was a hit among us. They did give us a individually wrapped pack of two crackers each and a hershey's kiss. This was a bit disappointing, because I like having more crackers, but I guess it's more hygienic than a bowl of oyster crackers. The atmosphere was very lively, and it's a popular place, and when we left the barn, we went right next door to the brewery and bought flights for beer/ciders. Some people don't like mixing their beer and wine, but I think this place is great because you can please everybody! read more

I really do like this winery, but if you're a wine connoisseur this place isn't the stop. It's a great place to gather with friends or family, a picnic, and some wine. How can I not review Linganore Wincellars when my photograph currently headlines their Yelp page?!?! I had the pleasure of visiting this winery on my birthday during the Annual Reggae & Jazz Festival on Memorial Day Weekend. The Linganore Winecellars is a beautiful vineyard and winery located in the picturesque rolling countryside of Mount Airy, Maryland. Being a two time Maryland resident, it was the first that I've heard of this place, although I've heard rave things about the festivals being hosted there. As a first time visitor, I was blown away by the serenely green acreage and I could quickly imagine how peaceful it would be to visit on a normal day when a quiet wine tasting could be enjoyed. Nonetheless, the festival was spectacular! The live music, the scenery, the wine coupled with the beautiful weather that day... all made for the most perfect birthday event. The mango sangria, sweet white wine, had the right blend of sweetness and became one of my favorite "fruit wines" to date. This white wine blend infuses beautifully with the tropical fruit. Truly perfect for a summer day in May like it was that day. Linganore Woncellars, you've truly found a friend in me. I look forward to visiting again. read more

I attended their Caribbean wine festival yesterday. The festival was overall very chaotic. I attend wine festivals all the time and there were no signs letting you know where ride share service drop off is, where the bathrooms are or even where the wine tastings or food was at. Mind you, this winery has very poor cell service and they did have WiFi for a minute but when it came time for me to get my Lyft back, there was no WiFi for me to use. By the grace of god, my crappy signal was able to request my Uber ride and actually connect me with a driver. The staff stated that the WiFi goes out when there's too many using it which isn't a valid excuse because ppl need to get home. My friend and I started to walk down closer to the exit to try and get better service to speak with our driver and ran into a random area that had Lyft/uber pickup that the staff did not tell us about to get picked up after I called my ride already. Once we get there, I asked one of the workers how the drivers would be able to pick us up, he laughs stating that if you have service, you can call and tell him to come to this area. Mind you, the way that he stated the drivers were to come through, we're now allowing leaving traffic to go through that way. This was my first and last time going to this festival. It was just highly unorganized and the lack of WiFi was unacceptable because there were some people who were not able to get service to even schedule a ride back home. You can't have ppl stranded who are trying not to drink and drive in order to get home. I highly recommend that they invest in better WiFi for everyone and not just workers and registers. read more

Good wines, great sangria! Delicious Argentinian empanadas and chimichurra steak food truck visiting the day we went. There's a brewery on the grounds so we got beer flights in addition to our wine. Dog-friendly with a fenced field for dogs to play that's not gross like a typical dog park. Enjoyed the outdoor patio on a perfect fall day. After visiting Downtown Frederick we decided to visit this winery. We got there relatively late (around 4 PM), and were surprised to find out they were having a reggae festival... even with the mid 90's temperatures the place was packed... and I mean PACKED! We were informed by their staff that entry to the festival was $25 per person, but that all activities ended at 5. She must had been moved by our collective disappointment, because she the said that we could go in for $5/person... the price of the commemorative wine glass. We paid her, got our wine glasses and quickly walked to the free wine tasting counters. All 8 wines we tasted were really good, but we settled for a red sangria (super cold and refreshing, especially with the current weather!) and a white they call Jack Frost (also very cold and refreshing). We briefly sat at one of their outside tables, but then move to a table inside their A/C'ed beer tasting house (yeap, the also have beer and hard cider tasting!). We stayed there drinking sangria until they closed the room at 6. We have visited many wineries in Northern Virginia and Maryland, and, even though we got to Linganore late and could only stay for a couple of hours in a crazy hit and humid weather, this has been our best experience yet. We got there on Sunday right when they opened and found a table on the outside patio and enjoyed our bottle of red wine. Most say wine isn't amazing but better than I expected. This review is long overdue during COVID and non! Pros: -Friendly and informative staff.. made us feel like we were friends/family on our first few visits -During COVD: one entrance for guests and one exit. Tape on the floor for a gentle reminder of social distancing (indoor seating currently not available). Masks required -Beautiful grounds and ambiance -Indoor seating available during non COVID period along with a bar where most tastings are held -Kid and pooch friendly! Set out a beach blanket, chairs, some toys and we are set -Dog exercise area available -Able to bring outside food and water. We brought a whole picnic basket! -Large outdoor area and patio seating with umbrellas -Local food vendors/trucks on weekends -Clean bathrooms -Picnic tables available with blocks for clean or dirty. Guests are supposed to flip the block over when leaving so the staff can sanitize for the next group -Delicious wine! I've had at least 10 wine tastings and never had an unfavorable one. The wine experts give such great descriptions of how the wine tastes and what foods would pair well with it -Red Shedman brewery right next door -Live music on the patio or field area -Member of the Linganore Wine Club ( See website for additional details, great deals!) Cons: -The dog exercise area can be a bit hot with no shade. What a nice treat, we came for an evening to relax and taste wines. The food truck this evening served Mexican food which was really popular with all the guests. You can bring your own food as well. Across the small parking lot from the winery is a craft beer pub. You can get a flight of beer and bring it to the patio and listen to the music or you can buy a bottle of wine and bring it to the patio. This is a pet friendly environment. I must say that I am a fan of attending events here. I started last year and plan on coming back year after year. The most recent trip here was for "The Taste of Linganore" beer and wine festival. There is ample parking in the fields surrounding the winery with a very short walk to get inside of the venue. The check in process was a breeze and did not take long at all. Many of their popular wines are available for samples outside in a covered pavilion. There was one area with beer available for samples with a few of there craft beers on tap. Plenty of volunteers are on hand so the lines never got very long. There is a brewery and tap house on site if you want to go in and soak up a little AC while you partake in a ice cold beverage. You are able to see into the brewing area through large windows and there is plenty of seating at the bar as well as table seating. Outside there is plenty of lawn seating and a few picnic tables. If you don't arrive early you probably wont be able to get a table so you should bring some chairs. There are not many trees for shade so a tent of canopy wouldn't hurt. There are not many activities for kids here so be aware. I brought my 5 year old daughter along with some toys and she was able to keep herself entertained. They had several food trucks so if you don't feel like packing a lunch you can still find something to eat. They have areas set up inside and outside to occupy a little of your time. They had two bands providing very good music for most of the day. I noticed they had tours of the winery but I haven't gone on one yet. I will have to add that to my to do list for a future visit. If you enjoy outdoor festivals like me you will like coming to events at Linganore. read more

Oh-em-gee. Okay so look, I've been a fan of Linganore wines since I could drink; everyone knows they're a local favorite. I didn't feel the need to add another raving review UNTIL NOW! Their Mountain White grapes were harvested late this year and in my opinion produced their BEST Mountain White EVER. From the color, the smell, the mouth feel; it's just an amazing experience in this bottle. I truly hope they harvest like this going forward for the Mountain White because this literally was a winner! I'm tempted to order more and most likely will this week! They really outdid themselves with this one and I know it was an accident but it should be permanent. The five stars in this review are LITERALLY for this Mountain White!!!! read more

I visited this establishment for a "private wine tasting." However, it was not as expected. When we arrived, the rest of the party was not present, but the hostess was generous enough to allow us to wait for everyone. When the group all arrived, we were escorted to our "private" session. Unfortunately, the private session was not private at all. In fact, we were assigned a slim, rectangular table placed in the corner of the winery. On our table there were 15 glasses, crackers and chocolates; it was cramped. We asked to remove a few glasses, and it was still hard to move. Moving on to the actual tasting: the girl running our tasting knew NOTHING. She knew nothing about the wines, nothing about how to properly taste the wines or nothing about wine pairings; I was extremely disappointed. When I asked her about a pairing for one of their white wines, her response was, "hmm, I'm not sure. I heard some people pair it with spaghetti." She lost all credibility with me there. We tasted about 12 wines, and the session was over in about 20 minutes. In my opinion, it was not worth the drive. The best part about this establishment is their brewery next to the winery. They have many different beers, ciders, and they offer flights! I had each of their ciders (blueberry, cranberry, raspberry and apple), and they were fantastic. I highly recommend you give them a try. In all, this winery isn't horrible. However, I would not recommend it for a large gathering. read more

The property is so huge that it's easy to social distance... unless it's a nice weekend! My first visit, I went on a Friday with a friend. The band was awesome, the deceptively good Mexican food truck really delivered. I say deceptively because it's literally called Authentic Mexican food truck lol and I was worried usually that means anything but authentic. I enjoyed my time so much that I ended up dragging my husband back the very next day because I wanted to try more tacos. Well... I had my toddler with me and my husband. We made a circle around the parking lot and drove right out. I can't believe how many people they had there! I mean their property is huge but it was so crowded that my husband said even Covid aside, he doesn't love people enough to consider that enjoyable. I guess everyone has the same idea when it's a nice weekend with wine, food and music. Can't blame them because I thought the same. Hopefully we can return on another day with the same perks of my first visit without the crowds. read more

This is definitely my favorite winery to go to in the Maryland area. Linganore wines can be found at most liquor stores and the Maryland area, some parts of the dmv, and a little bit of Virginia. They've added a brewery as well. They also had someone selling barbecue, and a food truck! While they do serve alcohol this place is super family friendly. They have picnic tables and you can bring chairs, blankets and whatever else you need. We did a flight tasting which get you a little more acclimated to your potential taste. I will say that wines at Leonora are sweeter, which fits my taste because I'm not a wine connoisseur. In the list of wines that you can taste in the flights they didn't have their most popular white wine. The ambiance of the place is very nice! They even had one slushies! This place is pretty well known and was pleasantly crowded when we arrived. It has a ton of outdoor seating so people don't have to be squished together. Which post covid really puts you at ease. This is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. But getting there seems like you're going to the middle of nowhere, but that is most wineries. read more

Great wines. Very inconsistent service and attention to detail. I think if your a Mt. Airy local, you'll be happy here, but if your a metro DMV person, don't waste your time here. Example: we wanted to sit by the fire pit and they only had it by the tasting side. So we just sat on a table and started drinking our wine. It was cold and we were bundled up. The taster saw this and didn't really say much to us. Then another couple asked to turn the heater on right next to us. I would have let it go, but we sat there a whole 10 minutes with numerous people walking by with us bundled up. It felt like we kinda didn't exist... i have other examples from the 2 previous visits we made here that echo this sentiment. Linganore was never bad with these little service matters, they were always attentive to detail, respectful and resourceful. I just hope to see that come back when things are normal again. read more

I enjoyed the wines but never made the trip out to the winery until this summer with my friends. Holy moly... I wish I had done this sooner (when I lived in Maryland). The winery is perfectly situated on a lovely hillside, with ample space, two main buildings (winery and brewery) and beautiful vineyards. The outdoor area is the absolute tits. The winery offers three different tastings for every type of wine lover. We had three people in our party, so we each tried a different one. It was definitely worth it because we ended up sharing when we found something special. Between the three of us we ended up with 12 wines. We took a few bottles outside and ate our cheese and crackers and played some lovely card games while enjoying the sunny day. After a while we went into Red Shedman Brewery (see that review separately). Overall an absolutely glorious day with phenomenal people! read more

It's summer time her in Maryland and what does that mean...wine festivals galore. $25 to the Reggae Festival entrance at Linganore and the wine gets pouring and hips get winding. I'm not sure how the other festivals are that they have at Linganore, but if are you looking for a good spot to pitch your tent or park your seat under a tree at the Reggae Festival, you'd better get there literally when they open the gates. We got there around 11 and much of the shaded tree area was full at this point, with no hope of getting our tent close to the stage. Once we found a decent spot to set up shop, it was on to taste the wine. Since it was still fairly early, the lines weren't that long for the wine tasting. I'm a sweet wine gal, so I only checked out the sweeter wines, which were all really good. I was really feeling the Steeplechase, and our wine volunteer was super helpful and knowledgeable about the wines and even how to mix the sweet wines with the dry wines to make them more bearable. There was a variety of stands offering homemade beauty products, clothes, and jewelry. Although, I was only interested in the food. I opted for a tent that didn't have any customers and I figured, why not give them a try. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the venue but they had a really good jerk chicken sausage. All of the food tends to be on the expensive side and I would definitely recommend bringing your own food. But the honey bun cake spot is a must try. If you want to vibe out, enjoy some good company, and get your drink on, take a trip to Linganore and spend the day chilling out. read more
