I came here on 9/2/2022, a Friday night after work with two co-workers and one former co-worker. Limerick's Tavern was on my bucket list ever since I found out that it existed, that it's on the prime strip of Main Street in downtown Alhambra, and it happens to be a spot that one of my co-worker's former roommate is presently working at. Limerick's is kind of like Casey's Irish Bar & Grill in Downtown LA mashed with the Red Lion Tavern in Silverlake. The decor, the feel, and service are what stuck out to me. It feels kind of lounge-y like an old tavern yet also like a modern bar and grill restaurant like 38 Degree Bar & Grill, which is also on my bucket list to stop by. They have the TouchTunes digital jukebox, if you care for that sort of thing. Limerick's is admittedly kind of ok with their pricing even for this part of the prime strip of downtown Alhambra. Most of the beers on tap are, I believe, between $6-10 for the slightly fancier beers. For the higher ABV (alcohol by volume) beers, it's hitting the $12-16 range per 12 oz tulip or 16 oz glass. For domestics, I believe they were $5 and below, depending on whether you get a draft on tap or bottled beer. They also have cocktails and mixed drinks that you can choose from on the menu or you order your own well drink or cocktail of choice. I think those were largely between $10-12. They also have a happy hour which as far as I know for that Friday night, it was buy one beer at regular price and get the 2nd beer at $1. I believe happy hour is between 3-7pm. Ask the server/bartender for details. I just know that when I got there, I was told that Happy Hour is about to end at 7pm and now's the time to order so I just ordered 4 beers back to back and pounded the first two. The food is alright, albeit a bit pricey and fhe portion size could be better. I had their pot pie and nachos appetizer. The pot pie which was praised by many folks on Yelp seems to fall short of expectations for me. It's the size of a small 6" dia skillet. While the inside of pie itself was rather tasty, the outside 'crust', if you can even call it that was lackluster. It was mushy all around. I'm not too sure if that's how it is supposed to be, frankly speaking. It's not my cup of tea but it's still edible and tasty enough that I wouldn't necessarily write it off. The nachos was an interesting blend of thin crispy tortilla chips mixed with thicker tortilla chips. It was moderately covered in meat and veggies with some cheese sauce, sour cream, and what appeared to be bacon bits. Again, not too sure if that's how it's supposed to be but that was what I remembered it being. It's tasty enough that I would recommend trying it out. All in all, I came away with a fairly positive experience and would definitely stop by here again, if I happened to be in the area. read more

The 4 stars are for our server of the night, Luis. Despite the chaos of it being St Patrick's day, he pushed through and did all he can, the Caucasian lady, little heavy set blonde, cannot hack it. Already seemed very frustrated and annoyed, and she did have reason to as they were a lot of people to deal with and some that were drunk and others cutting the line and seating their big ass group. We simply expressed to her that people cut and she basically did nothing to rectify it other that give us a snarky attitude and gave us a small trouble for 2 when we were 4. Limericks is a chill and convenient spot to hang out on Main Street. They have a nicely decorated outdoor patio where you can enjoy the street view. I am a big fan of that as it reminds me of European bars. I think the drinks here are pretty good, they have a wide range of beer selections and cocktail options. Their beer selections changes periodically, I remember when they first opened they had different types of Belgium ales (delirium, St. Bernardus, etc) but they no longer carry those on tap. This is a bummer but understandable with covid and everything. I didn't get to try the food this time as their kitchen closes pretty early but will try it next time I visit. read more

Disappointed honestly, this place has a great review but it fell short in my opinion. Being a tavern, I would expect the food to be somewhat good but the chicken chicharron attempt is a fail. Chicharron in general is just deep fried skin, not battered. The mac n cheese was nothing major, u can put together this dish from a box and add some random pieces of bacon on the side... I really underestimated this place. Because c'mon, it's just another Irish pub. But no, Limericks is better than that and I shouldn't have sold them short. I had my preconceptions about this place and I would never have come here if it weren't for the BF. One day, he decided, "Let's go to Limericks." I said hesitantly, "Limericks......? -_-" I was full from a meal that I had just had not too long ago, so I knew I wasn't going to eat. But still, I reluctantly went to Limericks. I did not order anything, I just had water, but I had some of the BF's food. He ordered the Braised Short Ribs which comes with mashed potatoes and locally farmed carrots. It looked fantastic and I had a sample and it tasted fantastic as well! The Short Rib was so tender, flavorful, and juicy. The accouterments were also very delicious! Came back recently for out door seating and it was sad to see it not as busy as before! Despite that the food was great and service was even better! Funny story I like to share to all my yelp friends: This is only for St. Patty's Day celebration review! My cousins and I decided to have our first reunion here and it was interesting. The restaurant made us stand in a long line by 11am and recorded us while we walked into the restaurant. They handed us green lucky charm beads and a cute v-neck shirt. So we got seated in a corner booth and ordered our drinks and lunch St Patty Day menu. I was hungry since it was my first meal of the day. My cousins ordered green beer, Irish bomb, whisky, and I got a Irish blonde ale. Our food arrive which are beef nachos, beef stew with veggies, corn beef, meat pie, etc. I started to noticed all the meals were small. We were thinking we need to migrate elsewhere for another meal. Their display of their Normal menu on the screen looked amazing and we looked at ours with dissatisfaction while we picked on it. That night my cousins all decided let's make their own corn beef and they shared their recipe. I honestly would say my corn beef was so tasty and cheaper compared to there's. Okay! I hate myself writing this review but I have to do it! Limericks used to my go-to place and I loved it so much! I have been going less and less often since the atmosphere, staff there wasn't the same anymore (which I understand). Tonight I was trying to give it another shot but I was disappointed! My friend and I ordered total of four vodka tonic, they all tasted like WATER! I understand if it's a $5 drink but it was $8 each! Ended up we had to go to another bar for some legit drinks! Also, it wasn't packed at all and there was plenty of staff there. Every time we tried to look for a server for something, we couldn't find one. I understand some of them are new there but ... I have gone on multiple occasions and it is never full to the point where we had to wait to be seated. That being said, it's not dead inside. The atmosphere is great depending on the sports games going on and if it is a weekday or weekend. The first time I went was on a Monday during happy hour so we got a burger, side, and beer FOR ONLY $15! The burger was good and the waiters/bartenders are friendly and attentive to ensure your beer never runs out hahaha. A friend and I both ordered mules, calamari, and a pastrami sandwich to share with a side of garlic tater tots. They have patio dining right now and all the servers are masked and sanitizer is provided at the front. The calamari is a must try! The breading is so light and crunchy and the addition of a sweet and spicy sauce on top made the dish disappear super fast. Located on the bustling main street in Alhambra, this is one of those places I likely would have passed by without looking at twice if it had not been for yelp event. I came back here with a big party, was able to make a reservation the day before, and I had a great time. The hosts were very accommodating, ie. they brought out a kids cup and crayons for the kid in the group even without asking, and they were posting very quick about serving us. This time around I had items from the happy hour menu and my favorite was the Guinness stew, and the sliders were pretty good as well. The favorite thing I did have here was the fish and chips which comes with surprisingly delicious side of peas. I can't really recall what was in them but I think there is bacon, and it was just a surprisingly good side. The fish was a good portion of just one bug filet and the fries are pretty good as well. Overall I would recommend this place just for happy hour (theor bites are substantial) or even for family dinners, as there were quite a few groups with small kids and they provide a kids coloring kit. Even though I came here and we had happy hour food, I would still recommend their main dishes, as the fish and chips as well as their bangers and mash was great the last time I had it. read more

Came here for the first time today on a Wednesday evening. They have trivia nights! Wednesday @ 7PM. Walked in. Was greeted warmly and asked to take a seat anywhere. Our waiter, Bear, came to us promptly and helped us out. Asked for some recommendations and he was happy to help. Super friendly. It was happy hour but decided to go with his recommendation of the Spicy Chicken Sandwich BEAR STYLE, and it did not disappoint. Wow! One of the best chicken sandwiches I've had. Added bacon, cilantro, peppers, tapatio aoili. Chicken was super crispy but not super oily. I'd definitely recommend you try this. Girlfriend had the fish and chips and she was also pretty happy. Awesome that they have so many different types of fries. Fish was cooked perfect and also really crispy. Definitely recommend checking this spot out. Limericks on Main St. in Alhambra - while indoor dining is banned, outdoor dining is still allowed. I'm soaking up the last bits of summer with some socially distanced dining before I return to work. Limericks is doing things right with their outdoor patio dining. APPETIZERS Their CLAM CHOWDER was loaded!! Honestly, the chowder itself could have been a meal. The star for me was the CHIX-CHARRONES. I love crispy chicken skin and these were awesome with some meat and uber crispy skins. The tapatio lime aioli was the perfect accompaniment to the dish, providing the balance of flavors to the fried goodness. Surprisingly, the aioli was actually kinda spicy, which, if you know me in real life is saying something cuz I really love spicy food (I always keep fresh Thai chilis at home to add to most of my food). MAINS LIMERICKS BURGER was cooked up medium perfection. Swipe for that beautiful thicc cross-section. PASTRAMI SANDWICH huge and savory. However, it comes with mustard so if you're not a fan, recommend you let them know not to put it on. Both comes with your choice of sides. Fries, sweet potato fries, tater tots and can come regular or garlic. OMG you HAVE to get the tots with GARLIC. you might wonder how good could they be... Honestly, these are the best tots I've ever had. So so crispy and that garlic. the fries were pretty good but paled in comparison to the tots. I'm still thinking about that crunch 2 days later... We were told we could not sit in a booth because they had to be held for larger parties. We requested one because the bar was dead empty and I was clearly needing a booth since I was in a very large leg brace after a knee injury and needed a place to rest my leg. We were sat at a table with wooden chairs that I could not rest my bad leg on. While we were looking over the menu, another party of two came in and they were sat at a booth. I ordered their carne asada tacos not really expecting much, but to my surprise it was quite delicious! It was cooked tender and marinated with perfect seasoning. I would definitely return to order them again! 3 tacos for $7 during happy hour! My only complain was the service. I believe her name was Danielle.. she came off really rude. I don't know if we caught her on a bad day, but she was not happy to serve us at all. She was lacking patience.. she showed irritation when responding to our questions about the menu. I've been a pretty frequent patron of this place for quite some time now, I'd say over 3+ years and over the course of time during this dreadful pandemic, not only has the service gone down but also the portions. Not to mention, the taking away of the food items on the Happy Hour menu, now only limited to drinks and the daily specials which are advertised outside before you walk in. Despite realizing this, my girlfriend and I still decided to enjoy what we always have, only to be let down by the mediocre plates that were brought to us. The sweet potato fries were well seasoned and accompanied by both ketchup and an aioli, however were only enough to feed a child. We finished the plate by the time the wings came out. The wings we're succulent and perfectly cooked and yet again, lacked complete flavor. Anyone who's been coming here taking down these wings know they always come well dressed, yet tonight they lacked literally all seasoning. Maybe the remnants of the bottle mixed with lemon juice, as there were particles of lemon seed on the wings we had to pick off. In the midst of the plates coming and going, I didn't get 1 refill and had to ask twice for Buffalo sauce to help rescue these $18 disasters, in which my server brought me back BBQ sauce. What? Chicken Chicharrones came out and there were maybe 4-6 pieces of half dollar sized chicken. Luckily the sauce it comes With is damn good.. Realizing when finished, after 10 minutes and no sign of our server, we reluctantly went inside to pay our tab. I get it, places get busy. It wasn't. I get it, people have off days. It was the 3rd time we've had this happen with the same server but we really enjoy it here. I guess this pandemic really had you guys pulling back the reigns which sucks. It definitely isn't cheap, but as far as dining out and bar prices go, it isn't terribly expensive either. Came here on a Saturday evening with my friend and was seated immediately. The outdoor patio area is super cute, especially at night when the sun starts to set! They have a good drink selection. Cocktails err a bit more on the sweeter side. I got a tropical cocktail which I forgot the name of :( my friend got the skinny margarita which was vodka based. It's interesting; I'm not a huge fan of vodka and strongly prefer tequila, buuuut the skinny margarita was still pretty good and refreshing! If you like seltzery spritzers you might enjoy the margarita here. They have daily theme specials such as taco and margarita thursdays and happy hour all day on sundays. I want to come back and check those out! To give some perspective on how much one can expect to spend when coming here, here's a mini breakdown on what we got: Between my friend and I, we each ordered 2 drinks (a cider and a cocktail per person.) we Also ordered the garlic fries (pass on these,) chicken tenders (yum!), Cesar salad, and the pretzel. We each spent approximately $45 per person on this spread, but we left feeling super full and satisfied. If you compare this to a bar in Pasadena or Los Angeles/Hollywood, I feel like prices are slightly comparable or even cheaper. Limericks is a gem in Alhambra! Last Saturday night the hubby and I were looking for a place to eat and have a few beers and came across Limericks on yelp. It had great reviews and I must say it live up to the hype. Besides the great selection of beer, the food is really good! I'm talking about hearty, comfort, good ol' Irish food. For starters we enjoyed a plate of Irish nachos (thin sliced potato chips, corned beef, pastrami, bacon bits, sour cream, cheese, yum!) and I should have stopped there because they were not only delicious but very filling. I also had the Shepherd's Pie (lamb chuck, veggies, mashed potatoes, cheese). My first time ever trying lamb chuck and although the meat has a different taste from say, beef chuck, I really enjoyed it and practically licked my plate clean! To top it off, I couldn't leave without enjoying dessert: Strawberry cobbler. Holy ish, this was the best cobbler I have had in a long time. It wasn't your average cobbler, more like strawberries topped with streusel and fresh cream and french vanilla ice cream on the side over a bed of graham crumbs. Simple, yet delicious! Hats off to Limericks because I will definitely be back! I'm glad I found a new spot to enjoy St. Patty's Day at! One more thing: the service from the waitress (i wish I knew her name) was top notch.
