It had been a minute since I attended an educational dinner - I enjoy them but hey, life is busy. However, the stars finally aligned this past week and I happened to be in the right place at the right time - so of course I pounced to secure an RSVP. This is how I found myself at Limani. Judging by their Yelp page, this looked like a total score so I was looking forward to seeing what they had to offer. Sitting in pretty much in the heart of Rockefeller Center, Limani has the feel of a Midtown restaurant. I don't mean that in a bad way though - the aesthetics are cool and modern with low lighting offset by a subtle blue glow. The color scheme is mostly white, with the modern touches continuing in the furniture, bar on the back wall, and impressive fountain-pool in the center of the dining room that serves as a focal point. One of my Yelp friends described it as "Miami meets Midtown" which I feel is the perfect phrase to summarize the aesthetics - I was a fan. We were seated downstairs in a private room; our menu was fixed with the exception of our choice of entree. They started by serving a variety of apps: fried calamari, an assortment of Mediterranean dips with pita, eggplant chips, tomato-cucumber salad, mushrooms, and roasted peppers (I think that was everything). As a whole, the apps were tasty - the dips were really good, and I was impressed they used rings and tentacles on the calamari. I was also happy to see eggplant chips, though it covered an additional dip which didn't make much sense mechanically. The salad added a welcome freshness and was tasty in its own right. For my main I had salmon - I thought it had good flavor but wasn't too outstanding (here's where the restaurant week treatment kicked in). However, the warm potato salad that was served on the side was a great complement. For dessert, we were served fruit with Greek yogurt, plus baklava and walnut cake. These were all quite good - flaky, sweet, and a great finisher to the meal. Service was great - everything was served at a pretty good pace and we never felt forgotten. Overall, I was really impressed at Limani's offerings for an educational dinner. While I have no immediate plans to return, I'll definitely keep it in mind when looking for places to eat in Midtown. read more

Came for a 2 pm reservation on Saturday to catch up with a childhood friend. The place wasn't very crowded and we were seated right away. I need to go out my way to point out how comfy the chairs are because they are. We shared some apps and got the lunch special. We ordered: * Octopus The best octopus I've had. Its perfectly cooked and had actual flavor to it. I often find that most places usually rely on the flavor of the octopus itself to carry the dish and usually just add some lemon. There is nothing wrong with that either it usually taste good anyways buuuuuut this was an explosion of flavors that perfectly complimented the protein and helped take it a notch above the usual take on this. * Goat cheese with tomato The tomatoes were perfectly charred. The cheese was delicious because it's cheese so of course it's good. * Scallops No complaints here * Lobster pasta Presentation is on point. Good pics for the gram here. I'm not really a big pasta fan but this was pretty good and had nice chunks of lobster meat * Strawberry sorbet Good if you're into soberts * KARIDOPITA This was actually phenomenal and I would recommend this over the sorbet Service was great from beginning to end. Had the prefixed lunch and an order of the "Greek Chips." The chips were phenomenal and plentiful. If I ever go again, and I'm in NYC often, I'd go with the chips and maybe another appetizer or two (there were two of us). Service was excellent - friendly but not hovering. Limani is only ONE star short of getting a perfect rating. It wasn't the waitstaff fault, but after we were seated, it appeared there was NO particular waiter assigned to our table. It was awkward knowing who(not) to direct attention towards for ordering. We had to ask for bread to be on table. Once it got going, service appeared a little more consistent. Felt if didn't order everything all at once we'd be there waiting unnecessarily longer. Food, on the other hand, was most delicious putting the "other tavernas" that we frequent a few steps below this establishment. A group of my friends got together and we had dinner in the private dining room. Because we had a lot of catching up to do we preferred a private room so we wouldn't disturb other diners with our loud but often inappropriate but amusing stories. My friend had preordered the set menu which was outstanding. Many dishes came out to share, a dizzying array of hummus, salads, breads, vegetables, seafood appetizers- We each had the option to choose a main dish- I chose the Branzino which was excellent and pictured below. Very busy and expensive for lunch. Although we had a reservation, we had to wait 25 minutes to be seated. Hostess was very apologetic. If you want to sit outside it's first come first serve. Large and noisy indoor space. We ordered the 3 course lunch prix fixe menu. Good selection. Everything was delicious but portions were on the small side. Shrimp saganaki was flavorful but it consisted of 5 shrimp in tomato sauce with a sprinkling of feta cheese and a small scoop portion of rice. Lobster pasta was a larger portion and nicely plated but the linguine was over cooked. Lentil soup was good as were the meze dips which came with pita bread. For dessert we tried the yogurt with honey, the walnut cake and the fresh fruit- all good. The service was slow,inattentive and seemed very disorganized. I highly recommend dining at Limani for a special occasion or just a great night out with friends and family. I took my family here, a party of 14 people, to celebrate my sisters graduation. They sat us down right away and gave us outstanding service. The appetizers came out promptly, we ordered the octopus, fried calamari, zucchini chips, green salad and fries green cheese. The drinks were out of this work, I recommend the old fashion Manhattan or the fig mule. I went on a Saturday evening and it was very busy and very loud. The waiter started off with getting my appetizer wrong. I ended up keeping it. It was burrata and thinly slicked zucchini which turned out to be good. I ordered lamb chops. The time between the appetizer being served and dinner coming out was quite extensive. I ordered lamb chops medium rare. The lamb chops were rare, had a lot of fat and tough. The French fries that came with it were cold. The meal was disgusting and a total disaster. After taking two small pieces, I just left the entire meal. The waiter never asked how the meal was and I didn't bother to complain. I was focused on making it to a play after. Needless to say, I would never recommend, or go again. I frequent many restaurants in Manhattan and quite a few Greek restaurants. This restaurant was very disappointing! read more

The service was absolutely stunning along with the gorgeous aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. I sat by the gorgeous blue light of the water pool in the middle of the restaurant. Where the light illuminates onto everyone around it-stunning. The space from ceiling to floor is throughly decorated and changes throughout the evening to give a pleasing vibe. The food-plenty of delicious appetizers will keep you coming back for more. I preferred the raw bar for apps and enjoyed oyster (blue point) absolutely delicious DRINK-Apple martini off the menu (name?) it's there under cocktails and satisfied me down for the cherry. Main course (more food) - I enjoyed a full 2.8lb lobster and ate all but one final bite of it, absolutely delicious. I did ask for melted butter, but definitely hardly used it as the lobster itself was delicious! The noise level was insane, the service was unprofessional and unbearable - they expected us to use dirty silverware from the appetizer to eat the $60 entrees. The final night for NYC Restaurant Week 2018. A gathering of girlfriends who reside in different boroughs. Elegance, attentive service and overall ambiance. Meditteranean cuisine done right. Sliced bread alongside poured olive oil, it is meditteranean. We skipped the pre-fix and created our own experience. I ordered stuffed calamari with a side of asparagus and it was delicious. The calamari was stuffed with two or three Greek cheeses. Two were goat cheeses. GORGEOUS restaurant. Very spacious and lux dining room in the heart of Rock Plaza. The cuisine is Greek/Mediterranean. The prices are very very high (almost $30 for a Greek salad) but they do have a decent prix fixe menu for lunch and dinner that includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert. My dining companion had the lamp chops and said they were very good. The Greek fries that accompany them are very chunky, but still crispy. The steamed veg looks like an afterthought and unnecessary (hunk of broccoli and cauliflower). The baklava is huge and nutty but has too much granulated sugar so it feels crunchy on the teeth (not in a good way). I had the tuna tartare and the broccoli rabe. The tartare is ok: the tuna is good quality but the seasoning needs something else, maybe even a bit of salt. It is served with sesame encrusted lavash cracker which are fine. The broccoli rabe is also just ok, with lots of hunks of feta but the flavor of the feta gets lost. Perhaps it needs some citrus? It just fell flat and succumbed to the more bitter notes of the veggie. The service is very friendly and attentive, and we very much enjoyed chatting with the staff. I wish they had said that coffee was $4/cup, though... The seafood here looks nice and fresh, so perhaps give that a try. This spot is a bit rich for my blood for what it is, though. read more

We chose fried calamari which was crispy soft and tasty, and the Mediterranean spread was superb. For main courses: My friend had grilled salmon and I had grilled Branzino. It was cook nicely. All very delicious, served with toasted bread and olive oil. The service was good, though the staff (including the hostesses upon entering) in general could have been a bit friendlier. The decor is extra fancy too, and at lunch it became very crowded and noisy, tables are very close together too. It did seem the customer at the very close table beside us, was closer to me than my lunch companion sitting across from me. The 3 course meal for lunch is a nice option for a business dinner, but I wouldn't take my wife to dinner here per se, if that makes sense. My scallops starter was quite good: the scallops were tender, well seasoned, and had a nice balance of sweet and tartness from the glaze/sauce thingy. Limani is exquisite! Is extremely modern looking with foliage indoors complete with a huge infinity pool looking fountain in the middle. Its really a gem. The spreads are to die for especially the tzaziki. The pita is perfectly charred and is a great dipper. My sister is gluten-free and they werre able to accomidate her allergy by providing cucumbers to dip into the spreads. The greek salad was really so authentic. Just like the ones from Greece. You must have the octopus!! It almost tastes like chicken. It was my favorite starter. I ordered the Salmon next which was very tasty. It came topped with capers and a lemon wedge. WOW- in town for a conference and extended my stay to handle family matters. There are two branches - one in Rockefeller Center and one out in Long Island. Yes, during my visit - I ate at both. The service at each of the locations is impeccable. The food at both locations is fantastic. The price fix menu offers quite a bit of options and you can't go wrong. My cousin, who is a chef, ordered the grilled octopus and she was very happy. I had the loup de mer and it was done perfectly and finished it off with the yaourti. I was a huge fan of this place!! Immediately when you walk in, you can tell the restaurant is high-end, as the ambiance is stunning. They have a small infinity pool in the center and tons of wall & ceiling decor. The lighting is gorgeous (see photos for reference). We came in with a reservation and it took a few minutes to be seated, however we didn't mind. They took our coats as soon as we entered. For a starter, we ordered the mushroom dish (which comes with three different types of mushrooms, cooked to perfection). These were seriously the best mushrooms I have ever tasted - I would DEFINITELY recommend. We squeezed fresh lemon over the top and they were perfect. For entrees, there were no vegan options, so I asked for a bowl of linguine with tomato sauce and vegetables. However, they seem to have forgotten the vegetables on it, but I think it was just a misunderstanding. Anyway, the pasta tasted fantastic. My family ordered the salmon dish - the presentation was incredible and they said it was delicious. They gave a very large portion of fish. My brother ordered a 26 oz steak and loved it - he finished the whole thing! Our waiter was also very friendly and recommended several things to split, order, etc. My family and I will definitely be back here - this experience was simply unmatched! read more

We were treated to a very nice lunch at Limani, beautiful high ceiling, modern sleek all white on white decor (sadly some of the cushions have seen better days... love white but so high maintenance!) A group of 5 - made reservation, quickly seated and ordered from the lunch prix-fixe menu. Starters: Avocado shrimp salad (3), Grilled scallops (2) Entree: Roast chicken, Seared salmon, lobster spaghetti ($8 supplement? I think), Jumbo Shrimp risotto (2) Dessert: Honey Walnut Cake (3) and Sorbet (2) Loved: Food - really the dessert!! decor, lunch prix-fixe menu ($29), and the vibe. The Honey Walnut cake was worth the calories! It was just so good and literally wished we had the whole cake! Needs improvement: the roast chicken was a bit too dry, it paired well with the vinegary cauliflower & broccoli. The lobster spaghetti needs work - wasn't very tasty (looked OK but not impressive), however the Jumbo Shrimp Risotto & the Seared Salmon w capers was excellent. Why did I give this impeccable lunch 3 stars? -MIA waiter, never came back to refill our water - not even once. -The bus/boy/man was in such a rush to turnover the table - quickly spilled olive oil and took my colleague's bread away before she even finished. -The bus/boy/man kept scraping bread crumbs onto my pants (luckily I wasn't wearing fancy clothes...!) -MIA waiter, during our dessert course, we wanted espresso/coffee/cappuccino... NEVER found our waiter, no one - literally other staff turned away from us... NO ONE came by. -Waited over 20 mins to even get the check... REALLY?!? Good value although certain items are not on the pre-fix and also they charge extra for the octopus and crab cakes on appetizer menu and then extra for lamb chops on the main course. Food was definitely amazing. Most places will overcook the octopus, but it was perfectly cooked at Limanis. had the octopus and the sea bass.
