Bowl of clam chowder
Angela Z.

What a precious little hidden gem! This place is little hole in the wall that delivers big flavors. We wnt in around 1pm on a Friday to have Lily's famous clam chowder and wowww I see why my friend was raving about it. It was so fresh and so comforting to eat this soup and mind you the bowl was a very generous portion. We ordered the half soup half sandwhich combo and I got the grilled veggie sandwhich with clam chowder and my friend got the tuna sandwhich with clam chowder. When I got mt sandwhich I thought maybe it'll be a little dry. I have never misjudged a dish so much in my life. I thought the clam chowder was the star of the show, and it partially was, but this grilled veggie sandwhich stole the show, just WOW! Go try it yourself and tell me what an explosion of flavor and juices exist in this humble looking sandwhich that packs a huge flavor punch. My friend also got the Lily's house tea and I noticed most everyone else did too so I'll have to come back and try it as they gave rave reviews about it. I think we got lucky with the last portions of the soup, so come earlier to ensure you secure your bowl of chowder. The place is tiny, I couldn't take a photo because it was sooo packed and I didnt want to take photos of othe people. I mention this as you may not be able to find a spot to sit though service is pretty quick and courteous, it almost like going to your relatives house for a quick lunch type of vibe. If you haven't been, you're missing out, go and support this wonderful local business and blow your taste buds mind out of this world!

Pastrami on ciabatta
Helen Q.

Many people I personally know, love this place and recommends their beet salad, and turkey sandwich. However, I'm not a big soup, salad, sandwich person, but thought heck, why not. Let's give it a try. I opted to order the pastrami on ciabatta bread. It was good, however, the ratio of pastrami to bread was lacking. A lot of bread and not a lot of pastrami. I probably wouldn't order this again or change my bread type. Would love to try other items on the menu though.

Good but literally the skinniest pastrami sandwich i've ever received and its 15$ Unfortunately not worth that.

Turkey Chili

This was my first time trying Lily's Cafe. The owner, Lily, and her helper were both very friendly and welcoming. The inside is small with around four tables, very clean, and has cute decor. After looking over the menu, I decided to order their turkey chili and a PB&J with banana sandwich. The turkey chili was good and came with fresh bread. The PB&J was packed nicely and actually pretty filling. The only surprise was seeing my sandwich made with JIF peanut butter. I was kinda expecting Justin's or something, lol. All in all it was a good experience. Street parking and cash only

The perfect lunch spot! Great menu, especially the sandwiches. Love the iced tea! Closest thing to Southern sweet tea I've found here in LA.

When it comes to Mediterranean food, SOTTA in Burbank does a great job this side of the Adriatic…read moreSea. Although Raffi's in Glendale is usually my go-to spot, I met a friend here for lunch and it was a nice change of scenery. Not only did I love the idea of having an outdoor patio almost to ourselves, but the inside is really cute with its retro mint accents, old school chairs, and wooden tabletops. I also loved looking at the Old World Hollywood black & white photos up on the walls. The only conundrum is finding a seat inside since this place fills up quickly during the lunch rush hours. Also, some folks just park it so they can work on their laptops while sipping on coffee -- not that I can blame 'em. Their Mediterranean, Lebanese-inspired cuisine, and fusion-inspired grill fare is delicious and the portion sizes are ample. Juicy tomatoes and slightly charred zucchini and summer squash sat vibrantly on my plate. Their savory chicken breast kabobs are made with authentic spices, but more on the lean, dry side. So I prefer their falafels, dolmas, and grilled veggies on my plate. SOTTA touts their Tomato Soup as "the best in town". Not sure I'd agree. My bowl was piping hot, but a bit on the bland side. I'd personally opt for another salad if given a choice: Their babaganoush is creamy, Greek salad is crisp, while the Shirazi Salad and Quinoa Tabbouleh won't disappoint. I'll have to try the Sautéed Mushrooms next time because the red wine, teriyaki, and garlic marinade piqued my interest. As for their drink menu, the coffee is excellent. Or try a 20 oz. matcha that's infused with passion fruit or guava. It's worth the splurge. Although Skaf's in Highland Park is still my fave Lebanese restaurant, I'll still make my way over to SOTTA next time on this side of the hill. It's still continents closer than the Adriatic Sea.

Sorta used to be one of my go-to places, especially since it's within walking distance of my house…read more Unfortunately, my last two orders have been noticeably different from the quality and portions I had received in the past, and yesterday's order was especially disappointing. I ordered chicken breast, and the portions were surprisingly inconsistent. One piece was a reasonable size, while the other was significantly smaller and did not feel like a proper portion. The biggest disappointment was the Caesar salad with salmon. It came with only two very small pieces of salmon--approximately 1.5 ounces total. Honestly, even my cat would have been disappointed with that portion! It genuinely looked like they were down to their last small piece of salmon and divided it between the salad. As someone who is Persian and grew up eating this type of food regularly, I'm very familiar with the flavors, quality, and portions I would expect. Unfortunately, the food this time was well below average, both in taste and value. I would rate the taste about 2/10. It's especially disappointing because I previously enjoyed ordering from Sorta and appreciated having a convenient neighborhood option so close to home. But after two disappointing experiences in a row, I can't justify the price for the portions and quality I received. Sadly, I don't see myself returning. It's very sad that u spend 77$ for lunch for two and not be satisfied

Ordered truffle breakfast sando and rib omelette, I'd say the omelette was better…read more The rib meat was super tasty and juicy in the omelet, the sandwhich was kind of meh. It felt like it needed a protein , or some kind aioli, it was dry and not super tasty. Coffees were ok. 70$ for 2 people to eat breakfast and 2 coffees, A bit pricey, and you order at the counter and have options for 18,20,25% tip , which felt weird and pressured to do before my food had even arrived. So I tipped 11$ for someone to bring me out food I guess. Ambiance was nice, very empty but pretty inside. I would go back to try their wood fired pizza. Not sure I'll be back for breakfast.

It was actually hard to decide on just one bakery item - everything looked delicious. Next time the coffee cake will be happening. I got poached eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. Husband got a hash omelette. Both come with a lovely little side of greens with a great dressing. Brunch isn't brunch without a little libation, so I had a lovely French white wine and he had a French red. The wine list though small by the glass is chosen very well. We were hoping they sold their bread at the bakery because it's absolutely delicious. Service is warm and friendly. Price point for breakfast with tip was $100. We will definitely be coming back soon to this great neighborhood spot.
