Called in our order on our way home from Tahoe. Food was piping hot, flavorful and filling without being heavy. We ordered the Dim Sum, which has always been a favorite since living in SF and eating from the best Chinese available. It was on par with SF's Ocean King and the East Bay's East Ocean. That's high praise! My husband loves Lily Kai's Lemon Chicken while my go to is the Lettuce Wrap Chicken. Don't forget to get the Roast Duck, it's crispy and flavorful. Parking can be a bit tight, but they've been utilizing an empty lot just across the street which is handy if the other lot is full. There's also a nice walking trail adjacent to the restaurant if you'd like to have a stroll before or after dinner. read more

Since my last visit to Shenzhen, China, I'm having a hard time finding a good chines restaurant which emulates the true exotic Chinese cuisine I experienced overseas. In my humble opinion, Chinese food has often become a synonym to slices of beef or chicken, scrambled together with a mix of vegetable medley, soaking in an excessive amount of artificially flavored sauce. The high contents of MSG and sweet syrup-like flavors, overtake the dish, making you wonder if they've mistaken the entrée for a desert. I attended Lily Kai at 3100 Lakeville Hwy to celebrate a friend's birthday. After browsing the menu, I ordered the foil wrapped chicken. It's a portion of chicken breast, marinated in ginger and scallion sauce. Chicken breast is a challenging ingredient. If you enjoy cooking, like me, you've probably learnt the hard way how easy it is to overcook it. One extra minute of erroneous additional cooking is all it takes to turn a nicely carved chicken breast into a dry gummy chunk of food. Lily Kai chose a great way to combat these perils. Marinating the breast for a long period prior to cooking it, made it highly succulent, adding essential liquids to the meat by way of osmosis. Wrapping the chicken breast in foil, added another layer of protection, guarding it from the high heat and risk of drying, allowing it to retain its natural liquids and flavorful marinade. I love the ginger and scallion sauce which Lily Kai chose to pair with the chicken. It was delicate and flavorsome. One of the best Chinese places ever! And they can also do gluten free (for most of their dishes)! The only dishes they don't do gluten free either have a clear gluten component (I.e., fried spring rolls or pot stickers) or have an ingredient that is marinated in soy sauce (which I with they would just switch to a gluten free soy sauce or tamari). read more

Not sure I've ever put 5 for a Chinese restaurant before but Lily Kai Petaluma deserved it. The greeting was friendly, the server was iconic SF, and another server, a young gal, answered a lot of our questions about the food "its a new style potsticker with different flour"... the old characters on the wall says "wishing you everything wonderful" etc. The ambience is nice, nicer than the location would leave me to believe. The biggest star in the show was the food. The hot tea was great. Seemed similar to oolong but with jasmine ? I didn't ask. The first course (which didn't come first btw) was the crystal shimp pot stickers which more like rice flour-based biscuits than traditiona pot stickers. And the "new way" was fabulous. Easier to eat with a fork than chopsticks but we managed. The seafood soup course was very nice. The main was Asparagus Beef with Black Beans. The aspargus was nice, very much toward the thin side and slice on deep angles. From tip to base each bite was about the same. The beef was perfectly done, and the way other end from dry and tough. The black bean sauce was made with the salty fermented beans and those tastes shined through, the sauce was clean and tasty, and wonderfully unctious, especially with the rice. They were so nice and the food was amazing. We had always wanted to try this place but never had time when we lived in Sonoma county before but this last Saturday after attending a graduation we stopped on the way back home to Sacramento right before they closed. Not only was the service great, they accommodated my weird requests because we would be eating in the car but the food was so good. Nice lunch at Lily Kai yesterday. The lunch specials are all about $12.75 and they come with soup or salad, an appetizer (egg roll) and choice of rice. My friend had the Kung Pao Chicken and I had the General's Chicken with Hot & Sour soup and fried rice. Delicious! The portion was very large so there was plenty left over for dinner. So I decided to get a take out order, I had my wife call it in at 11.40 am and I got there at noon , the place was packed and people were already at a 15 minute wait to be seated . I paid for my food , We ordered pork buns , potstickers and large won ton soup. It was $24.88 or somewhere around there, perfect meal for two, Potstickers were probably the best,extra big . The place was super busy and being that I did a take out order. I can only tell you food was great. Give it a try . I would recommend if you are planning on having lunch there try to go a little earlier than noon or maybe a little later, there are a lot of businesses near by so place is busy at noon. Any time we are driving down Lakeville Hwy to 101 it's Lily Kai take home time. We moved 70 miles North and there is no local Chinese food that is close to the flavor & quality. The prices here are reasonably cheap compared to most Chinese restaurants in the area. The lunch special will get you an entree, side and soup out the door for $10. Stumbled upon this gem while driving out to Bodega Bay. I'm not usually a huge fan of Chinese food but this place blew me and my fiancé away. We ordered 3 dishes, the combination fried rice, chicken corn egg drop soup, and best of all, the lemon chicken. All 3 dishes tasted great and portion sizes were big. The combination fried rice contained tender pieces of beef and chicken and giant whole pieces of juicy prawns. The egg drop soup came out piping hot. It was clean and simple and again, contained very tender slices of chicken. The lemon chicken was by far the best thing we tried. It was unlike anything else I've ever had. The chicken is deep fried with a thin layer of batter then drenched with a lemon flavored sauce which could sound off putting but the lemon flavor was very subtle and not bitter. All three dishes we ordered contained chicken and I find it hard for Chinese restaurants to make their chicken tender but this restaurant killed it. Ambiance of the restaurant was on the more upscale level compared to other Chinese restaurants I've been to and staff were all very welcoming and greeted us as we entered and left. I'm from Sacramento but will most likely make that two hour drive at some point again just to eat at this place! read more

They are very sweet here. I used to come here all the time. but one day we got the broccoli beef and even my 10-yr-old commented that it tasted like chemicals. They may have soaked it too long in tenderizer. Either way, it was so bad that we never returned. Great Dim Sum, better than SF! I usually test Chinese Restaurants by trying Wor Won Ton Soup and Dim Sum. I usually try Hargow and Pork Shumai. I figure if they can make these well...they are worth another try... That being said, They had one of the tastiest Wor Won-Tons soups I have ever had. The wontons were perfect pillow fresh veggies and large Shrimp, chicken, and pork. Although there only have a limited selection of Dim Sum, it is one of the best I ever tasted. We have eaten at Lily Kai multiple times, and we had pretty good experience. But this was the worst experience by far. My wife ordered the cashew chicken over rice for lunch, and when she got her food there was no cashews. My wife told the server and she came back with a bowl of cashew and threw it on top of the dish. We were taken back by how the server reacted. She didn't apologize or anything. I asked for water, and when I drank the water, I tasted detergent. Needless we will not come back!! read more
