We have always had a good experience stopping in at Lil Rays. It is a fun, casual joint. They have a nice variety of options but usually we stop in for their crawfish. They have good prices and the crawfish with corn and potato's are always good. They aren't very spicy so even our kids will eat them. The servers are friendly and do a nice job. So I generally don't leave reviews, good or bad, except when things need to be pointed out. I either return or I don't. I ordered a roast beef poboy dressed to go. My first red flag was when I picked it up it was in a paper bag and was standing upright when brought out. I figured heck they may have a unique delivery style. Anyway, I grabbed it and laid it flat in the truck to get home. When I got back I opened the bag and found a nicely double-wrapped poboy. I figured hell they just wrapped it good n tight. So when I opened it up I found that what I actually had was more of a soup sandwich! Maybe a roast beef omelet would be a better description. It was drenched in gravy which is a plus in "most situations". Not this one. Anyway, I was like, "You gotta be shi****g me?!" I was hungry as hell so I proceeded to eat my roast beef poboy omelet caveman style. Now what I was able to cobble and slop back together was pretty damn tasty! I'm sure I'll be back and will probably end up a regular customer as I just moved here. I don't go scorched earth on places for a bad first visit, but y'all need to work on this one. j/s read more

Lil'rays is a hidden gem! We visit every year during Crusin the Coast at least twice while we are in the area! Tomato Jackie is finer than frog hair! So good! Highly recommend. I had the blackened red fish one night and the Grilled Mahi the next visit, both were really good! read more

Slow service, long wait on meal and then it was wrong: fried grouper and not grilled as requested, but I ate it and left. The Cajun Potatoes were pretty good. Slow to get the bill, too. Yelp, made it to lil Ray's, which came highly recommended. Your ambiance and flare is casual. We are a party of 5 being served by Jay. For apps we have a couple of orders of gumbo and fried mushrooms. Mushrooms are delicious. Mary ordered the fish tacos, they are average, fish wrapped in flour tortillas with no sauce. Matriarch got soft fried crabs with a salad, they were really good. Pam, Fee and I all got catfish. It was good. Fee ordered hers with new potatoes and they were delicious. We were in Long Beach for a funeral. A friend invited us to go eat here. We came into the restaurant about 15 minutes before closing. However the staff never indicated that they were upset because we came in close to closing time. Actually they were super friendly and the service was great! The food was fantastic. I ordered The fried catfish platter. Excellent! We also ordered the fried mushrooms and my wife ordered the boiled shrimp. The shrimp was fantastic my daughter ordered fish tacos. Stop The Presses! Alert The Media! Real French Bread Found in Mississippi!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For years I have told anyone who will listen that ordering a po-boy outside the New Orleans metro area is an expertise in futility. But I'm a hard head who loves po-boys like firemen love playing with their hoses. Until now ignoring my own advice has brought me disappointment and lots of soft bread. Soft bread has its place, but not on a po-boy. Lil Ray's convinced me to order a pro-boy because their menu explained that they receive a bread shipment from New Orleans daily. Hell yes Lil Ray's is a seafood joint that would be at home in any southern coastal community. The restaurant is one large room with seating on picnic tables. I strongly dislike picnic tables, but they worked. The menu is strongly weighted towards seafood particularly local seafood. Shrimp, royal reds, crawfish, etc were all available, but man was I craving a shrimp po-boy. Their version was darn near perfect. The bread was crispy outside with the light airy inside filled with perfectly seasoned and fried shrimp. It was delicious and a great example of a shrimp po-boy. Not a MS po-boy, but a real deal, correct bread having po-boy. But wait! There's more! If the po-boy isn't enough to convince you this restaurant is great, listen to this. I also had debris fries with cheese. Legit debris fries with real gravy. Hell yeah for the second time. So after all this pontificating I'm still giving only four stars. Why? It's been years since first eating at Lil'ray's and not much has changed. The food is still excellent. We went twice I. The last two months and left both times very satisfied. I had the Fried Grouper which was amazing. Two lg. filets of grouper with one side. My husband had the Oyster Poboy and said it was excellent also. We visit this part of the Gulf for a month every winter. Li'l Ray's Long Beach is a thrice-weekly obligation, minimum. I won't reveal all the secrets, but another reviewer let out a big one -- real New Orleans French bread, unique in all the world! Lightest, airiest texture possible. Hard to find even in NOLA itself outside the "Grande Dame" restaurants. Po' Boys would be inconceivable without this bread, and you get some with every order. Even the melted margarine doesn't hurt it. Whatever we can't finish we take home and reheat. Best possible accompaniment to local cuisine. Having dined at the major Michelin three-stars around the world for 40 years, I will say that if I could have only one casual everyday joint forever, this would be the one. read more

I had the catfish tacos (**** stars) which were lightly breaded, juicy and well seasoned. They were served on a lightly toasted flour tortilla with shredded lettuce and a mayo dressing. I would have loved to give this place a higher rating, but they still serve sodas from a can and don't carry Splenda!!!
