Pass Purchasing is the best place to get super fresh seafood…read more I thought I was spoiled by being able to get fresh seafood in and around New Orleans. This place is on a whole different planet when it comes to freshness. Pass Purchasing is located in the Pass Marina directly on the water. I'm talking shrimp boats and commercial fishermen pull up to their docks and sell them seafood that they then sell to the public. It is basically impossible to get it more fresh unless you own a commercial fishing vessel yourself. Pass is not the only fresh seafood venue at the marina, but I think it's the best. Drive all the way to the water past the first two seafood purveyors and you'll find it. My first visit here was when I was looking for oysters. A quart was around $21.50 with tax and contained close to four dozen oysters and oyster liquor. They were shucked and packed the same day I bought them, and when char broiled I detected zero difference from ones that had been shucked prior to being cooked. Well except the obvious difference of zero shell and grit in my oysters. My second visit was for more oysters and shrimp. The shrimp were large (maybe 16/20) and were $4 a pound. $4 a pound? Holy hell batman. Not only were they cheap, they gave me at least a pound more than I ordered because it was the end of the day. Score! The people who work at PP are friendly and fun to deal with. If you expect some fru-fru experience like at a Whole Foods, go somewhere else. If you like dealing with real fishermen, you will not be disappointed. PS If you live in a part of the country where you can't get fresh seafood, it sucks to be you.

They've been in…read morebusiness here on the MS Gulf Coast for many years and have consistently delivered some of the best crawfish you can find. I remember back in the day when prices were pound were less than two bucks but now they are usually $4-5 depending on what part of crawfish season they are in and how big they are. They also offer other stuff like shrimp but I've only ever gotten the crawfish and some sides. They also offer platters that include 3 pounds of crawfish and sides. The spicy crawfish here do have a kick at first, but they aren't unbearable. That first one will get your lips burning so be warned if you're a lightweight. Their regular flavor has a slight kick but is very flavorful. I am not sure what all they use for seasoning but it is a complex blend with an array of different spices that are very good. I recommend you try their sides like potatoes and corn cooked in the same boil with the crawfish so the flavor gets infused into them. Definitely get a side of their butter to pour over the potatoes and you're in for a treat. We ordered 10 pounds worth in late March and the sides were what I'd considered medium with a handful that I'd consider large. This meant you will put some extra work in eating them but they were still good. On average, you can expect 3-4 ounces of meat per pound so take that into consideration when purchasing. While they do have a few outside tables, this isn't exactly a restaurant and there are no indoor tables. Most people get their orders to go here, and they do often sell out so don't go too late in the day or you may not get any on busy days.

Claw daddy's sits just off 49 and the have large sized picnic tables so you can sit and enjoy your crawfish or you can easily take them to go. We opted for five pounds of crawfish with potatoes, eggs, and mushrooms for sides. They gave us the hot seasoning and everything was so tasty. They also have alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages for sale as well as seasonings and t-shirts. We also loved the artwork they have on their walls. I am looking forward to my in-laws next visit because I know we will be bringing them here!

This store is the best…read more For years I have lamented the fact that there is not a good butcher shop on the MS Gulf Coast. I can lament that no longer because TBT is legit. Located next to what is probably the shadiest gas station in the area, TBT occupies what had been several failed restaurants. They seem to have broken the location's curse as they are often busy and for good reason. Tuna Dip - Ever had TBT tuna dip? It is smoky, chunky, and delicious. They sell a sizable container for $10. It is a hell of a deal and goes really well with pork rinds. It is the same recipe they use in the restaurants. Steaks - Oh hell yes. They have fresh-cut steaks of all varieties in prime and choice. They also often have bone-in ribeyes cut about 2-3 inches thick. I got one of those once and when I cooked it all of my neighbors came to see what the hell I had on the grill. Of their steaks, I prefer the fillets and ribeyes, particularly the prime ribeyes. They are very high quality, reasonably priced, and taste delicious. Lamb Chops - This is the best place on the coast to buy lamb chops. Most come in a marinade of oil and some green stuff. I am sure the green stuff has a name but I can't remember. I recommend removing them from the bag and marinating them yourself. That will increase the flavor. If you don't like lamb, don't buy these. But if you do, they are awesome. Fresh Seafood - They get fresh stuff straight from fishermen so there is always a good selection of fresh shrimp, fish, and crabs. I have bought some shrimp before and they were on par with what I have purchased around the corner at the harbor. Berled Crawfish - During the season they sold crawfish for around $1.99 a pound. It is the best deal on the coast, but they didn't sell corn, potatoes, or sausage. But if you needed some berled crawfish, they were cheap and plentiful. Prepared food - They usually run a smashburger special with a bag of chips for about $10. They grind their own meat using ribeye and fillet so it's pretty tasty. In addition to the great selection of food items, the staff here are really great. It seems to be a family affair and everyone I have encountered has been super nice. They even laugh when I say dumb stuff which is always a plus for me. If you are on the coast and need fresh stiff to grill, head to TBT Meat Market.

At noon the parking lot was packed and the line was nearly out the door. I had never had "reds" - a unique shrimp that was to have lobster like texture and flavor. I ordered their steamed to order reds platter. While in line regulars talked me into trying the crawfish & boudin balls. You buy the cooked crawfish by the pound & they scoop them out of a huge tub, still hot from being recently cooked. Wow - seasoning was special & the crawfish cooked perfectly. The boudin balls were exceptional. The reds platter was huge!! A pound plus of shrimp, corn, potatoes, sausage. It was piping hot! Crazy good - shrimp indeed had a firmer texture and a sweetness akin to lobster. Dipped in the butter & it was even more like lobster. I tried to quit a couple times but the seasoning was addictive I ate every shrimp. It was so good we came back a second time on our travels from NOLA!!

We go the Royal platter, a shrimp plate, fried chicken sandwich, potato wedges, and two boudin balls all for only $44. The portions were large, everything tasted outstanding, and it was all made fresh. The seasoning was plentiful, but not too spicy or overpowering. Only thing that would have made it better would have been a hot sauce offering. Michigan could certainly use a Bradley's, but until that happens, my kids are already asking me to start making boudin at home!
